We prove estimates for the sectional curvature of hyperkaehler quotients and give applications to moduli spaces of solutions to Nahm's equations and Hitchin's equations.
We generalize the hyperkaehler quotient construction to the situation where there is no group action preserving the hyperkaehler structure but for each complex structure there is an action of a complex group preserving the corresponding complex symplectic structure. Many (known and new) hyperkaehler manifolds arise as quotients in this setting. For example, all hyperkaehler structures on semisimple coadjoint orbits of a complex semisimple Lie group $G$ arise as such quotients of $T^*G$. The generalized Legendre transform construction of Lindstroem and Rocek is also explained in this framework.
We discuss the correspondence between Nahm's equations, the Basu-Harvey-Terashima equations, and Lie superalgebras.
We give a positive answer to the Berry-Robbins problem for any compact Lie group G, i.e. we show the existence of a smooth W-equivariant map from the space of regular triples in a Cartan subalgebra to the flag manifold G/T. This map is constructed via solutions to Nahm's equations and it is compatible with the SO(3) action, where SO(3) acts on G/T via a regular homomorphism from SU(2) to G. We then generalize this picture to include an arbitrary homomorphism from SU(2) to G. This leads to an interesting geometrical picture which appears to be related to the Springer representation of the Weyl …
We use Nahm data to give a description of a candidate for the universal hyperkahler implosion with respect to a compact Lie group
This paper is a discussion of relations between some free-boundary problems and infinite dimensional Lie groups; particularly a version of Nahm's equations for the group of Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms in two dimensions.
For a 3-manifold $X$ and compact simple Lie group $G$, we study the expansions of polyhomogeneous Nahm pole solutions to the Kapustin-Witten equations over $X\times (0,+\infty)$. Let $y$ be the coordinate of $(0,+\infty)$, we prove that the sub-leading terms of a polyhomogeneous Nahm pole solution is smooth to the boundary when $y\to 0$ if and only if $X$ is an Einstein 3-manifold.
Let M be a compact simply connected hyperkähler (or holomorphically symplectic) manifold, \dim H^2(M)=n. Assume that M is not a product of hyperkaehler manifolds. We prove that the Lie algebra so(n-3,3) acts by automorphisms on the cohomology ring H^*(M). Under this action, the space H^2(M) is isomorphic to the fundamental representation of so(n-3,3). Let A^r be the subring of H^*(M) generated by H^2(M). We construct an action of the Lie algebra so(n-2,4) on the space A, which preserves A^r. The space A^r is an irreducible representation of so(n-2,4). This makes it possible to compute the ring…
In this paper, we study some basic properties of the octonionic Nahm's equations over $[0,1]$. We prove that the moduli space of the smooth solutions to the octonionic Nahm's equations over $[0,1]$ is a star-shaped smooth manifold with a complete metric. In addition, for any commuting triples of the cotangent bundle of a complex Lie group, we construct solutions to the octonionic Nahm's equations. Moreover, we introduce extra symmetry and study a decoupled version of the octonionic Nahm's equations over $[0,1]$. We prove a Kempf-Ness theorem for the meromorphic solutions to the decoupled octon…
Let M be a hypercomplex Hermitian manifold, (M,I) the same manifold considered as a complex Hermitian with a complex structure I induced by the quaternions. The standard linear-algebraic construction produces a canonical nowhere degenerate (2,0)-form on (M,I). It is well known that M is hyperkaehler if and only if the form Ωis closed with respect to the de Rham differential. The M is called HKT (hyperkaehler with torsion) if this form is closed with respect to the Dolbeault differential (this condition is weaker. Conjecturally, all compact hypercomplex manifolds admit an HKT-metrics. We exploi…
Rozansky and Witten proposed in 1996 a family of new three-dimensional topological quantum field theories, indexed by compact (or asymptotically flat) hyperkaehler manifolds. As a byproduct they proved that hyperkaehler manifolds also give rise to Vassiliev weight systems. These may be thought of as invariants of hyperkaehler manifolds, so the theory is of interest to geometers as well as to low-dimensional topologists. This paper surveys the geometrical construction of the weight systems, how they may be integrated into the framework of Lie algebra weight systems (joint work with Simon Willer…
We consider locally conformal Kaehler geometry as an equivariant (homothetic) Kaehler geometry: a locally conformal Kaehler manifold is, up to equivalence, a pair (K,Γ) where K is a Kaehler manifold and Γa discrete Lie group of biholomorphic homotheties acting freely and properly discontinuously. We define a new invariant of a locally conformal Kaehler manifold (K,Γ) as the rank of a natural quotient of Γ, and prove its invariance under reduction. This equivariant point of view leads to a proof that locally conformal Kaehler reduction of compact Vaisman manifolds produces Vaisman manifolds and…
Let G be compact Lie group. It is shown that the cotangent bundle of the complexification of G admits a hyperkahler structure which is invariant under left and right translations by elements of G. The proof is to realize the cotangent bundle of the complex group as a moduli space of solutions to Nahm's equations on the closed interval.
We give a simple interpretation of the adapted complex structure of Lempert-Szoke and Guillemin-Stenzel: it is given by a polar decomposition of the complexified manifold. We then give a twistorial construction of an SO(3)-invariant hypercomplex structure on a neighbourhood of $X$ in $TTX$, where $X$ is a real-analytic manifold equipped with a linear connection. We show that the Nahm equations arise naturally in this context: for a connection with zero curvature and arbitrary torsion, the real sections of the twistor space can be obtained by solving Nahm's equations in the Lie algebra of certa…

The cohomology of a compact Kaehler (resp. hyperKaehler) manifold admits the action of the Lie algebra so(2,1) (resp. so(4,1)). In this paper we show, following an idea of Witten, how this action follows from supersymmetry, in particular from the symmetries of certain supersymmetric sigma models. In addition, many of the fundamental identities in Hodge-Lefschetz theory are also naturally derived from supersymmetry.
The construction of Atiyah, Drinfeld, Hitchin, and Manin [ADHM78] provided complete description of all instantons on Euclidean four-space. It was extended by Kronheimer and Nakajima to instantons on ALE spaces, resolutions of orbifolds $\mathbb{R}^4/Γ$ by a finite subgroup $Γ\subset SU(2).$ We consider a similar classification, in the holomorphic context, of instantons on some of the next spaces in the hierarchy, the ALF multi-Taub-NUT manifolds, showing how they tie in to the bow solutions to Nahm's equations [Che09] via the Nahm correspondence. Recently in [Nak18a] and [NT17], based on [Nak0…
This work has its origins in an attempt to describe systematically the integrable geometries and gauge theories in dimensions one to four related to twistor theory. In each such dimension, there is a nondegenerate integrable geometric structure, governed by a nonlinear integrable differential equation, and each solution of this equation determines a background geometry on which, for any Lie group $G$, an integrable gauge theory is defined. In four dimensions, the geometry is selfdual conformal geometry and the gauge theory is selfdual Yang-Mills theory, while the lower-dimensional structures a…
