Certain quantization problems are equivalent to the construction of morphisms from "quantum" to "classical" props. Once such a morphism is constructed, Hensel's lemma shows that it is in fact an isomorphism. This gives a new, simple proof that any Etingof-Kazhdan quantization functor is an equivalence of categories between quantized universal enveloping (QUE) algebras and Lie bialgebras over a formal series ring (dequantization). We apply the same argument to construct dequantizations of formal solutions of the quantum Yang-Baxter equation and of quasitriangular QUE algebras. We also give structure results for the props involved in quantization of Lie bialgebras, which yield an associator-independent proof that the prop of QUE algebras is a flat deformation of the prop of co-Poisson universal enveloping algebras.
We propose a variant to the Etingof-Kazhdan construction of quantization functors. We construct the twistor J_Φassociated to an associator Φusing cohomological techniques. We then introduce a criterion ensuring that the ``left Hopf algebra'' of a quasitriangular QUE algebra is flat. We prove that this criterion is satisfied at the universal level. This provides a construction of quantization functors, equivalent to the Etingof-Kazhdan construction.
We study the behavior of the Etingof-Kazhdan quantization functors under the natural duality operations of Lie bialgebras and Hopf algebras. In particular, we prove that these functors are "compatible with duality", i.e., they commute with the operation of duality followed by replacing the coproduct by its opposite. We then show that any quantization functor with this property also commutes with the operation of taking doubles. As an application, we show that the Etingof-Kazhdan quantization of some affine Lie superalgebras coincide with their Drinfeld-Jimbo-type quantizations.
We construct quantization functors of quasi-Lie bialgebras. We establish a bijection between this set of quantization functors, modulo equivalence and twist equivalence, and the set of quantization functors of Lie bialgebras, modulo equivalence. This is based on the acyclicity of the kernel of the natural morphism from the universal deformation complex of quasi-Lie bialgebras to that of Lie bialgebras. The proof of this acyclicity consists in several steps, ending up in the acyclicity of a complex related to free Lie algebras, namely, the universal version of the Lie algebra cohomology complex…
We show that any coboundary Lie bialgebra can be quantized. For this, we prove that: (a) Etingof-Kazhdan quantization functors are compatible with Lie bialgebra twists, and (b) if such a quantization functor corresponds to an even associator, then it is also compatible with the operation of taking coopposites. We also use the relation between the Etingof-Kazhdan construction of quantization functors and the alternative approach to this problem, which was established in a previous work.
We study linear Batalin-Vilkovisky (BV) quantization, which is a derived and shifted version of the Weyl quantization of symplectic vector spaces. Using a variety of homotopical machinery, we implement this construction as a symmetric monoidal functor of $\infty$-categories. We also show that this construction has a number of pleasant properties: It has a natural extension to derived algebraic geometry, it can be fed into the higher Morita category of $E_n$-algebras to produce a "higher BV quantization" functor, and when restricted to formal moduli problems, it behaves like a determinant. Alon…
We describe a new method of quantization of Lie bialgebras, based on a construction of Hopf algebras out of a cocommutative coalgebra and a braided comonoidal functor.
This paper is a continuation of "Quantization of Lie bialgebras, I" (q-alg/9606005). We show that the quantization procedure defined in "Quantization of Lie bialgebras, I" is given by universal acyclic formulas and defines a functor from the category of Lie bialgebras to the category of quantized universal enveloping algebras. We also show that this functor defines an equivalence between the category of Lie bialgebras over k[[h]] and the category quantized universal enveloping (QUE) algebras.
We introduce the notion of Gamma-Lie bialgebra, where Gamma is a group. These objects give rise to cocommutative co-Poisson algebras, for which we construct quantization functors. This enlarges the class of co-Poisson algebras for which a quantization is known. Our result relies on our earlier work, where we showed that twists of Lie bialgebras can be quantized; we complement this work by studying the behavior of this quantization under compositions of twists.
Let $(g,δ_\hbar)$ be a Lie bialgebra. Let $(U_\hbar(g),Δ_\hbar)$ a quantization of $(g,δ_\hbar)$ through Etingof-Kazhdan functor. We prove the existence of a $L_\infty$-morphism between the Lie algebra $C(\g)=Λ(g)$ and the tensor algebra $TU=T(U_\hbar(g)[-1])$ with Lie algebra structure given by the Gerstenhaber bracket. When $(g,δ_\hbar,r)$ is a coboundary Lie bialgebra, we deduce from the formality morphism the existence of a quantization $R$ of $r$.
This paper is a continuation of the series of papers "Quantization of Lie bialgebras (QLB) I-V". We show that the image of a Kac-Moody Lie bialgebra with the standard quasitriangular structure under the quantization functor defined in QLB-I,II is isomorphic to the Drinfeld-Jimbo quantization of this Lie bialgebra, with the standard quasitriangular structure. This implies that when the quantization parameter is formal, then the category O for the quantized Kac-Moody algebra is equivalent, as a braided tensor category, to the category O over the corresponding classical Kac-Moody algebra, with th…
Let g be a symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebra and U_h(g) its quantized enveloping algebra. The quantum Weyl group operators of U_h(g) and the universal R-matrices of its Levi subalgebras endow U_h(g) with a natural quasi-Coxeter quasitriangular quasibialgebra structure which underlies the action of the braid group of g and Artin's braid groups on the tensor product of integrable, category O modules. We show that this structure can be transferred to the universal enveloping algebra Ug[[h]]. The proof relies on a modification of the Etingof-Kazhdan quantization functor, and yields an isomorphism be…
To any field K of characteristic 0, we associate a set Sha(K). Elements of Sha(K) are equivalence classes of families of Lie polynomials subject to associativity relations. We construct an injection and a retraction between Sha(K) and the set of quantization functors of Lie bialgebras over K. This construction involves the following steps. 1) To each element \varpi of Sha(K), we associate a functor g\mapsto Sh(g) from the category of Lie algebras to that of Hopf algebras; Sh(g) contains Ug. 2) When g and h are Lie algebras, and r_{gh} \in g\otimes h, we construct an element R(r_{gh}) of Sh(g)\…
Deformation Theory is a natural generalization of Lie Theory, from Lie groups and their linearization, Lie algebras, to differential graded Lie algebras and their higher order deformations, quantum groups. The article focuses on two basic constructions of deformation theory: the universal solution of Maurer-Cartan Equation (MCE), which plays the role of the exponential of Lie Theory, and its inverse, the Kuranishi functor, as the logarithm. The deformation functor is the gauge reduction of MCE, corresponding to a Hodge decomposition associated to the strong deformation retract data. The above …
We study quantization of a class of inhomogeneous Lie bialgebras which are crossproducts in dual sectors with Abelian invariant parts. This class forms a category stable under dualization and the double operations. The quantization turns out to be a functor commuting with them. The Hopf operations and the universal R-matrices are given in terms of generators. The quantum algebras obtained appear to be isomorphic to the universal enveloping Poisson-Lie algebras on the dual groups.
We give simple explicit formulas for deformation quantization of Poisson-Lie groups and of similar Poisson manifolds which can be represented as moduli spaces of flat connections on surfaces. The star products depend on a choice of Drinfeľd associator and are obtained by applying certain monoidal functors (fusion and reduction) to commutative algebras in Drinfeľd categories. From a geometric point of view this construction can be understood as a quantization of the quasi-Poisson structures on moduli spaces of flat connections.
Contrary to the classical methods of quantum mechanics, the deformation quantization can be carried out on phase spaces which are not even topological manifolds. In particular, the Moyal star product gives rise to a canonical functor $F$ from the category of affine analytic spaces to the category of associative (in general, non-commutative) $\C$-algebras. Curiously, if $X$ is the $n$-tuple point, $x^{n}=0$, then $F(X)$ is the algebra of $n\times n$ matrices.
We develop a quantum duality principle for coisotropic subgroups of a (formal) Poisson group and its dual. Namely, starting from a quantum coisotropic subgroup (for a quantization of a given Poisson group) we provide functorial recipes to produce quantizations of the dual coisotropic subgroup (in the dual formal Poisson group). By the natural link between subgroups and homogeneous spaces, we argue a quantum duality principle for Poisson homogeneous spaces which are Poisson quotients, i.e. have at least one zero-dimensional symplectic leaf. As an application, we provide an explicit quantization…
A generalization of Connes-Thom isomorphism is given for stable, homotopy invariant, and split exact functors on separable $C^*$-algebras. As examples of these functors, we concentrate on asymptotic and local cyclic cohomology and the result is applied to improve some formulas in asymptotic and local cyclic cohomology of $C^*$-algebras. As an other application, it is shown that these cyclic theories are rigid after Rieffel's deformation quantizations.
Given a compact simple Lie group G and a primitive degree 3 twist h, we define a monoidal category C(G, h) with a May structure. An object in the category C(G, h) is a pair (X, f), where X is a compact G-manifold and f a smooth G-map from X to G with respect to the conjugation action of G on itself. Such an object determines a module, the equivariant twisted K-homology K^G(X, f^*(h)), for the Verlinde algebra, termed a Verlinde module, where the module action is induced by the G-action on X. In order to understand which objects in C(G, h) can be quantized, we define the closely related monoida…
We give the definitions of affine algebraic supervariety and affine algebraic group through the functor of points and we relate them to the other definitions present in the literature. We study in detail the algebraic supergroup $SL(m|n)$ and give explicitly the Hopf algebra structure of the algebra representing its functor of points. At the end we give also the quantization of $SL(m|n)$ together with its coactions on suitable quantum spaces according to Manin's philosophy.
We settle several questions about the theory of universal deformation quantization of Lie bialgebras by giving their complete classification up to homotopy equivalence. An important new technical ingredient introduced in this paper is an endofunctor D in the category of augmented props with the property that for any representation of a prop P in a vector space V the associated prop DP admits an induced representation on the graded commutative tensor algebra S(V) given in terms of polydifferential operators. Applying this functor to the prop LieB of Lie bialgebras we show that universal formali…
For a complex or real algebraic group G, with g:=Lie(G), quantizations of global type are suitable Hopf algebras F_q[G] or U_q(g) over C[q,q^{-1}]. Any such quantization yields a structure of Poisson group on G, and one of Lie bialgebra on g : correspondingly, one has dual Poisson groups G^* and a dual Lie bialgebra g^*. In this context, we introduce suitable notions of quantum subgroup and of quantum homogeneous space, in three versions: weak, proper and strict (also called "flat" in the literature). The last two notions only apply to those subgroups which are coisotropic, and those homogeneo…
This work is the final version of my master thesis. Many, but not all of its key results are already available as a preprint with Chiara Esposito and Stefan Waldmann on arxiv.org under the title "Convergence of the Gutt Star Product", which has been submitted to a journal. The main goal of this work is to understand a certain deformation of the commutative product on the symmetric tensor algebra over a given (locally convex) Lie algebra in a topological setting. Therefore, the tensor algebra over the Lie algebra is topologized in a locally convex manner. This finally provides a new example of …
In this thesis we give obstructions for Drinfel'd twist deformation quantization on several classes of symplectic manifolds. Motivated from this quantization procedure, we further construct a noncommutative Cartan calculus on any braided commutative algebra, as well as an equivariant Levi-Civita covariant derivative for any non-degenerate equivariant metric. This generalizes and unifies the Cartan calculus on a smooth manifold and the Cartan calculus on twist star product algebras. We prove that the Drinfel'd functor leads to equivalence classes in braided commutative geometry and commutes wit…
In this paper we describe progress made toward the construction of the Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev theory of knot invariants from the geometric point of view. This is done in the perspective of a joint result of the author with A. Uribe which relates the quantum group and the Weyl quantizations of the moduli space of flat SU(2)-connections on the tours. Two results are emphasized: the reconstruction from Weyl quantization of the restriction to the torus of the modular functor, and a description of a basis of the space of quantum observables on the torus in terms of colored curves, which answers …
We canonically quantize the tau-functions for the birational Weyl group action arising from a nilpotent Poisson algebra proposed by Noumi and Yamada. We also construct the q-difference deformation of the canonical quantization of the tau-functions. Using the translation functors for the symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebras, we prove the regularity of the quantum tau-functions, namely, we show that the quantum tau-functions are polynomials in dependent variables.
$C^*$-algebraic Weyl quantization is extended by allowing also degenerate pre-symplectic forms for the Weyl relations with infinitely many degrees of freedom, and by starting out from enlarged classical Poisson algebras. A powerful tool is found in the construction of Poisson algebras and non-commutative twisted Banach-$*$-algebras on the stage of measures on the not locally compact test function space. Already within this frame strict deformation quantization is obtained, but in terms of Banach-$*$-algebras instead of $C^*$-algebras. Fourier transformation and representation theory of the mea…
This article consists of two parts. In Part 1, we present a formulation of two-dimensional topological quantum field theories in terms of a functor from a category of Ribbon graphs to the endofuntor category of a monoidal category. The key point is that the category of ribbon graphs produces all Frobenius objects. Necessary backgrounds from Frobenius algebras, topological quantum field theories, and cohomological field theories are reviewed. A result on Frobenius algebra twisted topological recursion is included at the end of Part 1. In Part 2, we explain a geometric theory of quantum curves. …
In this paper, we introduce the notion of multiplier of a Hilbert algebra. The space of bounded multipliers is a semifinite von Neumann algebra isomorphic to the left von Neumann algebra of the Hilbert algebra, as expected. However, in the unbounded setting, the space of multipliers has the structure of a *-algebra with nice properties concerning commutant and affiliation: it is a pre-GW*-algebra. And this correspondence between Hilbert algebras and its multipliers is functorial. Then, we can endow the Hilbert algebra with a nice topology constructed from unbounded multipliers. As we can see f…
Proofs of Tsygan's formality conjectures for chains would unlock important algebraic tools which might lead to new generalizations of the Atiyah-Patodi-Singer index theorem and the Riemann-Roch-Hirzebruch theorem. Despite this pivotal role in the traditional investigations and the efforts of various people the most general version of Tsygan's formality conjecture has not yet been proven. In my thesis I propose Fedosov resolutions for the Hochschild cohomological and homological complexes of the algebra of functions on an arbitrary smooth manifold. Using these resolutions together with Kontsevi…
In the context of deformation quantization, there exist various procedures to deal with the quantization of a reduced space M_red. We shall be concerned here mainly with the classical Marsden-Weinstein reduction, assuming that we have a proper action of a Lie group G on a Poisson manifold M, with a moment map J for which zero is a regular value. For the quantization, we follow [BHW] (with a simplified approach) and build a star product *_red on M_red from a strongly invariant star product * on M. The new questions which are addressed in this paper concern the existence of natural *-involutions…
We introduce a noncommutative Poisson random measure on a von Neumann algebra. This is a noncommutative generalization of the classical Poisson random measure. We call this construction Poissonization. Poissonization is a functor from the category of von Neumann algebras with normal semifinite faithful weights to the category of von Neumann algebras with normal faithful states. Poissonization is a natural adaptation of the second quantization to the context of von Neumann algebras. The construction is compatible with normal (weight-preserving) homomorphisms and unital normal completely positiv…
The study of topological quantum field theories increasingly relies upon concepts from higher-dimensional algebra such as n-categories and n-vector spaces. We review progress towards a definition of n-category suited for this purpose, and outline a program in which n-dimensional TQFTs are to be described as n-category representations. First we describe a "suspension" operation on n-categories, and hypothesize that the k-fold suspension of a weak n-category stabilizes for k >= n+2. We give evidence for this hypothesis and describe its relation to stable homotopy theory. We then propose a descri…
We observe that all classical Hamiltonian systems coming from the invariant polynomials on a reductive Lie algebra g can be integrated in a universal way. This is a consequence of Ngô's action of the group scheme J of regular centralizers in G on all centralizers: the Hamiltonian flows associated to invariant polynomials integrate to an action of J as commutative symplectic groupoid. We quantize the Ngô action, providing a universal integration for all quantum Hamiltonian systems coming from the center Z=Z(Ug) of the enveloping algebra. Namely we extend Kostant's Whittaker description of Z to …
We give an account of the theory of factorization spaces, categories, functors, and algebras, following the approach of [Ras1]. We apply these results to give geometric constructions of factorization $\mathbb{E}_n$ algebras describing mixed holomorphic-topological twists of supersymmetric gauge theories in low dimensions. We formulate and prove several recent predictions from the physics literature in this language: We recall the Coulomb branch construction of [BFN1] from this perspective. We prove a conjecture from [CosG] that the Coulomb branch factorization $\mathbb{E}_1$ algebra $\mathcal{…
