The main goal of this paper is to answer question 1.10 and settle conjecture 1.11 of Benjamini-Lyons-Schramm [BLS99] relating harmonic Dirichlet functions on a graph to those of the infinite clusters in the uniqueness phase of Bernoulli percolation. We extend the result to more general invariant percolations, including the Random-Cluster model. We prove the existence of the nonuniqueness phase for the Bernoulli percolation (and make some progress for Random-Cluster model) on unimodular transitive locally finite graphs admitting nonconstant harmonic Dirichlet functions. This is done by using the device of $\ell^2$ Betti numbers.
We show that on a Cayley graph of a nonamenable group, almost surely the infinite clusters of Bernoulli percolation are transient for simple random walk, that simple random walk on these clusters has positive speed, and that these clusters admit bounded harmonic functions. A principal new finding on which these results are based is that such clusters admit invariant random subgraphs with positive isoperimetric constant. We also show that percolation clusters in any amenable Cayley graph almost surely admit no nonconstant harmonic Dirichlet functions. Conversely, on a Cayley graph admitting non…
Benjamini and Schramm (1996) used circle packing to prove that every transient, bounded degree planar graph admits non-constant harmonic functions of finite Dirichlet energy. We refine their result, showing in particular that for every transient, bounded degree, simple planar triangulation $T$ and every circle packing of $T$ in a domain $D$, there is a canonical, explicit bounded linear isomorphism between the space of harmonic Dirichlet functions on $T$ and the space of harmonic Dirichlet functions on $D$.
We present an efficient algorithm to solve elliptic Dirichlet problems defined on the cluster of $\mathbb{Z}^d$ supercritical Bernoulli percolation, as a generalization of the iterative method proposed by S. Armstrong, A. Hannukainen, T. Kuusi and J.-C. Mourrat. We also explore the two-scale expansion on the infinite cluster of percolation, and use it to give a rigorous analysis of the algorithm.
Bond-percolation graphs are random subgraphs of the d-dimensional integer lattice generated by a standard bond-percolation process. The associated graph Laplacians, subject to Dirichlet or Neumann conditions at cluster boundaries, represent bounded, self-adjoint, ergodic random operators with off-diagonal disorder. They possess almost surely the non-random spectrum [0,4d] and a self-averaging integrated density of states. The integrated density of states is shown to exhibit Lifshits tails at both spectral edges in the non-percolating phase. While the characteristic exponent of the Lifshits tai…
We study harmonic functions for general Dirichlet forms. First we review consequences of Fukushima's ergodic theorem for the harmonic functions in the domain of the $ L^{p} $ generator. Secondly we prove analogues of Yau's and Karp's Liouville theorems for weakly harmonic functions. Both say that weakly harmonic functions which satisfy certain $ L^{p} $ growth criteria must be constant. As consequence we give an integral criterion for recurrence.
We investigate Laplacians on supercritical bond-percolation graphs with different boundary conditions at cluster borders. The integrated density of states of the Dirichlet Laplacian is found to exhibit a Lifshits tail at the lower spectral edge, while that of the Neumann Laplacian shows a van Hove asymptotics, which results from the percolating cluster. At the upper spectral edge, the behaviour is reversed.
We establish quantitative homogenization, large-scale regularity and Liouville results for the random conductance model on a supercritical (Bernoulli bond) percolation cluster. The results are also new in the case that the conductivity is constant on the cluster. The argument passes through a series of renormalization steps: first, we use standard percolation results to find a large scale above which the geometry of the percolation cluster behaves (in a sense made precise) like that of Euclidean space. Then, following the work of Barlow, we find a succession of larger scales on which certain f…
For a general class of percolation models with long-range correlations on $\mathbb Z^d$, $d\geq 2$, introduced in arXiv:1212.2885, we establish regularity conditions of Barlow arXiv:math/0302004 that mesoscopic subballs of all large enough balls in the unique infinite percolation cluster have regular volume growth and satisfy a weak Poincaré inequality. As immediate corollaries, we deduce quenched heat kernel bounds, parabolic Harnack inequality, and finiteness of the dimension of harmonic functions with at most polynomial growth. Heat kernel bounds and the quenched invariance principle of arX…
We consider the simple random walk on the (unique) infinite cluster of super-critical bond percolation in $\Z^d$ with $d\ge2$. We prove that, for almost every percolation configuration, the path distribution of the walk converges weakly to that of non-degenerate, isotropic Brownian motion. Our analysis is based on the consideration of a harmonic deformation of the infinite cluster on which the random walk becomes a square-integrable martingale. The size of the deformation, expressed by the so called corrector, is estimated by means of ergodicity arguments.

Let $ψ:{\mathcal{D}}\rightarrow{\mathbf{R}}$ be a harmonic function such that $Δψ(x)=0$ for all $x\in\mathcal{D}\subset{\mathbf{R}}^{n}$. There are then many well-established classical results:the Dirichlet problem and Poisson formula, Harnack inequality, the Maximum Principle, the Mean Value Property etc. Here, a 'noisy' or random domain is one for which there also exists a classical scalar Gaussian random field (GRF) ${\mathscr{J}(x)}$ defined for all $x\in{\mathcal{D}}$ or $x\in\partial {\mathcal{D}}$ with respect to a probability space $[Ω,\mathcal{F},{\mathrm{I\!P}}]$. The GRF has vanishi…
For a sufficiently regular open bounded set $D \subset R^2$ let us consider the equation $(-Δ)^{1/2} φ(x) = 1$, $x \in D$ with the Dirichlet exterior condition $φ(x) = 0$, $x \in D^c$. $φ$ is the expected value of the first exit time from $D$ of the Cauchy process in $R^2$. We prove that if $D \subset R^2$ is a convex bounded domain then $φ$ is concave on $D$. To show it we study the Hessian matrix of the harmonic extension of $φ$. The key idea of the proof is based on a deep result of Hans Lewy concerning determinants of Hessian matrices of harmonic functions.
We introduce a strengthening of the notion of transience for planar maps in order to relax the standard condition of bounded degree appearing in various results, in particular, the existence of Dirichlet harmonic functions proved by Benjamini and Schramm. As a corollary we obtain that every planar non-amenable graph admits Dirichlet harmonic functions.
Let $(U_t)_{t \geq 0}$ be a Brownian motion valued in the complex projective space $\mathbb{C}P^{N-1}$. Using unitary spherical harmonics of homogeneous degree zero, we derive the densities of $|U_t^{1}|^2$ and of $(|U_t^{1}|^2, |U_t^2|^2)$, and express them through Jacobi polynomials in the simplices of $\mathbb{R}$ and $\mathbb{R}^2$ respectively. More generally, the distribution of $(|U_t^{1}|^2, \dots, |U_t^k|^2), 2 \leq k \leq N-1$ may be derived using the decomposition of the unitary spherical harmonics under the action of the unitary group $\mathcal{U}(N-k+1)$ yet computations become te…
We propose a systematic construction of signed harmonic functions for discrete Laplacian operators with Dirichlet conditions in the quarter plane. In particular, we prove that the set of harmonic functions is an algebra generated by a single element, which conjecturally corresponds to the unique positive harmonic function.
We study harmonic functions on random environments with particular emphasis on the case of the infinite cluster of supercritical percolation on $\mathbb{Z}^d$. We prove that the vector space of harmonic functions growing at most linearly is $(d+1)$-dimensional almost surely. Further, there are no nonconstant sublinear harmonic functions (thus implying the uniqueness of the corrector). A main ingredient of the proof is a quantitative, annealed version of the Avez entropy argument. This also provides bounds on the derivative of the heat kernel, simplifying and generalizing existing results. The …
