We consider 1-complemented subspaces (ranges of contractive projections) of vector-valued spaces $\ell_p(X)$, where $X$ is a Banach space with a 1-unconditional basis and $p \in (1,2)\cup (2,\infty)$. If the norm of $X$ is twice continuously differentiable and satisfies certain conditions connecting the norm and the notion of disjointness with respect to the basis, then we prove that every 1-complemented subspace of $\ell_p(X)$ admits a basis of mutually disjoint elements. Moreover, we show that every contractive projection is then an averaging operator. We apply our results to the space $\ell_p(\ell_q)$ with $p,q\in (1,2)\cup (2,\infty)$ and obtain a complete characterization of its 1-complemented subspaces.
In this short note, we prove that the subspace of radial multipliers is contractively complemented in the space of Fourier multipliers on the Bochner space $\mathrm{L}^p(\mathbb{R}^n,X)$ where $X$ is a Banach space and where $1 \leq p <\infty$. Moreover, if $X = \mathbb{C}$, then this complementation preserves the positivity of multipliers.
The current research is devoted to find an affirmative answer to an open question related to $(s,r)-$contractive operators which have been introduced by Ovidiu Popescu.
In this paper some generalized mappings due to L.B. Ciric over a generalized metric space have been studied with illustrative examples. Some theorems with necessary and sufficient conditions have been proved for such mappings on that space.

Necessary and sufficient conditions are given for the solvability of the operator valued two-variable autoregressive filter problem. In addition, in the two variable suboptimal Nehari problem sufficient conditions are given for when a strictly contractive little Hankel has a strictly contractive symbol.
We analyse $C_0$-semigroups of contractive operators on real-valued $L^p$-spaces for $p \not= 2$ and on other classes of non-Hilbert spaces. We show that, under some regularity assumptions on the semigroup, the geometry of the unit ball of those spaces forces the semigroup's generator to have only trivial (point) spectrum on the imaginary axis. This has interesting consequences for the asymptotic behaviour as $t \to \infty$. For example, we can show that a contractive and eventually norm continuous $C_0$-semigroup on a real-valued $L^p$-space automatically converges strongly if $p \not\in \{1,…
Contractive selfadjoint extensions of a Hermitian contraction $B$ in a Hilbert space ${\mathfrak H}$ with an exit in some larger Hilbert space ${\mathfrak H}\oplus{\mathcal H}$ are investigated. This leads to a new geometric approach for characterizing analytic properties of holomorphic operator-valued functions of Kreĭn-Ovcharenko type, a class of functions whose study has been recently initiated by the authors. Compressed resolvents of such exit space extensions are also investigated leading to some new connections to transfer functions of passive discrete-time systems and related classes of…
Recently, Hartz proved that every commuting contractive classical multishift with non-zero weights satisfies the matrix-version of von Neumann's inequality. We show that this result does not extend to the class of commuting operator-valued multishifts with invertible operator weights. In particular, we show that if $A$ and $B$ are commuting contractive $d$-tuples of operators such that $B$ satisfies the matrix-version of von Neumann's inequality and $(1, \ldots, 1)$ is in the algebraic spectrum of $B$, then the tensor product $A \otimes B$ satisfies the von Neumann's inequality if and only if …
In this paper, we establish coincidence fixed point and common fixed point theorems for two mapping in complete $C^*$-algebra-valued metric spaces which satisfy new contractive conditions. Some applications of our obtained results are given.
The goal of this paper is to develop some fundamental and important nonlinear analysis for single-valued mappings under the framework of p-vector spaces, in particular, for locally p-convex spaces for p in (0, 1]. More precisely, based on the fixed point theorem of single-valued continuous condensing mapping in locally p-convex spaces as the starting point, we first establish best approximation results for (single-valued) continuous condensing mappings which are then used to develop new results for three classes of nonlinear mappings consisting of 1) condensing; 2) 1-set contractive; and 3) se…
A contraction $T$ on a Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$ is said to be pure if the sequence $\lbrace T^{*n} \rbrace_{n}$ converges to $0$ in the strong operator topology. In this article, we prove that for contractions $T$, which commute with certain tractable tuples of commuting operators $X = (X_1,\ldots,X_n)$ on $\mathcal{H}$, the following statements are equivalent: (i) $T$ is a pure contraction on $\mathcal{H}$, (ii) the compression $P_{\mathcal{W}(X)}T|_{\mathcal{W}(X)}$ is a pure contraction, where $\mathcal{W}(X)$ is the wandering subspace corresponding to the tuple $X$. An operator-valued m…
In this paper, the notion of $\mathbb{C}$-simulation function is introduced and the existence and uniqueness of common fixed points of two self-mappings satisfying contractive conditions in the setting of complex valued metric spaces via $\mathbb{C}$-simulation functions are studied. Examples are also provided to demonstrate the results. The existence and uniqueness of a first-order periodic differential equation is also obtained as an application of the result.
Banach spaces that are complemented in the second dual are characterised precisely as those spaces $X$ which enjoy the property that for every amenable semigroup $S$ there exists an $X$-valued analogue of an invariant mean defined on the Banach space of all bounded $X$-valued functions on $S$. This was first observed by Bustos Domecq (J. Math. Anal. Appl., 2002), however the original proof was slightly flawed as remarked by Lipecki. The primary aim of this note is to present a corrected version of the proof. We also demonstrate that universally separably injective spaces always admit invariant…
In this paper, we prove some common coupled fixed point theorems for mappings satisfying different contractive conditions in the context of complete $C^*$-algebra-valued metric spaces. Moreover, the paper provides an application to prove the existence and uniqueness of a solution for Fredholm nonlinear integral equations.
Let A be a closed subalgebra of a C*-algebra, that is a closed algebra of Hilbert space operators. We generalize to such operator algebras $A$ several key theorems and concepts from the theory of classical function algebras. In particular we consider several problems that arise when generalizing classical function algebra results involving characters ((contractive) homomorphisms into the scalars) on the algebra. For example, the Jensen inequality, the related Bishop-Ito-Schreiber theorem, and the theory of Gleason parts. We will usually replace characters (classical function algebra case) by D…
We show that the analyticity of semigroups $(T_t)_{t \geq 0}$ of (not necessarily positive) selfadjoint contractive Fourier multipliers on $\mathrm{L}^p$-spaces of any abelian locally compact group is preserved by the tensorisation of the identity operator $\mathrm{Id}_X$ of a Banach space $X$ for a large class of K-convex Banach spaces, answering partially a conjecture of Pisier. The result is even new for semigroups of Fourier multipliers acting on $\mathrm{L}^p(\mathbb{R}^n)$. The proof relies on the use of noncommutative Banach spaces and we give a more general result for semigroups of Fou…
In this paper we study a class $\mathcal R\mathcal S(\mathfrak M)$ of operator functions that are holomorphic in the domain $\mathbb C\setminus\{(-\infty,-1]\cup [1,+\infty)\}$ and whose values are contractive operators in a Hilbert space $(\mathfrak M)$. The functions in $\mathcal R\mathcal S(\mathfrak M)$ are Schur functions in the open unit disk $\mathbb D$ and, in addition, Nevanlinna functions in $\mathbb C_+\cup\mathbb C_-$. Such functions can be realized as transfer functions of minimal passive selfadjoint discrete-time systems. We give various characterizations for the class $\mathcal …
The Kantorovich metric provides a way of measuring the distance between two Borel probability measures on a metric space. This metric has a broad range of applications from bioinformatics to image processing, and is commonly linked to the optimal transport problem in computer science. Noteworthy to this paper will be the role of the Kantorovich metric in the study of iterated function systems, which are families of contractive mappings on a complete metric space. When the underlying metric space is compact, it is well known that the space of Borel probability measures on this metric space, equ…
This paper deals with families of matrix-valued Aleksandrov--Clark measures $\{\boldsymbolμ^α\}_{α\in\mathcal{U}(n)}$, corresponding to purely contractive $n\times n$ matrix functions $b$ on the unit disc of the complex plane. We do not make other apriori assumptions on $b$. In particular, $b$ may be non-inner and/or non-extreme. The study of such families is mainly motivated from applications to unitary finite rank perturbation theory. A description of the absolutely continuous parts of $\boldsymbolμ^α$ is a rather straightforward generalization of the well-known results for the scalar case (…
Let $Ω_+$ be either the open unit disc or the open upper half plane or the open right half plane. In this paper, we compute the norm of the basic operator $A_α=Π_ΘT_{b_α}|_{\mathcal{H}(Θ)}$ in the vector valued model space $\mathcal{H}(Θ)=H^m_2 \ominus ΘH^m_2$ associated with an $m\times m$ matrix valued inner function $Θ$ in $Ω_+$ and show that the norm is attained. Here $Π_Θ$ denotes the orthogonal projection from the Lebesgue space $L^m_2$ onto $\mathcal{H}(Θ)$ and $T_{b_α}$ is the operator of multiplication by the elementary Blaschke factor $b_α$ of degree one with a zero at a point $α\in …
Let $\mathfrak M$ and $\mathfrak N$ be separable Hilbert spaces and let $Θ(λ)$ be a function from the Schur class ${\bf S}(\mathfrak M,\mathfrak N)$ of contractive functions holomorphic on the unit disk. The operator generalization of the classical Schur algorithm associates with $Θ$ the sequence of contractions (the Schur parameters of $Θ$) $Γ_0=Θ(0)\in \bL(\sM,\sN), Γ_n\in\bL(\sD_{Γ_{n-1}}, \sD_{Γ^*_{n-1}}) $ and the sequence of functions $Θ_0 = Θ$, $Θ_n\in {\bf S}(\sD_{Γ_n},\sD_{Γ^*_n})$ $ n=1,...$ (the Schur iterares of $Θ$) connected by the relations \[ Γ_n=Θ_n(0), Θ_n(λ) = Γ_n+λD_{Γ^*_n}…
Let $\mathcal{E}$ be a Hermitian vector bundle over a Riemannian manifold $M$ with metric $g$, let $\nabla$ be a metric covariant derivative on $\mathcal{E}$. We study the generalized Ornstein-Uhlenbeck differential expression $P^{\nabla}=\nabla^{\dagger}\nabla u+\nabla_{(dϕ)^{\sharp}}u-\nabla_{X}u+Vu$, where $\nabla^{\dagger}$ is the formal adjoint of $\nabla$, $(dϕ)^{\sharp}$ is the vector field corresponding to $dϕ$ via $g$, $X$ is a smooth real vector field on $M$, and $V$ is a self-adjoint locally integrable section of the bundle $\textrm{End }\mathcal{E}$. We show that (the negative of) …
