英文摘要:
These lecture notes for the IAS/Park City Graduate Summer School in Geometric Combinatorics (July 2004) provide an overview of root systems, generalized associahedra, and the combinatorics of clusters.
Lectures 1-2 cover classical material: root systems, finite reflection groups, and the Cartan-Killing classification. Lectures 3-4 provide an introduction to cluster algebras from a combinatorial perspective. Lecture 5 is devoted to related topics in enumerative combinatorics.
It is known that a connected simple graph $G$ associates a simple polytope $P_G$ called a graph associahedron in Euclidean space. In this paper we show that the set of facet vectors of $P_G$ forms a root system if and only if $G$ is a cycle graph and that the root system is of type A.
This is a chapter in an upcoming Tamari Festscrift. Permutahedra are a class of convex polytopes arising naturally from the study of finite reflection groups, while generalized associahedra are a class of polytopes indexed by finite reflection groups. We present the intimate links those two classes of polytopes share.
Some enumerative aspects of the fans, called generalized associahedra, introduced by S. Fomin and A. Zelevinsky in their theory of cluster algebras are considered, in relation with a bicomplex and its two spectral sequences. A precise enumerative relation with the lattices of generalized noncrossing partitions is conjectured and some evidence is given.
In this short note we consider generalized associahedra of type D_n. We prove that these simple flag polytopes are not nestohedra for n > 3, but the statement of Gal's conjecture holds for them.
In hep-th/0111053, a complete simplicial fan was associated to an arbitrary finite root system. It was conjectured that this fan is the normal fan of a simple convex polytope (a generalized associahedron of the corresponding type). Here we prove this conjecture by explicitly exhibiting a family of such polytopal realizations.
We prove a conjecture of F. Chapoton relating certain enumerative invariants of (a) the cluster complex associated by S. Fomin and A. Zelevinsky to a finite root system and (b) the lattice of noncrossing partitions associated to the corresponding finite real reflection group.
Stringy canonical forms are a class of integrals that provide $α'$-deformations of the canonical form of any polytopes. For generalized associahedra of finite-type cluster algebra, there exist completely rigid stringy integrals, whose configuration spaces are the so-called binary geometries, and for classical types are associated with (generalized) scattering of particles and strings. In this paper we propose a large class of rigid stringy canonical forms for another class of polytopes, generalized permutohedra, which also include associahedra and cyclohedra as special cases (type $A_n$ and $B…
In this paper, we use subword complexes to provide a uniform approach to finite type cluster complexes and multi-associahedra. We introduce, for any finite Coxeter group and any nonnegative integer k, a spherical subword complex called multi-cluster complex. For k=1, we show that this subword complex is isomorphic to the cluster complex of the given type. We show that multi-cluster complexes of types A and B coincide with known simplicial complexes, namely with the simplicial complexes of multi-triangulations and centrally symmetric multi-triangulations respectively. Furthermore, we show that …
A case-free proof is given that the entries of the $h$-vector of the cluster complex $Δ(Φ)$, associated by S. Fomin and A. Zelevinsky to a finite root system $Φ$, count elements of the lattice $\nc$ of noncrossing partitions of corresponding type by rank. Similar interpretations for the $h$-vector of the positive part of $Δ(Φ)$ are provided. The proof utilizes the appearance of the complex $Δ(Φ)$ in the context of the lattice $\nc$, in recent work of two of the authors, as well as an explicit shelling of $Δ(Φ)$.
We give an explicit subword complex description of the generators of the type cone of the g-vector fan of a finite type cluster algebra with acyclic initial seed. This yields in particular a description of the Newton polytopes of the F-polynomials in terms of subword complexes as conjectured by S. Brodsky and the third author. We then show that the cluster complex is combinatorially isomorphic to the totally positive part of the tropicalization of the cluster variety as conjectured by D. Speyer and L. Williams.
We prove, for an arbitrary finite root system, the periodicity conjecture of Al.B.Zamolodchikov concerning Y-systems, a particular class of functional relations arising in the theory of thermodynamic Bethe ansatz. Algebraically, Y-systems can be viewed as families of rational functions defined by certain birational recurrences formulated in terms of the underlying root system. In the course of proving periodicity, we obtain explicit formulas for all these rational functions, which turn out to always be Laurent polynomials. In a closely related development, we introduce and study a family of si…
Motivated by the theory of cluster algebras, F. Chapoton, S. Fomin and A. Zelevinsky associated to each finite type root system a simple convex polytope called \emph{generalized associahedron}. They provided an explicit realization of this polytope associated with a bipartite orientation of the corresponding Dynkin diagram. In the first part of this paper, using the parametrization of cluster variables by their $g$-vectors explicitly computed by S.-W. Yang and A. Zelevinsky, we generalize the original construction to any orientation. In the second part we show that our construction agrees with…
In this paper we study the role of planarity in generalized scattering amplitudes, through several closely interacting structures in combinatorics, algebraic and tropical geometry. The generalized biadjoint scalar amplitude, introduced recently by Cachazo-Early-Guevara-Mizera (CEGM), is a rational function of homogeneous degree $-(k-1)(n-k-1)$ in $\binom{n}{k}-n$ independent variables; its poles can be constructed directly from the rays of the positive tropical Grassmannian. We introduce for each pair of integers $(k,n)$ with $2\le k\le n-2$ a system of generalized positive roots which arises …
Given a finite Coxeter system $(W,S)$ and a Coxeter element $c$, we construct a simple polytope whose outer normal fan is N. Reading's Cambrian fan $F_c$, settling a conjecture of Reading that this is possible. We call this polytope the $c$-generalized associahedron. Our approach generalizes Loday's realization of the associahedron (a type $A$ $c$-generalized associahedron whose outer normal fan is not the cluster fan but a coarsening of the Coxeter fan arising from the Tamari lattice) to any finite Coxeter group. A crucial role in the construction is played by the $c$-singleton cones, the con…
The aim of the paper is to calculate face numbers of simple generalized permutohedra, and study their f-, h- and gamma-vectors. These polytopes include permutohedra, associahedra, graph-associahedra, simple graphic zonotopes, nestohedra, and other interesting polytopes. We give several explicit formulas for h-vectors and gamma-vectors involving descent statistics. This includes a combinatorial interpretation for gamma-vectors of a large class of generalized permutohedra which are flag simple polytopes, and confirms for them Gal's conjecture on nonnegativity of gamma-vectors. We calculate expli…
Let $(W,S)$ be a finite Coxeter system acting by reflections on an $\mathbb R$-Euclidean space with simple roots $Δ=\{\a_s | s\in S\}$ of the same length and fundamental weights $Δ^*=\{v_s | s\in S\}$. We set $M(e)=\sum_{s\in S}κ_s v_s$, $κ_s>0$, and for $w\in W$ we set $M(w)=w(M(e))$. The permutahedron $Perm(W)$ is the convex hull of the set $\{M(w) | w\in W\}$. Given a Coxeter element $c\in W$, we have defined in a previous work a generalized associahedron $Asso_c(W)$ whose normal fan is the corresponding $c$-Cambrian fan $F_c$ defined by N. Reading. By construction, $Asso_c(W)$ is obtained …
We define Bernstein-Gelfand-Ponomarev reflection functors in the cluster categories of hereditary algebras. They are triangle equivalences which provide a natural quiver realization of the "truncated simple reflections" on the set of almost positive roots $Φ_{\ge -1}$ associated to a finite dimensional semisimple Lie algebra. Combining with the tilting theory in cluster categories developed in [4], we give a unified interpretation via quiver representations for the generalized associahedra associated to the root systems of all Dynkin types (a simply-laced or non-simply-laced). This confirms th…
We give a geometric realization of the polyhedra governed by the structure of associative algebras with co-inner products, or more precisely, governed by directed planar trees. Our explicit realization of these polyhedra, which include the associahedra in a special case, shows in particular that these polyhedra are homeomorphic to balls. We also calculate the number of vertices of the lowest generalized associahedra, giving appropriate generalizations of the Catalan numbers.
We show how the knowledge of the Fourier coefficients of the Cherednik kernel leads to combinatorial formulas for generalized exponents. We recover known formulas for generalized exponents of irreducible representations parameterized by dominant roots, and obtain new formulas for the generalized exponents for irreducible representations parameterized by the dominant elements of the root lattice which are sums of two orthogonal short roots.
We give a quiver representation theoretic interpretation of generalized cluster complexes defined by Fomin and Reading. By using $d-$cluster categories which are defined by Keller as triangulated orbit categories of (bounded) derived categories of representations of valued quivers, we define a $d-$compatibility degree $(-||-)$ on any pair of ``colored'' almost positive real Schur roots which generalizes previous definitions on the non-colored case, and call two such roots compatible provided the $d-$compatibility degree of them is zero. Associated to the root system $Φ$ corresponding to the va…
An important combinatorial result in equivariant cohomology and $K$-theory Schubert calculus is represented by the formulas of Billey and Graham-Willems for the localization of Schubert classes at torus fixed points. These formulas work uniformly in all Lie types, and are based on the concept of a root polynomial. In this paper we define formal root polynomials associated with an arbitrary formal group law (and thus a generalized cohomology theory). We focus on the case of the hyperbolic formal group law (corresponding to elliptic cohomology). We study some of the properties of formal root pol…
The generalized theta graph Θ_{s_1,...,s_k} consists of a pair of endvertices joined by k internally disjoint paths of lengths s_1,...,s_k \ge 1. We prove that the roots of the chromatic polynomial $pi(Θ_{s_1,...,s_k},z) of a k-ary generalized theta graph all lie in the disc |z-1| \le [1 + o(1)] k/\log k, uniformly in the path lengths s_i. Moreover, we prove that Θ_{2,...,2} \simeq K_{2,k} indeed has a chromatic root of modulus [1 + o(1)] k/\log k. Finally, for k \le 8 we prove that the generalized theta graph with a chromatic root that maximizes |z-1| is the one with all path lengths equal to…
There has been significant recent interest in the arithmetic properties of the coefficients of $F(1-q)$ and $\mathscr{F}_t(1-q)$ where $F(q)$ is the Kontsevich-Zagier strange series and $\mathscr{F}_t(q)$ is the strange series associated to a family of torus knots as studied by Bijaoui, Boden, Myers, Osburn, Rushworth, Tronsgard and Zhou. In this paper, we prove prime power congruences for two families of generalized Fishburn numbers, namely, for the coefficients of $(ζ_N - q)^s F((ζ_N - q)^r)$ and $(ζ_N - q)^s \mathscr{F}_t((ζ_N - q)^r)$, where $ζ_N$ is an $N$th root of unity and $r$, $s$ are…
Let G be a simple graph of order n. The domination polynomial of a graph is the generating function of its dominating sets. We study the domination polynomials of generalized friendship graphs. We also consider book graphs formed by joining n copies of the cycle graph of order 4 with a common edge and study the domination polynomials of some generalized book graphs. In particular we examine the domination roots of these families and find the limiting curve for the roots.
The LR-drawing-method is a method of drawing an ordered rooted binary tree based on drawing one root-to-leaf path on a vertical line and attaching recursively obtained drawings of the subtrees on the left and right. In this paper, we study how to generalize this drawing-method to trees of higher arity. We first prove that (with some careful modifications) the proof of existence of a special root-to-leaf path transfers to trees of higher arity. Then we use such paths to obtain generalized LR-drawings of trees of arbitrary arity.
Triangulations of a product of two simplices and, more generally, of root polytopes are closely related to Gelfand-Kapranov-Zelevinsky's theory of discriminants, to tropical geometry, tropical oriented matroids, and to generalized permutohedra. We introduce a new approach to these objects, identifying a triangulation of a root polytope with a certain bijection between lattice points of two generalized permutohedra. In order to study such bijections, we define trianguloids as edge-colored graphs satisfying simple local axioms. We prove that trianguloids are in bijection with triangulations of r…
Let $Φ$ be an irreducible crystallographic root system with Weyl group $W$ and coroot lattice $\check{Q}$, spanning a Euclidean space $V$. Let $m$ be a positive integer and $\aA^m_Φ$ be the arrangement of hyperplanes in $V$ of the form $(α, x) = k$ for $α\in Φ$ and $k = 0, 1,...,m$. It is known that the number $N^+ (Φ, m)$ of bounded dominant regions of $\aA^m_Φ$ is equal to the number of facets of the positive part $Δ^m_+ (Φ)$ of the generalized cluster complex associated to the pair $(Φ, m)$ by S. Fomin and N. Reading. We define a statistic on the set of bounded dominant regions of $\aA^m_Φ$…
