In this paper we provide a new method to study global dynamics of planar quasi--homogeneous differential systems. We first prove that all planar quasi--homogeneous polynomial differential systems can be translated into homogeneous differential systems and show that all quintic quasi--homogeneous but non--homogeneous systems can be reduced to four homogeneous ones. Then we present some properties of homogeneous systems, which can be used to discuss the dynamics of quasi--homogeneous systems. Finally we characterize the global topological phase portraits of quintic quasi--homogeneous but non--homogeneous differential systems.
In this paper we research global dynamics and bifurcations of planar piecewise smooth quadratic quasi--homogeneous but non-homogeneous polynomial differential systems. We present sufficient and necessary conditions for the existence of a center in piecewise smooth quadratic quasi--homogeneous systems. Moreover, the center is global and non-isochronous if it exists, which cannot appear in smooth quadratic quasi-homogeneous systems. Then the global structures of piecewise smooth quadratic quasi--homogeneous but non-homogeneous systems are studied. Finally we investigate limit cycle bifurcations …
This paper study the planar semi-quasi homogeneous polynomial differential systems (short for PSQHPDS), which can be regard as a generalization of semi-homogeneous and of quasi-homogeneous systems. By using the algebraic skills, several important properties of PSQHPDS are derived and are employed to establish an algorithm for obtaining all the explicit expressions of PSQHPDS with a given degree. Afterward, we apply this algorithm to research the center problem of quadratic and cubic PSQHPDS. It is proved that the quadratic one hasn't center, and, that the cubic one has center if and only if it…
Central configurations give rise to self-similar solutions to the Newtonian $N$-body problem, and play important roles in understanding its complicated dynamics. Even the simple question of whether or not there are finitely many planar central configurations for $N$ positive masses remains unsolved in most cases. Considering central configurations as critical points of a function $f$, we explicity compute the eigenvalues of the Hessian of $f$ for all $N$ for the point vortex potential for the regular polygon with equal masses. For homogeneous potentials including the Newtonian case we compute …
The existence and bifurcation of homoclinic orbits in planar piecewise linear homogeneous systems with two regions separated by a discontinuity boundary are investigated in this paper. In addition, existence of periodic orbits and stability of the origin are also discussed without the assumption of continuity for the planar piecewise linear homogeneous systems.
Let W be a weight-homogeneous planar polynomial differential system with a center. We find an upper bound of the number of limit cycles which bifurcate from the period annulus of W under a generic polynomial perturbation. We apply this result to a particular family of planar polynomial systems having a nilpotent center without meromorphic first integral.
We study the phase portraits with positive probability of random planar homogeneous vector fields of degree n. In particular, for n=1,2,3, we give a complete solution of the problem and, moreover, either we give the exact value of each probability or we estimate it by using the Monte Carlo method. It is remarkable that all but two of these phase portraits are characterized by their index at the origin and by their number of invariant straight lines through it.
In this paper we find the families of relative equilibria for the three body problem in the plane, when the interaction between the bodies is given by a quasi-homogeneous potential, which is the sum of two homogeneous functions. The number of the relative equilibria depends of the values of the masses and of the size of the system, measured by the moment of inertia.
The aim of this paper is to construct formal normal forms for the class of topologically quasi-homogeneous foliations under generic conditions. Any such normal form is given as the sum of three terms: an initial generic quasi-homogeneous term, a hamiltonian term and a radial term. Moreover, we also show that the number of free coefficients in the hamiltonian part is consistent with the dimension of Mattei's moduli space of unfoldings.
We prove a result of classification for germs of formal and convergent quasi-homogeneous foliations in C^2 with fixed separatrix. Basically, we prove that the analytical and formal class of such a foliation depend respectively only on the analytical and formal class of its representation of projective holonomy.
We study the recurrence of inhomogeneous Markov chains in the plane, when the environment is horizontally stratified and the heterogeneity of quasi-periodic type.
The Numerical Assembly Technique is extended to investigate arbitrary planar frame structures with the focus on the computation of natural frequencies. This allows us to obtain highly accurate results without resorting to spatial discretization. To this end, we systematically introduce a frame structure as a set of nodes, beams, bearings, springs, and external loads and formulate the corresponding boundary and interface conditions. As the underlying homogeneous solution of the governing equations, we use a novel approach recently presented in the literature. This greatly improves the numerical…
We prove that if for relative equilibrium solutions of a generalisation of quasi-homogeneous $n$-body problems the masses and rotation are given, then the minimum distance between the point masses of such a relative equilibrium has a universal lower bound that is not equal to zero. We furthermore prove that the set of such relative equilibria is compact and prove related results for $n$-body problems in spaces of constant Gaussian curvature.
This note considers fairly general quasi-homogeneous systems of first-order nonlinear ODEs and homogeneous systems of second-order nonlinear ODEs that contain arbitrary functions of several arguments. It presents several exact solutions to these systems in terms of elementary functions.
We consider a topological class of a germ of complex analytic function in two variables which does not belong to its jacobian ideal. Such a function is not quasi homogeneous. Each element f in this class induces a germ of foliation (df = 0). Proceeding similarly to the homogeneous case and the quasi homogeneous case treated by Genzmer and Paul, we describe the local moduli space of the foliations in this class and give analytic normal forms. We prove also the uniqueness of these normal forms.
We give geometric and algorithmic criterions in order to have of a proper Galois closure for a codimension one germ of quasi-homogeneous foliation. We recall this notion recently introduced by B. Malgrange, and describe the Galois envelope of a group of germs of analytic diffeomorphisms. The geometric criterions are obtained from transverse analytic invariants, whereas the algorithmic ones make use of formal normal forms.
We consider the quasi-periodic Schrödinger operator with the non-degenerate Gevrey potential for the Diophantine frequency. We prove that if the coupling number of the potential is large, then the spectrum is homogeneous.
We first construct nonholonomic systems of $n$ homogeneous balls $\mathbf B_1,\dots,\mathbf B_n$ with centers $O_1,...,O_n$ and with the same radius $r$ that are rolling without slipping around a fixed sphere $\mathbf S_0$ with center $O$ and radius $R$. In addition, it is assumed that a dynamically nonsymmetric sphere $\mathbf S$ of radius $R+2r$ and the center that coincides with the center $O$ of the fixed sphere $\mathbf S_0$ rolls without slipping over the moving balls $\mathbf B_1,\dots,\mathbf B_n$. We prove that these systems possess an invariant measure. As the second task, we conside…
