For the Schrödinger flow from $R^2 \times R^+$ to the 2-sphere $S^2$, it is not known if finite energy solutions can blow up in finite time. We study equivariant solutions whose energy is near the energy of the family of equivariant harmonic maps. We prove that such solutions remain close to the harmonic maps until the blow up time (if any), and that they blow up if and only if the length scale of the nearest harmonic map goes to zero.
In this paper, we determine the wave front sets of solutions to Schrödinger equations of a harmonic oscillator with sub-quadratic perturbation by using the representation of the Schrödinger evolution operator of a harmonic oscillator via the wave packet transform.
In this paper we obtain some Strichartz estimates for the Schrödinger equation associated to the harmonic oscillator and the Laplacian. Our main tool will be some embeddings between Lebesgue spaces and suitable Triebel-Lizorkin spaces.
We consider the Cauchy problem of a dissipative nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a time dependent harmonic potential. We find a critical situation that the $L^2$-norm of dissipative solutions decays or not and which is decided by a nonlinear power and time decay order of harmonic potential.
This paper is concerned with the Cauchy problem for an inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrodinger equation with exponential growth nonlinearity and harmonic potential in two space dimensions. We prove global well-posedness, existence of the associated ground state and instability of the standing wave.
We provide necessary and sufficient geometric conditions for the exact controllability of the one-dimensional fractional free and fractional harmonic Schrödinger equations. The necessary and sufficient condition for the exact controllability of fractional free Schrödinger equations is derived from the Logvinenko-Sereda theorem and its quantitative version established by Kovrijkine, whereas the one for the exact controllability of fractional harmonic Schrödinger equations is deduced from an infinite dimensional version of the Hautus test for Hermite functions and the Plancherel-Rotach formula.
The results of this paper are twofold: In the first part, we prove that for Schrödinger map flows from hyperbolic planes to Riemannian surfaces with non-positive sectional curvatures, the harmonic maps which are holomorphic or anti-holomorphic of arbitrary size are asymptotically stable. In the second part, we prove that for Schrödinger map flows from hyperbolic planes into Kähler manifolds, the admissible harmonic maps of small size are asymptotically stable. The asymptotic stability results stated here contain two types: one is the convergence in $L^{\infty}_x$ as the previous works, the oth…
We consider the final-state problem for the nonlinear Schrödinger equations (NLS) with a suitable time-decaying harmonic oscillator. In this equation, the power of nonlinearity $|u|^ρu $ is included in the long-range class if $0 < ρ\leq 2/(n(1- λ)) $ with $0 \leq λ<1/2$, which is determined by the harmonic potential and a coefficient of Laplacian. In this paper, we find the final state for this system and obtain the decay estimate for asymptotics.
In this paper,we show that spherical bounded energy solution of the defocusing 3D energy critical Schrödinger equation with harmonic potential, $(i\partial_t + \frac Δ2+\frac {|x|^2}2)u=|u|^4u$, exits globally and scatters to free solution in the space $Σ=H^1\bigcap\mathcal F H^1$. We preclude the concentration of energy in finite time by combining the energy decay estimates.
We consider the initial-value problem for the equivariant Schrödinger maps near a family of harmonic maps. We provide some supplemental arguments for the proof of local well-posedness result by Gustafson, Kang and Tsai in [Duke Math. J. 145(3) 537--583, 2008]. We also prove that the solution near harmonic maps is unique in $C(I;\dot{H}^1(\mathbb{R}^2)\cap\dot{H}^2(\mathbb{R}^2))$ for time interval $I$. In the proof, we give a justification of the derivation of the modified Schrödinger map equation in low regularity settings without smallness of energy.
Solutions of semi-classical Schrodinger equation with isotropic harmonic potential focus periodically in time. We study the perturbation of this equation by a nonlinear term. If the scaling of this perturbation is critical, each focus crossing is described by a nonlinear scattering operator, which is therefore iterated as many times as the solution passes through a focus. The study of this nonlinear problem is made possible by the introduction of two operators well adapted to Schrodinger equations with harmonic potential, and by suitable Strichartz inequalities.
Time-decaying harmonic oscillators yield dispersive estimates with weak decay, and change the threshold power of the nonlinearity between the short and the long range. In the non-critical case for the time-decaying harmonic oscillator, this threshold can be characterized by polynomial nonlinearities. However, in the critical case, it is difficult to characterize the threshold using only polynomial terms, and thus we use logarithmic nonlinear terms.
We derive conditional stability estimates for inverse scattering problems related to time harmonic magnetic Schrödinger equation. We prove logarithmic type estimates for retrieving the magnetic (up to a gradient) and electric potentials from near field or far field maps. Our approach combines techniques from similar results obtained in the literature for inhomogeneous inverse scattering problems based on the use of geometrical optics solutions.
We obtain existence and multiplicity results for the solutions of a class of coupled semilinear bi-harmonic Schrödinger equations. Actually, using the classical Mountain Pass Theorem and minimization techniques, we prove the existence of critical points of the associated functional constrained on the \emph{Nehari manifold}. Furthermore, we show that using the so-called \emph{fibering method} and the \emph{Lusternik-Schnirel'man theory} there exist infinitely many solutions, actually a countable family of critical points, for such a semiliner bi-hamonic Schrödinger system under study in this wo…
We consider the Cauchy problem for the Schrödinger maps evolution when the domain is the hyperbolic plane. An interesting feature of this problem compared to the more widely studied case on the Euclidean plane is the existence of a rich new family of finite energy harmonic maps. These are stationary solutions, and thus play an important role in the dynamics of Schrödinger maps. The main result of this article is the asymptotic stability of (some of) such harmonic maps under the Schrödinger maps evolution. More precisely, we prove the nonlinear asymptotic stability of a finite energy equivarian…
The initial value problem for some coupled nonlinear Schrodinger system with unbounded potential is investigated. In the defocusing case, global well-posedness is obtained. For the focusing sign, existence of global and non global solutions is discussed via potential well method. Moreover, existence of ground state and instability of standing waves are proved.
We study strong instability of standing waves $e^{iωt} ϕ_ω(x)$ for nonlinear Schrödinger equations with $L^2$-supercritical nonlinearity and a harmonic potential, where $ϕ_ω$ is a ground state of the corresponding stationary problem. We prove that $e^{iωt} ϕ_ω(x)$ is strongly unstable if $\partial_λ^2 E(ϕ_ω^λ) |_{λ=1}\le 0$, where $E$ is the energy and $v^λ(x)=λ^{N/2} v(λx)$ is the $L^2$-invariant scaling.
This note studies the asymptotic behavior of global solutions to the fourth-order Schrödinger equation $$i\dot u+Δ^2 u+F(x,u)=0 .$$ Indeed, for both cases, local and non-local source term, the scattering is obtained in the focusing mass super-critical and energy sub-critical regimes, with radial setting. This work uses a new approach due to Dodson-Murphy \cite{dm}.
We study the local well-posedness theory for the Schrödinger Maps equation. We work in $n+1$ dimensions, for $n \geq 2$, and prove a local well-posedness for small initial data in $H^{\frac{n}{2}+\e}$.
We study the instability of standing-wave solutions $e^{iωt}ϕ_ω(x)$ to the inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation $$iϕ_t=-\triangleϕ+|x|^2ϕ-|x|^b|ϕ|^{p-1}ϕ, \qquad \in\mathbb{R}^N, $$ where $ b > 0 $ and $ ϕ_ω $ is a ground-state solution. The results of the instability of standing-wave solutions reveal a balance between the frequency $ω$ of wave and the power of nonlinearity $p $ for any fixed $ b > 0. $
We consider Calderón's inverse boundary value problems for a class of nonlinear Helmholtz Schrödinger equations and Maxwell's equations in a bounded domain in $\R^n$. The main method is the higher-order linearization of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map of the corresponding equations. The local uniqueness of the linearized partial data Calderón's inverse problem is obtained following \cite{DKSU}. The Runge approximation properties and unique continuation principle allow us to extend to global situations. Simultaneous recovery of some unknown cavity$/$boundary and coefficients are given as some appl…
This survey is based on a series of lectures given during the \emph{School on Random Schrödinger Operators} and the \emph{International Conference on Spectral Theory and Mathematical Physics} at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile, held in Santiago in November 2014. As the title suggests, the presented material has two foci: Harmonic analysis, more precisely, unique continuation properties of several natural function classes and Schrödinger operators, more precisely properties of their eigenvalues, eigenfunctions and solutions of associated differential equations. It mixes topics from…
We study the global well-posedness theory for the Schrödinger Maps equation. We work in $n+1$ dimensions, for $n \geq 3$, and prove a local well-posedness for small initial data in $\dot{B}^{\frac{n}{2}}_{2,1}$.
We prove global well-posedness for a cubic, non-local Schrödinger equation with radially-symmetric initial data in the critical space $L^2(\R^2)$, using the framework of Kenig-Merle and Killip-Tao-Visan. As a consequence, we obtain a global well-posedness result for Schrödinger maps from $\R^2$ into $§^2$ (Landau-Lifshitz equation) with radially symmetric initial data (with no size restriction).
In dimensions $d\geq 4$, we prove that the Schrödinger map initial-value problem admits global (in time) solutions for smooth data with small norm in the critical Sobolev space.
For the Schrödinger map problem from 2+1 dimensions into the 2-sphere we prove the existence of equivariant finite time blow up solutions that are close to a dynamically rescaled lowest energy harmonic map, the scaling parameter being given by $t^{-ν}$ with $ν>3/2$.
We consider equivariant solutions for the Schrödinger map problem from $\mathbb{R}^{2+1}$ to $\mathbb{S}^2$ with energy less than $4π$ and show that they are global in time and scatter.
We prove that the solutions to the initial-value problem for 2-dimensional Schrödinger maps are unique in $C_tL_x^{\infty} \cap L_t^{\infty} (\dot{H}^1_x\cap \dot{H}^2_x)$. For the proof, we follow McGahagan's argument with improving its technical part, combining Yudovich's argument.
In dimensions greater than or equal to 3, we prove that the Schroedinger map initial-value problem is globally well-posed for small data in the critical Besov space.
We consider nonlocal linear Schrödinger-type critical systems of the type \begin{equation}\label{eqabstr} Δ^{1/4} v=Ω\, v~~~\mbox{in $\R\,.$} \ \end{equation} where $Ω$ is antisymmetric potential in $L^2(\R,so(m))$, $v$ is a ${\R}^m$ valued map and $Ω\, v$ denotes the matrix multiplication. We show that every solution $v\in L^2(\R,\R^m)$ of \rec{eqabstr} is in fact in $L^p_{loc}(\R,\R^m)$, for every $2\le p<+\infty$, in other words, we prove that the system (\ref{eqabstr}) which is a-priori only critical in $L^2$ happens to have a subcritical behavior for antisymmetric potentials. As an applic…
We consider equivariant solutions for the Schrödinger map problem from $\R^{2+1}$ to $\H^2$ with finite energy and show that they are global in time and scatter.
In this article, we consider the equivariant Schrödinger map from $\Bbb H^2$ to $\Bbb S^2$ which converges to the north pole of $\Bbb S^2$ at the origin and spatial infinity of the hyperbolic space. If the energy of the data is less than $4π$, we show that the local existence of Schrödinger map. Furthermore, if the energy of the data sufficiently small, we prove the solutions are global in time.
In this article we study the Schrödinger equation associated with Harmonic oscillator in the form of Strichartz type inequality. We give simple proofs for Strichartz type inequalities using purely the $L^2 \to L^p$ operator norm estimates of the spectral projections associated harmonic oscillator proved in \cite{KT}. Our Strichartz type estimates are sharp in sense of regularity of initial data.
We study nonlinear Schrödinger $i\partial_tu-Hu=F(u)$ (NLSH) equation associated to harmonic oscillator $H=-Δ+|x|^2$ in modulation spaces $M^{p,q}.$ When $F(u)= (|x|^{-γ}\ast |u|^2)u, $ we prove global well-posedness for (NLSH) in modulation spaces $M^{p,p}(\mathbb R^d)$ $ (1\leq p < 2d/(d+γ), 0<γ< \min \{ 2, d/2\}).$ When $F(u)= (K\ast |u|^{2k})u$ with $K\in \mathcal{F}L^q $ (Fourier-Lebesgue spaces) or $M^{\infty,1}$ (Sjöstrand's class) or $M^{1, \infty},$ some local and global well-posedness for (NLSH) are obtained in some modulation spaces. When $F$ is real entire and $F(0)=0$, we prove lo…
Strichartz estimates for a time-decaying harmonic oscillator were proven with some assumptions of coefficients for the time-decaying harmonic potentials. The main results of this paper are to remove these assumptions and to enable us to deal with the more general coefficient functions. Moreover, we also prove similar estimates for time-decaying homogeneous magnetic fields.
The purpose of this article is to construct global solutions for some super-crtical Schrodinger equations using the theory of random data introduced by N.Burq and N.Tzvetkov. We begin our study by the cubic equation in three dimension. Thanks to the lens transform, it suffices to study a local theory for the Schrödinger equations with harmonic potential and we can establish Bourgain type bilinear estimates for the harmonic oscillator. Then, we explain how we can generalize this result in all dimensions.
We study the Dirichlet problem for harmonic maps between hyperbolic planes, under the assumption that the Euclidean harmonic extension of the boundary map is quasiconformal.
We give bilateral pointwise estimates for positive solutions of the equation \begin{equation*} \left\{ \begin{aligned} -\triangle u & = ωu \, \,& & \mbox{in} \, \, Ω, \quad u \ge 0, \\ u & = f \, \, & &\mbox{on} \, \, \partial Ω, \end{aligned} \right. \end{equation*} in a bounded uniform domain $Ω\subset {\bf R}^n$, where $ω$ is a locally finite Borel measure in $Ω$, and $f\ge 0$ is integrable with respect to harmonic measure $d H^{x}$ on $\partialΩ$. We also give sufficient and matching necessary conditions for the existence of a positive solution in terms of the exponential integrability of …
Harmonic maps are nonlinear extensions of harmonic functions. They are critical points of natural energy functionals between Riemannian manifolds. Such type of problems appear in Physics, Geometry of Finance and the study of regularity and singularity uses methods from elliptic PDE, calculus of variations and geometric measure theory. In this paper, we present a general review of harmonic maps. It is a survey that aims to cover the main classical known results regarding the harmonic maps. We present results for the regularity, blow-ups and rectifiability for local minimizers, stationary harmon…
We study two resonant Hamiltonian systems on the phase space $L^2(\mathbb{R} \rightarrow \mathbb{C})$: the quintic one-dimensional continuous resonant equation, and a cubic resonant system that has appeared in the literature as a modified scattering limit for an NLS equation with cigar shaped trap. We prove that these systems approximate the dynamics of the quintic and cubic one-dimensional NLS with harmonic trapping in the small data regime on long times scales. We then pursue a thorough study of the dynamics of the resonant systems themselves. Our central finding is that these resonant equat…
We prove the uniqueness of solutions to Dirichlet problem for p-harmonic maps with images in a small geodesic ball of the target manifold. As a consequence, we show that such maps have Hoelder continuous derivatives. This gives an extension of a result by S. Hildebrandt et al concerning harmonic maps.
In this paper we prove an abstract KAM theorem for infinite dimensional Hamiltonians systems. This result extends previous works of S.B. Kuksin and J. Pöschel and uses recent techniques of H. Eliasson and S.B. Kuksin. As an application we show that some 1D nonlinear Schrödinger equations with harmonic potential admits many quasi-periodic solutions. In a second application we prove the reducibility of the 1D Schrödinger equations with the harmonic potential and a quasi periodic in time potential.
The purpose of this note is to prove the existence of global weak solutions to the flow associated to integro-differential harmonic maps into spheres and Riemannian homogeneous manifolds.
We introduce n/p-harmonic maps as critical points of E(v) the Lp-Norm of the alpha-laplacian of v, where pointwise v maps Rn into a sphere, and alpha = n/p. This energy combines the non-local behaviour of the fractional harmonic maps introduced by Riviere and the first author with the degenerate arguments of the n-laplacian. In this setting, we will prove Holder continuity.
In this article, we first present the construction of Gibbs measures associated to nonlinear Schrödinger equations with harmonic potential. Then we show that the corresponding Cauchy problem is globally well-posed for rough initial conditions in a statistical set (the support of the measures). Finally, we prove that the Gibbs measures are indeed invariant by the flow of the equation. As a byproduct of our analysis, we give a global well-posedness and scattering result for the $L^2$ critical and super-critical NLS (without harmonic potential).
We prove a quantification result for harmonic maps with free boundary from arbitrary Riemannian surfaces into the unit ball of ${\mathbb R}^{n+1}$ with bounded energy. This generalizes results obtained by Da Lio on the disc.
Using certain Ito's equation, we introduce the probability on the space of paths and show its relevance to the scattering properties of multidimensional Schrodinger operator. To relate the geometry of the support of potential to the spectral type we develop a special variant of Potential theory and prove some estimates on the modified Harmonic measure.
We study Robin-to-Robin maps, and Krein-type resolvent formulas for Schrödinger operators on bounded Lipschitz domains in $\bbR^n$, $n\ge 2$, with generalized Robin boundary conditions.
In this paper we establish the equivalence of solutions between Schrödinger map into $\mathbb{S}^2$ or $ \mathbb{H}^2$ and their associated gauge invariant Schrödinger equations. We also establish the existence of global weak solutions into $\mathbb{H}^2$ in two space dimensions. We extend these ideas for maps into compact hermitian symmetric manifolds with trivial first cohomology.
We study the Cauchy problem for Schrodinger equations with repulsive quadratic potential and power-like nonlinearity. The local problem is well-posed in the same space as that used when a confining harmonic potential is involved. For a defocusing nonlinearity, it is globally well-posed, and a scattering theory is available, with no long range effect for any superlinear nonlinearity. When the nonlinearity is focusing, we prove that choosing the harmonic potential sufficiently strong prevents blow-up in finite time. Thanks to quadratic potentials, we provide a method to anticipate, delay, or pre…
