We consider a four-vertex model introduced by Bálint Tóth: a dependent bond percolation model on $\mathbb{Z}^2$ in which every edge is present with probability 1/2 and each vertex has exactly two incident edges, perpendicular to each other. We prove that all components are finite cycles almost surely, but the expected diameter of the cycle containing the origin is infinite. Moreover, we derive the following critical exponents: the tail probability $\mathbb{P}$(diameter of the cycle of the origin $>$$n$) $\approx$ $n^{-γ}$ and the expectation $\mathbb{E}$(length of a typical cycle with diameter $n)\approx n^δ$, with $γ=(5-\sqrt{17})/4=0.219...$ and $δ=(\sqrt{17}+1)/4=1.28....$ The value of $δ$ comes from a singular sixth order ODE, while the relation $γ+δ=3/2$ corresponds to the fact that the scaling limit of the natural height function in the model is the additive Brownian motion, whose level sets have Hausdorff dimension 3/2. We also include many open problems, for example, on the conformal invariance of certain linear entropy models.
For stationary first passage percolation in two dimensions, the existence and uniqueness of semi-infinite geodesics directed in particular directions or sectors has been considered by Damron and Hanson (Commun. Math. Phys., 2014), Ahlberg and Hoffman (preprint, 2016), and others. However the main results do not cover geodesics in the direction of corners of the limit shape $\mathcal{B}$, where two facets meet. We construct an example with the following properties: (i) the limiting shape is an octagon, (ii) semi-infinite geodesics exist only in the four axis directions, and (iii) in each axis d…
Corner percolation is a dependent bond percolation model on Z^2 introduced by Bálint Tóth, in which each vertex has exactly two incident edges, perpendicular to each other. Gábor Pete has proven in 2008 that under the maximal entropy probability measure, all connected components are finite cycles almost surely. We consider here a regime where West and North directions are preferred with probability p and q respectively, with (p,q) different from (1/2,1/2). We prove that there exists almost surely an infinite number of infinite connected components, which are in fact infinite paths. Furthermore…
We derive three critical exponents for Bernoulli site percolation on the on the Uniform Infinite Planar Triangulation (UIPT). First we compute explicitly the probability that the root cluster is infinite. As a consequence, we show that the off-critical exponent for site percolation on the UIPT is $β= 1/2$. Then we establish an integral formula for the generating function of the number of vertices in the root cluster. We use this formula to prove that, at criticality, the probability that the root cluster has at least $n$ vertices decays like $n^{-1/7}$. Finally, we also derive an expression fo…
We consider invasion percolation on a rooted regular tree. For the infinite cluster invaded from the root, we identify the scaling behavior of its $r$-point function for any $r\geq2$ and of its volume both at a given height and below a given height. We find that while the power laws of the scaling are the same as for the incipient infinite cluster for ordinary percolation, the scaling functions differ. Thus, somewhat surprisingly, the two clusters behave differently; in fact, we prove that their laws are mutually singular. In addition, we derive scaling estimates for simple random walk on the …
We study the directed last-passage percolation model on the planar integer lattice with nearest-neighbor steps and general i.i.d. weights on the vertices, outside the class of exactly solvable models. Stationary cocycles are constructed for this percolation model from queueing fixed points. These cocycles serve as boundary conditions for stationary last-passage percolation, define solutions to variational formulas that characterize limit shapes, and yield new results for Busemann functions, geodesics and the competition interface.
We develop a cluster expansion for the probability of full connectivity of high density random networks in confined geometries. In contrast to percolation phenomena at lower densities, boundary effects, which have previously been largely neglected, are not only relevant but dominant. We derive general analytical formulas that show a persistence of universality in a different form to percolation theory, and provide numerical confirmation. We also demonstrate the simplicity of our approach in three simple but instructive examples and discuss the practical benefits of its application to different…
This paper gives a self-contained proof of the non-existence of nontrivial bi-infinite geodesics in directed planar last-passage percolation with exponential weights. The techniques used are couplings, coarse graining, and control of geodesics through planarity and estimates derived from increment-stationary versions of the last-passage percolation process.
We study the directed last-passage percolation model on the planar square lattice with nearest-neighbor steps and general i.i.d. weights on the vertices, outside of the class of exactly solvable models. Stationary cocycles are constructed for this percolation model from queueing fixed points. These cocycles serve as boundary conditions for stationary last-passage percolation, solve variational formulas that characterize limit shapes, and yield existence of Busemann functions in directions where the shape has some regularity. In a sequel to this paper the cocycles will be used to prove results …
We study the last-passage growth model on the planar integer lattice with exponential weights. With boundary conditions that represent the equilibrium exclusion process as seen from a particle right after its jump we prove that the variance of the last-passage time in a characteristic direction is of order t^{2/3}. With more general boundary conditions that include the rarefaction fan case we show that the last-passage time fluctuations are still of order t^{1/3}, and also that the transversal fluctuations of the maximal path have order t^{2/3}. We adapt and then build on a recent study of Ham…
Consider independent bond percolation with retention probability p on a spherically symmetric tree Gamma. Write theta_Gamma(p) for the probability that the root is in an infinite open cluster, and define the critical value p_c=inf{p:theta_Gamma(p)>0}. If theta_Gamma(p_c)=0, then the root may still percolate in the corresponding dynamical percolation process at the critical value p_c, as demonstrated recently by Haggstrom, Peres and Steif. Here we relate this phenomenon to the near-critical behaviour of theta_Gamma(p) by showing that the root percolates in the dynamical percolation process if a…
We consider a directed percolation process on an ${\cal M}$ x ${\cal N}$ rectangular lattice whose vertical edges are directed upward with an occupation probability y and horizontal edges directed toward the right with occupation probabilities x and 1 in alternate rows. We deduce a closed-form expression for the percolation probability P(x,y), the probability that one or more directed paths connect the lower-left and upper-right corner sites of the lattice. It is shown that P(x,y) is critical in the aspect ratio $a = {\cal M}/{\cal N}$ at a value $a_c =[1-y^2-x(1-y)^2]/2y^2$ where P(x,y) is di…
Tile (\mathbb{R}^2\) into disjoint unit squares (\{S_k\}_{k \geq 0}\) with the origin being the centre of \(S_0\) and say that (S_i\) and (S_j\) are star adjacent if they share a corner and plus adjacent if they share an edge. Every square is either vacant or occupied. Outermost boundaries of finite star and plus connected components frequently arise in the context of contour analysis in percolation and random graphs. In this paper, we derive the outermost boundaries for finite star and plus connected components using a piecewise cycle merging algorithm. For plus connected components, the oute…

Every square is either vacant or occupied. In this paper, we use the structure of the outermost boundaries derived in Ganesan (2017) to alternately obtain duality between star and plus connected components in the following sense: There is a star connected cycle of vacant squares attached to and surrounding the finite plus connected component containing the origin.
Percolation with edge-passage probability p and first-passage percolation are studied for the n-cube B_n ={0,1}^n with nearest neighbor edges. For oriented and unoriented percolation, p=e/n and p=1/n are the respective critical probabilities. For oriented first-passage percolation with i.i.d. edge-passage times having a density of 1 near the origin, the percolation time (time to reach the opposite corner of the cube) converges in probability to 1 as n->infty. This resolves a conjecture of David Aldous. When the edge-passage distribution is standard exponential, the (smaller) percolation time f…
In this paper we study a variation of the accessibility percolation model, this is also motivated by evolutionary biology and evolutionary computation. Consider a tree whose vertices are labeled with random numbers. We study the probability of having a monotone subsequence of a path from the root to a leaf, where any $k$ consecutive vertices in the path contain at least one vertex of the subsequence. An $n$-ary tree, with height $h$, is a tree whose vertices at distance at most $h-1$ to the root have $n$ children. For the case of $n$-ary trees, we prove that, as $h$ tends to infinity the proba…
We study the directed last-passage percolation model on the planar integer lattice with nearest-neighbor steps and general i.i.d. weights on the vertices, outside the class of exactly solvable models. In a previous paper we constructed stationary cocycles and Busemann functions for this model. Using these objects, we prove new results on the competition interface, on existence, uniqueness, and coalescence of directional semi-infinite geodesics, and on nonexistence of doubly infinite geodesics.
We introduce a new framework for analyzing Glauber dynamics for the Ising model. The traditional approach for obtaining sharp mixing results has been to appeal to estimates on spatial properties of the stationary measure from within a multi-scale analysis of the dynamics. Here we propose to study these simultaneously by examining "information percolation" clusters in the space-time slab. Using this framework, we obtain new results for the Ising model on $(\mathbb{Z}/n\mathbb{Z})^d$ throughout the high temperature regime: total-variation mixing exhibits cutoff with an $O(1)$-window around the t…

Every square is either vacant or occupied. If the occupied plus-connected component \(C^+(0)\) containing the origin is finite, it is known that the outermost boundary \(\partial^+_0\) of \(C^+(0)\) is a unique cycle surrounding the origin. For the finite occupied star-connected component \(C(0)\) containing the origin, we prove in this paper that the outermost bound…
We consider an inhomogeneous oriented percolation model introduced by de Lima, Rolla and Valesin. In this model, the underlying graph is an oriented rooted tree in which each vertex points to each of its $d$ children with `short' edges, and in addition, each vertex points to each of its $d^k$ descendant at a fixed distance $k$ with `long' edges. A bond percolation process is then considered on this graph, with the prescription that independently, short edges are open with probability $p$ and long edges are open with probability $q$. We study the behavior of the critical curve $q_c(p)$: we find…
Bootstrap percolation on an arbitrary graph has a random initial configuration, where each vertex is occupied with probability p, independently of each other, and a deterministic spreading rule with a fixed parameter k: if a vacant site has at least k occupied neighbors at a certain time step, then it becomes occupied in the next step. This process is well-studied on Z^d; here we investigate it on regular and general infinite trees and on non-amenable Cayley graphs. The critical probability is the infimum of those values of p for which the process achieves complete occupation with positive pro…

We consider a class of reinforcement processes, called WARMs, on tree graphs. These processes involve a parameter $α$ which governs the strength of the reinforcement, and a collection of Poisson processes indexed by the vertices of the graph. It has recently been proved that for any fixed bounded degree graph with Poisson firing rates that are uniformly bounded above, in the very strong reinforcement regime ($α\gg 1$ sufficiently large depending on the maximal degree), the set of edges that "survive" (i.e. that are reinforced infinitely often by the process) has only finite connected component…
One model of real-life spreading processes is First Passage Percolation (also called SI model) on random graphs. Social interactions often follow bursty patterns, which are usually modelled with i.i.d.~heavy-tailed passage times on edges. On the other hand, random graphs are often locally tree-like, and spreading on trees with leaves might be very slow, because of bottleneck edges with huge passage times. Here we consider the SI model with passage times following a power law distribution $\mathbb{P}(ξ>t)\sim t^{-α}$, with infinite mean. For any finite connected graph $G$ with a root $s$, we fi…
