The paper presents a factorization theorem for a certain class of stochastic processes. Skorohod spaces carry the rich structure of standard Borel spaces and appear to be suitable universal sample path spaces. We show that, if $ξ$ is a RCLL stochastic process with values in a complete separable metric space $E$, any other RCLL stochastic process $X$ adapted to the filtration induced by $ξ$ factors through the Skorohod space $D_E[0,\infty)$. This can be understood as an extension of a stochastic process to a standard Borel space enjoying nice properties. Moreover, the trajectories of the factorized stochastic process defined on $D_E[0,\infty)$ inherit the properties of being continuous, non-decreasing, and of bounded variation, resp., from those of $X$.
Considering situations which are invariant under the factorization procedure, the main theorem is a reduction tool to assume the underlying measurable space be a standard Borel space. In an example, we pick the existence theorem of regular conditional probabilities on standard Borel spaces to simplify a conditional expectation appearing in stochastic control problems.
Here we study stochastic differential equations with a reflecting boundary condition. We provide sufficient conditions for pathwise uniqueness and non-explosion property of solutions in a framework admitting non-Lipschitz continuous coefficients and non-smooth domains.
We go ahead with the study initiated in [3] about a heat-equation model with non-linear perturbation driven by a space-time fractional noise. Using general results from Hairer's theory of regularity structures, the analysis reduces to the construction of a so-called K-rough path (above the noise), a notion we introduce here as a compromise between regularity structures formalism and rough paths theory. The exhibition of such a K-rough path at order three allows us to cover the whole roughness domain that extends up to the standard space-time white noise situation. We also provide a representat…
Let B(t), X(t) and Y(t) be independent standard 1d Borwnian motions. Define X^+(t) and Y^-(t) as the trajectories of the processes X(t) and Y(t) pushed upwards and, respectively, downwards by B(t), according to Skorohod-reflection. In a recent paper, Jon Warren proves inter alia that Z(t):= X^+(t)-Y^-(t) is a three-dimensional Bessel-process. In this note, we present an alternative, elementary proof of this fact.
Given a Gaussian process $X$, its canonical geometric rough path lift $\mathbf{X}$, and a solution $Y$ to the rough differential equation (RDE) $\mathrm{d}Y_{t} = V\left (Y_{t}\right ) \circ \mathrm{d} \mathbf{X}_t$, we present a closed-form correction formula for $\int Y \circ \mathrm{d} \mathbf{X} - \int Y \, \mathrm{d} X$, i.e. the difference between the rough and Skorohod integrals of $Y$ with respect to $X$. When $X$ is standard Brownian motion, we recover the classical Stratonovich-to-It{ô} conversion formula, which we generalize to Gaussian rough paths with finite $p$-variation, $p < 3$…
Given a continuous Gaussian process $x$ which gives rise to a $p$-geometric rough path for $p\in (2,3)$, and a general continuous process $y$ controlled by $x$, under proper conditions we establish the relationship between the Skorohod integral $\int_0^t y_s {\mathrm{d}}^\diamond x_s$ and the Stratonovich integral $\int_0^t y_s {\mathrm{d}} {\mathbf x}_s$. Our strategy is to employ the tools from rough paths theory and Malliavin calculus to analyze discrete sums of the integrals.
In this article, we derive a Stratonovich and Skorohod type change of variables formula for a multidimensional Gaussian process with low Hölder regularity (typically lower than 1/4). To this aim, we combine tools from rough paths theory and stochastic analysis.
Given a solution $Y$ to a rough differential equation (RDE), a recent result [8] extends the classical Itö-Stratonovich formula and provides a closed-form expression for $\int Y \circ \mathrm{d} \mathbf{X} - \int Y \, \mathrm{d} X$, i.e. the difference between the rough and Skorohod integrals of $Y$ with respect to $X$, where $X$ is a Gaussian process with finite $p$-variation less than 3. In this paper, we extend this result to Gaussian processes with finite $p$-variation such that $3 \leq p < 4$. The constraint this time is that we restrict ourselves to Volterra Gaussian processes with kerne…
The $h$-trimming of a tree is a natural regularization procedure which consists in pruning the small branches of a tree: given $h\geq0$, it is obtained by only keeping the vertices having at least one leaf above them at a distance greater or equal to $h$. The $h$-cut of a function $f$ is the function of minimal total variation uniformly approximating the increments of $f$ with accuracy $h$, and can be explicitly constructed via the two-sided Skorohod reflection of $f$ on the interval $[0,h]$. In this work, we show that the contour path of the $h$-trimming of a rooted real tree is given by the …
In this article, we introduce the space $D([0,1];D)$ of functions defined on $[0,1]$ with values in the Skorohod space $D$, which are right-continuous and have left limits with respect to the $J_1$ topology. This space is equipped with the Skorohod-type distance introduced in Whitt (1980). Following the classical approach of Billingsley (1968, 1999), we give several criteria for tightness of probability measures on this space, by characterizing the relatively compact subsets of this space. In particular, one of these criteria has been used in the recent article Balan and Saidani (2018) for pro…
We develop a stochastic analysis for a Gaussian process $X$ with singular covariance by an intrinsic procedure focusing on several examples such as covariance measure structure processes, bifractional Brownian motion, processes with stationary increments. We introduce some new spaces associated with the self-reproducing kernel space and we define the Paley-Wiener integral of first and second order even when $X$ is only a square integrable process continuous in $L^2$. If $X$ has stationary increments, we provide necessary and sufficient conditions so that its paths belong to the self-reproducin…
The continuous time random walks (CTRWs) are typically defned in the way that their trajectories are discontinuous step fuctions. This may be a unwellcome feature from the point of view of application of theese processes to model certain physical phenomena. In this article we propose alternative definition of continuous time random walks with continuous trajectories. We also give the functional limit theorem for sequence of such random walks. This result requires the use of strong Skorohod M1 topology instead of Skorohod J1 topology, which is usually used in limit theorems for ordinary CTRW pr…
Let $X_n$ be independent random elements in the Skorohod space $D([0,1];E)$ of càdlàg functions taking values in a separable Banach space $E$. Let $S_n=\sum_{j=1}^nX_j$. We show that if $S_n$ converges in finite dimensional distributions to a càdlàg process, then $S_n+y_n$ converges a.s. pathwise uniformly over $[0,1]$, for some $y_n\in D([0,1];E)$. This result extends the Itô-Nisio theorem to the space $D([0,1];E)$, which is surprisingly lacking in the literature even for $E=R$. The main difficulties of dealing with $D([0,1];E)$ in this context are its nonseparability under the uniform norm a…
We review and extend Lindsay's work on abstract gradient and divergence operators in Fock space over a general complex Hilbert space. Precise expressions for the domains are given, the $L^2$-equivalence of norms is proved and an abstract version of the Itô-Skorohod isometry is established. We then outline a new proof of Itô's chaos expansion of complex Lévy-Itô space in terms of multiple Wiener-Lévy integrals based on Brownian motion and a compensated Poisson random measure. The duality transform now identifies Lévy-Itô space as a Fock space. We can then easily obtain key properties of the gra…
In this paper we study the Malliavin derivatives and Skorohod integrals for processes taking values in an infinite dimensional space. Such results are motivated by their applications to SPDEs and in particular financial mathematics. Vector-valued Malliavin theory in Banach space E is naturally restricted to spaces E which have the so-called UMD property, which arises in harmonic analysis and stochastic integration theory. We provide several new results and tools for the Malliavin derivatives and Skorohod integrals in an infinite dimensional setting. In particular, we prove weak characterizatio…
We provide a detailed analysis of the Gelfand integral on Fréchet spaces, showing among other things a Vitali theorem, dominated convergence and a Fubini result. Furthermore, the Gelfand integral commutes with linear operators. The Skorohod integral is conveniently expressed in terms of a Gelfand integral on Hida distribution space, which forms our prime motivation and example. We extend several results of Skorohod integrals to a general class of pathwise Gelfand integrals. For example, we provide generalizations of the Hida-Malliavin derivative and extend the integration-by-parts formula in M…
For any real-valued stochastic process $X$ with cŕdlŕg paths we define non-empty family of processes which have locally finite total variation, have jumps of the same order as the process $X$ and uniformly approximate its paths on compacts. The application of the defined class is the definition of stochastic integral with semimartingale integrand and integrator as a limit of pathwise Lebesgue-Stieltjes integrals. This construction leads to the stochastic integral with some correction term (different from the Stratonovich integral). We compare the obtained result with classical results of Wong-…
This paper provides convergence analysis for the approximation of a class of path-dependent functionals underlying a continuous stochastic process. In the first part, given a sequence of weak convergent processes, we provide a sufficient condition for the convergence of the path-dependent functional underlying weak convergent processes to the functional of the original process. In the second part, we study the weak convergence of Markov chain approximation to the underlying process when it is given by a solution of stochastic differential equation. Finally, we combine the results of the two pa…
In this paper, we discuss exponential mixing property for Markovian semigroups generated by segment processes associated with several class of retarded Stochastic Differential Equations (SDEs) which cover SDEs with constant/variable/distributed time-lags. In particular, we investigate the exponential mixing property for (a) non-autonomous retarded SDEs by the Arzelà--Ascoli tightness characterization of the space $\C$ equipped with the uniform topology (b) neutral SDEs with continuous sample paths by a generalized Razumikhin-type argument and a stability-in-distribution approach and (c) jump-d…
In this article, we study the stochastic wave equation in arbitrary spatial dimension $d$, with a multiplicative term of the form $σ(u)=u$, also known in the literature as the Hyperbolic Anderson Model. This equation is perturbed by a general Gaussian noise, which is homogeneous in both space and time. We prove the existence and uniqueness of a solution of this equation (in the Skorohod sense) and the Hölder continuity of its sample paths, under the same respective conditions on the spatial spectral measure of the noise as in the case of the white noise in time, regardless of the temporal cova…
The goal of this paper is to investigate the tools of extreme value theory originally introduced for discrete time stationary stochastic processes (time series), namely the tail process and the tail measure, in the framework of continuous time stochastic processes with paths in the space $\mathcal{D}$ of càdlàg functions indexed by $\mathbb{R}$, endowed with Skorohod's $J_1$ topology. We prove that the essential properties of these objects are preserved, with some minor (though interesting) differences arising. We first obtain structural results which provide representation for homogeneous shi…
Lyons' Rough Path theory is currently formulated in p-variation topology. We extend his main-result, the Universal Limit Theorem, to a stronger Hoelder topology. Several approximations to Brownian Rough Paths are studied. As application of our approach, we obtain the celebrated support theorem (in Hoelder-topology) as immediate (!) corollary.
Consider a family of portfolio strategies with the aim of achieving the asymptotic growth rate of the best one. The idea behind Cover's universal portfolio is to build a wealth-weighted average which can be viewed as a buy-and-hold portfolio of portfolios. When an optimal portfolio exists, the wealth-weighted average converges to it by concentration of wealth. Working under a discrete time and pathwise setup, we show under suitable conditions that the distribution of wealth in the family satisfies a pathwise large deviation principle as time tends to infinity. Our main result extends Cover's p…
