We construct certain tensor categories that are dominated by finitely many simple objects. Objects in these categories are modules over rings of algebra integers. We show how to obtain TQFTs defined over algebra integers from these categories.
Almost integral TQFTs were introduced by Gilmer [Duke Math. J. 125 (2004) 389--413]. The aim of this paper is to modify the TQFT of the category of extended 3-cobordisms given by Turaev (in his book: Quantum invariants of knots and 3-manifolds) to obtain an almost integral TQFT.
We construct integral bases for the SO(3)-TQFT-modules of surfaces in genus one and two at roots of unity of prime order and show that the corresponding mapping class group representations preserve a unimodular Hermitian form over a ring of algebraic integers. For higher genus surfaces the Hermitian form sometimes must be non-unimodular. In one such case, genus 3 and p=5, we still give an explicit basis.
We give new explicit formulas for the representations of the mapping class group of a genus one surface with one boundary component which arise from Integral TQFT. Our formulas allow one to compute the h-adic expansion of the TQFT-matrix associated to a mapping class in a straightforward way. Truncating the h-adic expansion gives an approximation of the representation by representations into finite groups. We discuss ways that the ring of coefficients for a TQFT can be reduced if one restricts somewhat the allowed cobordisms. When we apply these methods to a TQFT associated to SO(3) at an odd prime p, we obtain a functor from a somewhat restricted cobordism category to the category of free finitely generated modules over a ring of cyclotomic integers :Z [zeta_{2p}], if p \equiv -1 mod{4}, and Z [zeta_{4p}], if p \equiv 1 \pmod{4}, where zeta_k is a primitive kth root of unity. We find decomposition series of length at most two for modular representations in positive characteristic of mapping class groups of surfaces induced by an integral version of the Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev SO(3)-TQFT at the p-th root of unity, where p is an odd prime. The dimensions of the irreducible factors are given by Verlinde-type formulas.
In this paper, we examine Kitaev's lattice model for an arbitrary complex, semisimple Hopf algebra. We prove that this model gives the same topological invariants as Turaev-Viro theory. Using the description of Turaev-Viro theory as an extended TQFT, we prove that the excited states of the Kitaev model correspond to Turaev-Viro theory on a surface with boundary.

In this paper, we prove that for any odd prime larger than 3, the modular group representation associated to the SO$(p)_2$-TQFT can be defined over the ring of integers of a cyclotomic field. We will provide explicit integral bases. In the last section, we will relate these representations to the Weil representations over finite fields.
We construct families of TQFT's over the finite field Z/pZ starting from an integral TQFT obtained by Frohman and Nicas. These TQFT's are likely to describe the constant order contributions of the cyclotomic integer expansions of the Reshetikhin Turaev Ohtsuki theories. We study lattice constructions of gapped fermionic phases of matter. We revisit the construction of integral forms for vertex (operator) algebras $V_L$ based on even lattices $L$ using generators instead of bases, and we construct integral forms for $V_L$-modules.
