Let S and R be the rings of regular functions on affine algebraic varieties over a field of characteristic 0, R be embedded as a subring in S, and F : S --> S be an endomorphism such that F(R) subset R. Suppose that every ideal of height 1 in R generates a proper ideal in S, and the spectrum of R has no selfintersection points. We show that if F is an automorphism so is F|_R : R --> R. When R and S have the same transcendence degree then the fact that F|_R is an automorphisms implies that F is an automorphism.
Totally invariant divisors of endomorphisms of the projective space are expected to be always unions of linear spaces. Using logarithmic differentials we establish a lower bound for the degree of the non-normal locus of a totally invariant divisor. As a consequence we prove the linearity of totally invariant divisors for $\mathbb P^3$.
Consider the jacobian of a hyperelliptic genus two curve defined over a finite field. Under certain restrictions on the endomorphism ring of the jacobian we give an explicit description all non-degenerate, bilinear, anti-symmetric and Galois-invariant pairings on the jacobian. From this description it follows that no such pairing can be computed more efficiently than the Weil pairing. To establish this result, we need an explicit description of the representation of the Frobenius endomorphism on the l-torsion subgroup of the jacobian. This description is given. In particular, we show that if t…
We consider an arbitrary int-amplified surjective endomorphism $f$ of a normal projective variety $X$ over $\mathbb{C}$ and its $f^{-1}$-stable prime divisors. We extend the early result for the case of polarized endomorphisms to the case of int-amplified endomorphisms. Assume further that $X$ has at worst Kawamata log terminal singularities. We prove that the total number of $f^{-1}$-stable prime divisors has an optimal upper bound $\dim X+ρ(X)$, where $ρ(X)$ is the Picard number. Also, we give a sufficient condition for $X$ to be rationally connected and simply connected. Finally, by running…
It is expected that a totally invariant divisor of a non-isomorphic endomorphism of the complex projective space is a union of hyperplanes. In this paper, we compute an upper bound for the degree of such a divisor. As a consequence, we prove the linearity of totally invariant divisors with isolated singularities.
We classify noninvertible, holomorphic selfmaps of the projective plane that preserve an algebraic web. In doing so, we obtain interesting examples of critically finite maps.
We consider surjective endomorphisms f of degree > 1 on projective manifolds X of Picard number one and their f^{-1}-stable hypersurfaces V, and show that V is rationally chain connected. Also given is an optimal upper bound for the number of f^{-1}-stable prime divisors on (not necessarily smooth) projective varieties.
In this paper the invariant subring $R_n$ of an algebraic torus $T=(\mathbb{C}^\times)^r$ acting on the multi-homogenous polynomial ring $$S^{\boxtimes n}=\bigoplus_{d=0}^\infty (S^{(d)})^{\otimes n},$$ where $S^{(d)}$ is the $d$th graded piece of the polynomial ring $S=\mathbb{C}[x_1,\dots,x_k]$, is studied from the viewpoint of matrices whose entries sum to zero. Using these weight matrices we prove that there exists a $d_1$ such that for all positive integers $n$, the relations of the invariant subring $R_n$ are generated in multi-homogenous degree $\leq d_1$. We consider surjective endomorphisms f of degree > 1 on the projective n-space with n = 3, and f^{-1}-stable hypersurfaces V. We show that V is a hyperplane (i.e., deg(V) = 1) but with four possible exceptions; it is conjectured that deg(V) = 1 for any n > 1.
Let $(R, \mathfrak m)$ denote an $n$-dimensional Gorenstein ring. For an ideal $I \subset R$ of height $c$ we are interested in the endomorphism ring $B = \Hom_R(H^c_I(R), H^c_I(R)).$ It turns out that $B$ is a commutative ring. In the case of $(R,\mathfrak m)$ a regular local ring containing a field $B$ is a Cohen-Macaulay ring. Its properties are related to the highest Lyubeznik number $l = \dim_k \Ext_R^d(k,H^c_I(R)).$ In particular $R \simeq B$ if and only if $l = 1.$ Moreover, we show that the natural homomorphism $\Ext_R^d(k, H^c_I(R)) \to k$ is non-zero.
The rational cohomology of the moduli space of rank two, odd degree stable bundles over a curve (of genus g > 1) has been studied intensely in recent years and in particular the invariant subring generated by Newstead's generators alpha, beta, gamma. Several authors have independently found a minimal complete set of relations for this subring. Their methods are very different from the methods originally employed by Kirwan to prove Mumford's conjecture -- that relations derived from the vanishing Chern classes of a particular rank 2g-1 bundle are a complete set of relations for the entire cohom…
Denote the free group on two letters by F2 and the SL(3,C)-representation variety of F2 by R = Hom(F2, SL(3,C)). There is a SL(3,C)-action on the coordinate ring of R, and the geometric points of the subring of invariants is an affine variety X. We determine explicit minimal generators and defining relations for the subring of invariants and show X is a degree 6 hyper-surface in C9 mapping onto C8. Our choice of generators exhibit Out(F2) symmetries which allow for a succinct expression of the defining relations.
Given a polynomial $W$ with an isolated singularity, we can consider the Jacobian ring as an invariant of the singularity. If in addition we have a group action on the polynomial ring with $W$ fixed, we are led to consider the twisted Jacobian ring which reflects the equivariant structure as well. Our main result is to show that the twisted Jacobian ring is isomorphic to an endomorphism ring of the "twisted diagonal" matrix factorization. As an application, we suggest a way to investigate Floer theory of Lagrangian submanifolds which represent homological mirror functors.
Consider the representations of an algebraic group G. In general, polynomial invariant functions may fail to separate orbits. The invariant subring may not be finitely generated, or the number and complexity of the generators may grow rapidly with the size of the representation. We instead study "constructible" functions defined by straight line programs in the polynomial ring, with a new "quasi-inverse" that computes the inverse of a function where defined. We write straight line programs defining constructible functions that separate the orbits of G. The number of these programs and their le…
We introduce an algebraicity criteria. It has the following form: under certain conditions, an analytic subvariety of some algebriac variety over a global field $K$, if it contains many $K$-points, then it is algebraic over $K.$ This gives a way to show the transcendence of points via the transcendence of analytic subvarieties. Such a situation often appears when we have a dynamical system, because we can often produce infinitely many points from one point via iterates. Combing this criteria and the study of invariant subvarieties, we get some results on the transcendence in arithmetic dynamic…
Let $f \colon X \to X$ be a surjective endomorphism of a normal projective surface. When $\operatorname{deg} f \geq 2$, applying an (iteration of) $f$-equivariant minimal model program (EMMP), we determine the geometric structure of $X$. Using this, we extend the second author's result to singular surfaces to the extent that either $X$ has an $f$-invariant non-constant rational function, or $f$ has infinitely many Zariski-dense forward orbits; this result is also extended to Adelic topology (which is finer than Zariski topology).
When the base ring is not a field, power reductivity of a group scheme is a basic notion, intimately tied with finite generation of subrings of invariants. Geometric reductivity is weaker and less pertinent in this context. We give a survey of these properties and their connections.
We investigate how to compare Hochschild cohomology of algebras related by a Morita context. Interpreting a Morita context as a ring with distinguished idempotent, the key ingredient for such a comparison is shown to be the grade of the Morita defect, the quotient of the ring modulo the ideal generated by the idempotent. Along the way, we show that the grade of the stable endomorphism ring as a module over the endomorphism ring controls vanishing of higher groups of selfextensions, and explain the relation to various forms of the Generalized Nakayama Conjecture for Noetherian algebras. As appl…
