In this article we consider the action of affine group and time rescaling on planar quadratic differential systems. We construct a system of representatives of the orbits of systems with at least five invariant lines, including the line at infinity and including multiplicities. For each orbit we exhibit its configuration. We characterize in terms of algebraic invariants and comitants and also geometrically, using divisors of the complex projective plane, the class of quadratic differential systems with at least five invariant lines. These conditions are such that no matter how a system may be presented, one can verify by using them whether the system has or does not have at least five invariant lines and to check to which orbit (or family of orbits) it belongs.
In this article we consider the action of affine group and time rescaling on planar quadratic differential systems. We construct a system of representatives of the orbits of systems with four invariant lines, including the line at infinity and including multiplicities. For each orbit we exhibit its configuration. We characterize in terms of algebraic invariants and comitants and also geometrically, using divisors of the complex projective plane, the class of quadratic differential systems with four invariant lines. These conditions are such that no matter how a system may be presented, one can…
In this paper we research global dynamics and bifurcations of planar piecewise smooth quadratic quasi--homogeneous but non-homogeneous polynomial differential systems. We present sufficient and necessary conditions for the existence of a center in piecewise smooth quadratic quasi--homogeneous systems. Moreover, the center is global and non-isochronous if it exists, which cannot appear in smooth quadratic quasi-homogeneous systems. Then the global structures of piecewise smooth quadratic quasi--homogeneous but non-homogeneous systems are studied. Finally we investigate limit cycle bifurcations …
The new necessary and sufficient affine invariant conditions for the existence and for determining the number of centers for general quadratic system are pointed out. These conditions correspond to the partition of 12-dimensional coefficient space of indicated system with respect to the number and the multiplicity of its finite critical points.
We show an upper bound for the sum of positive Lyapunov exponents of any Teichmüller curve in strata of quadratic differentials with at least one zero of large multiplicity. As a corollary, it holds for any $SL(2,\mathbb R)$-invariant subspaces defined over $\mathbb Q$ in these strata. This proves Grivaux-Hubert's conjecture about the asymptotics of Lyapunov exponents for strata with a large number of poles in the situation when at least one zero has large multiplicity.
In this paper we show how we can transform quadratic systems into new quadratic systems after some kind of birational transformations, the quadratic plane Cremona maps. We afterwards apply these transformations to the families of quadratic differential systems having an algebraic limit cycle. As a consequence, we provide a new family of quadratic systems having an algebraic limit cycle of degree 5. Moreover we show how the known families of quadratic differential systems having an algebraic limit cycle of degree greater than four are obtained using these transformations. We also provide the ph…
This article shows how box dimension of the unit-time map can be used in studying the multiplicity of nilpotent singularities of planar vector fields. Using unit-time map on the characteristic curve of nilpotent singularity we define characteristic map and characteristic box dimension of the unit-time map. We study connection between the box dimension of discrete orbits generated by the unit-time map of planar vector fields on the characteristic or invariant curves, and the multiplicity of singularities. Nilpotent singularities which are studied are nilpotent node, focus and cusp. Also, we sho…
In this paper, the global qualitative analysis of planar quadratic dynamical systems is established and a new geometric approach to solving Hilbert's Sixteenth Problem in this special case of polynomial systems is suggested. Using geometric properties of four field rotation parameters of a new canonical system which is constructed in this paper, we present a proof of our earlier conjecture that the maximum number of limit cycles in a quadratic system is equal to four and the only possible their distribution is (3:1). Besides, applying the Wintner-Perko termination principle for multiple limit …
We construct a polynomial planar vector field of degree two with one invariant algebraic curves of large degree. We exhibit an explicit quadratic vector fields which invariant curves of degree nine, twelve, fifteen and eighteen degree.
This paper study the planar semi-quasi homogeneous polynomial differential systems (short for PSQHPDS), which can be regard as a generalization of semi-homogeneous and of quasi-homogeneous systems. By using the algebraic skills, several important properties of PSQHPDS are derived and are employed to establish an algorithm for obtaining all the explicit expressions of PSQHPDS with a given degree. Afterward, we apply this algorithm to research the center problem of quadratic and cubic PSQHPDS. It is proved that the quadratic one hasn't center, and, that the cubic one has center if and only if it…
In this paper we study the maximum number of limit cycles that can bifurcate from a focus singular point $p_0$ of an analytic, autonomous differential system in the real plane under an analytic perturbation. We consider $p_0$ being a focus singular point of the following three types: non-degenerate, degenerate without characteristic directions and nilpotent. In a neighborhood of $p_0$ the differential system can always be brought, by means of a change to (generalized) polar coordinates $(r, θ)$, to an equation over a cylinder in which the singular point $p_0$ corresponds to a limit cycle $γ_0$…
In this paper, we study the existence and multiplicity of homoclinic solutions for following Hamiltonian systems with asymptotically quadratic nonlinearities at infinity \begin{eqnarray*} \ddot{u}(t)-L(t)u+\nabla W(t,u)=0. {eqnarray*} We introduce a new coercive condition and obtain a new embedding theorem. With this theorem, we show that above systems possess at least one nontrivial homoclinic orbits by Generalized Mountain Pass Theorem. By Variant Fountain Theorem, infinitely many homoclinic orbits are obtained for above problem with symmetric condition. Our asymptotically quadratic conditio…
We study several families of planar quadratic diffeomorphisms near a Bogdanov-Takens bifurcation. For each family, the associate bifurcation diagram can be deduced from the interpolating flow. However, a zone of chaos confined between two lines of homoclinic bifurcation that are exponentially close to one-another is observed. The goal of this paper is to test numerically an accurate asymptotic expansion for the width of this chaotic zone for different families.
Striped patterns are known to bifurcate in reaction-diffusion systems with differential isotropic diffusions at a supercritical Turing instability. In this paper we study the impact of weak anisotropy by directional advection on the stability of stripes with respect to various lattice modes, and the role of quadratic terms therein. We focus on the generic form of planar reaction-diffusion systems with two components near such a bifurcation. Using centre manifold reduction we derive a rigorous parameter expansion for the critical eigenvalues for lattice mode perturbations, specifically nearly s…
In this paper we show the finite cyclicity of the two graphics $(I_{12}^1)$ and $(I_{13}^1)$ through a triple nilpotent point of saddle type inside quadratic vector fields. These results contribute to the program launched in 1994 by Dumortier, Roussarie and Rousseau (DRR program) to show the existence of a uniform upper bound for the number of limit cycles for planar quadratic vector fields.
We show that the algebraic curve $a_0(x)(y-r(x))+p_2(x)a'(x)=0,$ where $r(x)$ and $p_2(x)$ are polynomial of degree 1 and 2 respectively and $a_0(x)$ is a polynomial solution of the convenient Fucsh's equation, is an invariant curve of the quadratic planar differential system. We study the particular case when $a_0(x)$ is an orthogonal polynomials. We prove that that in this case the quadratic differential system is Liouvillian integrable.
It is well known that for reaction-diffusion systems with differential isotropic diffusions, a Turing instability yields striped solutions. In this paper we study the impact of weak anisotropy by directional advection on such solutions, and the role of quadratic terms. We focus on the generic form of planar reaction-diffusion systems with two components near such a bifurcation. Using Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction and Floquet-Bloch decomposition we derive a rigorous parameter expansion for existence and stability against large wavelength perturbations. This provides detailed formulae for the loci …
We consider double canard cycles including two canards in singularly perturbed planar systems with two canard points. Previous work studied the complex oscillations including relaxation oscillations and canard cycles in singularly perturbed planar systems with one-parameter layer equations, which have precisely one canard point, two jump points or one canard point and one jump point. Based on the normal form theory, blow-up technique and Melnikov theory, we investigate double canard cycles induced by two Hopf breaking mechanisms at two non-degenerate canard points. Finally, we apply the obtain…
