We develop a theory of perverse sheaves on the semi-infinite flag manifold $G((t))/N((t))\cdot T[[t]]$, and show that the subcategory of Iwahori-monodromy perverse sheaves is equivalent to the regular block of the category of representations of the small quantum group at an even root of unity.
We say that a group G acts infinitely transitively on a set X if for every integer m the induced diagonal action of G is transitive on the cartesian mth power of X with the diagonals removed. We describe three classes of affine algebraic varieties such that their automorphism groups act infinitely transitively on their smooth loci. The first class consists of affine cones over flag varieties, the second of non-degenerate affine toric varieties, and the third of iterated suspensions over affine varieties with infinitely transitive automorphism groups of a reinforced type.
We continue the study, begun in [Kouno-Naito-Orr-Sagaki, 2021], of inverse Chevalley formulas for the equivariant $K$-group of semi-infinite flag manifolds. Using the language of alcove paths, we reformulate and extend our combinatorial inverse Chevalley formula to arbitrary weights in all simply-laced types (conjecturally also for $E_8$).
We provide a proof that every Schubert variety of a semi-infinite flag variety is projectively normal. This gives us an interpretation of a Demazure module of a global Weyl module of a current Lie algebra as the (dual) space of the space of global sections of a semi-infinite Schubert variety. Moreover, we give geometric realizations of Feigin-Makedonskyi's generalized Weyl modules, and the $t = \infty$ specialization of non-symmetric Macdonald polynomials.
We give a combinatorial Chevalley formula for an arbitrary weight, in the torus-equivariant K-theory of semi-infinite flag manifolds, which is expressed in terms of the quantum alcove model. As an application, we prove the Chevalley formula for anti-dominant fundamental weights in the (small) torus-equivariant quantum K-theory of the flag manifold G/B; this has been a longstanding conjecture about the multiplicative structure of the mentioned quantum K-theory. Moreover, in type A, we prove that the so-called quantum Grothendieck polynomials indeed represent Schubert classes in the (non-equivar…
The present paper provides a geometric characterization of complete flag varieties for semisimple algebraic groups. Namely, if $X$ is a Fano manifold whose all elementary contractions are $\mathbb P^1$-fibrations then $X$ is isomorphic to the complete flag manifold $G/B$ where $G$ is a semi-simple Lie algebraic group and $B$ is a Borel subgroup of $G$.
In this paper, we develop the theory of flag manifold over a semifield for any Kac-Moody root datum. We show that the flag manifold over a semifield admits a natural action of the monoid over that semifield associated with the Kac-Moody datum and admits a cellular decomposition. This extends the previous work of Lusztig, Postnikov, Rietsch and others on the totally nonnegative flag manifolds (of finite type) and the work of Lusztig, Speyer, Williams on the tropical flag manifolds (of finite type). As a by-product, we prove a conjecture of Lusztig on the duality of totally nonnegative flag mani…
The Semiinfinite Flag Space appeared in the works of B.Feigin and E.Frenkel, and under different disguises was found by V.Drinfeld and G.Lusztig in the early 80-s. Another recent discovery (Beilinson-Drinfeld Grassmannian) turned out to conceal a new incarnation of Semiinfinite Flags. We write down these and other results scattered in folklore. We define the local semiinfinite flag space attached to a semisimple group $G$ as the quotient $G((z))/HN((z))$ (an ind-scheme), where $H$ and $N$ are a Cartan subgroup and the unipotent radical of a Borel subgroup of $G$. The global semiinfinite flag s…
We prove that the group of normalized cohomological invariants of degree 3 modulo the subgroup of semidecomposable invariants of a semisimple split linear algebraic group G is isomorphic to the torsion part of the Chow group of codimension 2 cycles of the respective versal G-flag. In particular, if G is simple, we show that this factor group is isomorphic to the group of indecomposable invariants of G. As an application, we construct nontrivial cohomological classes for indecomposable central simple algebras.
Using Grothendieck's "functor of points" approach to algebraic geometry, we define a new infinite-dimensional algebro-geometric flag space as a $k$-functor (for $k$ a ring) which maps a $k$-algebra $R$ to the set of certain well-ordered chains of submodules of an infinite rank free $R$-module. This generalizes the well known construction of a $k$-functor that is represented by the classical (i.e. finite-dimensional) full flag scheme. We prove that as in the finite-dimensional case, there is an action of a general linear group on our flag space, that the stabilizer of the standard flag is the s…
The direct sum of irreducible level one integrable representations of affine Kac-Moody Lie algebra of (affine) type $ADE$ carries a structure of $P/Q$-graded vertex operator algebra. There exists a filtration on this direct sum studied by Kato and Loktev such that the corresponding graded vector space is a direct sum of global Weyl modules. The associated graded space with respect to the dual filtration is isomorphic to the homogenous coordinate ring of semi-infinite flag variety. We describe the ring structure in terms of vertex operators and endow the homogenous coordinate ring with a struct…
Let G be a semisimple affine algebraic group and P a parabolic subgroup of G. We classify all flag varieties G/P which admit an action of the commutative unipotent group G_a^n with an open orbit.
Let $G$ be a split semisimple linear algebraic group over a field and let $X$ be a generic twisted flag variety of $G$. Extending the Hilbert basis techniques to Laurent polynomials over integers we give an explicit presentation of the Grothendieck ring $K_0(X)$ in terms of generators and relations in the case $G=G^{sc}/μ_2$ is of Dynkin type ${\rm A}$ or ${\rm C}$ (here $G^{sc}$ is the simply-connected cover of $G$); we compute various groups of (indecomposable, semi-decomposable) cohomological invariants of degree 3, hence, generalizing and extending previous results in this direction.
We exhibit basic algebro-geometric results on the formal model of semi-infinite flag varieties and its Schubert varieties over an algebraically closed field $\mathbb K$ of characteristic $\neq 2$ from scratch. We show that the formal model of a semi-infinite flag variety admits a unique nice (ind)scheme structure, its projective coordinate ring has a $\mathbb Z$-model, and it admits a Frobenius splitting compatible with the boundaries and opposite cells in positive characteristic. This establishes the normality of the Schubert varieties of the quasi-map space with a fixed degree (instead of th…
We compute the group of automorphisms of an arbitrary ind-variety of (possibly isotropic) generalized flags. Such an ind-variety is a homogeneous ind-space for one of the ind-groups $SL(\infty)$, $O(\infty)$ or $Sp(\infty)$. We show that the respective automorphism groups are much larger than $SL(\infty)$, $O(\infty)$ or $Sp(\infty)$, and present the answer in terms of Mackey groups. The latter are groups of automorphisms of nondegenerate pairings of (in general infinite-dimensional) vector spaces. An explicit matrix form of the automorphism group of an arbitrary ind-variety of generalized fla…
This paper is concerned with the study of spaces of naturally defined cycles associated to SL(n,R)-flag domains. These are compact complex submanifolds in open orbits of real semisimple Lie groups in flag domains of their complexification. It is known that there are optimal Schubert varieties which intersect the cycles transversally in finitely many points and in particular determine them in homology. Here we give a precise description of these Schubert varieties in terms of certain subsets of the Weyl group and compute their total number. Furthermore, we give an explicit description of the po…
The purpose of the present paper is twofold: to introduce the notion of a generalized flag in an infinite dimensional vector space $V$ (extending the notion of a flag of subspaces in a vector space), and to give a geometric realization of homogeneous spaces of the ind--groups $SL(\infty)$, $SO(\infty)$ and $Sp(\infty)$ in terms of generalized flags. Generalized flags in $V$ are chains of subspaces which in general cannot be enumerated by integers. Given a basis $E$ of $V$, we define a notion of $E$--commensurability for generalized flags, and prove that the set $\cFl (\cF, E)$ of generalized f…
We study the equivariant K-group of the affine flag manifold with respect to the Borel group action. We prove that the structure sheaf of the (infinite-dimensional) Schubert variety in the K-group is represented by a unique polynomial, which we call the affine Grothendieck polynomial.
We describe isotropic orbits for the restricted action of a subgroup of a Lie group acting on a symplectic manifold by Hamiltonian symplectomorphisms and admitting an Ad*-equivariant moment map. We obtain examples of Lagrangian orbits of complex flag manifolds, of cotangent bundles of orthogonal Lie groups, and of products of flags. We introduce the notion of infinitesimally tight and study the intersection theory of such Lagrangian orbits, giving many examples.
Let g be a semi-simple Lie algebra. In this paper we study the spaces of based quasi-maps from the projective line P^1 to the flag variety of g (it is well-known that their singularities are supposed to model the singularities of the so called semi-infinite Schubert varieties which are hard to define directly). In the first part of the paper we show that the above spaces are normal and in the case when g is simply laced they are also Gorenstein and have rational singularities. In the second part of the paper we compute the character of the ring of functions on the above spaces; in view of the …
For a simple algebraic group $G$ we study the space $Q$ of Quasimaps from the projective line $C$ to the flag variety of $G$. We prove that the global Intersection Cohomology of $Q$ carries a natural pure Tate Hodge structure, and compute its generating function. We define an action of the Langlands dual Lie algebra $g^L$ on this cohomology. We present a new geometric construction of the universal enveloping algebra $U(n^L_+)$ of the nilpotent subalgebra of $g^L$. It is realized in the Ext-groups of certain perverse sheaves on Quasimaps' spaces, and it is equipped with a canonical basis number…
For a connected semisimple algebraic group $G$, we consider some special infinite series of tensor products of simple $G$-modules whose $G$-fixed point spaces are at most one-dimensional. We prove that their existence is closely related to the existence of open $G$-orbits in multiple flag varieties and address the problem of classifying such series.
Let $G$ be a semisimple algebraic group whose decomposition into a product of simple components does not contain simple groups of type $A$, and $P\subseteq G$ be a parabolic subgroup. Extending the results of Popov [7], we enumerate all triples $(G, P, n)$ such that (a) there exists an open $G$-orbit on the multiple flag variety $G/P\times G/P\times\ldots\times G/P$ ($n$ factors), (b) the number of $G$-orbits on the multiple flag variety is finite.
Let G be a split semi-simple p-adic group and let H be its Iwahori-Hecke algebra with coefficients in the algebraic closure k of the finite field with p elements. Let F be the affine flag variety over k associated with G. We show, in the simply connected simple case, that a torus-equivariant K'-theory of F (with coefficients in k) admits an H-action by Demazure operators and that this provides a model for the regular representation of H.
Let G be a semisimple algebraic group over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic. In this note, we show that an irreducible closed subvariety of the flag variety of G is compatibly split by the unique canonical Frobenius splitting if and only if it is a Richardson variety, i.e. an intersection of a Schubert and an opposite Schubert variety.
We study the null-cone of a semi-simple algebraic group acting on a number of copies of its Lie algebra via the diagonal adjoint action. We show that the null cone has rational singularities in the case of SL3. We observe by example that the null-cone is not normal in general and that the normalization of the null-cone does not have rational singularities in general. This is achieved by computing cohomology of certain vector bundles on flag varieties.
In this survey, we gather together various results on the action of a real form of a complex semisimple Lie group on its flag manifolds. We start with the finiteness theorem of J.Wolf implying that at least one of the orbits is open. We give a new proof of the converse statement for real forms of inner type, essentially due to F.M.Malyshev. Namely, if a real semisimple Lie group of inner type has an open orbit on an algebraic homogeneous space of the complexified group then the homogeneous space is a flag manifold. To prove this, we recall, partly with proofs, some results of A.L.Onishchik on …
Let L be a preprojective algebra of Dynkin type, and let G be the corresponding complex semisimple simply connected algebraic group. We study rigid modules in subcategories sub(Q) for Q an injective L-module, and we introduce a mutation operation between complete rigid modules in sub(Q). This yields cluster algebra structures on the coordinate rings of the partial flag varieties attached to G.
A real semisimple Lie group G_0 embedded in its complexification G has only finitely many orbits in any G-fag manifold Z = G/Q. The complex geometry of its open orbits D (flag domains) is studied from the point of view of compact complex submanifolds C (cycles) which arise as orbits of certain distinguished subgroups. Normal bundles E of the cycles are analyzed in some detail. It is shown that E is trivial if and only if D is holomorphically convex, in fact a product of C and a Hermitian symmetric space, and otherwise D is pseudoconcave.
The universal deformation of the complex disk is studied from the viewpoint of infinite-dimensional geometry. The structure of a subsymmetric space on the universal deformation is described. The foliation of the universal deformation by subsymmetry mirrors is shown to determine a real polarization. The subject of the paper maybe of interest to specialists in algebraic geometry and representation theory as well as to researchers dealing with mathematical problems of modern quantum field theory. Let $\Fl_λ$ be a generalized flag variety of a simple Lie group $G$ embedded into the projectivization of an irreducible $G$-module $V_λ$. We define a flat degeneration $\Fl_λ^a$, which is a ${\mathbb G}^M_a$ variety. Moreover, there exists a larger group $G^a$ acting on $\Fl_λ^a$, which is a degeneration of the group $G$. The group $G^a$ contains ${\mathbb G}^M_a$ as a normal subgroup. If $G$ is of type $A$, then the degenerate flag varieties can be embedded into the product of Grassmanians and thus to the product of projective spaces. The defining ideal of $\Fl^a_λ$ is generated by the set o…
Let $G$ be a semisimple, simply connected, algebraic group over an algebraically closed field $k$ with Lie algebra $\frak g$. We study the spaces of parahoric subalgebras of a given type containing a fixed nil-elliptic element of $\frak g\otimes k((π))$, i.e. fixed point varieties on affine flag manifolds. We define a natural class of $k^*$-actions on affine flag manifolds, generalizing actions introduced by Lusztig and Smelt. We formulate a condition on a pair $(N,f)$ consisting of $N\in\frak{g}\otimes k((π))$ and a $k^*$-action $f$ of the specified type which guarantees that $f$ induces an a…
The degenerate Lie group is a semidirect product of the Borel subgroup with the normal abelian unipotent subgroup. We introduce a class of the highest weight representations of the degenerate group of type A, generalizing the PBW-graded representations of the classical group. Following the classical construction of the flag varieties, we consider the closures of the orbits of the abelian unipotent subgroup in the projectivizations of the representations. We show that the degenerate flag varieties $\Fl^a_n$ and their desingularizations $R_n$ can be obtained via this construction. We prove that …
In this paper, given a semisimple algebraic group $\bf G$ of rank 2, we construct a special semiorthogonal decomposition in the derived category of coherent sheaves on the flag variety ${\bf G}/{\bf B}$. These decompositions are defined over the localization ${\mathbb Z}_{\rm S}$, where $\rm S$ is the set of bad primes for $\bf G$, while their block structure is compatible with the Bruhat order on Schubert varieties. The non-standard $t$-structures on ${\rm D}^b({\bf G}/{\bf B})$ defined by these decompositions are self-dual with respect to the duality ${\mathcal RHom}_{{\bf G}/{\bf B}}(-,ω_{{…
Flag domains are open orbits of real semisimple Lie groups in flag manifolds of their complexifications. Certain group theoretically defined compact complex submanifolds, which are regarded as cycles, are of basic importance for their complex geometric and representation theoretic properties. It is known that there are optimal Schubert varieties which intersect the cycles transversally in finitely many points and in particular determine them in homology. Here we give a precise description of these Schubert varieties in terms of certain subsets of the Weyl group and compute their total number f…
We introduce a mutation algorithm for puzzles that is a three-direction analogue of the classical jeu de taquin algorithm for semistandard tableaux. We apply this algorithm to prove our conjectured puzzle formula for the equivariant Schubert structure constants of two-step flag varieties. This formula gives an expression for the structure constants that is positive in the sense of Graham. Thanks to the equivariant version of the `quantum equals classical' result, our formula specializes to a Littlewood-Richardson rule for the equivariant quantum cohomology of Grassmannians.
The goal of this paper is twofold. First, we write down the semi-infinite Plücker relations, describing the Drinfeld-Plücker embedding of the (formal version of) semi-infinite flag varieties in type A. Second, we study the homogeneous coordinate ring, i.e. the quotient by the ideal generated by the semi-infinite Plücker relations. We establish the isomorphism with the algebra of dual global Weyl modules and derive a new character formula.
We show that the set of totally positive unipotent lower-triangular Toeplitz matrices in $GL_n$ form a real semi-algebraic cell of dimension $n-1$. Furthermore we prove a natural cell decomposition for its closure. The proof uses properties of the quantum cohomology rings of the partial flag varieties of $GL_n(\C)$ relying in particular on the positivity of the structure constants, which are enumerative Gromov--Witten invariants. We also give a characterization of total positivity for Toeplitz matrices in terms of the (quantum) Schubert classes. This work builds on some results of Dale Peterso…
Let G be the group of L-rational points of a connected split reductive group over a finite extension L of Q_p. We show that formal models of the algebraic flag variety X of G are D-affine for certain sheaves of arithmetic differential operators. We then introduce the category of coadmissible G-equivariant arithmetic D-modules on the system of formal models of X and prove that it is anti-equivalent to the category of admissible locally L-analytic G-representations with trivial infinitesimal character. We compute the equivariant arithmetic D-modules of certain classes of representations.
