Amenability of Universal 2-Grigorchuk group

We consider the universal Grigorchuk 2-group, i.e., the group such that every Grigorchuk 2-group is a quotient. We show that this group has a nice universal representation in the group of all functions f:{0,1,2}^N --> Aut(T_2), where T_2 is a group of automorphism of the binary tree. Finally, we prove that this universal Grigorchuk 2-group is amenable. The proof is an application of the ``Munchhausen trick'' developed by V. Kaimanovich.

Amenability via random walks

We answer an open question of Grigorchuk and Zuk about amenability using random walks. Our results separate the class of amenable groups from the closure of subexponentially growing groups under the operations of group extension and direct limits; these classes are separated even within the realm of finitely presented groups.

Universal flows of closed subgroups of $S_{\infty}$ and relative extreme amenability

This paper is devoted to the study of universality for a particular continuous action naturally attached to certain pairs of closed subgroups of $S_{\infty}$. It shows that three new concepts, respectively called relative extreme amenability, relative Ramsey property for embeddings, and relative Ramsey property for structures, are relevant in order to understand this property correctly. Self-avoiding walks and amenability

The connective constant $μ(G)$ of an infinite transitive graph $G$ is the exponential growth rate of the number of self-avoiding walks from a given origin. On relative extreme amenability

The purpose of this paper is to study the notion of relative extreme amenability for pairs of topological groups. We give a characterization by a fixed point property on universal spaces. In addition we introduce the concepts of an extremely amenable interpolant as well as maximally relatively extremely amenable pairs and give examples. Amenability, proximality and higher order syndeticity

We show that the universal minimimal proximal flow and the universal minimal strongly proximal flow of a discrete group can be realized as the Stone spaces of translation invariant Boolean algebras of subsets of the group satisfying a higher order notion of syndeticity. We establish algebraic, combinatorial and topological dynamical characterizations of these subsets that we use to obtain new necessary and sufficient conditions for strong amenability and amenability.
