We express the difference between Poisson bracket and deformed bracket for Kontsevich deformation quantization on any Poisson manifold by means of second derivative of the formality quasi-isomorphism. The counterpart on star products of the action of formal diffeomorphisms on Poisson formal bivector fields is also investigated.
In this note the notion of Poisson brackets in Kontsevich's "Lie World" is developed. These brackets can be thought of as "universally" defined classical Poisson structures, namely formal expressions only involving the structure maps of a quadratic Lie algebra. We prove a uniqueness statement about these Poisson brackets with a given moment map. As an application we get formulae for the linearization of the quasi-Poisson structure of the moduli space of flat connections on a punctured sphere, and thereby identify their symplectic leaves with the reduction of coadjoint orbits. Equivalently, we …
Poisson brackets admit infinitesimal symmetries which are encoded using oriented graphs; this construction is due to Kontsevich (1996). We formulate several open problems about combinatorial and topological properties of the graphs involved, about integrability and analytic properties of such symmetry flows (in particular, for known classes of Poisson brackets), and about cohomological, differential geometric, and quantum aspects of the theory. Keywords: Poisson bracket, Jacobi identity, infinitesimal symmetry, affine manifold, Poisson cohomology, graph complex.
The standard and anti-standard ordered operators acting on two-dimensional q-deformed phase space are shown to satisfy algebras which can be called W_\infty. q-star products and q-Moyal brackets corresponding to these algebras are constructed. Some applications like defining q-classical mechanics and q-path integrals are discussed.
The deformation quantization by Kontsevich [arXiv:q-alg/9709040] is a way to construct an associative noncommutative star-product $\star=\times+\hbar \{\ ,\ \}_{P}+\bar{o}(\hbar)$ in the algebra of formal power series in $\hbar$ on a given finite-dimensional affine Poisson manifold: here $\times$ is the usual multiplication, $\{\ ,\ \}_{P}\neq0$ is the Poisson bracket, and $\hbar$ is the deformation parameter. The product $\star$ is assembled at all powers $\hbar^{k\geq0}$ via summation over a certain set of weighted graphs with $k+2$ vertices; for each $k>0$, every such graph connects the two…
On a flat manifold, M. Kontsevich's formality quasi-isomorphism is compatible with cup-products on tangent cohomology spaces, in the sense that its derivative at any formal Poisson 2-tensor induces an isomorphism of graded commutative algebras from Poisson cohomology space to Hochschild cohomology space relative to the associated deformed multiplication. We give here a detailed proof of this result, with signs and orientations precised.
Let $A$ be a Koszul (or more generally, $N$-Koszul) Calabi-Yau algebra. Inspired by the works of Kontsevich, Ginzburg and Van den Bergh, we show that there is a derived non-commutative Poisson structure on $A$, which induces a graded Lie algebra structure on the cyclic homology of $A$; moreover, we show that the Hochschild homology of $A$ is a Lie module over the cyclic homology and the Connes long exact sequence is in fact a sequence of Lie modules. Finally, we show that the Leibniz-Loday bracket associated to the derived non-commutative Poisson structure on $A$ is naturally mapped to the Ger…
In this paper we employ the construction of Dirac bracket for the remaining current of $sl(2)_q$ deformed Kac-Moody algebra when constraints similar to those connecting the $sl(2)$-WZW model and the Liouville theory are imposed and show that it satisfy the q-Virasoro algebra proposed by Frenkel and Reshetikhin. The crucial assumption considered in our calculation is the existence of a classical Poisson bracket algebra induced, in a consistent manner by the correspondence principle, mapping the quantum generators into commuting objects of classical nature preserving their algebra.
On the basis of the non-commutative q-calculus, we investigate a q-deformation of the classical Poisson bracket in order to formulate a generalized q-deformed dynamics in the classical regime. The obtained q-deformed Poisson bracket appears invariant under the action of the q-symplectic group of transformations. In this framework we introduce the q-deformed Hamilton's equations and we derive the evolution equation for some simple q-deformed mechanical systems governed by a scalar potential dependent only on the coordinate variable. It appears that the q-deformed Hamiltonian, which is the gener…
Kontsevich's 1997 formula for the deformation quantization of Poisson brackets is a Feynman expansion involving volume integrals over moduli spaces of marked disks. We develop a systematic theory of integration on these moduli spaces via suitable algebras of polylogarithms, and use it to prove that Kontsevich's integrals can be expressed as integer-linear combinations of multiple zeta values. Our proof gives a concrete algorithm for calculating the integrals, which we have used to produce the first software package for the symbolic calculation of Kontsevich's formula.
We give a quantum field theory interpretation of Kontsevich's deformation quantization formula for Poisson manifolds. We show that it is given by the perturbative expansion of the path integral of a simple topological bosonic open string theory. Its Batalin-Vilkovisky quantization yields a superconformal field theory. The associativity of the star product, and more generally the formality conjecture can then be understood by field theory methods. As an application, we compute the center of the deformed algebra in terms of the center of the Poisson algebra.
Developing ideas based on combinatorial formulas for characteristic classes we introduce the algebra modeling secondary characteristic classes associated to $N$ connections. Certain elements of the algebra correspond to the ordinary and secondary characteristic classes. That construction allows us to give easily the explicit formulas for some known secondary classes and to construct the new ones. We write how $i$-th differential and $i$-th homotopy operator in the algebra are connected with the Poisson bracket defined in this algebra. There is an analogy between this algebra and the noncommutat…
Kontsevich designed a scheme to generate infinitesimal symmetries $\dot{\mathcal{P}} = \mathcal{Q}(\mathcal{P})$ of Poisson brackets $\mathcal{P}$ on all affine manifolds $M^r$; every such deformation is encoded by oriented graphs on $n+2$ vertices and $2n$ edges. In particular, these symmetries can be obtained by orienting sums of non-oriented graphs $γ$ on $n$ vertices and $2n-2$ edges. The bi-vector flow $\dot{\mathcal{P}} = \text{Or}(γ)(\mathcal{P})$ preserves the space of Poisson structures if $γ$ is a cocycle with respect to the vertex-expanding differential in the graph complex. A class…
We define the q-deformed Gelfand-Dickey bracket on the space of q-pseudodifference symbols which agrees with the Poisson Virasoro algebra of E.Frenkel and N.Reshetikhin and its generalizations and prove its uniqueness (in a natural class of quadratic Poisson structures). The associated hierarchies of nonlinear q-difference equations are also constructed.
In two seminal papers Kontsevich used a construction called_graph homology_ as a bridge between certain infinite dimensional Lie algebras and various topological objects, including moduli spaces of curves, the group of outer automorphisms of a free group, and invariants of odd dimensional manifolds. In this paper, we show that Kontsevich's graph complexes, which include graph complexes studied earlier by Culler and Vogtmann and by Penner, have a rich algebraic structure. We define a Lie bracket and cobracket on graph complexes, and in fact show that they are Batalin-Vilkovisky algebras, and th…

Let $P$ be a Poisson structure on a finite-dimensional affine real manifold. Can $P$ be deformed in such a way that it stays Poisson? The language of Kontsevich graphs provides a universal approach -- with respect to all affine Poisson manifolds -- to finding a class of solutions to this deformation problem. For that reasoning, several types of graphs are needed. In this paper we outline the algorithms to generate those graphs. The graphs that encode deformations are classified by the number of internal vertices $k$; for $k \leqslant 4$ we present all solutions of the deformation problem. For …
We prove that non-coisotropic branes in the Poisson-Sigma model are allowed at the quantum level. When the brane is defined by second-class constraints, the perturbative quantization of the model yields the Kontsevich's star product associated to the Dirac bracket on the brane. We also discuss the quantization when both first and second-class constraints are present.
It is known that symmetric orbits in ${\bf g}^*$ for any simple Lie algebra ${\bf g}$ are equiped with a Poisson pencil generated by the Kirillov-Kostant-Souriau bracket and the reduced Sklyanin bracket associated to the "canonical" R-matrix. We realize quantization of this Poisson pencil on $\cp$ type orbits (i.e. orbits in $sl(n+1)^*$ whose real compact form is $ CP^n$) by means of q-deformed Verma modules.
We construct a Chern-Simons action for q-deformed gauge theory which is a simple and straightforward generalization of the usual one. Space-time continues to be an ordinary (commuting) manifold, while the gauge potentials and the field strengths become q-commuting fields. Our approach, which is explicitly carried out for the case of `minimal' deformations, has the advantage of leading naturally to a consistent Hamiltonian structure that has essentially all of the features of the undeformed case. For example, using the new Poisson brackets, the constraints form a closed algebra and generate q-d…
On every split supermanifold equipped with the Rothstein even super-Poisson bracket we construct a deformation quantization by means of a Fedosov-type procedure. In other words, the supercommutative algebra of all smooth sections of the dual Grassmann algebra bundle of an arbitrarily given vector bundle E (equipped with a fibre metric) over a symplectic manifold M will be deformed by a series of bidifferential operators having first order supercommutator proportional to the Rothstein superbracket. Moreover, we discuss two constructions related to the above result, namely the quantized BRST-coh…
Whenever a given Poisson manifold is equipped with discrete symmetries the corresponding algebra of invariant functions or the algebra of functions twisted by the symmetry group can have new deformations, which are not captured by Kontsevich Formality. We consider the simplest example of this situation: $\mathbb{R}^2$ with the reflection symmetry $\mathbb{Z}_2$. The usual quantization leads to the Weyl algebra. While Weyl algebra is rigid, the algebra of even or twisted by $\mathbb{Z}_2$ functions has one more deformation, which was identified by Wigner and is related to Feigin's $gl_λ$ and to…
We give explicit formulas for the generators of $q$-deformed W-algebras associated to Lie algebras $D_n, E_6$ and $G_2$, and compute the Poisson brackets between the generators.
In this paper we study a family of algebraic deformations of regular coadjoint orbits of compact semisimple Lie groups with the Kirillov Poisson bracket. The deformations are restrictions of deformations on the dual of the Lie algebra. We prove that there are non isomorphic deformations in the family. The star products are not differential, unlike the star products considered in other approaches. We make a comparison with the differential star product canonically defined by Kontsevich's map.
We give an explicit construction of a deformation quantization of the algebra of functions on a Poisson manifolds, based on Kontsevich's local formula. The deformed algebra of functions is realized as the algebra of horizontal sections of a vector bundle with flat connection.
From the paper "Formality Conjecture" (Ascona 1996): "I am aware of only one such a class, it corresponds to simplest good graph, the complete graph with $4$ vertices $($and $6$ edges$)$. This class gives a remarkable vector field on the space of bi-vector fields on $\mathbb{R}^{d}$. The evolution with respect to the time $t$ is described by the following non-linear partial differential equation: ..., where $α=\sum_{i,j}α_{ij} {\partial}/{\partial x_{i}}\wedge {\partial}/{\partial x_{j}}$ is a bi-vector field on $\mathbb{R}^d$. It follows from general properties of cohomology that $1)$ this ev…
The aim of the note is to provide an introduction to the algebraic, geometric and quantum field theoretic ideas that lie behind the Kontsevich-Cattaneo-Felder formula for the quantization of Poisson structures. We show how the quantization formula itself naturally arises when one imposes the following two requirements to a Feynman integral: on the one side it has to reproduce the given Poisson structure as the first order term of its perturbative expansion; on the other side its three-point functions should describe an associative algebra. It is further shown how the Magri-Koszul brackets on 1…
We consider a generic gauge system, whose physical degrees of freedom are obtained by restriction on a constraint surface followed by factorization with respect to the action of gauge transformations; in so doing, no Hamiltonian structure or action principle is supposed to exist. For such a generic gauge system we construct a consistent BRST formulation, which includes the conventional BV Lagrangian and BFV Hamiltonian schemes as particular cases. If the original manifold carries a weak Poisson structure (a bivector field giving rise to a Poisson bracket on the space of physical observables) t…
Let $α$ be a polynomial Poisson bivector on a finite-dimensional vector space $V$ over $\mathbb{C}$. Then Kontsevich [K97] gives a formula for a quantization $f\star g$ of the algebra $S(V)^*$. We give a construction of an algebra with the PBW property defined from $α$ by generators and relations. Namely, we define an algebra as the quotient of the free tensor algebra $T(V^*)$ by relations $x_i\otimes x_j-x_j\otimes x_i=R_{ij}(\hbar)$ where $R_{ij}(\hbar)\in T(V^*)\otimes\hbar \mathbb{C}[[\hbar]]$, $R_{ij}=\hbar \Sym(α_{ij})+\mathcal{O}(\hbar^2)$, with one relation for each pair of $i,j=1...\d…
We discuss the effects that a noncommutative geometry induced by a Drinfeld twist has on physical theories. We systematically deform all products and symmetries of the theory. We discuss noncommutative classical mechanics, in particular its deformed Poisson bracket and hence time evolution and symmetries. The twisting is then extended to classical fields, and then to the main interest of this work: quantum fields. This leads to a geometric formulation of quantization on noncommutative spacetime, i.e. we establish a noncommutative correspondence principle from *-Poisson brackets to *-commutator…
We develop quantization techniques for describing the nonassociative geometry probed by closed strings in flat non-geometric R-flux backgrounds M. Starting from a suitable Courant sigma-model on an open membrane with target space M, regarded as a topological sector of closed string dynamics in R-space, we derive a twisted Poisson sigma-model on the boundary of the membrane whose target space is the cotangent bundle T^*M and whose quasi-Poisson structure coincides with those previously proposed. We argue that from the membrane perspective the path integral over multivalued closed string fields …
