Some remarks on Heegner point computations

We explain how to find a rational point on a rational elliptic curve of rank 1 using Heegner points. We give some examples, and list new algorithms that are due to Cremona and Delaunay. These are notes from a short course given at the Institut Henri Poincare in December 2004.

Heegner points and Eisenstein series

We give an alternative computation of the twisted second moment of critival values of class group $L$-functions attached to an imaginary quadratic field. The method avoids long calculations and yields the expected polynomial growth in the $s$-parameter for the remaining term.

Explicit Heegner Points: Kolyvagin's Conjecture and Non-trivial Elements in the Shafarevich-Tate Group

Kolyvagin used Heegner points to associate a system of cohomology classes to an elliptic curve over $\Q$ and conjectured that the system contains a non-trivial class. His conjecture has profound implications on the structure of Selmer groups. We provide new computational and theoretical evidence for Kolyvagin's conjecture. $p$-adic Gross-Zagier Formula for Heegner Points on Shimura Curves over Totally Real Fields

The main result of this text is a generalization of Perrin-Riou's p-adic Gross-Zagier formula to the case of Shimura curves over totally real fields. Let $F$ be a totally real field. Let $f$ be a Hilbert modular form over $F$ of parallel weight $2$, which is a new form and is ordinary at $p$. Computation of ATR Darmon points on non-geometrically modular elliptic curves

ATR points were introduced by Darmon as a conjectural construction of algebraic points on certain elliptic curves for which in general the Heegner point method is not available. So far the only numerical evidence, provided by Darmon--Logan and Gärtner, concerned curves arising as quotients of Shimura curves. In those special cases the ATR points can be obtained from the already existing Heegner points, thanks to results of Zhang and Darmon--Rotger--Zhao. On the index of the Heegner subgroup of elliptic curves

Let E be an elliptic curve of conductor N and rank one over Q. So there is a non-constant morphism X+0(N) --> E defined over Q, where X+0(N) = X0(N)/wN and wN is the Fricke involution of the modular curve X+0(N). Explicit realization of elements of the Tate-Shafarevich group constructed from Kolyvagin classes

We consider the Kolyvagin cohomology classes associated to an elliptic curve $E$ defined over $\mathbb{Q}$ from a computational point of view. We explain how to go from a model of a class as an element of $(E(L)/pE(L))^{\mathrm{Gal}(L/\mathbb{Q})}$, where $p$ is prime and $L$ is a dihedral extension of $\mathbb{Q}$ of degree $2p$, to a geometric model as a genus one curve embedded in $\mathbb{P}^{p-1}$. Some Remarks on Small Values of $τ(n)$

A natural variant of Lehmer's conjecture that the Ramanujan $τ$-function never vanishes asks whether, for any given integer $α$, there exist any $n \in \mathbb{Z}^+$ such that $τ(n) = α$. A series of recent papers excludes many integers as possible values of the $τ$-function using the theory of primitive divisors of Lucas numbers, computations of integer points on curves, and congruences for $τ(n)$. Remarks on Euclidean Minima

The Euclidean minimum $M(K)$ of a number field $K$ is an important numerical invariant that indicates whether $K$ is norm-Euclidean. When $K$ is a non-CM field of unit rank 2 or higher, Cerri showed $M(K)$, as the supremum in the Euclidean spectrum $Spec(K)$, is isolated and attained and can be computed in finite time. We extend Cerri's works by applying recent dynamical results of Lindenstrauss and Wang. Isogeny volcanoes

The remarkable structure and computationally explicit form of isogeny graphs of elliptic curves over a finite field has made them an important tool for computational number theorists and practitioners of elliptic curve cryptography. This expository paper recounts the theory behind these graphs and examines several recently developed algorithms that realize substantial (often dramatic) performance gains by exploiting this theory.
