Using the notion of Levi form of a smooth distribution, we discuss the local and the global problem of existence of one horizontal section of a smooth vector bundle endowed with a horizontal distribution. The analysis will lead to the formulation of a "one-leaf" analogue of the classical Frobenius integrability theorem in elementary differential geometry. Several applications of the result will be discussed. First, we will give a characterization of symmetric connections arising as Levi-Civita connections of semi-Riemannian metric tensors. Second, we will prove a general version of the classical Cartan-Ambrose-Hicks Theorem giving conditions on the existence of an affine map with prescribed differential at one point between manifolds endowed with connections.
In this note we announce some results, due to appear in [2], [3], on the structure of integral and normal currents, and their relation to Frobenius theorem. In particular we show that an integral current cannot be tangent to a distribution of planes which is nowhere involutive (Theorem 3.6), and that a normal current which is tangent to an involutive distribution of planes can be locally foliated in terms of integral currents (Theorem 4.3). This statement gives a partial answer to a question raised by Frank Morgan in [1].
We continue the development of $\mathbb{Z}^n_2$-supergeometry, a natural generalization of classical ($\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded) supergeometry, by proving the Frobenius theorem for integrable distributions on differentiable $\mathbb{Z}^n_2$-supermanifolds. Both the local and global versions of the theorem are addressed.
We formulate a notion of (uniform) asymptotic involutivity and show that it implies (unique) integrability of corank-1 continuous distributions in dimensions three or less. This generalizes and extends a classical theorem of Frobenius Theorem which says that an involutive C^1 distribution is uniquely integrable.
A foliation $(M,\mathcal{F})$ is said to be $2$--calibrated if it admits a closed 2-form $ω$ making each leaf symplectic. By using approximately holomorphic techniques, a sequence $W_k$ of $2$--calibrated submanifolds of codimension--$2$ can be found for $(M, \mathcal{F}, ω)$. Our main result says that the Lefschetz hyperplane theorem holds for the pairs $(F, F \cap W_k)$, with $F$ any leaf of $\mathcal{F}$. This is applied to draw important consequences on the transverse geometry of such foliations.
We prove that if a compact Kähler Poisson manifold has a symplectic leaf with finite fundamental group, then after passing to a finite étale cover, it decomposes as the product of the universal cover of the leaf and some other Poisson manifold. As a step in the proof, we establish a special case of Beauville's conjecture on the structure of compact Kähler manifolds with split tangent bundle.
The thesis studies Frobenius-type theorems in non-smooth settings. We extend the definition of involutivity to non-Lipschitz subbundles using generalized functions. We prove the real Frobenius Theorem with sharp regularity on log-Lipschitz subbundles. We also develop a singular version of the Frobenius theorem on log-Lipschitz vector fields: if $X_1,\dots,X_m$ are log-Lipschitz vector fields such that $[X_i,X_j]=\sum_{k=1}^mc_{ij}^kX_k$ where $c_{ij}^k$ are the derivatives of log-Lipschitz functions, then for any point $p$ there is a $C^1$-manifold containing $p$ such that $X_1,\dots,X_m$ span…
Nirenberg's famous complex Frobenius theorem gives necessary and sufficient conditions on a locally integrable structure for when the manifold is locally diffeomorphic to $\mathbb R^r\times\mathbb C^m\times \mathbb R^{N-r-2m}$ through a coordinate chart $F$ in such a way that the structure is locally spanned by $F^*\frac\partial{\partial t^1},\dots,F^*\frac\partial{\partial t^r},F^*\frac\partial{\partial z^1},\dots,F^*\frac\partial{\partial z^m}$, where we have given $\mathbb R^r\times\mathbb C^m \times\mathbb R^{N-r-2m}$ coordinates $(t,z,s)$. In this paper, we give the optimal Hölder-Zygmund…
