We prove the $C^α$ regularity for weak solutions to a class of ultraparabolic equation, with measurable coefficients. The results generalized our recent $C^α$ regularity results of Prandtl's system to high dimensional cases.
We obtained the $C^{\a}$ continuity for weak solutions of a class of ultraparabolic equations with measurable coefficients of the form ${\ptl_t u}= \sum_{i,j=1}^{m_0}X_i(a_{ij}(x,t)X_j u)+X_0 u$. The result is proved by simplifying and generalizing our earlier arguments for the $C^{\a}$ regularity of homogeneous ultraparabolic equations.
Consider a class of non-homogenous ultraparabolic differential equations with drift terms or lower order terms arising from some physical models, and we prove that weak solutions are Hölder continuous, which also generalizes the classic results of parabolic equations of second order. The main ingredients are a type of weak Poincaré inequality satisfied by non-negative weak sub-solutions and Moser iteration.
We obtain the $C^{\a}$ regularity for weak solutions of a class of non-homogeneous ultraparabolic equation, with measurable coefficients. The result generalizes our recent $C^{\a}$ regularity results of homogeneous ultraparabolic equation.
In this paper we establish a constructive method in order to show global existence and regularity for a class of degenerate parabolic Cauchy problems which satisfy a weak Hoermander condition on a subset of the domain where the data are measurable and which have regular data on the complementary set of the domain. This result has practical incentives related to the computation of Greeks in reduced LIBOR market models, which are standard computable approximations of the HJM-description of interest rate markets. The method leads to a probabilistic scheme for the computation of the value function…
We obtained the $C^α$ continuity for weak solutions of a class of ultraparabolic equations with measurable coefficients of the form $${\partial_t u} = \partial_x(a(x,y,t)\partial_x u) +b_0(x,y,t)\partial_x u+b(x,y,t)\partial_y u,$$ which generalized our recent results on KFP equations.
The aim of this work is to prove a Harnack inequality and the Hölder continuity for weak solutions to the Kolmogorov equation $\mathscr{L} u = f$ with measurable coefficients, integrable lower order terms and nonzero source term. We introduce a functional space $\mathcal{W}$, suitable for the study of weak solutions to $\mathscr{L}u = f$, that allows us to prove a weak Poincaré inequality. More precisely, our goal is to prove a weak Harnack inequality for non-negative super-solutions by considering their Log-transform and following S. N. Kruzkov (1963). Then this functional inequality is combi…
In this paper, we study the inverse problem for a class of abstract ultraparabolic equations which is well-known to be ill-posed. We employ some elementary results of semi-group theory to present the formula of solution, then show the instability cause. Since the solution exhibits unstable dependence on the given data functions, we propose a new regularization method to stabilize the solution. then obtain the error estimate. A numerical example shows that the method is efficient and feasible. This work slightly extends to the earlier results in Zouyed et al. \cite{key-9} (2014).
Let $u$ be a positive solution of the ultraparabolic equation \begin{equation*} \partial_t u=\sum_{i=1}^n \partial_{x_i}^2 u+\sum_{i=1}^k x_i\partial_{x_{n+i}}u \hspace{8mm} \mbox{on} \hspace{4mm} \mathbb{R}^{n+k}\times (0,T), \end{equation*} where $1\leq k\leq n$ and $0<T \leq +\infty$. Assume that $u$ and its derivatives (w.r.t. the space variables) up to the second order are bounded on any compact subinterval of $(0,T)$. Then the difference $H(\log u)- H(\log f)$ of the Hessian matrices of $\log u$ and of $\log f$ (both w.r.t. the space variables) is non-negatively definite, where $f$ is th…
We extend the De Giorgi--Nash--Moser theory to a class of kinetic Fokker-Planck equations and deduce new results on the Landau-Coulomb equation. More precisely, we first study the H{ö}lder regularity and establish a Harnack inequality for solutions to a general linear equation of Fokker-Planck type whose coefficients are merely measurable and essentially bounded, i.e. assuming no regularity on the coefficients in order to later derive results for non-linear problems. This general equation has the formal structure of the hypoelliptic equations "of type II" , sometimes also called ultraparabolic…
This article deals with kinetic Fokker-Planck equations with essentially bounded coefficients. A weak Harnack inequality for non-negative super-solutions is derived by considering their Log-transform and following S. N. Kruzhkov (1963). Such a result rests on a new weak Poincar{é} inequality sharing similarities with the one introduced by W. Wang and L. Zhang in a series of works about ultraparabolic equations (2009, 2011, 2017). This functional inequality is combined with a classical covering argument recently adapted by L. Silvestre and the second author (2020) to kinetic equations.
We shall study special regularity properties of solutions to some nonlinear dispersive models. The goal is to show how regularity on the initial data is transferred to the solutions. This will depend on the spaces where regularity is measured.
We establish an optimal C^{1,α}-regularity for viscosity solutions of degenerate/singular fully nonlinear elliptic equations by finding minimal regularity requirements on the associated operator.
We obtain an explicit Hölder regularity result for viscosity solutions of a class of second order fully nonlinear equations leaded by operator that are neither convex/concave nor uniformly elliptic.
Despite the many applications of rate-independent systems, their regularity theory is still largely unexplored. Usually, only weak solution with potentially very low regularity are considered, which requires non-smooth techniques. In this work, however, we directly prove the existence of Hölder-regular strong solutions for a class of rate-independent systems. We also establish further assertions about higher regularity of our solutions. The proof proceeds via a time-discrete Rothe approximation, careful elliptic regularity estimates in the discrete situation and evolutionary techniques.
We consider the Euler equations in a three-dimensional Gevrey-class bounded domain. Using Lagrangian coordinates we obtain the Gevrey-class persistence of the solution, up to the boundary, with an explicit estimate on the rate of decay of the Gevrey-class regularity radius.
We study some regularity issues for solutions of non-autonomous obstacle problems with $(p,q)$-growth. Under suitable assumptions, our analysis covers the main models available in the literature.
In this paper, we study the regularity of weak solutions to a class of nonlocal elliptic equations in Bessel potential spaces $H^{s,p}$. Our main results can be seen as an extension of the well-known $W^{1,p}$ regularity theory for local second-order elliptic equations in divergence form to the nonlocal setting.
We obtain the existence, regularity, uniqueness of the non-stationary problems of a class of non-Newtonian fluid is a power law fluid with $p>9/5$ in the half-space under slip boundary conditions.
In this paper we study the weighted Gevrey class regularity of Euler equation in the whole space R 3. We first establish the local existence of Euler equation in weighted Sobolev space, then obtain the weighted Gevrey regularity of Euler equation. We will use the weighted Sobolev-Gevrey space method to obtain the results of Gevrey regularity of Euler equation, and the use of the property of singular operator in the estimate of the pressure term is the improvement of our work.
We provide the Alexandroff-Bakelman-Pucci estimate and global $C^{1, α}$-regularity for a class of singular/degenerate fully nonlinear elliptic equations. We also derive the existence of a viscosity solution to the Dirichlet problem with the associated operator.
We establish the density of the partial regularity result in the class of continuous viscosity solutions. Given a fully nonlinear equation, we prove the existence of a sequence entitled to the partial regularity result, approximating its solutions. Distinct conditions on the operator driving the equation lead to density in different topologies. Our findings include applications to inhomogeneous problems, with variable-coefficients models.
The issue of so-called maximal regularity is discussed within a Hilbert space framework for a class of evolutionary equations. Viewing evolutionary equations as a sums of two unbounded operators, showing maximal regularity amounts to establishing that the operator sum considered with its natural domain is already closed. For this we use structural constraints of the coefficients rather than semi-group strategies or sesqui-linear form methods, which would be difficult to come by for our general problem class. Our approach, although limited to the Hilbert space case, complements known strategies…
In this paper we study the existence of positive smooth solutions for a class of singular (p(x),q(x))- Laplacian systems by using sub and supersolution methods.
The purpose of this article is twofold. First, an issue of regularity of weak solution to the problem $(P)$ (See below) is addressed. Secondly, we investigate the question of $H^s$ versus $C^0$- weighted minimizers of the functional associated to problem $(P)$ and then give applications to existence and multiplicity results.
We provide a self-contained proof of the solvability and regularity of a Hodge-type elliptic system, wherein the divergence and curl of a vector field are prescribed in an open, bounded, Sobolev-class domain, and either the normal component or the tangential components of the vector field are prescribed on the boundary. The proof is based on a regularity theory for vector elliptic equations set on Sobolev-class domains and with Sobolev-class coefficients.
A general class of singular abstract Cauchy problems is considered which naturally arises in applications to certain Free Boundary Problems. Existence of an associated evolution operator characterizing its solutions is established and is subsequently used to derive optimal regularity results. The latter are well known to be important basic tools needed to deal with corresponding nonlinear Cauchy Problems such as those associated to Free Boundary Problems.
In this paper we establish some results concerning the existence, regularity and concentration phenomenon of nontrivial solitary waves for a Generalized Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (GKP) equation in $\mathbb{R}^2.$ Variational methods are used to get an existence result and to study the concentration phenomenon, while the regularity is more delicate because we are leading with functions in an anisotropic Sobolev space.
In this paper we deal with the problem of regularity for non hypo-elliptic partial differential equations with polynomial coefficients. An operator $A$ on on the space of tempered distributions $\mathcal{S}^\prime$ is regular if $u$ belongs to the Schwartz class $\mathcal S$ whenever $Au\in \mathcal S$. By using tensor products of topological vector spaces and a kind of Wigner transform we reduce the study of regularity of a non hypo-elliptic differential operator, like the twisted laplacian, to a hypo-elliptic one, like the harmonic oscillator.
We prove the existence of infinitely many classical periodic solutions for a class of semilinear wave equations with periodic boundary conditions. Our argument relies on some new estimates for the linear problem with periodic boundary conditions, by combining Littlewood-Paley techniques, the Hausdorff-Young theorem, and a variational formulation due to Rabinowitz. We also develop a new approach to the regularity of the distributional solutions, by employing Gagliardo-Nirenberg estimates.
We deal with a class of semilinear nonlocal differential equations in Hilbert spaces which is a general model for some anomalous diffusion equations. By using the theory of integral equations with completely positive kernel together with local estimates, some existence, regularity and stability results are established. An application to nonlocal partial differential equations is shown to demonstrate our abstract results.
In this paper, we consider the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations, and show that if the $\dot B^{-1}_{\infty,\infty}$-norm of the velocity field is sufficiently small, then the solution is in fact classical.
We establish spatial a priori estimates for the solution u to a class of dilation invariant Kolmogorov equation, where u is assumed to only have a certain amount of regularity in the diffusion's directions. The result is that u is also regular with respect to the remaining directions. The approach we propose is based on the commutators identities and allows us to obtain a Sobolev exponent that does not depend on the integrability assumption of the right-hand side. Lastly, we provide an alternative proof to that of Theorem 1.5 of [9] for the optimal spatial regularity.
This paper establishes global weighted Calderón-Zygmund type regularity estimates for weak solutions of a class of generalized Stokes systems in divergence form. The focus of the paper is on the case that the coefficients in the divergence-form Stokes operator consist of symmetric and skew-symmetric parts, which are both discontinuous. Moreover, the skew-symmetric part is not required to be bounded and therefore it could be singular. Sufficient conditions on the coefficients are provided to ensure the global weighted $W^{1,p}$-regularity estimates for weak solutions of the systems. As a direct…
In the past years, the phenomenon of fractional regularity has been addressed for a large class of linear and/or quasilinear differential operators, mostly, in terms of certain Besov spaces. As it turned out, for equations governed by the $p$-Laplacian, in general, the regularity of solutions appears in terms of functional spaces with nonlinear order of smoothness. Moreover, despite its own interest, fractional regularity methods may be used as a tool for the investigation of some Partial Differential Equations which are not usually addressed in this manner. Thus, the purpose of the present pa…
We study the regularity properties of the solutions to the nonlinear equation with fractional diffusion $$ \partial_tu+(-Δ)^{σ/2}φ(u)=0, $$ posed for $x\in \mathbb{R}^N$, $t>0$, with $0<σ<2$, $N\ge1$. If the nonlinearity satisfies some not very restrictive conditions: $φ\in C^{1,γ}(\mathbb{R})$, $1+γ>σ$, and $φ'(u)>0$ for every $u\in\mathbb{R}$, we prove that bounded weak solutions are classical solutions for all positive times. We also explore sufficient conditions on the non-linearity to obtain higher regularity for the solutions, even $C^\infty$ regularity. Degenerate and singular cases, in…
We establish the uniqueness and regularity of weak (and very weak) solutions to a class of cross diffusion systems which is inspired by models in mathematical biology/ecology, in particular the Shigesada-Kawasaki-Teramoto (SKT) model in population biology. No boundedness assumption on these solutions is supposed here as known techniques for scalar equations such as maximum/comparison principles are generally unavailable for systems. Furthermore, for planar domains we show that unbounded weak solutions satisfying mild integrability conditions are in fact smooth.
This paper is concerned with a class of quasilinear elliptic equations involving some potentials related to the Caffarelli-Korn-Nirenberg inequality. We prove the local boundedness and Hölder continuity of weak solutions by using the classical De Giorgi techniques. Our result extends the results of Serrin \cite{Serrin64} and Corolado and Peral \cite{CP04}.
In this paper we address the regularity issues of drift-diffusion equation with nonlocal diffusion, where the diffusion operator is in the realm of stable-type Lévy operator and the velocity field is defined from the considered quantity by a zero-order pseudo-differential operator. Through using the method of nonlocal maximum principle in a unified way, we prove the eventual regularity result in the supercritical type cases and the global regularity at some logarithmically supercritical cases. The feature of these results is that the time after which the solution is smoothly regular in the sup…
We investigate minimizers defined on a bounded domain $Ω$ in $\mathbb{R}^2$ for singular constrained energy functionals that include Ball and Majumdar's modification of the Landau-de Gennes Q-tensor model for nematic liquid crystals. We prove regularity of minimizers with finite energy and show that their range on compact subdomains of $Ω$ does not intersect the boundary of the constraining set.
Using the harmonic map heat flow and the function spaces of Tataru and the author, we establish a large data local well-posedness result in the energy class for wave maps from two-dimensional Minkowski space $\R^{1+2}$ to hyperbolic spaces $\H^m$. This is one of the five claims required in an earlier paper in this series to prove global regularity for such wave maps.
We consider the motion of incompressible viscous fluids bounded above by a free surface and below by a solid surface in the $N$-dimensional Euclidean space for $N\geq 2$ when the gravity is not taken into account. The aim of this paper is to show the global solvability of the Naiver-Stokes equations with a free surface, describing the above-mentioned motion, in the maximal $L_p\text{-}L_q$ regularity class. Our approach is based on the maximal $L_p\text{-}L_q$ regularity with exponential stability for the linearized equations, and solutions to the original nonlinear problem are also exponentia…
This article is dedicated to the proof of the existence of classical solutions for a class of non-linear integral variational problems. Those problems are involved in nonlocal image and signal processing.
In this article, we investigate the existence, uniqueness, nonexistence, and regularity of weak solutions to the nonlinear fractional elliptic problem of type $(P)$ (see below) involving singular nonlinearity and singular weights in smooth bounded domain. We prove the existence of weak solution in $W_{loc}^{s,p}(Ω)$ via approximation method. Establishing a new comparison principle of independent interest, we prove the uniqueness of weak solution for $0 \leq δ< 1+s- \frac{1}{p}$ and furthermore the nonexistence of weak solution for $δ\geq sp.$ Moreover, by virtue of barrier arguments we study t…
We study a class of second-order boundary-degenerate elliptic equations in two dimensions with minimal regularity assumptions. We prove a maximum principle and a Harnack inequality at the degenerate boundary, and assuming local boundedness, we prove continuity. On globally defined non-negative solutions we provide strong constraints on behavior at infinity, and prove a Liouville-type theorem for entire solutions on the closed half-plane. The class of PDE in question includes many from mathematical finance, Keldysh- and Tricomi-type PDE, and the 2nd order reduction of the fully non-linear 4th o…
We establish the existence and sharp global regularity results ($C^{0, γ}$, $C^{0, 1}$ and $C^{1, α}$ estimates) for a class of fully nonlinear elliptic PDEs with unbalanced variable degeneracy. In a precise way, the degeneracy law of the model switches between two different kinds of degenerate elliptic operators of variable order, according to the null set of a modulating function. Such sharp regularity estimates generalize and improve, to some extent, earlier ones via geometric treatments. Our results are consequences of geometric tangential methods and make use of compactness, localized osc…
In a very general quasilinear setting, we show that the regularizing effect of a first order term causes the existence of energy solutions for problems involving the Hardy potential and $L^1$ data. In the same setting we study sharp (local and global) integral estimates for the second derivatives of the solutions.
