We study pseudoholomorphic discs with boundaries attached to a real hypersurface in an almost complex manifold of dimension 2. We prove that if the hypersurface contains no discs, then they fill a one sided neighborhood of the hypersurface.

Tangent and normal bundles in almost complex geometry

In this paper we define and study pseudoholomorphic vector bundles structures, particular cases of which are tangent and normal bundle almost complex structures. These are intrinsically related to the Gromov D-operator. As an application we deduce normal forms of 1-jets of almost complex structures along a submanifold. In dimension four we relate these normal forms to the problem of pseudoholomorphic foliation of a neighborhood of a curve and the question of non-deformation and persistence of pseudoholomorphic curves.

Regularity and estimates for $J$-holomorphic discs attached to a maximal totally real submanifold

We prove that pseudo-holomorphic discs attached to a maximal totally real submanifold inherit their regularity from the regularity of the submanifold and of the almost complex structure. The proof is based on the computation of an explicit lower bound for the Kobayashi metric in almost complex manifolds, which also yields explicit estimates of Hölderian norms of such discs.

We establish and study the link between the following 3 subjects: 1) topological properties of smooth families of attached analytic discs, the manifold $Ω$ admits, 2) lower bounds for dimensions of complex tangent spaces of $Ω$, 3) a generalization of the argument principle for smooth families of holomorphic mappings from the standard complex disc to $X$. This article mainly aims to overview the recent efforts on developing algebraic geometry for an arbitrary compact almost complex manifold. We review the results obtained by the guiding philosophy that a statement for smooth maps between smooth manifolds in terms of René Thom's transversality should also have its counterpart in pseudoholomorphic setting without requiring genericity of the almost complex structures. Characteristic foliations on maximally real submanifolds of C^n and envelopes of holomorphy

Let S be an arbitrary real surface, with or without boundary, contained in a hypersurface M of the complex euclidean space \C^2, with S and M of class C^{2, a}, where 0 < a < 1. If M is globally minimal, if S is totally real except at finitely many complex tangencies which are hyperbolic in the sense of E. Schwarz Reflection Principle, Boundary Regularity and Compactness for J-Complex Curves

We establish the Schwarz Reflection Principle for $J$-complex discs attached to a real analytic $J$-totally real submanifold of an almost complex manifold with real analytic $J$. We also prove the precise boundary regularity and derive the precise convergence in Gromov compactness theorem in $\calc^{k,α}$-classes.

Estimates of the Kobayashi metric on almost complex manifolds

We establish a lower estimate for the Kobayashi-Royden infinitesimal pseudometric on an almost complex manifold $(M,J)$ admitting a bounded strictly plurisubharmonic function. We apply this result to study the boundary behaviour of the metric on a strictly pseudoconvex domain in $M$ and to give a sufficient condition for the complete hyperbolicity of a domain in $(M,J)$. Finally we obtain the regularity up to the bounday of $J$-holomorphic discs attached to a totally real submanifold in $M$.
