Using convex surfaces and Kanda's classification theorem, we classify Legendrian isotopy classes of Legendrian linear curves in all tight contact structures on $T^3$. Some of the knot types considered in this article provide new examples of non transversally simple knot types.
We give new functions of Legendrian knots derived from Legendrian fronts. These are integer-valued linear functions that are alike the Arnold basic invariant of plane curves. Various generalizations of the Arnold basic invariant have been known. In this paper, we give another extension of Arnold's idea.
We have two results. First, we give 96 generating sets oriented singular Reidemeister moves; it is an answer to a question by Bataineh, Khaled, Elhamdadi, and Hajij who give a generating set of oriented singular Reidemeister moves using their computation. Second, in the theory of plane curve and Legendrian knots introduced by V. I. Arnold, we select which moves survive as those of Legendrian singular knots and fronts diagrammatically and explicitly.
We construct closed arboreal Lagrangian skeleta associated to links of isolated plane curve singularities. This yields closed arboreal Lagrangian skeleta for Weinstein pairs and Weinstein 4-manifolds associated to max-tb Legendrian representatives of algebraic links. We provide computations of Legendrian and Weinstein invariants, and discuss the symplectic topological nature of the Fomin-Pylyavskyy-Shustin-Thurston cluster algebra associated to a singularity. Finally, we present a conjectural ADE-classification for Lagrangian fillings of certain Legendrian links and list some related problems.
Legendrian contact homology (LCH) and its associated differential graded algebra are powerful non-classical invariants of Legendrian knots. Linearization makes the LCH computationally tractable at the expense of discarding nonlinear (and noncommutative) information. To recover some of the nonlinear information while preserving computability, we introduce invariant cup and Massey products - and, more generally, an A_\infty structure - on the linearized LCH. We apply the products and A_\infty structure in three ways: to find infinite families of Legendrian knots that are not isotopic to their Le…
Let L be a Legendrian knot in R^3 with the standard contact structure. In [10], a map was constructed from equivalence classes of Morse complex sequences for L, which are combinatorial objects motivated by generating families, to homotopy classes of augmentations of the Legendrian contact homology algebra of L. Moreover, this map was shown to be a surjection. We show that this correspondence is, in fact, a bijection. As a corollary, homotopic augmentations determine the same graded normal ruling of L and have isomorphic linearized contact homology groups. A second corollary states that the cou…
If a Legendrian knot $Λ$ in the standard contact 3-sphere bounds an orientable exact Lagrangian surface $Σ$ in the standard symplectic 4-ball, then the genus of $Σ$ is equal to the slice genus of (the smooth knot underlying) $Λ$, the sum of the Thurston-Bennequin number of L and the Euler characteristic of $Σ$ is zero as well as the rotation number of $Λ$, and moreover, the linearized contact homology of $Λ$ with respect to the augmentation induced by $Σ$ is isomorphic to the (singular) homology of $Σ$. It was asked in arXiv:1212.1519 whether the converse of this statement is true. We give a n…
Given a front projection of a Legendrian knot $K$ in $\mathbb{R}^{3}$ which has been cut into several pieces along vertical lines, we assign a differential graded algebra to each piece and prove a van Kampen theorem describing the Chekanov-Eliashberg invariant of $K$ as a pushout of these algebras. We then use this theorem to construct maps between the invariants of Legendrian knots related by certain tangle replacements, and to describe the linearized contact homology of Legendrian Whitehead doubles. Other consequences include a Mayer-Vietoris sequence for linearized contact homology and a va…
Let $α$ be a contact form on $S^3$, let $ξ$ be its Reeb vector-field and let $v$ be a non-singular vector-field in $kerα$. Let $C_β$ be the space of curves $x$ on $S^3$ such $\dot x=aξ+bv, \dot a=0, a \gneq 0$. Let $L^+$, respectively $L^-$, be the set of curves in $C_β$ such that $b\geq 0$, respectively $b \leq 0$. Let, for $x \in C_β$, $J(x)=\int_0^1α_x(\dot x)dt$. We establish in this paper that an infinite number of cycles in the $S^1$-equivariant homology of $C_β$,{\bf relative} to $L^+ \cup L^-$ and to some specially designed "bottom set", see section 4, are achieved in the Morse complex…
For a Legendrian knot L in R^3 with a chosen Morse complex sequence (MCS) we construct a differential graded algebra (DGA) whose differential counts "chord paths" in the front projection of L. The definition of the DGA is motivated by considering Morse-theoretic data from generating families. In particular, when the MCS arises from a generating family we give a geometric interpretation of our chord paths as certain broken gradient trajectories which we call "gradient staircases". Given two equivalent MCS's we prove the corresponding linearized complexes of the DGA are isomorphic. If the MCS ha…
A first order Vassiliev invariant of an oriented knot in an $S^1$-fibration and a Seifert fibration over a surface is constructed. It takes values in a quotient of the group ring of the first homology group of the total space of the fibration. It gives rise to an invariant of wave fronts on surfaces and orbifolds related to the Bennequin-type invariants of the Legendrian curves studied by F. Aicardi, V. Arnold, M. Polyak, and S. Tabachnikov. Formulas expressing these relations are presented. We also calculate Turaev's shadow for the Legendrian lifting of a wave front. This allows to use in the…
We construct an enhanced version of knot contact homology, and show that we can deduce from it the group ring of the knot group together with the peripheral subgroup. In particular, it completely determines a knot up to smooth isotopy. The enhancement consists of the (fully noncommutative) Legendrian contact homology associated to the union of the conormal torus of the knot and a disjoint cotangent fiber sphere, along with a product on a filtered part of this homology. As a corollary, we obtain a new, holomorphic-curve proof of a result of the third author that the Legendrian isotopy class of …
Let $Λ$ be a Legendrian in the jet space of some manifold $X$. To a generating family presentation of $Λ$, we associate a constructible sheaf on $X \times \mathbb{R}$ whose singular support at infinity is $Λ$, and such that the generating family homology is canonically isomorphic to the endomorphism algebra of this sheaf. That is, the theory of generating family homology embeds in sheaf theory, and more specifically in the category studied in [STZ]. When $X = \mathbb{R}$, i.e., for the theory of Legendrian knots and links in the standard contact $\mathbb{R}^3$, we use ideas from the proof of t…
To a Legendrian knot, one can associate an $\mathcal{A}_{\infty}$ category, the augmentation category. An exact Lagrangian cobordism between two Legendrian knots gives a functor of the augmentation categories of the two knots. We study the functor and establish a long exact sequence relating the corresponding cohomology of morphisms of the two ends. As applications, we prove that the functor between augmentation categories is injective on the level of equivalence classes of objects and find new obstructions to the existence of exact Lagrangian cobordisms in terms of linearized contact homology…
The primary objects of study in the ``knot theory of complex plane curves'' are C-links: links (or knots) cut out of a 3-sphere in the complex plane by complex plane transverse and totally tangential. Transverse C-links are naturally oriented. There are many natural classes of examples: links of singularities; links at infinity; links of divides, free divides, tree divides, and graph divides; and--most generally--quasipositive links. Totally tangential C-links are unoriented but naturally framed; they turn out to be precisely the real-analytic Legendrian links, and can profitably be investigat…
We study Weinstein 4-manifolds which admit Lagrangian skeleta given by attaching disks to a surface along a collection of simple closed curves. In terms of the curves describing one such skeleton, we describe surgeries that preserve the ambient Weinstein manifold, but change the skeleton. The surgeries can be iterated to produce more such skeleta --- in many cases, infinitely many more. Each skeleton is built around a Lagrangian surface. Passing to the Fukaya category, the skeletal surgeries induce cluster transformations on the spaces of rank one local systems on these surfaces, and noncommut…
We show that a random walk on the mapping class group of an orientable surface of finite type makes linear progress in the relative metric, which is quasi-isometric to the complex of curves.
Recently Arnold's $\St$ and $J^{\pm}$ invariants of generic planar curves have been generalized to the case of generic planar wave fronts. We generalize these invariants to the case of wave fronts on an arbitrary surface $F$. All invariants satisfying the axioms which naturally generalize the axioms used by Arnold are explicitly described. We also give an explicit formula for the finest order one $J^+$-type invariant of fronts on an orientable surface $F\neq S^2$. We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for an invariant of nongeneric fronts with one nongeneric singular point to be the Va…
