We give coordinate formula and geometric description of the curvature of the tensor product connection of linear connections on vector bundles with the same base manifold. We define the covariant differential of geometric fields of certain types with respect to a pair of a linear connection on a vector bundle and a linear symmetric connection on the base manifold. We prove the generalized Bianchi identity for linear connections and we prove that the antisymmetrization of the second order covariant differential is expressed via the curvature tensors of both connections.
We show that if $\nabla R$ is a Jordan Szabo algebraic covariant derivative curvature tensor on a vector space of signature (p,q), where q is odd and p is less than q or if q is congruent to 2 mod 4 and if p is less than q-1, then $\nabla R=0$. This algebraic result yields an elementary proof of the geometrical fact that any pointwise totally isotropic pseudo-Riemannian manifold with such a signature (p,q) is locally symmetric.
The covariant derivative of the Kähler form of an almost pseudo-Hermitian or of an almost para-Hermitian manifold satisfies certain algebraic relations. We show, conversely, that any 3-tensor which satisfies these algebraic relations can be realized geometrically.
It is well known that the curvature tensor of a pseudo-Riemannian manifold can be decomposed with respect to the pseudo-orthogonal group into the sum of the Weyl conformal curvature tensor, the traceless part of the Ricci tensor and of the scalar curvature. A similar decomposition with respect to the pseudo-unitary group exists on a pseudo-Kählerian manifold; instead of the Weyl tensor one obtains the Bochner tensor. In the present paper, the known decomposition with respect to the pseudo-orthogonal group of the covariant derivative of the curvature tensor of a pseudo-Riemannian manifold is re…
It is developed the considerations from (S. M. Minčić, [14, 15]) about curvature tensors and pseudotensors for a non-symmetric affine connection space in this paper. How many kinds of covariant derivatives are enough to be defined for complete researching in the field of non-symmetric affine connection spaces is examined here. This result is interpreted. After that, we searched how many curvature tensors and pseudotensors of a non-symmetric affine connection space are linearly independent. In the next, it is examined is it possible to express all curvature tensors as the linear combinations of…
In this paper, we study $L^p$-boundedness ($1<p\leq 2$) of the covariant Riesz transform on differential forms for a class of non-compact weighted Riemannian manifolds without assuming conditions on derivatives of curvature. We present in particular a local version of $L^p$-boundedness of Riesz transforms under two natural conditions, namely the curvature-dimension condition, and a lower bound on the Weitzenböck curvature endomorphism. As an application, the Calderón-Zygmund inequality for $1< p\leq 2$ on weighted manifolds is derived under the curvature-dimension condition as hypothesis.
In this paper we study the minimal norm tensors for general third covariant tensors and fourth covariant tensors, using this we can give a new explanation of Weyl tensor and Cotten tensor: Weyl tensor is the minimal norm tensor of Riemannian curvature tensor and Cotten tensor is the minimal norm tensor of divergence of Riemannian curvature tensor, and we also get some useful inequalities by computation the norm of minimal norm tensors.
We give in this paper which is the fifth in a series of eight a theory of covariant derivatives of multivector and extensor fields based on the geometric calculus of an arbitrary smooth manifold M, and the notion of a connection extensor field defining a parallelism structure on M. Also we give a novel and intrinsic presentation (i.e., one that does not depend on a chosen orthonormal moving frame) of the torsion and curvature fields of Cartan's theory. Two kinds of Cartan's connection fields are identified, and both appear in the intrinsic Cartan's structure equations satisfied by the Cartan's…
We study the covariant derivatives of an eigenfunction for the Laplace-Beltrami operator on a complete, connected Riemannian manifold with nonzero constant sectional curvature. We show that along every parallel tensor, the covariant derivative is a scalar multiple of the eigenfunction. We also show that the scalar is a polynomial depending on the eigenvalue and prove some properties. A conjecture motivated by the study of vertex algebraic structure on space forms is also announced, suggesting the existence of interesting structures in these polynomials that awaits further exploration.
Let R be an algebraic curvature tensor for a non-degenerate inner product of signature(p,q) where q>4. If $π$ is a spacelike 2 plane, let $R(π)$ be the associated skew-symmetric curvature operator. We classify the algebraic curvature tensors so R(-) has constant rank 2 and show these are geometrically realizable by hypersurfaces in flat spaces. We also classify the Ivanov-Petrova algebraic curvature tensors of rank 2; these are the algebraic curvature tensors of constant rank 2 such that the complex Jordan normal form of R(-) is constant.
Let $n \geq 3$ and $R_{abcd}$ be a $(4,0)$ sectionally positive curvature-type tensor (a tensor possessing all the local symmetries of the $(4,0)$ curvature tensor). Then there exists a metric tensor $g_{ab}$ such that $R_{abcd}\; g^{bd} = g_{ac} λ$ for some $λ$. Furthermore, $g_{ab}$ is unique up to a constant factor.
We show that any $k$ Osserman Lorentzian algebraic curvature tensor has constant sectional curvature and give an elementary proof that any local 2 point homogeneous Lorentzian manifold has constant sectional curvature. We also show that a Szabó Lorentzian covariant derivative algebraic curvature tensor vanishes.
In arXiv:2103.15482 an estimate for suitable skew-symmetric 2-tensors was claimed. Soon after, this estimate has been exploited to claim powerful classification results: most notably, it has been employed to propose a proof of a Black Hole Uniqueness Theorem for vacuum static spacetimes with positive scalar curvature and in connection with the Besse Conjecture. In the present note we point out an issue in the argument proposed in arXiv:2103.15482 and we provide a counterexample to the estimate.
We consider generators of algebraic covariant derivative curvature tensors R' which can be constructed by a Young symmetrization of product tensors W*U or U*W, where W and U are covariant tensors of order 2 and 3. W is a symmetric or alternating tensor whereas U belongs to a class of the infinite set S of irreducible symmetry classes characterized by the partition (2,1). Using Computer Algebra we search for such generators whose coordinate representations are polynomials with a minimal number of summands. For a generic choice of the symmetry class of U we obtain lengths of 16 or 20 summands if…
The curvature tensor of a pseudo-Riemannian metric, and its covariant derivatives, satisfy certain identities that hold on any manifold of dimension less or equal than $n$. In this paper, we re-elaborate recent results by Gilkey-Park-Sekigawa regarding $p$-covariant dimensional curvature identities, for $p=0,2$. To this end, we use the classical theory of natural operations, that allows us to simplify some arguments and to generalize the description of Gilkey-Park-Sekigawa. Thus, our main result describes the first space of $p$-covariant dimensional curvature identities, for any even $p$.
We show that the space of algebraic covariant derivative curvature tensors R' is generated by Young symmetrized tensor products W*U or U*W, where W and U are covariant tensors of order 2 and 3 whose symmetry classes are irreducible and characterized by the following pairs of partitions: {(2),(3)}, {(2),(2 1)} or {(1 1),(2 1)}. Each of the partitions (2), (3) and (1 1) describes exactly one symmetry class, whereas the partition (2 1) characterizes an infinite set S of irreducible symmetry classes. This set S contains exactly one symmetry class S_0 whose elements U can not play the role of gener…
With $\vecΔ_j\geq 0$ is the uniquely determined self-adjoint realization of the Laplace operator acting on $j$-forms on a geodesically complete Riemannian manifold $M$ and $\nabla$ the Levi-Civita covariant derivative, we prove amongst other things a Li-Yau type heat kernel bound for $\nabla \mathrm{e}^{ -t\vecΔ_j }$, if the curvature tensor of $M$ and its covariant derivative are bounded, an exponentially weighted $L^p$ bound for the heat kernel of $\nabla \mathrm{e}^{ -t\vecΔ_j }$, if the curvature tensor of $M$ and its covariant derivative are bounded, that $\nabla \mathrm{e}^{ -t\vecΔ_j }$…
We show that the symmetry classes of torsion-free covariant derivatives $\nabla T$ of r-times covariant tensor fields T can be characterized by Littlewood-Richardson products $σ[1]$ where $σ$ is a representation of the symmetric group $S_r$ which is connected with the symmetry class of T. If $σ= [λ]$ is irreducible then $σ[1]$ has a multiplicity free reduction $[λ][1] = \sum [μ]$ and all primitive idempotents belonging to that sum can be calculated from a generating idempotent e of the symmetry class of T by means of the irreducible characters or of a discrete Fourier transform of $S_{r+1}$. W…
The Riemann curvature tensor is a central mathematical tool in Einstein's theory of general relativity. Its related eigenproblem plays an important role in mathematics and physics. We extend M-eigenvalues for the elasticity tensor to the Riemann curvature tensor. The definition of M-eigenproblem of the Riemann curvature tensor is introduced from the minimization of an associated function. The M-eigenvalues of the Riemann curvature tensor always exist and are real. They are invariants of the Riemann curvature tensor. The associated function of the Riemann curvature tensor is always positive at …
In the literature various notions of nonlocal curvature can be found. Here we propose a notion of nonlocal curvature tensor. This we do by generalizing an appropriate representation of the classical curvature tensor and by exploiting some analogies with certain fractional differential operators.

We present a unified derivation of covariant time derivatives, which transform as tensors under a time-dependent coordinate change. Such derivatives are essential for formulating physical laws in a frame-independent manner. Three specific derivatives are described: convective, corotational, and directional. The covariance is made explicit by working in arbitrary time-dependent coordinates, instead of restricting to Eulerian (fixed) or Lagrangian (material) coordinates. The commutator of covariant time and space derivatives is interpreted in terms of a time-curvature that shares many properties…
This paper aims to study the $W$-curvature tensor on relativistic space-times. The energy-momentum tensor T of a space-time is semi-symmetric given that the $W$-curvature tensor is semi-symmetric whereas energy-momentum tensor T of a space-time having a divergence free $W$-curvature tensor is of Codazzi type. A space-time having a traceless $W$-curvature tensor is Einstein. A $W$-curvature flat space-time is Einstein. Perfect fluid space-times which admits $W$-curvature tensor are considered.
Extended spinor connections associated with composite spin-tensorial bundles are considered. Commutation relationships for covariant and multivariate differentiations and corresponding curvature spin-tensors are derived.
