We survey the geometry of Lagrange and Finsler spaces and discuss the issues related to the definition of curvature of nonholonomic manifolds enabled with nonlinear connection structure. It is proved that any commutative Riemannian geometry (in general, any Riemann--Cartan space) defined by a generic off--diagonal metric structure (with an additional affine connection possessing nontrivial torsion) is equivalent to a generalized Lagrange, or Finsler, geometry modeled on nonholonomic manifolds. This results in the problem of constructing noncommutative geometries with local anisotropy, in particular, related to geometrization of classical and quantum mechanical and field theories, even if we restrict our considerations only to commutative and noncommutative Riemannian spaces. We elaborate a geometric approach to the Clifford modules adapted to nonlinear connections, to the theory of spinors and the Dirac operators on nonholonomic spaces and consider possible generalizations to noncommutative geometry. We argue that any commutative
Riemann--Finsler geometry and generalizations my be derived from noncommutative geometry by applying certain methods elaborated for Riemannian spaces but extended to nonholonomic frame transforms and manifolds provided with nonlinear connection structure.
In this paper, it is elaborated the theory the Ricci flows for manifolds enabled with nonintegrable (nonholonomic) distributions defining nonlinear connection structures. Such manifolds provide a unified geometric arena for nonholonomic Riemannian spaces, Lagrange mechanics, Finsler geometry, and various models of gravity (the Einstein theory and string, or gauge, generalizations). We follow the method of nonholonomic frames with associated nonlinear connection structure and define certain classes of nonholonomic constraints on Riemann manifolds for which various types of generalized Finsler g…
We elaborate an unified geometric approach to classical mechanics, Riemann-Finsler spaces and gravity theories on Lie algebroids provided with nonlinear connection (N-connection) structure. There are investigated the conditions when the fundamental geometric objects like the anchor, metric and linear connection, almost sympletic and related almost complex structures may be canonically defined by a N-connection induced from a regular Lagrangian (or Hamiltonian), in mechanical models, or by generic off-diagonal metric terms and nonholonomic frames, in gravity theories. Such geometric constructio…
We formulate a statistical analogy of regular Lagrange mechanics and Finsler geometry derived from Grisha Perelman's functionals generalized for nonholonomic Ricci flows. There are elaborated explicit constructions when nonholonomically constrained flows of Riemann metrics result in Finsler like configurations, and inversely, and geometric mechanics is modelled on Riemann spaces with preferred nonholonomic frame structure.
The geometry of nonholonomic bundle gerbes, provided with nonlinear connection structure, and nonholonomic gerbe modules is elaborated as the theory of Clifford modules on nonholonomic manifolds which positively fail to be spin. We explore an approach to such nonholonomic Dirac operators and derive the related Atiyah-Singer index formulas. There are considered certain applications in modern gravity and geometric mechanics of such Clifford-Lagrange/ Finsler gerbes and their realizations as nonholonomic Clifford and Riemann-Cartan modules.
We study stationary configurations mimicking nonholonomic locally anisotropic black rings (for instance, with ellipsoidal polarizations and/or imbedded into solitonic backgrounds) in three/six dimensional pseudo-Finsler/ Riemannian spacetimes. In the asymptotically flat limit, for holonomic configurations, a subclass of such spacetimes contains the set of five dimensional black ring solutions with regular rotating event horizon. For corresponding parameterizations, the metrics and connections define Finsler-Einstein geometries modeled on tangent bundles, or on nonholonomic (pseudo) Riemannian …
We propose a new framework for constructing geometric and physical models on nonholonomic manifolds provided both with Clifford -- Lie algebroid symmetry and nonlinear connection structure. Explicit parametrizations of generic off-diagonal metrics and linear and nonlinear connections define different types of Finsler, Lagrange and/or Riemann-Cartan spaces. A generalization to spinor fields and Dirac operators on nonholonomic manifolds motivates the theory of Clifford algebroids defined as Clifford bundles, in general, enabled with nonintegrable distributions defining the nonlinear connection. …
In this paper we examine a new class of five dimensional (5D) exact solutions in extra dimension gravity possessing Lie algebroid symmetry. The constructions provide a motivation for the theory of Clifford nonholonomic algebroids elaborated in Ref. hep-th/0501217. Such Einstein-Dirac spacetimes are parametrized by generic off--diagonal metrics and nonholonomic frames (vielbeins) with associated nonlinear connection structure. They describe self-consistent propagations of (3D) Dirac wave packets in 5D nonholonomically deformed Taub NUT spacetimes and have two physically distinct properties: Fis…
We model pseudo-Finsler geometries, with pseudo-Euclidean signatures of metrics, for two classes of four dimensional nonholonomic manifolds: a) tangent bundles with two dimensional base manifolds and b) pseudo-Riemannian/ Einstein manifolds. Such spacetimes are enabled with nonholonomic distributions and associated nonlinear connection structures and theirs metrics are solutions of the field equations in general relativity or in generalized gravity theories with nonholonomic variables. We rewrite the Schwarzschild metric in Finsler variables and use it for generating new classes of locally ani…
We formulate an approach to the geometry of Riemann-Cartan spaces provided with nonholonomic distributions defined by generic off-diagonal and nonsymmetric metrics inducing effective nonlinear and affine connections. Such geometries can be modelled by moving nonholonomic frames on (pseudo) Riemannian manifolds and describe various types of nonholonomic Einstein, Eisenhart-Moffat and Finsler-Lagrange spaces with connections compatible to a general nonsymmetric metric structure. Elaborating a metrization procedure for arbitrary distinguished connections, we define the class of distinguished line…
In this summary of Habilitation Thesis, it is outlined author's 18 years research activity on mathematical physics, geometric methods in particle physics and gravity, modifications and applications (after defending his PhD thesis in 1994). Ten most relevant publications are structured conventionally into three "strategic directions": 1) nonholonomic geometric flows evolutions and exact solutions for Ricci solitons and field equations in (modified) gravity theories; 2) geometric methods in quantization of models with nonlinear dynamics and anisotropic field interactions; 3) (non) commutative ge…
The notions of the interior and truncated connections of a nonholonomic manifold are introduced. A class of extended truncated connections is distinguished. For the case of a contact space with a Finsler metric, it is shown that there exists a unique extended truncated connection that satisfies additional properties. The curvature tensor of the obtained connection in the case of a sub-Riemannian space coincides with the Wagner curvature tensor that was constructed by Wagner for the case of an arbitrary nonholonomic manifold of codimension one endowed with an interior affine connection.
We study Finsler black holes induced from Einstein gravity as possible effects of quantum spacetime noncommutativity. Such Finsler models are defined by nonholonomic frames not on tangent bundles but on (pseudo) Riemannian manifolds being compatible with standard theories of physics. We focus on noncommutative deformations of Schwarzschild metrics into locally anisotropic stationary ones with spherical/rotoid symmetry. There are derived the conditions when black hole configurations can be extracted from two classes of exact solutions depending on noncommutative parameters. The first class of m…
The book contains a collection of works on Riemann-Cartan and metric-affine manifolds provided with nonlinear connection structure and on generalized Finsler-Lagrange and Cartan-Hamilton geometries and Clifford structures modelled on such manifolds. The choice of material presented has evolved from various applications in modern gravity and geometric mechanics and certain generalizations to noncommutative Riemann-Finsler geometry. The authors develop and use the method of anholonomic frames with associated nonlinear connection structure and apply it to a number of concrete problems: constructi…
Methods in Riemann-Finsler geometry are applied to investigate bi-Hamiltonian structures and related mKdV hierarchies of soliton equations derived geometrically from regular Lagrangians and flows of non-stretching curves in tangent bundles. The total space geometry and nonholonomic flows of curves are defined by Lagrangian semisprays inducing canonical nonlinear connections (N-connections), Sasaki type metrics and linear connections. The simplest examples of such geometries are given by tangent bundles on Riemannian symmetric spaces $G/SO(n)$ provided with an N-connection structure and an adap…
In this work we investigate Ricci flows of almost Kaehler structures on Lie algebroids when the fundamental geometric objects are completely determined by (semi) Riemannian metrics, or effective) regular generating Lagrange/ Finsler, functions. There are constructed canonical almost symplectic connections for which the geometric flows can be represented as gradient ones and characterized by nonholonomic deformations of Grigory Perelman's functionals. The first goal of this paper is to define such thermodynamical type values and derive almost Kähler - Ricci geometric evolution equations. The se…
The geometric constructions are elaborated on (semi) Riemannian manifolds and vector bundles provided with nonintegrable distributions defining nonlinear connection structures induced canonically by metric tensors. Such spaces are called nonholonomic manifolds and described by two equivalent linear connections also induced in unique forms by a metric tensor (the Levi Civita and the canonical distinguished connection, d-connection). The lifts of geometric objects on tangent bundles are performed for certain classes of d-connections and frame transforms when the Riemann tensor is parametrized by…
An isometry of a Finsler space is called Clifford-Wolf translation (CW-translation) if it moves all points the same distance. A Finsler space $(M, F)$ is called Clifford-Wolf homogeneous (CW-homogeneous) if for any $x, y\in M$ there is a CW-translation $σ$ such that $σ(x)=y$. We prove that if $F$ is a homogeneous Finsler metric on the sphere $S^n$ such that $(S^n, F)$ is CW-homogeneous, then $F$ must be a Randers metric. This gives a complete classification of CW-homogeneous Finsler metrics on spheres.
In this paper, we study Clifford-Wolf translations of Finsler spaces. We first give a characterization of Clifford-Wolf translations of Finsler spaces in terms of Killing vector fields. In particular, we show that there is a natural correspondence between Clifford-Wolf translations and the Killing vector fields of constant length. In the special case of homogeneous Randers spaces, we give some explicit sufficient and necessary conditions for an isometry to be a Clifford-Wolf translation. Finally, we construct some explicit examples to explain some of the results of this paper.
This paper has been withdrawn by the author due to a crucial sign error in equation 1. An isometry $ρ$ of a connected Finsler space $(M, F)$ is called bounded if the function $d(x, ρ(x))$ is bounded on $M$. It is called a Clifford-Wolf translation if the function $d(x, ρ(x))$ is constant on $M$. In this paper, we prove that on a complete connected simply connected Finsler space of non-positive flag curvature, an isometry is bounded if and only if it is a Clifford-Wolf translation. As an application, we prove that a homogeneous Finsler space of negative flag curvature admits a transitive solvab…
This is the second paper in a series of works devoted to nonholonomic Ricci flows. By imposing non-integrable (nonholonomic) constraints on the Ricci flows of Riemannian metrics we can model mutual transforms of generalized Finsler-Lagrange and Riemann geometries. We verify some assertions made in the first partner paper and develop a formal scheme in which the geometric constructions with Ricci flow evolution are elaborated for canonical nonlinear and linear connection structures. This scheme is applied to a study of Hamilton's Ricci flows on nonholonomic manifolds and related Einstein spaces…
A consistent theory of quantum gravity (QG) at Planck scale almost sure contains manifestations of Lorentz local symmetry violations (LV) which may be detected at observable scales. This can be effectively described and classified by models with nonlinear dispersions and related Finsler metrics and fundamental geometric objects (nonlinear and linear connections) depending on velocity/ momentum variables. We prove that the trapping brane mechanism provides an accurate description of gravitational and matter field phenomena with LV over a wide range of distance scales and recovering in a systema…
Let $(M,F)$ be a connected Finsler space and $d$ the distance function of $(M,F)$. A Clifford translation is an isometry $ρ$ of $(M,F)$ of constant displacement, in other words such that $d(x,ρ(x))$ is a constant function on $M$. In this paper we consider a connected simply connected symmetric Finsler space and a discrete subgroup $Γ$ of the full group of isometries. We prove that the quotient manifold $(M, F)/Γ$ is a homogeneous Finsler space if and only if $Γ$ consists of Clifford translations of $(M,F)$. In the process of the proof of the main theorem, we classify all the Clifford translati…
A Clifford-Wolf translation of a connected Finsler space is an isometry which moves each point the same distance. A Finsler space $(M, F)$ is called Clifford-Wolf homogeneous if for any two points $x_1, x_2\in M$ there is a Clifford-Wolf translation $ρ$ such that $ρ(x_1)=x_2$. In this paper, we give a complete classification of connected simply connected Clifford-Wolf homogeneous Randers spaces.
A Clifford-Wolf translation of a connected Finsler space is an isometry which moves each point the sam distance. A Finsler space $(M, F)$ is called Clifford-Wolf homogeneous if for any two point $x_1, x_2\in M$ there is a Clifford-Wolf translation $ρ$ such that $ρ(x_1)=x_2$. In this paper, we study Clifford-Wolf translations of left invariant Randers metrics on compact Lie groups. The mian result is that a left invariant Randers metric on a connected compact simple Lie group is Clifford-Wolf homogeneous if and only if the indicatrix of the metric is a round sphere with respect to a bi-invarian…
We present an introduction to the geometry of higher order vector and co--vector bundles (including higher order generalizations of the Finsler geometry and Kaluza--Klein gravity) and review the basic results on Clifford and spinor structures on spaces with generic local anisotropy modeled by higher order nonlinear connections. Geometric applications in locally anisotropic gravity and matter field interactions are considered. This article contains a part of material given by these authors and P. Stavrinos in theirs lectures.
In this paper, we introduce a new type of Finsler metrics, called $(α_1,α_2)$-metrics. We define the notion of the good datum of a homogeneous $(α_1,α_2)$-metric and use that to study the geometric properties. In particular, we give a formula of the S-curvature and deduce a condition for the S-curvature to be vanishing identically. Moreover, we consider the restrictive Clifford-Wolf homogeneity of left invariant $(α_1,α_2)$-metrics on compact connected simple Lie groups. We prove that, in some special cases, a restrictively Clifford-Wolf homogeneous $(α_1,α_2)$-metric must be Riemannian. An un…
The goal of this paper is to encode equivalently the fractional Lagrange dynamics as a nonholonomic almost Kahler geometry. We use the fractional Caputo derivative generalized for nontrivial nonlinear connections (N-connections) originally introduced in Finsler geometry, with further developments in Lagrange and Hamilton geometry and, in our approach, with fractional derivatives. For fundamental geometric objects induced canonically by regular Lagrange functions, we construct compatible almost symplectic forms and linear connections completely determined by a "prime" Lagrange (in particular, F…
Let $(M,F)$ be a connected Finsler space. An isometry of $(M,F)$ is called a Clifford-Wolf translation (or simply CW-translation) if it moves all points the same distance. The compact Finsler space $(M,F)$ is called restrictively Clifford-Wolf homogeneous (restrictively CW-homogeneous) if for any two sufficiently close points $x_1,x_2\in M$, there exists a CW-translation $σ$ such that $σ(x_1)=x_2$. In this paper, we define the good normalized datum for a homogeneous non-Riemannian $(α,β)$-space, and use it to study the restrictive CW-homogeneity of left invariant $(α,β)$-metrics on a compact c…
We present an introduction to the geometry of higher order vector and co-vector bundles (including higher order generalizations of the Finsler geometry and Kaluza--Klein gravity) and review the basic results on Clifford and spinor structures on spaces with generic local anisotropy modeled by anholonomic frames with associated nonlinear connection structures. We emphasize strong arguments for application of Finsler like geometries in modern string and gravity theory and noncommutative geometry and noncommutative field theory and gravity.
Methods from the geometry of nonholonomic manifolds and Lagrange-Finsler spaces are applied in fractional calculus with Caputo derivatives and for elaborating models of fractional gravity and fractional Lagrange mechanics. The geometric data for such models are encoded into (fractional) bi-Hamiltonian structures and associated solitonic hierarchies. The constructions yield horizontal/vertical pairs of fractional vector sine-Gordon equations and fractional vector mKdV equations when the hierarchies for corresponding curve fractional flows are described in explicit forms by fractional wave maps …
We review the geometric setting of the field theory with locally anisotropic interactions. The concept of locally anisotropic space is introduced as a general one for various type of extensions of Lagrange and Finsler geometry and higher dimension (Kaluza--Klein type) spaces. The problem of definition of spinors on generalized Finsler spaces is solved in the framework of the geometry of Clifford bundles provided with compatible nonlinear and distinguished connections and metric structures. We construct the spinor differential geometry of locally anisotropic spaces and discuss some related issu…
Curves in Lagrange Grassmannians appear naturally in the intrinsic study of geometric structures on manifolds. By a smooth geometric structure on a manifold we mean any submanifold of its tangent bundle, transversal to the fibers. One can consider the time-optimal problem naturally associate with a geometric structure. The Pontryagin extremals of this optimal problem are integral curves of certain Hamiltonian system in the cotangent bundle. The dynamics of the fibers of the cotangent bundle w.r.t. this system along an extremal is described by certain curve in a Lagrange Grassmannian, called Ja…
In this paper we give an explicit description of the bounded displacement isometries of a class of spaces that includes the Riemannian nilmanifolds. The class of spaces consists of metric spaces (and thus includes Finsler manifolds) on which an exponential solvable Lie group acts transitively by isometries. The bounded isometries are proved to be of constant displacement. Their characterization gives further evidence for the author's 1962 conjecture on homogeneous Riemannian quotient manifolds. That conjecture suggests that if $Γ\backslash M$ is a Riemannian quotient of a connected simply conn…
We present a geometric approach to the field theory with higher order anisotropic interactions. The concepts of higher order space, or locally anisotropic, space (in brief, h-space, or la-space) are introduced as general ones for various types of higher order extensions of Lagrange and Finsler geometry and higher dimension (Kaluza-Klein type) spaces. The spinors on h-spaces are defined in the framework of the geometry of Clifford bundles provided with compatible nonlinear and distinguished connections and metric structures (d-connection and d-metric). There are discussed some related issues co…
