Intersection pairings on singular moduli spaces of bundles over a Riemann surface and their partial desingularisations

This paper studies intersection theory on the compactified moduli space M(n,d) of holomorphic bundles of rank n and degree d over a fixed compact Riemann surface of genus g > 1 where n and d may have common factors. Because of the presence of singularities we work with the intersection cohomology groups defined by Goresky and MacPherson and the ordinary cohomology groups of a certain partial resolution of singularities of M(n,d). Singular cotangent bundle reduction and spin Calogero-Moser systems

We develop a bundle picture for the case that the configuration manifold has only a single isotropy type, and give a formula for the reduced symplectic form in this setting. Furthermore, as an application of this bundle picture we consider Calogero-Moser systems with spin associated to polar representations of compact Lie groups.

Singular symplectic cotangent bundle reduction of gauge field theory

We prove a theorem on singular symplectic cotangent bundle reduction in the Fréchet setting and apply it to Yang-Mills-Higgs theory with special emphasis on the Higgs sector of the Glashow-Weinberg-Salam model. For the latter model we give a detailed description of the reduced phase space and show that the singular structure is encoded in a finite-dimensional Lie group action.

Singular Poisson reduction of cotangent bundles

We consider the Poisson reduced space $(T^*Q)/K$ with respect to a cotangent lifted action. It is assumed that $K$ is a compact Lie group which acts by isometries on the Riemannian manifold $Q$ and that the action on $Q$ is of single isotropy type. Realizing $(T^*Q)/K$ as a Weinstein space we determine the induced Poisson structure and its symplectic leaves. We thus extend the Weinstein construction for principal fiber bundles to the case of surjective Riemannian submersions $Q\to Q/K$.

Commutators, Lefschetz fibrations and the signatures of surface bundles

We construct examples of Lefschetz fibrations with prescribed singular fibers. By taking differences of pairs of such fibrations with the same singular fibers, we obtain new examples of surface bundles over surfaces with non-zero signature. From these we derive new upper bounds for the minimal genus of a surface representing a given element in the second homology of a mapping class group.

Singular Lagrangian Systems on Jet Bundles

The jet bundle description of time-dependent mechanics is revisited. The constraint algorithm for singular Lagrangians is discussed and an exhaustive description of the constraint functions is given. By means of auxiliary connections we give a basis of constraint functions in the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian sides. An additional description of constraints is also given considering at the same time compatibility, stability and second-order condition problems.
