We study the maximal abelian ad-nilpotent (mad) subalgebras of the domains D Morita equivalent to the first Weyl algebra. We give a complete description both of the individual mad subalgebras and of the space of all such. A surprising consequence is that this last space is independent of D. Our results generalize some classic theorems of Dixmier about the Weyl algebra.
The theory of quantum symmetric pairs as developed by the second author is based on coideal subalgebras of the quantized universal enveloping algebra for a semisimple Lie algebra. This paper investigates the center of these coideal subalgebras, proving that the center is a polynomial ring. A basis of the center is given in terms of a submonoid of the dominant integral weights.
We describe how certain cyclotomic Nazarov-Wenzl algebras occur as endomorphism rings of projective modules in a parabolic version of BGG category O of type $D$. Furthermore we study a family of subalgebras of these endomorphism rings which exhibit similar behaviour to the family of Brauer algebras even when they are not semisimple. The translation functors on this parabolic category O are studied and proven to yield a categorification of a coideal subalgebra of the general linear Lie algebra. Finally this is put into the context of categorifying skew Howe duality for these subalgebras.
There is renewed interest in the coideal subalgebras used to form quantum symmetric pairs because of recent discoveries showing that they play a fundamental role in the representation theory of quantized enveloping algebras. However, there is still no general theory of finite-dimensional modules for these coideals. In this paper, we establish an important step in this direction: we show that every quantum symmetric pair coideal subalgebra admits a quantum Cartan subalgebra which is a polynomial ring that specializes to its classical counterpart. The construction builds on Kostant and Sugiura's…
Generators and relations are given for the subalgebra of cocommutative elements in the quantized coordinate rings of the classical groups, where the deformation parameter q is transcendental. This is a ring theoretic formulation of the well known fact that the representation theory of the quantized group is completely analogous to its classical counterpart. The subalgebras of cocommutative elements in the corresponding FRT-bialgebras (defined by Faddeev, Reshetikhin, and Takhtadzhyan) are explicitly determined, using a bialgebra embedding of the FRT-bialgebra into the tensor product of the qua…
Let $U_ζ$ be the quantum group (Lusztig form) associated to the simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, with parameter $ζ$ specialized to an $\ell$-th root of unity in a field of characteristic $p>0$. In this paper we study certain finite-dimensional normal Hopf subalgebras $U_ζ(G_r)$ of $U_ζ$, called Frobenius-Lusztig kernels, which generalize the Frobenius kernels $G_r$ of an algebraic group $G$. When $r=0$, the algebras studied here reduce to the small quantum group introduced by Lusztig. We classify the irreducible $U_ζ(G_r)$-modules and discuss their characters. We then study the cohomology ri…
We define two subalgebras which can be seen as the quantization of the coordinate rings of the unipotent radical of the standard positive (respectively negative) Borel subgroup of $SL_{n+1}$. We give a presentation for these algebras and show they are isomorphic. Moreover, we show that these algebras are the conivariants of a natural $O_q(T)$-coaction on $O_q(B^\pm)$. Finally, using a dual pairing, we show that these algebras are isomorphic to the quantum nilpotent Lie subalgebra of $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_{n+1})$.
The Poisson centralizer of the trace element is determined in the coordinate ring of SL_n endowed with the Poisson structure obtained as the semiclassical limit of its quantized coordinate ring. It turns out that this maximal Poisson-commutative subalgebra coincides with the subalgebra of invariants with respect to the adjoint action.
In this paper we prove that the subalgebras of cocommutative elements in the quantized coordinate rings of $M_{n}$, $GL_{n}$ and $SL_{n}$ are the centralizers of the trace $x_{1,1}+\dots+x_{n,n}$ in each algebra, for $q\in\mathbb{C}^{\times}$ being not a root of unity. In particular, it is not only a commutative subalgebra as it was known before, but it is a maximal one.
We recall Lusztig's construction of the asymptotic Hecke algebra $J$ of a Coxeter system $(W,S)$ via the Kazhdan--Lusztig basis of the corresponding Hecke algebra. The algebra $J$ has a direct summand $J_E$ for each two-sided Kazhdan--Lusztig cell of $W$, and we study the summand $J_C$ corresponding to a particular cell $C$ called the subregular cell. We develop a combinatorial method to compute $J_C$ without using the Kazhdan--Lusztig basis. As applications, we deduce some connections between $J_C$ and the Coxeter diagram of $W$, and we show that for certain Coxeter systems $J_C$ contains sub…
We solve a functional version of the problem of twist quantization of a coboundary Lie bialgebra (g,r,Z). We derive from this the following results: (a) the formal Poisson manifolds g^* and G^* are isomorphic; (b) we construct a subalgebra of U(g^*), isomorphic to S(g^*)^g. When g can be quantized, we construct a deformation of the morphism S(g^*)^g subset U(g^*). When g is quasitriangular and nondegenerate, we compare our construction with Semenov-Tian-Shansky's construction of a commutative subalgebra of U(g^*). We also show that the canonical derivation of the function ring of G^* is Hamilt…
Let $\mathcal{O}$ be the category of representations of the Borel subalgebra of a quantum affine algebra introduced by Jimbo and the first author. We show that the Grothendieck ring of a certain monoidal subcategory of $\mathcal{O}$ has the structure of a cluster algebra of infinite rank, with an initial seed consisting of prefundamental representations. In particular, the celebrated Baxter relations for the 6-vertex model get interpreted as Fomin-Zelevinsky mutation relations.
Coideal subalgebras of the quantized enveloping algebra are surveyed, with selected proofs included. The first half of the paper studies generators, Harish-Chandra modules, and associated quantum homogeneous spaces. The second half discusses various well known quantum coideal subalgebras and the implications of the abstract theory on these examples. The focus is on the locally finite part of the quantized enveloping algebra, analogs of enveloping algebras of nilpotent Lie subalgebras, and coideals used to form quantum symmetric pairs. The last family of examples is explored in detail. Connecti…
The m x n quantum grassmannian, G_q(m,n), is the subalgebra of the algebra of m x n quantum matrices that is generated by the maximal m x m quantum minors. Several properties of G_q(m,n) are established. In particular, a basis of G_q(m,n) is obtained, and it is shown that G_q(m,n) is a noetherian domain of Gelfand-Kirillov dimension m(n-m)+1. The algebra G_q(m,n) is identified as the subalgebra of coinvariants of a natural left coaction of the m x m quantum special linear group on the algebra of m x n quantum matrices and it is shown that G_q(m,n) is a maximal order.
The coset $G$-space of a finite group and a subgroup is a fundamental module of study of Schur and others around 1930; for example, its endomorphism algebra is a Hecke algebra of double cosets. We study and review its generalization $Q$ to Hopf subalgebras, especially the tensor powers and similarity as modules over a Hopf algebra, or what's the same, Morita equivalence of the endomorphism algebras. We prove that $Q$ has a nonzero integral if and only if the modular function restricts to the modular function of the Hopf subalgebra. We also study and organize knowledge of $Q$ and its tensor pow…
The aim of this paper is to introduce and study Lie algebras and Lie groups over noncommutative rings. For any Lie algebra $\gg$ sitting inside an associative algebra $A$ and any associative algebra $\FF$ we introduce and study the algebra $(\gg,A)(\FF)$, which is the Lie subalgebra of $\FF \otimes A$ generated by $\FF \otimes \gg$. In many examples $A$ is the universal enveloping algebra of $\gg$. Our description of the algebra $(\gg,A)(\FF)$ has a striking resemblance to the commutator expansions of $\FF$ used by M. Kapranov in his approach to noncommutative geometry. To each algebra $(\gg, …
We study the cyclic module ${}_SR$ for a ring extension $A \| B$ with centralizer $R$ and bimodule endomorphism ring $S = End {}_BA_B$. We show that if $A \| B$ is an H-separable Hopf subalgebra, then $B$ is a normal Hopf subalgebra of $A$. We observe from math.RA/0107064 and math.RA/0108067 depth two in the role of noncommutative normality (as in field theory) in a depth two separable Frobenius characterization of irreducible semisimple-Hopf-Galois extensions. We prove that a depth two extension has a Galois $A$-coring structure on $A ø_R T$ where $T$ is the right $R$-bialgebroid dual to $S$.
In our previous paper math.QA/0412192 the Cayley-Hamilton identity for the GL(m|n) type quantum matrix algebra was obtained. Here we continue investigation of that identity. We derive it in three alternative forms and, most importantly, we obtain it in a factorized form. The factorization leads to a separation of the spectra of the quantum supermatrix into the "even" and "odd" parts. The latter, in turn, allows us to parameterize the characteristic subalgebra (which can also be called the subalgebra of spectral invariants) in terms of the supersymmetric polynomials in the eigenvalues of the qu…
We provide an alternative approach to the Faddeev-Reshetikhin-Takhtajan presentation of the quantum group U_q(g), with L-operators as generators and relations ruled by an R-matrix. We look at U_q(g) as being generated by the quantum Borel subalgebras U_q(b_+) and U_q(b_-), and we use the standard presentation of the latters as quantum function algebras. When g = gl(n) these Borel quantum function algebras are generated by the entries of a triangular q-matrix, thus eventually U_q(gl(n)) is generated by the entries of an upper triangular and a lower triangular q-matrix, which share the same diag…
The universal enveloping algebra of any simple Lie algebra g contains a family of commutative subalgebras, called the quantum shift of argument subalgebras math.RT/0606380, math.QA/0612798. We prove that generically their action on finite-dimensional modules is diagonalizable and their joint spectra are in bijection with the set of monodromy-free opers for the Langlands dual group of G on the projective line with regular singularity at one point and irregular singularity of order two at another point. We also prove a multi-point generalization of this result, describing the spectra of commutin…
Reflection equation algebras and related U_q(g)-comodule algebras appear in various constructions of quantum homogeneous spaces and can be obtained via transmutation or equivalently via twisting by a cocycle. In this paper we investigate algebraic and representation theoretic properties of such so called `covariantized' algebras, in particular concerning their centres, invariants, and characters. Generalising M. Noumi's construction of quantum symmetric pairs we define a coideal subalgebra B_f of U_q(g) for each character f of a covariantized algebra. The locally finite part F_l(U_q(g)) of U_q…
The Yangian $Y(\mathfrak{g})$ of a simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ can be regarded as a deformation of two different Hopf algebras: the universal enveloping algebra $U(\mathfrak{g}[t])$ and the coordinate ring of the first congruence subgroup $\mathcal{O}(G_1[[t^{-1}]])$. Both of these algebras are obtained from the Yangian by taking the associated graded with respect to an appropriate filtration on Yangian. Bethe subalgebras form a natural family of commutative subalgebras depending on a group element $C$ of the adjoint group $G$. The images of these algebras in tensor products of fundament…
We examine maps between noncommutative projective spaces. A surjection of graded rings A-->A/J induces a closed immersion Proj(A/J)-->Proj(A). A homomorphism f:A-->B between graded rings induces an affine map U --> Proj(A) from a non-empty open subspace U of Proj(B). If A^{(n)} is the n-th Veronese subalgebra of a graded ring A there is a map Proj(A)-->Proj(A^{(n)}); we identify open subspaces on which this map is an isomorphism. Applying these results when A is (a quotient of) a weighted polynomial ring produces a non-commutative resolution of (a closed subscheme of) a weighted projective spa…
We show that there exists a Galois correspondence between subalgebras of an H-comodule algebra A over a base ring R and generalised quotients of a Hopf algebra H if both A and H are flat Mittag--Leffler modules. We also provide new criteria for subalgebras and generalised quotients to be closed elements of the Galois connection constructed. We generalise the Schauenburg theory of admissible objects to this more general context. Then we consider coextensions of H-module coalgebras. We construct a Galois connection for them and we prove that H-Galois coextensions are closed. We apply the results…
In this paper, we study transition matrices of PBW bases of the nilpotent subalgebra of quantum superalgebras associated with all possible Dynkin diagrams of type A and B in the case of rank 2 and 3, and examine relationships with three-dimensional (3D) integrability. We obtain new solutions to the Zamolodchikov tetrahedron equation via type A and the 3D reflection equation via type B, where the latter equation was proposed by Isaev and Kulish as a 3D analog of the reflection equation of Cherednik. As a by-product of our approach, the Bazhanov-Sergeev solution to the Zamolodchikov tetrahedron …
For a finite-dimensional simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, let $U^+_q(\mathfrak{g})$ be the positive part of the quantized universal enveloping algebra, and $A_q(\mathfrak{g})$ be the quantized algebra of functions. We show that the transition matrix of the PBW bases of $U^+_q(\mathfrak{g})$ coincides with the intertwiner between the irreducible $A_q(\mathfrak{g})$-modules labeled by two different reduced expressions of the longest element of the Weyl group of $\mathfrak{g}$. This generalizes the earlier result by Sergeev on $A_2$ related to the tetrahedron equation and endows a new represent…
The cusp was recently shown to admit the structure of a quantum homogeneous space, that is, its coordinate ring $B$ can be embedded as a right coideal subalgebra into a Hopf algebra $A$ such that $A$ is faithfully flat as a $B$-module. In the present article such a Hopf algebra $A$ is constructed for the coordinate ring $B$ of the nodal cubic, thus further motivating the question which affine varieties are quantum homogeneous spaces.
Let $P_J$ be the standard parabolic subgroup of $SL_n$ obtained by deleting a subset $J$ of negative simple roots, and let $P_J = L_JU_J$ be the standard Levi decomposition. Following work of the first author, we study the quantum analogue $θ: {\mathcal O}_q(P_J) \to{\mathcal O}_q(L_J) \otimes {\mathcal O}_q(P_J)$ of an induced coaction and the corresponding subalgebra ${\mathcal O}_q(P_J)^{\operatorname{co} θ} \subseteq {\mathcal O}_q(P_J)$ of coinvariants. It was shown that the smash product algebra ${\mathcal O}_q(L_J)\# {\mathcal O}_q(P_J)^{\operatorname{co} θ}$ is isomorphic to ${\mathcal…
