The Amitsur-Levitski theorem asserts that $M_n(F)$ satisfies a polynomial identity of degree $2n$. (Here, $F$ is a field and $M_n(F)$ is the algebra of $n \times n$ matrices over $F$). It is easy to give examples of subalgebras of $M_n(F)$ that do satisfy an identity of lower degree and subalgebras of $M_n(F)$ that satisfy no polynomial identity of degree $\le 2n-2$. Our aim in this paper is to give a full classification of the subalgebras of $n \times n$ matrices that satisfy no nonzero polynomial of degree less than $2n$.
Under the assumption that a residually finite dimensional Hopf algebra H has an Artinian ring of fractions it is proved that H is a flat module over any right coideal subalgebra satisfying a polynomial identity and is faithfully flat over any polynomial identity Hopf subalgebra. As a consequence we find a large class of Hopf algebras which are flat over all coideal subalgebras and are faithfully flat over all Hopf subalgebras.
Let $UT_4(F)$ be $4\times 4$ upper triangular matrix algebra over a field $F$ of characteristic zero and let $\mathcal{A}$ be the subalgebra of $UT_4(F)$ linearly generated by $\{\mathbf{e}_{ij}:1 \leq i\leq j \leq 4 \} \setminus \mathbf{e}_{23}$ where $\{\mathbf{e}_{ij} : 1 \leq i\leq j \leq 4\}$ is the standard basis of $UT_4(F)$. We describe the set of all $*$-polynomial identities for $\mathcal{A}$ with the involution defined by the reflection of second diagonal.
In this paper we study non-central almost subnormal subgroups of the multiplicative group of a division ring satisfying a non-zero generalized rational identity. The main result generalizes Chiba's theorem on subnormal subgroups. As an application, we get a theorem on almost subnormal subgroups satisfying a generalized algebraic rational identity. The last theorem has several corollaries which generalize completely or partially some previous results.
Let P a locally finite partially ordered set, F a field, G a group, and I(P,F) the incidence algebra of P over F. We describe all the inequivalent elementary G-gradings on this algebra. If P is bounded, F is a infinite field of characteristic zero, and A, B are both elementary G-graded incidence algebras satisfying the same G-graded polynomial identities, and the automorphisms group of P acts transitively on the maximal chains of P , we show that A and B are graded isomorphic.
In this paper we study matrix algebras with a degenerate trace in the framework of the theory of polynomial identities. The first part is devoted to the study of the algebra $D_n$ of $n \times n$ diagonal matrices. We prove that, in case of a degenerate trace, all its trace identities follow by the commutativity law and by pure trace identities. Moreover we relate the trace identities of $D_{n+1}$ endowed with a degenerate trace, to those of $D_n$ with the corresponding trace. This allows us to determine the generators of the trace T-ideal of $D_3$. In the second part we study commutative suba…
For every commutative differential algebra one can define the Lie algebra of special derivations. It is known for years that not every Lie algebra can be embedded to the Lie algebra of special derivations of some differential algebra. More precisely, the Lie algebra of special derivations of a commutative algebra always satisfy the standard Lie identity of degree $5$. The problem of existence of such embedding is a long-standing problem (see \cite{YuPSt5,PoinsotAAM,Poinsot}), which is closely related to the Lie algebra of vector fields on the affine line (see \cite{YuPSt5}). It was solved by R…

In this paper we will explain an interesting phenomenon which occurs in general nonassociative algebras. More precisely, we establish that any finite-dimensional commutative nonassociative algebra over a field satisfying an identity always contains $\frac12$ in its Peirce spectrum. We also show that the corresponding $\frac12$-Peirce module satisfies the Jordan type fusion laws. The present approach is based on an explicit representation of the Peirce polynomial for an arbitrary algebra identity. To work with fusion rules, we develop the concept of the Peirce symbol and show that it can be exp…
