The category of von Neumann correspondences from B to C (or von Neumann B-C-modules) is dual to the category of von Neumann correspondences from C' to B' via a functor that generalizes naturally the functor that sends a von Neumann algebra to its commutant and back. We further prove that the self-adjoint part of the predual is $1$-Plichko as well.
In this paper we study three aspects of (P(M)/~), the set of Murray-von Neumann equivalence classes of projections in a von Neumann algebra M. First we determine the topological structure that (P(M)/~) inherits from the operator topologies on M. Then we show that there is a version of the center-valued trace which extends the dimension function, even when M is not sigma-finite. Finally we prove that (P(M)/~) is a complete lattice, a fact which has an interesting reformulation in terms of representations.

We introduce "embedding dimensions" of a family of generators of a finite von Neumann algebra when the von Neumann algebra can be faithfully embedded into the ultrapower of the hyperfinite II$_1$ factor. We survey some of the progress made recently in the classification of von Neumann algebras arising from countable groups and their measure preserving actions on probability spaces. Let N and M be von Neumann subalgebras of a von Neumann algebra with finite probabilistic index in the sense of Pimsner-Popa. If N and M are sufficiently close, then N and M are unitarily equivalent. The implementing unitary can be chosen as being close to the identity.
