We consider here pseudo-differential operators whose symbol $σ(x,ξ)$ is not infinitely smooth with respect to $x$. Decomposing such symbols into four -sometimes five- components and using tools of paradifferential calculus, we derive sharp estimates on the action of such pseudo-differential operators on Sobolev spaces and give explicit expressions for their operator norm in terms of the symbol $σ(x,ξ)$. We also study commutator estimates involving such operators, and generalize or improve the so-called Kato-Ponce and Calderon-Coifman-Meyer estimates in various ways.
The aim of this paper is to show that various known characterizations of traces on classical pseudodifferentials operators (PsiDOs) can actually be obtained by very elementary considerations on PsiDOs, using only basic properties of these operators. Thereby, we give a unified treatment of the determinations of the space of traces (i) on PsiDOs of noninteger orders or of regular parity-class, (ii) on integer order PsiDOs, (iii) on nonpositive order PsiDOs in dimension greather than or equal to 2, and (iv) on nonpositive order PsiDOs in dimension 1.
The gauge covariant magnetic Weyl calculus has been introduced and studied in previous works. We prove criteria in terms of commutators for operators to be magnetic pseudo-differential operators of suitable symbol classes. The approach is completely intrinsic; neither the statements nor the proofs depend on a choice of a vector potential. We apply this criteria to inversion problems, functional calculus, affiliation results and to the study of the evolution group generated by a magnetic pseudo-differential operator.
We prove boundedness results for integral operators of fractional type and their higher order commutators between weighted spaces, including $L^p$-$L^q$, $L^p$-$BMO$ and $L^p$-Lipschitz estimates. The kernels of such operators satisfy certain size condition and a Lipschitz type regularity, and the symbol of the commutator belongs to a Lipschitz class. We also deal with commutators of fractional type operators with less regular kernels satisfying a Hörmander's type inequality. As far as we know, these last results are new even in the unweighted case. Moreover, we give a characterization result …
We discuss boundedness properties of certain classes of discrete bilinear operators that are similar to those of the continuous bilinear pseudodifferential operators with symbols in the Hörmander classes $BS^ω_{1, 0}$. In particular, we investigate their relation to discrete analogues of the bilinear Calderón-Zygmund singular integral operators and show compactness of their commutators.
In this paper, we consider pseudodifferential operators on the torus with operator-valued symbols and prove continuity properties on vector-valued toroidal Besov spaces, without assumptions on the underlying Banach spaces. The symbols are of limited smoothness with respect to $x$ and satisfy a finite number of estimates on the discrete derivatives. The proof of the main result is based on a description of the operator as a convolution operator with a kernel representation which is related to the dyadic decomposition appearing in the definition of the Besov space.
We extend the classical regularity theorem of elliptic operators to maximally hypoelliptic differential operators. More precisely, given vector fields $X_1,\ldots,X_m$ on a smooth manifold which satisfy Hörmander's bracket generating condition, we define a principal symbol for \textit{any} linear differential operator. Our symbol takes into account the vector fields $X_i$ and their commutators. We show that for an arbitrary differential operator, its principal symbol is invertible if and only if the operator is maximally hypoelliptic. This answers affirmatively a conjecture due to Helffer and …
To study the compactness of bilinear commutators of certain bilinear Calderón--Zygmund operators which include (inhomogeneous) Coifman--Meyer bilinear Fourier multipliers and bilinear pseudodifferential operators as special examples, Torres and Xue [Rev. Mat. Iberoam. 36 (2020), 939--956] introduced a new subspace of BMO$\,(\mathbb{R}^n)$, denoted by XMO$\,(\mathbb{R}^n)$, and conjectured that it is just the space VMO$\,(\mathbb{R}^n)$ introduced by D. Sarason. In this article, the authors give a negative answer to this conjecture by establishing an equivalent characterization of XMO$\,(\mathb…
In this paper we consider the linear, time dependent quantum Harmonic Schrödinger equation $i \partial_t u= \frac{1}{2} ( - \partial_x^2 + x^2) u + V(t, x, D)u$, $x \in \mathbb R$, where $V(t,x,D)$ is classical pseudodifferential operator of order 0, selfadjoint, and $2π$ periodic in time. We give sufficient conditions on the principal symbol of $V(t,x,D)$ ensuring the existence of weakly turbulent solutions displaying infinite time growth of Sobolev norms. These conditions are generic in the Frechet space of symbols. This shows that generic, classical pseudodifferential, $2π$-periodic perturb…
We study Mellin pseudodifferential operators (shortly, Mellin PDO's) with symbols in the algebra $\widetilde{\mathcal{E}}(\mathbb{R}_+,V(\mathbb{R}))$ of slowly oscillating functions of limited smoothness introduced in \cite{K09}. We show that if $\mathfrak{a}\in\widetilde{\mathcal{E}}(\mathbb{R}_+,V(\mathbb{R}))$ does not degenerate on the "boundary" of $\mathbb{R}_+\times\mathbb{R}$ in a certain sense, then the Mellin PDO ${\rm Op}(\mathfrak{a})$ is Fredholm on the space $L^p$ for $p\in(1,\infty)$ and each its regularizer is of the form ${\rm Op}(\mathfrak{b})+K$ where $K$ is a compact opera…

This is a introductory course focusing some basic notions in pseudodifferential operators ($Ψ$DOs) and microlocal analysis. We start this lecture notes with some notations and necessary preliminaries. Then the notion of symbols and $Ψ$DOs are introduced. In Chapter 3 we define the oscillatory integrals of different types. Chapter 4 is devoted to the stationary phase lemmas. One of the features of the lecture is that the stationary phase lemmas are proved for not only compactly supported functions but also for more general functions with certain order of smoothness and certain order of growth a…
We first consider two types of localizations of singular integral operators of convolution type, and show, under mild decay and smoothness conditions on the auxiliary functions, that their boundedness on the local Hardy space $h^1(\mathbb{R}^n)$ is equivalent. We then study the boundedness on $h^1(\mathbb{R}^n)$ of the commutator $[b,T]$ of an inhomogeneous singular integral operator with $b$ in $bmo(\mathbb{R}^n)$, the nonhomogeneous space of functions of bounded mean oscillation. We define local analogues of the atomic space $H^1_b(\mathbb{R}^n)$ introduced by Pérez in the case of the homoge…
We obtain new multilinear multiplier theorems for symbols of restricted smoothness which lie locally in certain Sobolev spaces. We provide applications concerning the boundedness of the commutators of Calderón and Calderón-Coifman-Journé.
For a strongly elliptic second-order operator $A$ on a bounded domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ it has been known for many years how to interpret the general closed $L_2(Ω)$-realizations of $A$ as representing boundary conditions (generally nonlocal), when the domain and coefficients are smooth. The purpose of the present paper is to extend this representation to nonsmooth domains and coefficients, including the case of Hölder $C^{\frac32+\varepsilon}$-smoothness, in such a way that pseudodifferential methods are still available for resolvent constructions and ellipticity considerations. We show…
We consider the operator algebra generated by pseudodifferential operators on a closed smooth surface and shift operator induced by a Morse--Smale diffeomorphism of this surface. Elements in this algebra are considered as operators in the scale of Sobolev spaces and the aim of this paper is to describe how Fredholm property of a given operator depends on the Sobolev smoothness exponent $s$.
We construct an analogue of Kontsevich and Vishik's canonical trace for a class of pseudodifferential boundary value problems in Boutet de Monvel's calculus on compact manifolds with boundary. For an operator A in the calculus (of class zero), and an auxiliary operator B, formed of the Dirichlet realization of a strongly elliptic second-order differential operator and an elliptic operator on the boundary, we consider the coefficient C_0(A,B) of (-λ)^{-N} in the asymptotic expansion of the resolvent trace Tr(A(B-λ)^{-N}) (with N large) in powers and log-powers of λas λtends to infinity in a sui…
We prove in this paper resolvent estimates for the boundary values of resolvents of selfadjoint operators on a Krein space: if $H$ is a selfadjoint operator on a Krein space $\cH$, equipped with the Krein scalar product $\langle \cdot| \cdot \rangle$, $A$ is the generator of a $C_{0}-$group on $\cH$ and $I\subset \rr$ is an interval such that: \begin{itemize} \item[]1) $H$ admits a Borel functional calculus on $I$, \item[]2) the spectral projection $\one_{I}(H)$ is positive in the Krein sense, \item[]3) the following {\em positive commutator estimate} holds: \[ \Re \langle u| [H, ıA]u\rangle\g…
