In this work, we consider rational ordinary differential equations dy/dx = Q(x,y)/P(x,y), with Q(x,y) and P(x,y) coprime polynomials with real coefficients. We give a method to construct equations of this type for which a first integral can be expressed from two independent solutions of a second-order homogeneous linear differential equation. This first integral is, in general, given by a non Liouvillian function. We show that all the known families of quadratic systems with an irreducible invariant algebraic curve of arbitrarily high degree and without a rational first integral can be constructed by using this method. We also present a new example of this kind of families. We give an analogous method for constructing rational equations but by means of a linear differential equation of first order.
We study the planar three-body problem and prove the absence of a complete set of complex meromorphic first integrals in a neighborhood of the Lagrangian solution.
We study a necessary condition for the integrability of the polynomials fields in the plane by means of the differential Galois theory. More concretely, by means of the variational equations around a particular solution it is obtained a necessary condition for the existence of a rational first integral. The method is systematic starting with the first order variational equation. We illustrate this result with several families of examples. A key point is to check wether a suitable primitive is elementary or not. Using a theorem by Liouville, the problem is equivalent to the existence of a ratio…
M.F. Singer [Liouvillian first integrals of differential equations, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 333 (1992), 673--688] proved the equivalence between Liouvillian integrability and Darboux integrability for two dimensional polynomial differential systems. In this paper we will extend Singer's result to any finite dimensional polynomial differential systems. We prove that if an n--dimensional polynomial differential system has n-1 functionally independent Darboux Jacobian multiplier then it has n-1 functionally independent Liouvillian first integrals. Conversely if the system is Liouvillian integrabl…
The integrability problem consists in finding the class of functions a first integral of a given planar polynomial differential system must belong to. We recall the characterization of systems which admit an elementary or Liouvillian first integral. We define {\it Weierstrass integrability} and we determine which Weierstrass integrable systems are Liouvillian integrable. Inside this new class of integrable systems there are non--Liouvillian integrable systems.
We study the planar three-body problem and prove the absence of a complete set of complex meromorphic first integrals in a neighborhood of the Lagrangian solution. We use the Ziglin's method and study the monodromy group of the corresponding normal variational equations.
For an $n$--dimensional local analytic differential system $\dot x=Ax+f(x)$ with $f(x)=O(|x|^2)$, the Poincaré nonintegrability theorem states that if the eigenvalues of $A$ are not resonant, the system does not have an analytic or a formal first integral in a neighborhood of the origin. This result was extended in 2003 to the case when $A$ admits one zero eigenvalue and the other are non--resonant: for $n=2$ the system has an analytic first integral at the origin if and only if the origin is a non--isolated singular point; for $n>2$ the system has a formal first integral at the origin if and …
This paper is devoted to integrability conditions for systems of linear difference and differential equations with difference parameters. It is shown that such a system is difference isomonodromic if and only if it is difference isomonodromic with respect to each parameter separately. Due to this result, it is no longer necessary to solve non-linear difference equations to verify isomonodromicity, which will improve efficiency of computation with these systems.
We study the integrability of polynomial vector fields using Galois theory of linear differential equations when the associated foliations is reduced to a Riccati type foliation. In particular we obtain integrability results for some families of quadratic vector fields, Liénard equations and equations related with special functions such as Hypergeometric and Heun ones. The Poincaré problem for some families is also approached.
Let $[A]: Y'=AY$ with $A\in \mathrm{M}_n (k)$ be a differential linear system. We say that a matrix $R\in {\cal M}_{n}(\bar{k})$ is a {\em reduced form} of $[A]$ if $R\in \mathfrak{g}(\bar{k})$ and there exists $P\in GL_n (\bar{k})$ such that $R=P^{-1}(AP-P')\in \mathfrak{g}(\bar{k})$. Such a form is often the sparsest possible attainable through gauge transformations without introducing new transcendants. In this article, we discuss how to compute reduced forms of some symplectic differential systems, arising as variational equations of hamiltonian systems. We use this to give an effective fo…
In this paper we provide a new method to study global dynamics of planar quasi--homogeneous differential systems. We first prove that all planar quasi--homogeneous polynomial differential systems can be translated into homogeneous differential systems and show that all quintic quasi--homogeneous but non--homogeneous systems can be reduced to four homogeneous ones. Then we present some properties of homogeneous systems, which can be used to discuss the dynamics of quasi--homogeneous systems. Finally we characterize the global topological phase portraits of quintic quasi--homogeneous but non--ho…
We discuss the interrelations between symmetry of an Ito stochastic differential equations (or systems thereof) and its integrability, extending in party results by R. Kozlov [J. Phys. A ${\bf 43}$ (2010) \& ${\bf 44}$ (2011)]. Together with integrability, we also consider the relations between symmetries and reducibility of a system of SDEs to a lower dimensional one. We consider both "deterministic" symmetries and "random" ones, in the sense introduced recently by Gaeta and Spadaro [J.Math. Phys. ${\bf 58}$ (2017)].
We study integrability of the Euler-Poisson equations describing the motion of a rigid body with one fixed point in a constant gravity field. Using the Morales-Ramis theory and tools of differential algebra we prove that a symmetric heavy top is integrable only in the classical cases of Euler, Lagrange, and Kovalevskaya and is partially integrable only in the Goryachev-Chaplygin case. Our proof is alternative to that given by Ziglin ({\em Funktsional. Anal. i Prilozhen.}, 17(1):8--23, 1983; {\em Funktsional. Anal. i Prilozhen.}, 31(1):3--11, 95, 1997).
In this paper we present a short material concerning to some results in Morales-Ramis theory, which relates two different notions of integrability: Integrability of Hamiltonian Systems through Liouville Arnold Theorem and Integrability of Linear Differential Equations through Differential Galois Theory. As contribution, we obtain the abelian differential Galois group of the variational equation related to a bi-parametric Hamiltonian system,
We consider the Newtonian planar three--body problem with positive masses $m_1$, $m_2$, $m_3$. We prove that it does not have an additional first integral meromorphic in the complex neighborhood of the parabolic Lagrangian orbit besides three exceptional cases $ \sum m_i m_j/(\sum m_k)^2= 1/3$, $2^3/3^3$, $2/3^2$ where the linearized equations are shown to be partially integrable. This result completes the non-integrability analysis of the three-body problem started in our previous papers and based of the Morales-Ramis-Ziglin approach.
We study the integrability of the general two-dimensional Zakharov-Shabat systems, which appear in application of the inverse scattering transform (IST) to an important class of nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) called integrable systems, in the meaning of differential Galois theory, i.e., their solvability by quadrature. It becomes a key for obtaining analytical solutions to the PDEs by using the IST. For a wide class of potentials, we prove that they are integrable in that meaning if and only if the potentials are reflectionless. It is well known that for such potentials partic…
n this paper we formulate necessary conditions for the integrability in the Jacobi sense of Newton equations $\ddot \vq=-\vF(\vq)$, where $\vq\in\C^n$ and all components of $\vF$ are polynomial and homogeneous of the same degree $l$. These conditions are derived from an analysis of the differential Galois group of the variational equations along special particular solutions of the Newton equations. We show that, taking all admissible particular solutions, we restrict considerably the set of Newton's equations satisfying the necessary conditions for the integrability. Moreover, we apply the obt…
