The existing constructions of derived Lie and sh-Lie brackets involve multilinear maps that are used to define higher order differential operators. In this paper, we prove the equivalence of three different definitions of higher order operators. We then introduce a unifying theme for building derived brackets and show that two prevalent derived Lie bracket constructions are equivalent. Two basic methods of constructing derived strict sh-Lie brackets are also shown to be essentially the same. So far, each of these derived brackets is defined on an abelian subalgebra of a Lie algebra. We describe, as an alternative, a cohomological construction of derived sh-Lie brackets. Namely, we prove that a differential algebra with a graded homotopy commutative and associative product and an odd, square-zero operator (that commutes with the differential) gives rise to an sh-Lie structure on the cohomology via derived brackets. The method is in particular applicable to differential vertex operator algebras.
We construct a differential and a Lie bracket on the space\linebreak $\{\Hom (A^{\otimes k}, A^{\otimes l})\},_{k,l\ge 0}$ for any associative algebra $A$. The restriction of this bracket to the space $\{\Hom (A^{\otimes k}, A)\},_{k\ge 0}$ is exactly the Gerstenhaber bracket. We discuss some formality conjecture related with this construction. We also discuss some applications to deformation theory.
We construct an analogue of the Livernet--Loday operad for two compatible brackets. The Livernet--Loday operad can be used to define $\star$-products and deformation quantization for Poisson structures. We make use of our operad in the same way, introducing a definition of (operadic) deformation quantization of compatible Poisson structures.
In this paper, we use the theory of deformation quantization to understand Connes' and Moscovici's results \cite{cm:deformation}. We use Fedosov's method of deformation quantization of symplectic manifolds to reconstruct Zagier's deformation \cite{z:deformation} of modular forms, and relate this deformation to the Weyl-Moyal product. We also show that the projective structure introduced by Connes and Moscovici is equivalent to the existence of certain geometric data in the case of foliation groupoids. Using the methods developed by the second author \cite{t1:def-gpd}, we reconstruct a universa…
We consider Poisson superalgebras with constant nondegenerate bracket realized on the smooth Grassmann-valued functions with compact supports in R^{2n}. The deformations with even and odd deformation parameters of these superalgebras are presented for n>1.
We express the difference between Poisson bracket and deformed bracket for Kontsevich deformation quantization on any Poisson manifold by means of second derivative of the formality quasi-isomorphism. The counterpart on star products of the action of formal diffeomorphisms on Poisson formal bivector fields is also investigated.
We derive a formula expanding the bracket with respect to a natural deformation parameter. The expansion is in terms of a two-variable polynomial algebra of diagram resolutions generated by basic operations involving the Goldman bracket. A functorial characterization of this algebra is given. Differentiability properties of the star product underlying the Kauffman bracket are discussed.
The aim of this paper is to study some brackets defined on $(τ,σ)$-derivations satisfying quasi-Lie identities. Moreover, we provide examples of $(p,q)$-deformations of Witt and Virasoro algebras as well as $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$ algebra. These constructions generalize the results obtained by Hartwig, Larsson and Silvestrov on $σ$-derivations, arising in connection with discretizations and deformations of algebras of vector fields.
A.A. Kirillov introduced the family algebras in 2000. In this paper we study the noncommutative Poisson bracket P on the classical family algebra. We show that P is the first-order deformation from the classical family algebra to the quantum family algebra. We will prove that the noncommutative Poisson bracket is in fact a Hochschild 2-coboundary therefore the deformation is infinitesimally trivial. In the last part of this paper we also talk about Mackey's analogue and the quantization problem of the family algebras.
We show that for every vector bundle E over any given symplectic manifold M there exists an explicitly given super-Poisson bracket on the space of sections of the dual Grassmann bundle associated to E built out of symplectic structure of M, a fibre metric on E, and a connection in E compatible with the given fibre metric. Moreover, we construct a deformation quantization for this space of sections by means of a Fedosov type procedure.
We will introduce the notion of higher derived bracket construction in the category of operads and prove that the higher derived bracket construction of Lie operad is equivalent to the cobar construction of Leibniz operad. The theorem is proved by computing Schroder number.
An arbitrary Leibniz algebra can be embedded in a differential graded Lie algebra via the derived bracket construction. Such an embedding is called a derived bracket representation. We will construct the universal version of the derived bracket representation, prove that the principal part of the target dg Lie algebra defines a subcomplex of Leibniz (co)homology complex and that the existence of the subcomplex is a reflection of the anti-cyclicity of the Leibniz operad.
Given a Lie algebra, there uniquely exists a Poisson algebra which is called a Lie-Poisson algebra over the Lie algebra. We will prove that given a Loday/Leibniz algebra there exists uniquely a noncommutative Poisson algebra over the Loday algebra. The noncommutative Poisson algebras are called the Loday-Poisson algebras. In the super/graded cases, the Loday-Poisson bracket is regarded as a noncommutative version of classical (linear) Schouten-Nijenhuis bracket. It will be shown that the Loday-Poisson algebras form a special subclass of Aguiar's dual-prePoisson algebras. We also study a proble…
As a generalization of the linear Poisson bracket on the dual space of a Lie algebra, we introduce certain non-linear Poisson brackets which are ``cocycle perturbations'' of the linear Poisson bracket. We show that these special Poisson brackets are equivalent to Poisson brackets of central extension type, which resemble the central extensions of an ordinary Lie bracket via Lie algebra cocycles. We are able to formulate (strict) deformation quantizations of these Poisson brackets by means of twisted group C*-algebras. We also indicate that these deformation quantizations can be used to constru…
These notes, based on the paper "Formal Solution of the Master Equation via HPT and Deformation Theory" by Huebschmann and Stasheff, were prepared for a series of talks at Illinois State University with the intention of applying Homological Perturbation Theory to the derived bracket constructions of Kosmann-Schwarzbach and T. Voronov, and eventually writing Part II of the paper "Higher Derived Brackets and Deformation Theory I" by the present authors.
We develop a general framework for the construction of various derived brackets. We show that suitably deforming the differential of a graded Leibniz algebra extends the derived bracket construction and leads to the notion of strong homotopy (sh) Leibniz algebra. We discuss the connections among homotopy algebra theory, deformation theory and derived brackets. We prove that the derived bracket construction induces a map from suitably defined deformation theory equivalence classes to the isomorphism classes of sh Leibniz algebras.
We show that if a generator of a differential Gerstenhaber algebra satisfies certain Cartan-type identities, then the corresponding Lie bracket is formal. Geometric examples include the shifted de Rham complex of a Poisson manifold and the subcomplex of differential forms on a symplectic manifold vanishing on a Lagrangian submanifold, endowed with the Koszul bracket. As a corollary we generalize a recent result by Hitchin on deformations of holomorphic Poisson manifolds.
On every split supermanifold equipped with the Rothstein even super-Poisson bracket we construct a deformation quantization by means of a Fedosov-type procedure. In other words, the supercommutative algebra of all smooth sections of the dual Grassmann algebra bundle of an arbitrarily given vector bundle E (equipped with a fibre metric) over a symplectic manifold M will be deformed by a series of bidifferential operators having first order supercommutator proportional to the Rothstein superbracket. Moreover, we discuss two constructions related to the above result, namely the quantized BRST-coh…
Let $A$ be a Koszul (or more generally, $N$-Koszul) Calabi-Yau algebra. Inspired by the works of Kontsevich, Ginzburg and Van den Bergh, we show that there is a derived non-commutative Poisson structure on $A$, which induces a graded Lie algebra structure on the cyclic homology of $A$; moreover, we show that the Hochschild homology of $A$ is a Lie module over the cyclic homology and the Connes long exact sequence is in fact a sequence of Lie modules. Finally, we show that the Leibniz-Loday bracket associated to the derived non-commutative Poisson structure on $A$ is naturally mapped to the Ger…
We introduce a new type of algebra, which is called a Lie-Leibniz algebra. This concept is an abstraction of derived bracket construction. It will be proved that the operad of Lie-Leibniz algebras is Koszul. The strong homotopy version of derived bracket Leibniz algebras will be discussed. We will get some new results with respect to sh Lie and sh Leibniz algebras.
In this work we compute a versal deformation of the three dimensional nilpotent Leibniz algebra over $\mathbb{C}$, defined by the nontrivial brackets $[e_1,e_3]=e_2$ and $[e_3,e_3]=e_1$.
We present a method to construct explicitly L-infinity algebras governing simultaneous deformations of various kinds of algebraic structures and of their morphisms. It is an alternative to the heavy use of the operad machinery of the existing approaches. Our method relies on Voronov's derived bracket construction.
In this paper we prove formality of the exterior algebra on V+V* endowed with the big bracket considered as a graded Poisson algebra. We also discuss connection of this result to bialgebra deformations of the symmetric algebra of V considered as bialgebra.
We recover some recent results by Dotsenko, Shadrin and Vallette on the Deligne groupoid of a pre-Lie algebra, showing that they follow naturally by a pre-Lie variant of the PBW Theorem. As an application, we show that Kapranov's $L_\infty$ algebra structure on the Dolbeault complex of a Kähler manifold is homotopy abelian and independent on the choice of Kähler metric up to an $L_\infty$ isomorphism, by making the trivializing homotopy and the $L_\infty$ isomorphism explicit.
We give a quick method of constructing strong homotopy associative algebra, namely, the higher derived product construction. This method is associative analogue of classical higher derived bracket construction in the category of Loday algebras. We introduce a new type of algebra "Loday pair" which is noncommutative analogue of classical Leibniz pair. We study strong homotopy Loday pairs and the higher derived brackets on the Loday pairs.
We introduce a general theory of twisting algebraic structures based on actions of a bialgebra. These twists are closely related to algebraic deformations and also to the theory of quasi-triangular bialgebras. In particular, a deformation produced from a universal deformation formula (UDF) is a special case of a twist. The most familiar example of a deformation produced from a UDF is perhaps the "Moyal product" which (locally) is the canonical quantization of the algebra of functions on a symplectic manifold in the direction of the Poisson bracket. In this case, the derivations comprising the …
A simple iterative procedure is suggested for the deformation quantization of (irregular) Poisson brackets associated to the classical Yang-Baxter equation. The construction is shown to admit a pure algebraic reformulation giving the Universal Deformation Formula (UDF) for any triangular Lie bialgebra. A simple proof of classification theorem for inequivalent UDF's is given. As an example the explicit quantization formula is presented for the quasi-homogeneous Poisson brackets on two-plane.
The problem of the consistent definition of gauge theories living on the non-commutative (NC) spaces with a non-constant NC parameter $Θ(x)$ is discussed. Working in the L$_\infty$ formalism we specify the undeformed theory, $3$d abelian Chern-Simons, by setting the initial $\ell_1$ brackets. The deformation is introduced by assigning the star commutator to the $\ell_2$ bracket. For this initial set up we construct the corresponding L$_\infty$ structure which defines both the NC deformation of the abelian gauge transformations and the field equations covariant under these transformations. To c…
We will extend the classical derived bracket construction to any algebra over a binary quadratic operad. We will show that the derived product construction is a functor given by the Manin white product with the operad of permutation algebras. As an application, we will show that the operad of prePoisson algebras is isomorphic to Manin black product of the Poisson operad with the preLie operad. We will show that differential operators and Rota-Baxter operators are, in a sense, Koszul dual to each other.
The quantization problem for the trace-bracket algebra, derived from double Poisson brackets, is discussed. We obtain a generalization of the boundary YBE (or so-called ABCD-algebra) for the quantization of quadratic trace-brackets. A dynamical deformation is proposed on the lines of Gervais-Neveu-Felder dynamical quantum algebras.
We study $\mathbb Z_2$-graded Poisson structures defined on $\mathbb Z_2$-graded commutative polynomial algebras. In small dimensional cases, we exhibit classifications of such Poisson structures, obtain the associated Poisson $\mathbb Z_2$-graded cohomology and in some cases, deformations of these Poisson brackets and $P_\infty$-algebra structures. We highlight differences and analogies between this $\mathbb Z_2$-graded context and the non graded context, by studying for example the links between Poisson cohomology and singularities.
Deformation quantization is a formal deformation of the algebra of smooth functions on some manifold. In the classical setting, the Poisson bracket serves as an initial conditions, while the associativity allows to proceed to higher orders. Some applications to string theory require deformation in the direction of a quasi-Poisson bracket (that does not satisfy the Jacobi identity). This initial condition is incompatible with associativity, it is quite unclear which restrictions can be imposed on the deformation. We show that for any quasi-Poisson bracket the deformation quantization exists and…
This note elaborates on Th. Voronov's construction [math/0304038,math/0412202] of $L_\infty$-structures via higher derived brackets with a Maurer-Cartan element. It is shown that gauge equivalent Maurer-Cartan elements induce $L_\infty$-isomorphic structures. Applications in symplectic, Poisson and Dirac geometry are discussed.
We describe $L_\infty$-algebras governing homotopy relative Rota-Baxter Lie algebras and triangular $L_\infty$-bialgebras, and establish a map between them. Our formulas are based on a functorial approach to Voronov's higher derived brackets construction which is of independent interest.
We introduce and study a construction of higher derived brackets generated by a (not necessarily inner) derivation of a Lie superalgebra. Higher derived brackets generated by an element of a Lie superalgebra were introduced in our earlier work. Examples of higher derived brackets naturally appear in geometry and mathematical physics. From a totally different viewpoint, we show that higher derived brackets arise when one wants to turn the inclusion map of a subalgebra of a differential Lie superalgebra, with a given complementary subalgebra, into a fibration. (For a non-Abelian complementary su…
Phase space is a framework ideally suited for quantizing superintegrable systems through the use of deformation methods, as illustrated here by applications to de Sitter and chiral particles. Within this framework, Nambu brackets elegantly incorporate the additional quantum invariants of such models. New results are presented for the non-Abelian quantization of these brackets.
In this paper, we use the unitary representation theory of $SL_2(\mathbb R)$ to understand the Rankin-Cohen brackets for modular forms. Then we use this interpretation to study the corresponding deformation problems that Paula Cohen, Yuri Manin and Don Zagier initiated. Two uniqueness results are established.
We give explicit formulas for the generators of $q$-deformed W-algebras associated to Lie algebras $D_n, E_6$ and $G_2$, and compute the Poisson brackets between the generators.
We introduce the notion of \emph{almost commutative Q-algebras} and demonstrate how the derived bracket formalism of Kosmann-Schwarzbach generalises to this setting. In particular, we construct `almost commutative Lie algebroids' following Va\uıntrob's Q-manifold understanding of classical Lie algebroids. We show that the basic tenets of the theory of Lie algebroids carry over verbatim to the almost commutative world.
We settle in this paper a question left open in our paper ``Modular Hecke algebras and their Hopf symmetry'', by showing how to extend the Rankin-Cohen brackets from modular forms to modular Hecke algebras. More generally, our procedure yields such brackets on any associative algebra endowed with an action of the Hopf algebra of transverse geometry in codimension one, such that the derivation corresponding to the Schwarzian derivative is inner. Moreover, we show in full generality that these Rankin-Cohen brackets give rise to associative deformations.
We give a construction of homotopy algebras based on ``higher derived brackets''. More precisely, the data include a Lie superalgebra with a projector on an Abelian subalgebra satisfying a certain axiom, and an odd element $Δ$. Given this, we introduce an infinite sequence of higher brackets on the image of the projector, and explicitly calculate their Jacobiators in terms of $Δ^2$. This allows to control higher Jacobi identities in terms of the ``order'' of $Δ^2$. Examples include Stasheff's strongly homotopy Lie algebras and variants of homotopy Batalin--Vilkovisky algebras. There is a gener…
We compute the second Hochschild cohomology space $HH^2(\mathcal{H}_1)$ of Connes-Moscovici's Hopf algebra $\mathcal{H}_1$, giving the infinitesimal deformations (up to equivalence) of the associative structure. $HH^2(\mathcal{H}_1)$ is shown to be one dimensional, and thus Connes-Moscovici's formal deformation of $\mathcal{H}_1$ using Rankin-Cohen brackets is unique up to equivalence.
In these notes, we introduce formal hom-associative deformations of the quantum planes and the universal enveloping algebras of the two-dimensional non-abelian Lie algebras. We then show that these deformations induce formal hom-Lie deformations of the corresponding Lie algebras constructed by using the commutator as bracket.
We consider two different constructions of higher brackets. First, based on a Grassmann-odd, nilpotent Δoperator, we define a non-commutative generalization of the higher Koszul brackets, which are used in a generalized Batalin-Vilkovisky algebra, and we show that they form a homotopy Lie algebra. Secondly, we investigate higher, so-called derived brackets built from symmetrized, nested Lie brackets with a fixed nilpotent Lie algebra element Q. We find the most general Jacobi-like identity that such a hierarchy satisfies. The numerical coefficients in front of each term in these generalized Ja…
We study general properties of Hodge-type decompositions of cyclic and Hochschild homology of universal enveloping algebras of (DG) Lie algebras. Our construction generalizes the operadic construction of cyclic homology of Lie algebras due to Getzler and Kapranov. We give a topological interpretation of such Lie Hodge decompositions in terms of $S^1$-equivariant homology of the free loop space of a simply connected topological space. We prove that the canonical derived Poisson structure on a universal enveloping algebra arising from a cyclic pairing on the Koszul dual coalgebra preserves the H…
We develop the deformations theory of a Dirac--Jacobi structure within a fixed Courant--Jacobi algebroid. Using the description of split Courant--Jacobi algebroids as degree $2$ contact $\mathbb{N} Q$ manifolds and Voronov's higher derived brackets, each Dirac--Jacobi structure is associated with a cubic $L_\infty$ algebra for any choice of a complementary almost Dirac--Jacobi structure. This $L_\infty$ algebra governs the deformations of the Dirac--Jacobi structure: there is a one-to-one correspondence between the MC elements of this $L_\infty$ algebra and the small deformations of the Dirac-…
Let M be a graded Lie algebra, together with graded Lie subalgebras L and A such that as a graded space M is the direct sum of L and A, and A is abelian. Let D be a degree one derivation of M squaring to zero and sending L into itself, then Voronov's construction of higher derived brackets associates to D a L-infinity structure on A[-1]. It is known, and it follows from the results of this paper, that the resulting L-infinity algebra is a weak model for the homotopy fiber of the inclusion of differential graded Lie algebras i : (L,D,[, ]) -> (M,D,[, ]). We prove this fact using homotopical tra…
We examine PBW deformations of finite group extensions of skew polynomial rings, in particular the quantum Drinfeld orbifold algebras defined by the first author. We give a homological interpretation, in terms of Gerstenhaber brackets, of the necessary and sufficient conditions on parameter functions to define a quantum Drinfeld orbifold algebra, thus clarifying the conditions. In case the acting group is trivial, we determine conditions under which such a PBW deformation is a generalized enveloping algebra of a color Lie algebra; our PBW deformations include these algebras as a special case.
Using the theory of extensions of L-infinity algebras, we construct rational homotopy models for classifying spaces of fibrations, giving answers in terms of classical homological functors, namely the Chevalley-Eilenberg and Harrison cohomology. We also investigate the algebraic structure of the Chevalley-Eilenberg complexes of L-infinity algebras and show that they possess, along with the Gerstenhaber bracket, an L-infinity structure that is homotopy abelian.
In this paper we describe a multiparameter deformation of the function algebra of a semisimple coadjoint orbit. In the first section we use the representation of the Lie algebra on a generalized Verma module to quantize the Kirillov bracket on the family of semisimple coadjoint orbits of a given orbit type. In the second section we extend this construction to define a deformation in the category of representations of the quantized enveloping algebra. In an earlier paper we used cohomological methods to prove the existence of a two parameter family quantizing a compatible pair of Poisson bracke…
Beginning with a skew-symmetric matrix, we define a certain Poisson--Lie group. Its Poisson bracket can be viewed as a cocycle perturbation of the linear (or "Lie-Poisson") Poisson bracket. By analyzing this Poisson structure, we gather enough information to construct a C*-algebraic locally compact quantum group, via the "cocycle bicrossed product construction" method. The quantum group thus obtained is shown to be a deformation quantization of the Poisson-Lie group, in the sense of Rieffel.
Poisson brackets (P.b) are the natural initial terms for the deformation quantization of commutative algebras. There is an open problem whether any Poisson bracket on the polynomial algebra of $n$ variables can be quantized. It is known (Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt theorem) that any linear P.b. for all $n$ can be quantized. On the other hand, it is easy to show that in case $n=2$ any P.b. is quantizable as well. Quadratic P.b. appear as the unitial terms for the quantization of polynomial algebras as quadratic algebras. The problem of the quantization of quadratic P.b. is also open. In the paper we…
In this paper we study a family of algebraic deformations of regular coadjoint orbits of compact semisimple Lie groups with the Kirillov Poisson bracket. The deformations are restrictions of deformations on the dual of the Lie algebra. We prove that there are non isomorphic deformations in the family. The star products are not differential, unlike the star products considered in other approaches. We make a comparison with the differential star product canonically defined by Kontsevich's map.
We describe the basic properties of two n-ary algebras, the Generalized Lie Algebras (GLAs) and, particularly, the Filippov (or n-Lie) algebras (FAs), and comment on their n-ary Poisson counterparts, the Generalized Poisson (GP) and Nambu-Poisson (N-P) structures. We describe the Filippov algebra cohomology relevant for the central extensions and infinitesimal deformations of FAs. It is seen that semisimple FAs do not admit central extensions and, moreover, that they are rigid. This extends the familiar Whitehead's lemma to all $n\geq 2$ FAs, n=2 being the standard Lie algebra case. When the n…
The deformation quantization by Kontsevich [arXiv:q-alg/9709040] is a way to construct an associative noncommutative star-product $\star=\times+\hbar \{\ ,\ \}_{P}+\bar{o}(\hbar)$ in the algebra of formal power series in $\hbar$ on a given finite-dimensional affine Poisson manifold: here $\times$ is the usual multiplication, $\{\ ,\ \}_{P}\neq0$ is the Poisson bracket, and $\hbar$ is the deformation parameter. The product $\star$ is assembled at all powers $\hbar^{k\geq0}$ via summation over a certain set of weighted graphs with $k+2$ vertices; for each $k>0$, every such graph connects the two…
