This paper (the seventh paper in a series of eight) continues the development of our theory of multivector and extensor calculus on smooth manifolds. Here we deal first with the concepts of ordinary Hodge coderivatives, duality identities, and Hodge coderivative identities. Then, we recall the concept of a Levi-Civita geometric structure and the concepts of Levi-Civita and gauge derivatives. New formulas that are important in the Lagrangian theory of multivector adn extensor fields are obtained. We introduce also he concept of covariant Hodge coderivative. We detail how all these concepts are related.
We formalize geometrically the idea that the (de Donder) Hamiltonian formulation of a higher derivative Lagrangian field theory can be constructed understanding the latter as a first derivative theory subjected to constraints.
The covariant derivative of the Kähler form of an almost pseudo-Hermitian or of an almost para-Hermitian manifold satisfies certain algebraic relations. We show, conversely, that any 3-tensor which satisfies these algebraic relations can be realized geometrically.
This paper, sixth in a series of eight, uses the geometric calculus on manifolds developed in previous papers of the series to introduce through the concept of a metric extensor field g a metric structure for a smooth manifold M. The associated Christoffel operators, a notable decomposition of that object and the associated Levi-Civita connection field are given. The paper introduces also the concept of a geometrical structure for a manifold M as a triple (M,g,gamma), where gamma is a connection extensor field defining a parallelism structure for M . Next, the theory of metric compatible covar…
We study fractional configurations in gravity theories and Lagrange mechanics. The approach is based on Caputo fractional derivative which gives zero for actions on constants. We elaborate fractional geometric models of physical interactions and we formulate a method of nonholonomic deformations to other types of fractional derivatives. The main result of this paper consists in a proof that for corresponding classes of nonholonomic distributions a large class of physical theories are modelled as nonholonomic manifolds with constant matrix curvature. This allows us to encode the fractional dyna…
For a nonconstant holomorphic map between projective Riemann surfaces with conformal metrics, we consider invariant Schwarzian derivatives and projective Schwarzian derivatives of general virtual order. We show that these two quantities are related by the "Schwarzian derivative" of the metrics of the surfaces (at least for the case of virtual orders 2 and 3). As an application, we give univalence criteria for a meromorphic function on the unit disk in terms of the projective Schwarzian derivative of virtual order 3.
Let $(M,g)$ be a Riemannian manifold, and $m$ be a second metric on $M$. We give expressions of $m$'s associated connection, and Riemann curvature tensor $R_m$, in terms of $R_g$ and certain combinations of covariant derivatives of $m$ (with respect to the Levi-Civita connection associated with $g$). The formulas turn out to be generalizations of the coordinate expressions. Coordinate expression formulas can be recovered from ours by setting $g$ as the Euclidean metric induced by a given coordinate chart. As the covariant derivative induced by $g$ becomes the ordinary partial derivative and th…
The paper deals with the possibly degenerate behaviour of the exterior derivative operator defined on $1$-forms on metric measure spaces. The main examples we consider are the non self-similar Sierpinski carpets recently introduced by Mackay, Tyson and Wildrick. Although topologically one-dimensional, they may have positive two-dimensional Lebesgue measure and carry nontrivial $2$-forms. We prove that in this case the curl operator (and therefore also the exterior derivative on $1$-forms) is not closable, and that its adjoint operator has a trivial domain. We also formulate a similar more abst…
In this short note, we investigate the effect of the local fractional derivatives on the Riemann curvature tensor that is a common tool in calculating curvature of a Riemannian manifold. For this, first we introduce a general local fractional derivative operator that involves the mostly used ones in the literature as conformable, alternative, truncated $M-$ and $\mathcal{V}-$fractional derivatives. Then, according to this general operator, a particular Riemannian metric tensor field on the real affine space $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ that is different than Euclidean one is defined. In conlusion, we obta…
We develop a comprehensive geometric framework for defining spaces $\mathcal{G}(M,E)$ of nonlinear generalized sections of vector bundles $E \to M$ containing spaces of distributional sections $\mathcal{D}'(M, E)$. Our theory incorporates classical differential geometric operations (like tensor products, covariant derivatives and Lie derivatives), is localizable and fully compatible with smooth and distributional tensor calculus. As an application to the treatment of singular metrics, we calculate the curvature of the conical metric used to describe cosmic strings.
We study a geometric flow where the motion of a set is driven by the mean curvature of its boundary and the normal derivative of its capacity potential. We establish local well-posedness and propose two possible weak formulations that exist after singularities.
In this paper we study the extent to which conformally compact asymptotically hyperbolic metrics may be characterized intrinsically. Building on the work of the first author, we prove that decay of sectional curvature to -1 and decay of covariant derivatives of curvature outside an appropriate compact set yield Hölder regularity for a conformal compactification of the metric. In the Einstein case, we prove that the estimate on the sectional curvature implies the control of all covariant derivatives of the Weyl tensor, permitting us to strengthen our result.
We give in this paper which is the third in a series of four a theory of covariant derivatives of representatives of multivector and extensor fields on an arbitrary open set U of M, based on the geometric and extensor calculus on an arbitrary smooth manifold M. This is done by introducing the notion of a connection extensor field gamma defining a parallelism structure on U, which represents in a well defined way the action on U of the restriction there of some given connection del defined on M. Also we give a novel and intrinsic presentation (i.e., one that does not depend on a chosen orthonor…
Spacetime is a 4-dimensional connected Lorentzian manifold. In this paper, we extend the Levi-Civita connection in the definition of spacetime to the semi-symmetric non-metric connection and conclude geometric structures admitted by the metric (1.1) with the semi-symmetric non-metric connections. Obviously, Morris-Thorne spacetime is Ricci generalized pseudosymmetry, Ricci generalized projectively pseudosymmetry, and has conformal 2-forms that are recurrent, etc. It also is an Einstein manifold of level 2 and 3-quasi-Einstein manifold.
