Stability of linear systems with uncertain bounded time-varying delays is studied under assumption that the nominal delay values are not equal to zero. An input-output approach to stability of such systems is known to be based on the bound of the $L_2$-norm of a certain integral operator. There exists a bound on this operator in two cases: in the case where the delay derivative is not greater than 1 and in the case without any constraints on the delay derivative. In the present note we fill the gap between the two cases by deriving an operator bound which is an increasing and continuous function of the delay derivative upper bound $d \geq 1$. For $d\to \infty$ the new bound corresponds to the second case and improves the existing bound. As a result, improved frequency-domain and time-domain stability criteria are erived for systems with the delay derivative greater than 1.
In this report, we develop a semistability analysis framework for nonlinear systems with bounded time-varying delays with applications to stability analysis of multiagent dynamic networks with consensus protocols in the presence of unknown heterogeneous time-varying delays along the communication links. We show that for such a nonlinear system having nonisolated equilibria, if the system asymptotically converges to a constant time-delay system and this new system is semistable, then the original time-varying delay system is semistable. In proving our results, we extend the limiting differentia…
This paper studies a class of random nonlinear systems with time-varying delay, in which the $r$-order moment ($r\geq1$) of the random disturbance is finite. Firstly, some general conditions are proposed to guarantee the existence and uniqueness of the global solution to random nonlinear time-delay systems. Secondly, some definitions and criteria on noise-to-state stability in the moment sense and in probability sense are given by Lyapunov method respectively. Finally, two regulation controllers are constructed respectively for two corresponding random nonlinear time-delay systems and the effe…
A new method for solving optimal tracking control of linear quadratic time-varying systems with multiple time delays in state and input variables and with combined constraints is presented in this paper. By using the relations of Chebyshev wavelets, we simulate the optimal tracking problem to a static optimization one. This alternative method is applied on different optimal tracking systems and simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
We consider the celebrated Cucker-Smale model in finite dimension, modelling interacting collective dynamics and their possible evolution to consensus. The objective of this paper is to study the effect of time delays in the general model. By a Lyapunov functional approach, we provide convergence results to consensus for symmetric as well as nonsymmetric communication weights under some structural conditions.
In this paper we consider a viscoelastic wave equation with a time-varying delay term, the coefficient of which is not necessarily positive. By introducing suitable energy and Lyapunov functionals, under suitable assumptions, we establish a general energy decay result from which the exponential and polynomial types of decay are only special cases.
This paper presents a distributed position synchronization strategy that also preserves the initial communication links for single-integrator multi-agent systems with time-varying delays. The strategy employs a coordinating proportional control derived from a specific type of potential energy, augmented with damping injected through a dynamic filter. The injected damping maintains all agents within the communication distances of their neighbours, and asymptotically stabilizes the multi-agent system, in the presence of time delays. Regarding the closed-loop single-integrator multi-agent system …
Time-delay systems are an important class of dynamical systems that provide a solid mathematical framework to deal with many application domains of interest. In this paper we focus on nonlinear control systems with unknown and time-varying delay signals and we propose one approach to the control design of such systems, which is based on the construction of symbolic models. Symbolic models are abstract descriptions of dynamical systems where one symbolic state and one symbolic input correspond to an aggregate of states and an aggregate of inputs. We first introduce the notion of incremental inp…
This paper is concerned with the consensus problem for multi-agent systems subject to communication delays between the neighboring agents. We consider a scenario where each agent is characterized by a general high-order linear system and the communication delays between the agents are non-uniform and time-varying. We design a distributed control protocol for the agents and provide an equivalent stability problem to be solved that guarantees the state consensus in the group of agents. Moreover, a delay-dependent stability criterion is provided by combining the Lyapunov-Krasovskii method with th…
In this paper, we consider a distributed constrained optimization problem with delayed subgradient information over the time-varying communication network, where each agent can only communicate with its neighbors and the communication channel has a limited data rate. We propose an adaptive quantization method to address this problem. A mirror descent algorithm with delayed subgradient information is established based on the theory of Bregman divergence. With non-Euclidean Bregman projection-based scheme, the proposed method essentially generalizes many previous classical Euclidean projection-b…
This paper considers $L_2$ and BIBO stability and stabilization issues for systems with time-varying delays which can be of retarded or neutral type. An important role is played by a nominal system with fixed delays which are close to the time-varying ones. Under stability or stabilizability conditions of this nominal system, sufficient conditions are given in order to ensure similar properties for the system with time-varying delays.
In this paper, we study the application of switched systems stability criteria to derive delay-dependent conditions for systems affected by both a constant and a time-varying delay. The main novelty of our approach lies on the use of path-complete Lyapunov techniques along with the proposition of a new modified functional to obtain convex analysis conditions while avoiding the need of computing a dwell time for each mode in a switched system representation, as usual in the \textit{switched approach} for time-delay systems. Furthermore, we leverage the developed analysis to obtain LMIs for the …
This paper discusses the in-domain feedback stabilization of reaction-diffusion PDEs with Robin boundary conditions in the presence of an uncertain time- and spatially-varying delay in the distributed actuation. The proposed control design strategy consists of a constant-delay predictor feedback designed based on the known nominal value of the control input delay and is synthesized on a finite-dimensional truncated model capturing the unstable modes of the original infinite-dimensional system. By using a small-gain argument, we show that the resulting closed-loop system is exponentially stable…
A teleoperated swarm must follow the unpredictable commands of its human operator while remaining connected. When the swarm communications are limited by distance and affected by delays, both the user input and the transmission delays endanger the connectivity of the swarm. This paper presents a constructive control strategy that overcomes both threats. The strategy modulates the intra-swarm couplings and the damping injected to each slave in the swarm based on a customized potential. Lyapunov-based set invariance analysis proves that the proposed explicit gain updating law limits the impact o…
This paper is concerned with the state estimation problem for genetic regulatory networks with time-varying delays and reaction-diffusion terms under Dirichlet boundary conditions. It is assumed that the nonlinear regulation function is of the Hill form. The purpose of this paper is to design a state observer to estimate the concentrations of mRNA and protein through available measurement outputs. By introducing new integral terms in a novel Lyapunov--Krasovskii functional and employing Wirtinger-based integral inequality, Wirtinger's inequality, Green's identity, convex combination approach, …
In this paper, a kind of neural network with time-varying delays is proposed to solve the problems of quadratic programming. The delay term of the neural network changes with time t. The number of neurons in the neural network is n + h, so the structure is more concise. The equilibrium point of the neural network is consistent with the optimal solution of the original optimization problem. The existence and uniqueness of the equilibrium point of the neural network are proved. Application inequality technique proved global exponential stability of the network. Some numerical examples are given …

This note is concerned with the presentation of new delay-dependent dissipativity-based convex conditions (expressed in the form of linear matrix inequalities) for the design of static output feedback (SOF) stabilizing gains for open-loop unstable discrete-time systems with input time-varying delays. A modified definition of QSR-dissipativity combined with the use of Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals as storage functions and the application of Finsler's Lemma lead to the gathering of non-interactive design conditions. We show that, differently from most works dealing with controller design for t…
In this paper we address the problem of adaptive state observation of affine-inthe-states time-varying systems with delayed measurements and unknown parameters. The development of the results proposed in the [Bobtsov et al. 2021a] and in the [Bobtsov et al. 2021c] is considered. The case with known parameters has been studied by many researchers (see [Sanz et al. 2019, Bobtsov et al. 2021b] and references therein) where, similarly to the approach adopted here, the system is treated as a linear time-varying system. We show that the parameter estimation-based observer (PEBO) design proposed in […
This paper provides new summation inequalities in both single and double forms to be used in stability analysis of discrete-time systems with time-varying delays. The potential capability of the newly derived inequalities is demonstrated by establishing less conservative stability conditions for a class of linear discrete-time systems with an interval time-varying delay in the framework of linear matrix inequalities. The effectiveness and least conservativeness of the derived stability conditions are shown by academic and practical examples.
This paper deals with a unifying approach to the problems of computing the admissible sets of parametrical multi perturbations in appropriate bounded sets such that some fundamental properties of parameter-varying linear dynamic systems are maintained provided that the so-called (i.e. perturbation-free) nominal system possesses such properties. The sets of parametrical multi perturbations include any combinations of parametrical multi perturbations in the matrix of dynamics as well as in the control, output and input-output interconnection matrices which belong to some prescribed bounded domai…
This paper investigates the robust stability and stabilization analysis of interval fractional-order systems with time-varying delay. The stability problem of such systems is solved first, and then using the proposed results a stabilization theorem is also included, where sufficient conditions are obtained for designing a stabilizing controller with a predetermined order, which can be chosen to be as low as possible. Utilizing efficient lemmas, the stability and stabilization theorems are proposed in the form of LMIs, which is more suitable to check due to various existing efficient convex opt…
In this paper, we consider online convex optimization (OCO) with time-varying loss and constraint functions. Specifically, the decision maker chooses sequential decisions based only on past information, meantime the loss and constraint functions are revealed over time. We first develop a class of model-based augmented Lagrangian methods (MALM) for time-varying functional constrained OCO (without feedback delay). Under standard assumptions, we establish sublinear regret and sublinear constraint violation of MALM. Furthermore, we extend MALM to deal with time-varying functional constrained OCO w…
In this paper, we study the simultaneous stability problem of a finite number of locally inter-connected linear subsystems under practical constraints, including asynchronous and aperiodic sampling, time-varying delays, and measurement errors. We establish a new Lyapunov-based stability result for such a decentralized system. This system has a particular simple structure of interconnections, but it captures some key characteristics of a large class of intermediate models derived from the consensus analysis of multi-agent systems. The stability result is applicable to the estimation of the maxi…

Solving optimization problems in multi-agent systems (MAS) involves information exchange between agents. These solutions must be robust to delays and errors that arise from an unreliable wireless network which typically connects the MAS. In today's large-scale dynamic Internet Of Things style multi-agent scenarios, the network topology changes and evolves over time. In this paper, we present a simple distributed gradient based optimization framework and an associated algorithm. Convergence to a minimum of a given objective is shown under mild conditions on the network topology and objective. S…
We consider a dynamic server allocation problem over parallel queues with randomly varying connectivity and server switchover delay between the queues. At each time slot the server decides either to stay with the current queue or switch to another queue based on the current connectivity and the queue length information. Switchover delay occurs in many telecommunications applications and is a new modeling component of this problem that has not been previously addressed. We show that the simultaneous presence of randomly varying connectivity and switchover delay changes the system stability regi…
We consider a dynamic server control problem for two parallel queues with randomly varying connectivity and server switchover time between the queues. At each time slot the server decides either to stay with the current queue or switch to the other queue based on the current connectivity and the queue length information. The introduction of switchover time is a new modeling component of this problem, which makes the problem much more challenging. We develop a novel approach to characterize the stability region of the system by using state action frequencies, which are stationary solutions to a…
We consider state-feedback predictor-based control of networked control systems with large time-varying communication delays. We show that even a small controller-to-actuators delay uncertainty may lead to a non-small residual error in a networked control system and reveal how to analyze such systems. Then we design an event-triggered predictor-based controller with sampled measurements and demonstrate that, depending on the delay uncertainty, one should choose various predictor models to reduce the error due to triggering. For the systems with a network only from a controller to actuators, we…
This paper proposes a unified approach for studying global exponential stability of a general class of switched systems described by time-varying nonlinear functional differential equations. Some new delay-independent criteria of global exponential stability are established for this class of systems under arbitrary switching which satisfies some assumptions on the average dwell time. The obtained criteria are shown to cover and improve many previously known results, including, in particular, sufficient conditions for absolute exponential stability of switched time-delay systems with sector non…
Problem of an adaptive state observer design for nonlinear system with unknown time-varying parameters and under condition of delayed measurements is considered. State observation problem was raised by many researchers (see for example Sanx et al. (2019)). In this paper the results proposed in Bobtsov et al. (2021b), Bobtsov et al. (2021a), Bobtsov et al. (2022a), Bobtsov et al. (2022b) are developed. The problem is solved under assumption that the state matrix can be represented as sum of known and unknown parts. The output vector is measured with a known constant delay. An adaptive observer …
We introduce a new definition of $π$-flatness for linear differential delay systems with time-varying coefficients. We characterize $π$- and $π$-0-flat outputs and provide an algorithm to efficiently compute such outputs. We present an academic example of motion planning to discuss the pertinence of the approach.
The present paper is devoted to the study of average consensus problems for undirected networks of dynamic agents having communication delays. The accent is put here on the study of the time-delays influence: both constant and time-varying delays are considered, as well as uniform and non uniform repartitions of the delays in the network. The main results provide sufficient conditions (also necessary in most cases) for existence of average consensus under bounded, but otherwise unknown, communication delays. Simulations are provided that show adequation with these results.
We study exponential stability for a kind of neural networks having time-varying delay. By extending the auxiliary function-based integral inequality, a novel integral inequality is derived by using weighted orthogonal functions of which one is discontinuous. Then, the new inequality is applied to investigate the exponential stability of time-delay neural networks via Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF) method. Numerical examples are given to verify the advantages of the proposed criterion.
