We establish comparison results between the Hasse-Witt invariants w_t(E) of a symmetric bundle E over a scheme and the invariants of one of its twists E_α. For general twists we describe the difference between w_t(E) and w_t(E_α) up to terms of degree 3. Next we consider a special kind of twist, which has been studied by A. Fröhlich. This arises from twisting by a cocycle obtained from an orthogonal representation. We show how to explicitly describe the twist for representations arising from very general tame actions. This involves the ``square root of the inverse different'' which Serre, Esnault, Kahn, Viehweg and ourselves had studied before. For torsors we show that, in our geometric set-up, Jardine's generalization of Frohlich's formula holds. The case of genuinely tamely ramified actions is geometrically more involved and leads us to introduce a ramification invariant which generalises in higher dimension the invariant introduced by Serre for curves.
Following Serre's initial work, a number of authors have considered twists of quadratic forms on a scheme Y by torsors of a finite group G, together with formulas for the Hasse-Witt invariants of the twisted form. In this paper we take the base scheme Y to be affine and consider non-constant groups schemes G. There is a fundamental new feature in this case - in that the torsor may now be ramified over Y. The natural framework for handling the case of a non-constant group scheme over the affine base is provided by the quadratic theory of Hopf-algebras.
Here we study vector bundles $E$ on the Hirzebruch surface $F_e$ such that their twists by a spanned, but not ample, line bundle $M = \mathcal {O}_{F_e}(h+ef)$ have natural cohomology, i.e. $h^0(F_e,E(tM)) >0$ implies $h^1(F_e,E(tM)) = 0$.
We prove a canonical identifications of the spaces of generalized theta functions on the moduli spaces of anti-invariant vector bundles in the ramified case and the conformal blocks associated to twisted Kac-Moody affine algebras.
We establish a striking connection between Abramovich's and Vistoli's twisted bundles and Gieseker vector bundles. This note grew out of an attempt to understand a recent draft of Seshadri.
We prove several asymptotic vanishing theorems for Frobenius twists of ample vector bundles in positive characteristic. As an application, we prove a generalization of the Bott-Danilov-Steenbrink vanishing theorem for ample vector bundles on toric varieties.
Exceptional sequences of line bundles on a smooth projective toric surface are automatically full when they can be constructed via augmentation. By using spherical twists, we give examples that there are also exceptional sequences which can not be constructed this way but are nevertheless full.
We study (i) asymptotic behaviour of wild harmonic bundles, (ii) the relation between semisimple meromorphic flat connections and wild harmonic bundles, (iii) the relation between wild harmonic bundles and polarized wild pure twistor $D$-modules. As an application, we show the hard Lefschetz theorem for algebraic semisimple holonomic $D$-modules, conjectured by M. Kashiwara.
In this paper, we provide two different resolutions of structural sheaves of projectivized tangent bundles of smooth complete intersections. These resolutions allow in particular to obtain convenient (and completely explicit) descriptions of cohomology of twisted symmetric powers of cotangent bundles of complete intersections, which are easily implemented on computer. We then provide several applications. First, we recover the known vanishing theorems on the subject, and show that they are optimal via some non-vanishing theorems. Then, we study the symmetric algebra of global sections of symme…
Several important cases of vector bundles with extra structure (such as Higgs bundles and triples) may be regarded as examples of twisted representations of a finite quiver in the category of sheaves of modules on a variety/manifold/ringed space. We show that the category of such representations is an abelian category with enough injectives by constructing an explicit injective resolution. Using this explicit resolution, we find a long exact sequence that computes the Ext groups in this new category in terms of the Ext groups in the old category. The quiver formulation is directly reflected in…
We consider the gradient flow of the Yang-Mills-Higgs functional of twist Higgs pairs on a Hermitian vector bundle $(E,H_0)$ over a Riemann surface $X$. It is already known the gradient flow with initial data $(A_0,ϕ_0)$ converges to a critical point $(A_\infty, ϕ_\infty)$ of this functional. Using a modified Chern-Weil type inequality, we prove that the limiting twist Higgs bundle $(E, d_{A_\infty}", ϕ_\infty)$ is given by the graded twist Higgs bundle defined by the Harder-Narasimhan-Seshadri filtration of the initial twist Higgs bundle $(E,d_{A_0}",ϕ_0)$, generalizing Wilkin's results for u…
For a curve $C$ of genus $6$ or $8$ and a torsion bundle $η$ of order $\ell$ we study the vanishing of the space of global sections of the twist $E_C \otimes η$ of the rank two Mukai bundle $E_C$ of $C$. The bundle $E_C$ was used in a well-known construction of Mukai which exhibits general canonical curves of low genus as sections of Grassmannians in the Plücker embedding. Globalizing the vanishing condition, we obtain divisors on the moduli spaces $\overline{\mathcal{R}}_{6,\ell}$ and $\overline{\mathcal{R}}_{8,\ell}$ of pairs $[C, η]$. First we characterize these divisors by different condit…
Let $S \subset \mathbb{P}^g$ be a smooth $K3$ surface of degree $2g-2$, $g \geq 3$. We classify all the cases for which $h^0(\mathcal{N}_{S/\mathbb{P}^g}(-2)) \neq 0$ and the cases for which $h^0(\mathcal{N}_{S/\mathbb{P}^g}(-2)) < h^0(\mathcal{N}_{C/\mathbb{P}^{g-1}}(-2))$ for $C \subset \mathbb{P}^{g-1}$ a general canonical curve section of $S$.
Ordinarily, quiver varieties are constructed as moduli spaces of quiver representations in the category of vector spaces. It is also natural to consider quiver representations in a richer category, namely that of vector bundles on some complex variety equipped with a fixed sheaf that twists the morphisms. Representations of A-type quivers in this twisted category --- known in the literature as "holomorphic chains" --- have practical use in questions concerning the topology of the moduli space of Higgs bundles. In that problem, the variety is a Riemann surface of genus at least 2, and the twist…
We study the algebraic geometry of twisted Higgs bundles of cyclic type along complex curves. These objects, which generalize ordinary cyclic Higgs bundles, can be identified with representations of a cyclic quiver in a twisted category of coherent sheaves. Referring to the Hitchin fibration, we produce a fibre-wise geometric description of the locus of such representations within the ambient twisted Higgs moduli space. When the genus is 0, we produce a concrete geometric identification of the moduli space as a vector bundle over an associated (twisted) A-type quiver variety; we count the numb…
In this note we prove a new explicit formula for the invariants of moduli spaces of twisted Higgs bundles over P^1 and we relate these invariants to the invariants of moduli spaces of representations of some infinite symmetric quiver. The formula can be easily implemented for computations and it is in agreement with the existing conjectures for the invariants of twisted Higgs bundles over curves. Results of this note were presented in Oberwolfach in May 2014.
Given a double quiver, we study homological algebra of twisted quiver sheaves with the moment map relation using the short exact sequence of Crawley-Boevey, Holland, Gothen, and King. Then in a certain one-parameter space of the stability conditions, we obtain a wall-crossing formula for the generalized Donaldson-Thomas invariants of the abelian category of framed twisted quiver sheaves on a smooth projective curve. To do so, we closely follow the approach of Chuang, Diaconescu, and Pan in the ADHM quiver case, which makes use of the theory of Joyce and Song. The invariants virtually count fra…
In this paper we propose and investigate in full generality new notions of (continuous, non-isometric) symmetry on hyperkähler spaces. These can be grouped into two categories, corresponding to the two basic types of continuous hyperkähler isometries which they deform: tri-Hamiltonian isometries, on one hand, and rotational isometries, on the other. The first category of deformations gives rise to Killing spinors and generate what are known as hidden hyperkähler symmetries. The second category gives rise to hyperholomorphic line bundles over the hyperkähler manifolds on which they are defined …
We give an alternative argument for the classification of real bundle pairs over smooth symmetric surfaces and extend this classification to nodal symmetric surfaces. We also classify the homotopy classes of automorphisms of real bundle pairs over symmetric surfaces. The two statements together describe the isomorphisms between real bundle pairs over symmetric surfaces up to deformation.
