Let $\mathcal{A}$ be the $C^*$-algebra associated with $SU_q(2)$, $π$ be the representation by left multiplication on the $L_2$ space of the Haar state and let $D$ be the equivariant Dirac operator for this representation constructed by the authors earlier. We prove in this article that there is no operator other than the scalars in the commutant $π(\cla)'$ that has bounded commutator with $D$. This implies that the equivariant spectral triple under consideration does not admit a rational Poincaré dual in the sense of Moscovici, which in particular means that this spectral triple does not extend to a $K$-homology fundamental class for $SU_q(2)$. We also show that a minor modification of this equivariant spectral triple gives a fundamental class and thus implements Poincaré duality.
The odd dimensional quantum sphere $S_q^{2\ell+1}$ is a homogeneous space for the quantum group $SU_q(\ell+1)$. A generic equivariant spectral triple for $S_q^{2\ell+1}$ on its $L_2$ space was constructed by Chakraborty & Pal. We prove regularity for that spectral triple here. We also compute its dimension spectrum and show that it is simple. We give detailed construction of its smooth function algebra and some related algebras that help proving regularity and in the computation of the dimension spectrum. Following the idea of Connes for $SU_q(2)$, we first study another spectral triple for $S…
We extend the notion of Poincaré duality in KK-theory to the setting of quantum group actions. An important ingredient in our approach is the replacement of ordinary tensor products by braided tensor products. Along the way we discuss general properties of equivariant KK-theory for locally compact quantum groups, including the construction of exterior products. As an example, we prove that the standard Podleś sphere is equivariantly Poincaré dual to itself.
We characterize all equivariant odd spectral triples for the quantum SU(2) group acting on its L_2-space and having a nontrivial Chern character. It is shown that the dimension of an equivariant spectral triple is at least three, and given any element of the K-homology group of SU_q(2), there is an equivariant odd spectral triple of dimension 3 inducing that element. The method employed to get equivariant spectral triples in the quantum case is then used for classical SU(2), and we prove that for p<4, there does not exist any equivariant spectral triple with nontrivial K-homology class and dim…
The quantum group $SU_q(\ell+1)$ has a canonical action on the odd dimensional sphere $S_q^{2\ell+1}$. All odd spectral triples acting on the $L_2$ space of $S_q^{2\ell+1}$ and equivariant under this action have been characterized. This characterization then leads to the construction of an optimum family of equivariant spectral triples having nontrivial $K$-homology class. These generalize the results of Chakraborty & Pal for $SU_q(2)$.
In general, Morita equivalence of spectral triples need not be a symmetric relation. In this paper, we show that Morita equivalence of spectral triples is an equivalence relation for equivariant torus spectral triples.
The torus group $(S^1)^{\ell+1}$ has a canonical action on the odd dimensional sphere $S_q^{2\ell+1}$. We take the natural Hilbert space representation where this action is implemented and characterize all odd spectral triples acting on that space and equivariant with respect to that action. This characterization gives a construction of an optimum family of equivariant spectral triples having nontrivial $K$-homology class thus generalizing our earlier results for $SU_q(2)$. We also relate the triple we construct with the $C^*$-extension \[ 0\longrightarrow \clk\otimes C(S^1)\longrightarrow C(S…
We explain the notion of minimality for an equivariant spectral triple and show that the triple for the quantum SU(2) group constructed by Chakraborty and Pal is minimal. We also give a decomposition of the spectral triple constructed by Dabrowski et al in terms of this minimal triple.
We formulate the notion of equivariance of an operator with respect to a covariant representation of a C^*-dynamical system. We then use a combinatorial technique used by the authors earlier in characterizing spectral triples for SU_q(2) to investigate equivariant spectral triples for two classes of spaces: the quantum groups SU_q(\ell+1) for \ell>1, and the odd dimensional quantum spheres S_q^{2\ell+1} of Vaksman & Soibelman. In the former case, a precise characterization of the sign and the singular values of an equivariant Dirac operator acting on the L_2 space is obtained. Using this, we t…
We explain the notion of minimality for an equivariant spectral triple and show that the triple for the quantum SU(2) group constructed by Chakraborty and Pal in \cite{c-p1} is minimal. We also give a decomposition of the spectral triple constructed by Dabrowski {\it et al} \cite{dlssv} in terms of the minimal triple constructed in \cite{c-p1}.
Given a spectral triple on a unital $C^{*}$-algebra $A$ and an equicontinuous action of a discrete group $G$ on $A$, a spectral triple on the reduced crossed product $C^{*}$-algebra $A\rtimes_r G$ was constructed by Hawkins, Skalski, White and Zacharias in [On spectral triples on crossed products arising from equicontinuous actions, Math. Scand. 113(2) (2013) 262-291], extending the construction by Belissard, Marcolli and Reihani in [Dynamical systems on spectral metric spaces, preprint (2010), arXiv:1008.4617], by using the Kasparov product to make an ansatz for the Dirac operator. Supposing …
We provide sufficient conditions to factorise an equivariant spectral triple as a Kasparov product of unbounded classes constructed from the group action on the algebra and from the fixed point spectral triple. Our results are for the action of compact abelian Lie groups, and we demonstrate them with examples from manifolds and $θ$-deformations. In particular we show that equivariant Dirac-type spectral triples on the total space of a torus principal bundle always factorise. We also present an example that shows what goes wrong in the absence of our sufficient conditions (and how we get around…
For G an almost-connected Lie group, we study G-equivariant index theory for proper co-compact actions with various applications, including obstructions to and existence of G-invariant Riemannian metrics of positive scalar curvature. We prove a rigidity result for almost-complex manifolds, generalising Hattori's results, and an analogue of Petrie's conjecture. When G is an almost-connected Lie group or a discrete group, we establish Poincare duality between G-equivariant K-homology and K-theory, observing that Poincare duality does not necessarily hold for general G.
This paper is the the third part of a series of paper whose aim is to use of the framework of \emph{twisted spectral triples} to study conformal geometry from a noncommutive geometric viewpoint. In this paper we reformulate the inequality of Vafa-Witten \cite{VW:CMP84} in the setting of twisted spectral triples. This involves a notion of Poincaré duality for twisted spectral triples. Our main results have various consequences. In particular, we obtain a version in conformal geometry of the original inequality of Vafa-Witten, in the sense of an explicit control of the Vafa-Witten bound under co…
Equivariant T-duality triples of locally compact abelian groups are considered. The motivating example dealing with the group $\R^n$ containing a lattice $\Z^n$ comes with an isomorphism in twisted equivariant K-theory.
We prove a local index formula in conformal geometry by computing the Connes-Chern character for the conformal Dirac (twisted) spectral triple recently constructed by Connes-Moscovici. Following an observation of Moscovici, the computation reduces to the computation of the CM cocycle of an equivariant Dirac (ordinary) spectral triple. This computation is obtained as a straightforward consequence of a new proof of the local equivariant index theorem of Patodi, Donelly-Patodi and Gilkey. This proof is obtained by combining Getzler's rescaling with an equivariant version of Greiner's approach to …
Let $T$ be the circle group and let $LT$ be its loop group. We formulate and investigate several topological aspects of the $LT$-equivariant index theory for proper $LT$-spaces, where proper $LT$-spaces are infinite-dimensional manifolds equipped with "proper cocompact" $LT$-actions. Concretely, we introduce "$\mathcal{R}KK$-theory for infinite-dimensional manifolds", and by using it, we formulate an infinite-dimensional version of the $KK$-theoretical Poincaré duality homomorphism, and an infinite-dimensional version of the $\mathcal{R}KK$-theory counterpart of the assembly map, for proper $L…
We consider the algebra $A$ of bounded operators on $L^2(\mathbb{R}^n)$ generated by quantizations of isometric affine canonical transformations. The algebra $A$ includes as subalgebras all noncommutative tori and toric orbifolds. We define the spectral triple $(A, H, D)$ with $H=L^2(\mathbb R^n, Λ(\mathbb R^n))$ and the Euler operator $D$, a first order differential operator of index $1$. We show that this spectral triple has simple dimension spectrum: For every operator $B$ in the algebra $Ψ(A,H,D)$ generated by the Shubin type pseudodifferential operators and the elements of $A$, the zeta f…
Let $T$ be a circle and $LT$ be its loop group. Let $\mathcal{M}$ be an infinite dimensional manifold equipped with a nice $LT$-action. We construct an analytic $LT$-equivariant index for $\mathcal{M}$, and justify it in terms of noncommutative geometry. More precisely, we construct a Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$ consisting of "$L^2$-sections of a Clifford module bundle" and a "Dirac operator" $\mathcal{D}$ which acts on $\mathcal{H}$. Then, we define an analytic index of $\mathcal{D}$ valued in the representation group of $LT$, so called Verlinde ring. We also define a "twisted crossed product…
Let G be a locally compact group. We describe elements of KK^G (A,B) by equivariant homomorphisms, following Cuntz's treatment in the non-equivariant case. This yields another proof for the universal property of KK^G: It is the universal split exact stable homotopy functor. To describe a Kasparov triple (E, phi, F) by an equivariant homomorphism, we have to arrange for the Fredholm operator F to be equivariant. This can be done if A is of the form K(L^2G) otimes A' and more generally if the group action on A is proper in the sense of Rieffel and Exel.
