In the study of holomorphic functions of one complex variable, one well-known theory is that of elliptic functions and it is possible to take the zeta-function of Weierstrass as a building stone of this vast theory. We are working the analogue theory in the natural context of higher dimensional spaces : holomorphic and elliptic Cliffordian functions.
The well-known Jacobi elliptic functions sn(z)$, $cn(z), dn(z) are defined in higher dimensional spaces by the following method. Consider the Clifford algebra of the antieuclidean vector space of dimension 2m+1. Let x be the identity mapping on the space of scalars + vectors. The holomorphic Cliffordian functions may be viewed roughly as generated by the powers of x, namely x^n, their derivatives, their sums, their limits (cf : z^n for classical holomorphic functions). In that context it is possible to define the same type of functions as Jacobi's.
The aim of this paper is to put the fundations of a new theory of functions, called holomorphic Cliffordian, which should play an essential role in the generalization of holomorphic functions to higher dimensions. Let R\_{0,2m+1} be the Clifford algebra of R^{2m+1} with a quadratic form of negative signature, D = \sum\_{j=0}^{2m+1} e\_j {\partial\over \partial x\_j} be the usual operator for monogenic functions and $Δ$ the ordinary Laplacian. The holomorphic Cliffordian functions are functions f : \R^{2m+2} \fle \R\_{0,2m+1}, which are solutions of D Δ^m f = 0
In classical function theory, a function is holomorphic if and only if it is complex analytic. For higher dimensional spaces it is natural to work in the context of Clifford algebras. The structures of these algebras depend on the parity of the dimension n of the underlying vector space. The theory of holomorphic Cliffordian functions reflects this dependence. In the case of odd n the space of functions is defined by an operator (the Cauchy-Riemann equation) but not in the case of even $n$. For all dimensions the powers of identity (z^n, x^n) are the foundation of function theory.
Let R\_{0,n} be the Clifford algebra of the antieuclidean vector space of dimension n. The aim is to built a function theory analogous to the one in the C case. In the latter case, the product of two holomorphic functions is holomorphic, this fact is, of course, of paramount importance. Then it is necessary to define a product for functions in the Clifford context. But, non-commutativity is inconciliable with product of functions. Here we introduce a product which is commutative and we compute some examples explicitely.
In this paper we deal with a new class of Clifford algebra valued automorphic forms on arithmetic subgroups of the Ahlfors-Vahlen group. The forms that we consider are in the kernel of the operator $D Δ^{k/2}$ for some even $k \in {\mathbb{Z}}$. They will be called $k$-holomorphic Cliffordian automorphic forms. $k$-holomorphic Cliffordian functions are well equipped with many function theoretical tools. Furthermore, the real component functions have also the property that they are solutions to the homogeneous and inhomogeneous Weinstein equation. This function class includes the set of $k$-hyp…
We analyze the elliptic function ${\rm dn}_2$ introduced by Li-Chien Shen, contributing to the Ramanujan theory of elliptic functions in signature four.
We analyze the elliptic function ${\rm dn}_3$ introduced by Li-Chien Shen, contributing to the Ramanujan theory of elliptic functions in signature three. A famous hypergeometric identity emerges from our analysis.
Despite the fact that there is a huge amount on papers and books devoted to the theory of Jacobian elliptic functions, very little is known when the modulus $k$ of these functions lies outside the unit interval $[0,1]$. In this note, we prove some simple inequalities for the absolute value of Jacobian elliptic functions with complex modulus.
Within the Ramanujan theories of elliptic functions, Li-Chien Shen constructed natural elliptic functions in signature three and signature four. When applied in signature six, the same constructions produce non-elliptic functions that nevertheless engender the corresponding hypergeometric identities of Ramanujan.
Li-Chien Shen developed a family of elliptic functions from the hypergeometric function $_2F_1(\frac{1}{3}, \frac{2}{3} ; \frac{1}{2} ; \bullet)$. We comment on this development, offering some new proofs.
We reconsider the elliptic functions that are generated from the hypergeometric function $F(\tfrac{1}{4}, \tfrac{3}{4}; \tfrac{1}{2} ; \bullet)$ by Li-Chien Shen, presenting fresh proofs that do not require the use of theta functions.
Let f be a nonconstant meromorphic function in the plane and h be a nonconstant elliptic function. We show that if all zeros of f are multiple exept finitely many and T(r,h)=o{T(r,f)} as r tends to infinity, then f'=h has infinitely many solutions (including poles).
Elliptic functions are largely studied and standardized mathematical objects. The two usual approaches are due to Jacobi and Weierstrass. From a contour integral which allowed us to unify many summation formulae (Euler-MacLaurin, Poisson, Voronoï or Circle formulae), we will find the entirety of the elliptic functions, proposed either in the shape of Jacobi or Weierstrass. But with one translation which appears in their natural form. What could seem a defect will lead us to a renormalisation of the elliptic functions making it possible to determine, in a rather simple way, a Fourier series rep…
We investigate the first-order system `$s\,' = c^3, \, c\,' = - s^3; \, s(0) = 0, \, c(0) = 1$'. Its solutions have the property that $s \, c$, $s^2$ and $c^2$ extend to simply-poled elliptic functions, which we explicitly identify in terms of the lemniscatic Weierstrass $\wp$ function.
Biquaternionic Vekua-type equations arising from the factorization of linear second order elliptic operators are studied. Some concepts from classical pseudoanalytic function theory are generalized onto the considered spatial case. The derivative and antiderivative of a spatial pseudoanalytic function are introduced and their applications to the second order elliptic equations are considered.
The vanishing of the invariant $g_3$ attached to a lattice $Λ$ singles out a midpoint lattice and yields a square-root of the associated Weierstrass function $\wp_Λ$.
As a contribution to the Ramanujan theory of elliptic functions to alternative bases, Li-Chien Shen has shown how analogues of the Jacobian elliptic functions may be derived from incomplete hypergeometric integrals in signatures three and four. We determine precisely the signatures in which the Jacobian analogues or their squares are indeed elliptic.
In this paper we establish a close connection between three notions at- tached to a modular subgroup. Namely the set of weight two meromorphic modular forms, the set of equivariant functions on the upper half-plane commuting with the action of the modular subgroup and the set of elliptic zeta functions generalizing the Weierstrass zeta functions. In particular, we show that the equivariant functions can be parameterized by modular objects as well as by elliptic objects.
The work is dedicated to the theory of elliptic functions of level $n$. An elliptic function of level $n$ determines a Hirzebruch genus that is called elliptic genus of level $n$. Elliptic functions of level $n$ are also interesting as solutions of Hirzebruch functional equations. The elliptic function of level $2$ is the Jacobi elliptic sine. It determines the famous Ochanine--Witten genus. It is the exponential of the universal formal group of the form \[ F(u,v)=\frac{u^2 -v^2}{u B(v) - v B(u)}, \quad B(0) = 1. \] The elliptic function of level $3$ is the exponential of the universal formal …
The article is devoted to the classical problems about the relationships between elliptic functions and hyperelliptic functions of genus 2. It contains new results, as well as a derivation from them of well-known results on these issues. Our research was motivated by applications to the theory of equations and dynamical systems integrable in hyperelliptic functions of genus 2. We consider a hyperelliptic curve $V$ of genus 2 which admits a morphism of degree 2 to an elliptic curve. Then there exist two elliptic curves $E_i$, $i=1,2$, and morphisms of degree 2 from $V$ to $E_i$. We construct hy…
We study monotonicity and convexity properties of functions arising in the theory of elliptic integrals, and in particular in the case of a Schwarz-Christoffel conformal mapping from a half-plane to a trapezoid. We obtain sharp monotonicity and convexity results for combinations of these functions, as well as functional inequalities and a linearization property.
The identities for elliptic gamma functions discovered by A. Varchenko and one of us are generalized to an infinite set of identities for elliptic gamma functions associated to pairs of planes in 3-dimensional space. The language of stacks and gerbes gives a natural framework for a systematic description of these identities and their domain of validity. A triptic curve is the quotient of the complex plane by a subgroup of rank three (it is a stack). Our identities can be summarized by saying that elliptic gamma functions form a meromorphic section of a hermitian holomorphic abelian gerbe over …
We establish a one-to-one correspondence between,on one hand the four types of transcendental meromorphic solutions of the autonomous Schwarzian differential equations which are elliptic,on the other hand the four binomial equations of Briot and Bouquet possessing an elliptic solution.
