We prove a Kurosh type theorem for free-product type II_1 factors. In particular, if M = LF_2 \otimes R, then the free-product type II_1 factors M*...*M are all prime and pairwise non-isomorphic. This paper is a continuation of [N. Ozawa, Solid von Neumann algebras] and [N. Ozawa and S. Popa, Some prime factorization results for type II_1 factors].

A Kurosh-Type Theorem for Type III Factors

We prove a generalization of N. Ozawa's Kurosh-type theorem to the setting of free products of semiexact II_1 factors with respect to arbitrary (non-tracial) faithful normal states. We are thus able to distinguish certain resulting type III factors. For example, if M = LF_n \otimes LF_m and {ϕ_i} is any sequence of faithful normal states on M, then the l-various (M,ϕ_1) * ... * (M,ϕ_l) are all mutually non-isomorphic.

Rigidity of free product von Neumann algebras

Let $I$ be any nonempty set and $(M_i, φ_i)_{i \in I}$ any family of nonamenable factors, endowed with arbitrary faithful normal states, that belong to a large class $\mathcal C_{\rm anti-free}$ of (possibly type III) von Neumann algebras including all nonprime factors, all nonfull factors and all factors possessing a Cartan subalgebra. Schur-Horn theorems in II$_\infty$-factors

We describe majorization between selfadjoint operators in a $σ$-finite II$_\infty$ factor $(\mathcal{M},τ)$ in terms of simple spectral relations. Building on results of Haagerup and Schultz, we decompose an arbitrary operator in a diffuse, finite von Neumann algebra into the sum of a normal operator and an s.o.t.-quasinilpotent operator. An upper triangular decomposition theorem for some unbounded operators affiliated to II_1-factors

Results of Haagerup and Schultz (2009) about existence of invariant subspaces that decompose the Brown measure are extended to a large class of unbounded operators affiliated to a tracial von Neumann algebra. Induced Stinespring factorization and the Wittstock support theorem

Given a pair of self-adjoint-preserving completely bounded maps on the same $C^*$-algebra, say that $φ\leq ψ$ if the kernel of $φ$ is a subset of the kernel of $ψ$ and $ψ\circ φ^{-1}$ is completely positive. The \emph{Agler class} of a map $φ$ is the class of $ψ\geq φ.$ Such maps admit colligation formulae, and, in Lyapunov type situations, transfer function type realizations on the Stinespring coefficients of their Wittstock decompositions. As an application, we prove that the support of an extremal Wittstock decomposition is unique.
