The purpose of the present work is solving the characterization problem for one class of second order operator pencil with complex periodic coefficients, which consists of identification of necessary and sufficient conditions on the scattering data ensuring that the reconstructed potential belongs to a particular class.
Non-self-adjoint second-order differential pencils on a finite interval with non-separated quasi-periodic boundary conditions and jump conditions are studied. We establish properties of spectral characteristics and investigate the inverse spectral problem of recovering the operator from its spectral data. For this inverse problem we prove the corresponding uniqueness theorem and provide an algorithm for constructing its solution.
In the paper, we study an inverse spectral problem for quadratic pencils of the Sturm--Liouville operators with singular coefficients and entire functions in the boundary conditions. We prove that a subspectrum is sufficient for recovering the pencil if this subspectrum generates a complete functional system. As well, we obtain an algorithm solving the inverse problem and alternative conditions on the subspectrum. Finally, these results are applied to studying a partial inverse problem.
The inverse problem for the differential operator pencil with complex periodic potential and discontinuous coefficients on the axis is studied. Main characteristics of the fundamental solutions are investigated, the spectrum of the operator is studied. We give formulation of the inverse problem, prove a uniqueness theorem and provide a constructive procedure for the solution of the inverse problem
We consider a quadratic operator pencil with a small periodic perturbation multiplied by the spectral parameter. It is motivated, in particular, by a one-dimensional Klein-Gordon equation with a time-parity-symmetric perturbation. We study in details the structure of the considered operator pencil. We show that its essential spectrum has a band structure and at certain thresholds, the bands bifurcate into small parabolas. We then study how the isolated limiting eigenvalues behave under the perturbation. We show that if zero is a limiting isolated eigenvalue, under the perturbation it remains a…
In this paper, partial inverse problems for the quadratic pencil of Sturm-Liouville operators on a graph with a loop were studied. These problems consist in recovering the pencil coefficients on one edge of the graph (a boundary edge or the loop) from spectral characteristics, while the coefficients on the other edges are known a priori. We obtain uniqueness theorems and constructive solutions for the partial inverse problems.
The relation between the spectra of operator pencils with unbounded coefficients and of associated linear relations is investigated. It turns out that various types of spectrum coincide and the same is true for the Weyr characteristics. This characteristic describes how many independent Jordan chains up to a certain length exist. Furthermore, the change of this characteristic subject to one-dimensional perturbations is investigated.
The inverse spectral problem for the second-order differential pencil with quadratic dependence on the spectral parameter is studied. We obtain sufficient conditions for the global solvability of the inverse problem, prove its local solvability and stability. The problem is considered in the general case of complex-valued pencil coefficients and arbitrary eigenvalue multiplicities. Studying local solvability and stability, we take the possible splitting of multiple eigenvalues under a small perturbation of the spectrum into account. Our approach is constructive. It is based on the reduction of…
We consider a second order functional-differential pencil with two constant delays of the argument and study the inverse problem of recovering its coefficients from the spectra of two boundary value problems with one common boundary condition. The uniqueness theorem is proved and a constructive procedure for solving this inverse problem along with necessary and sufficient conditions for its solvability is obtained. Moreover, we give a survey on the contemporary state of the inverse spectral theory for operators with delay. The pencil under consideration generalizes Sturm-Liouville-type operato…
The stated paper is dedicated to one of the inverse problems of spectral theory. It is necessary to define matrix (constant) coefficients of some quadratic pencil, if the eigenvalues of this pencil are known. Furthermore, it is known that these eigenvalues are complex valued and besides that they contain their conjugate ones. As is known, it is a problem of one company. We shall approach this problem on some restrictions.
We investigate the problem of similarity to a self-adjoint operator for $J$-positive Sturm-Liouville operators $L=\frac{1}ω(-\frac{d^2}{dx^2}+q)$ with $2π$-periodic coefficients $q$ and $ω$. It is shown that if 0 is a critical point of the operator $L$, then it is a singular critical point. This gives us a new class of $J$-positive differential operators with the singular critical point 0. Also, we extend the Beals and Parfenov regularity conditions for the critical point $\infty$ to the case of operators with periodic coefficients.
We establish a Floquet theorem for a first-order system of differential equations $u'=ru$ where $r$ is an $n\times n$-matrix whose entries are periodic distributions of order $0$. Then we investigate, when $n=1$ and $n=2$, the spectral theory for the equation $Ju'+qu=wf$ on $\mathbb R$ when $J$ is a real, constant, invertible, skew-symmetric matrix and $q$ and $w$ are periodic matrices whose entries are real distributions of order $0$ with $q$ symmetric and $w$ non-negative.
We consider standard and extended CMV matrices with small quasi-periodic Verblunsky coefficients and show that on their essential spectrum, all spectral measures are purely absolutely continuous. This answers a question of Barry Simon from 2005.
For a general ordinary differential operator $\mathcal{L}$ with periodic coefficients we prove that the characteristic polynomial of the Floquet matrix is irreducible over the field of meromorphic functions. We also consider a multipoint eigenvalue problem and show that its eigenspaces are spanned by pure or generalized Floquet solutions. Finally, at the end of the paper we mention some relevant conjectures and open questions.
In this paper we investigate the spectrum of the differential operators generated by the ordinary differential expression of odd order with PT-symmertic periodic matrix coefficients
We consider the self-adjoint fourth-order operator with real $1$-periodic coefficients on the unit interval. The spectrum of this operator is discrete. We determine the high energy asymptotics for its eigenvalues.
In this paper we construct the spectral expansion for the non-self-adjoint differential operators generated in the space of vektor functions by the ordinary differential expression of arbitrary order with the periodic matrix coefficients by using the essential spectral singularities, singular quasimomenta and the series with parenthesis.
We present certain results on the direct and inverse spectral theory of the Jacobi operator with complex periodic coefficients. For instance, we show that any $N$-th degree polynomial whose leading coefficient is $(-1)^N$ is the Hill discriminant of finitely many discrete $N$-periodic Schrödinger operators (Theorem 1). Also, in the case where the spectrum is a closed interval we prove a result (Theorem 5) which is the analog of Borg's Theorem for the non-self-adjoint Jacobi case.
In this paper we consider the spectrum of the self-adjoint differential operator L generated by the differential expression of order n with the m by m periodic matrix coefficients, where n and m are respectively odd and even integers and n>1. We prove that the number of gaps in the spectrum of L is finite and find explicit estimation in term of coefficients for the number of the gaps. Moreover, we find a condition on the norms of the coefficients for which the spectrum is real axis. Besides we investigate the bands of the spectrum and prove that most of the real axis is overlapped by m bands.
We investigate the spectral properties of the maximal operator $A$ associated with a differential expression $\frac 1 w(-\frac d {dx}(p\frac d {dx}) + q)$ with real-valued periodic coefficients $w$, $p$ and $q$ where $w$ changes sign. It turns out that the non-real spectrum of $A$ is bounded, symmetric with respect to the real axis and consists of a finite number of analytic curves. The real spectrum is band-shaped and neither bounded from above nor from below. We characterize the finite spectral singularities of $A$ and prove that there is only a finite number of them. Finally, we provide a c…
In this paper, we study quasi-periodic CMV matrices with Verblunsky coefficients given by the skew-shift. We prove the positivity of Lyapunov exponents and Anderson localization for most frequencies, which establish the analogous results of one-dimensional Schrödinger operators proved by Bourgain, Goldstein and Schlag.
In the paper we consider the Maxwell operator in a three-dimensional cylinder with coefficients periodic along the axis of a cylinder. It is proved that for cylinders with circular and rectangular cross-section the spectrum of the Maxwell operator is absolutely continuous.
Avila recently introduced a new method for the study of the discrete Schrödinger Operator with limit periodic potential. I adapt this method to the context of orthogonal polynomials in the unit circle with limit periodic Verblunsky Coefficients. Specifically, I represent these Verblunsky Coefficients as a continuous sampling of the orbits of a Cantor group by a minimal translation. I then investigate the measures that arise on the unit circle as I vary the sampling function.
We consider extended CMV matrices with analytic quasi-periodic Verblunsky coefficients with Diophantine frequency vector in the perturbatively small coupling constant regime and prove the analyticity of the tongue boundaries. As a consequence we establish that, generically, all gaps of the spectrum that are allowed by the Gap Labelling Theorem are open and hence the spectrum is a Cantor set. We also prove these results for a related class of almost periodic Verblunsky coefficients and present an application to suitable quantum walk models on the integer lattice.
We show Hölder continuity for the integrated density of states of a quasi-periodic Jacobi operator with analytic coefficients, in the regime of positive Lyapunov exponent and with a strong Diophantine condition on the frequency. In particular, when the coefficients are trigonometric polynomials we express the Hölder exponent in terms of the degrees of the coefficients.
