We show that in the study of certain convolution operators, functions can be replaced by measures without changing the size of the constants appearing in weak type (1,1) inequalities. As an application, we prove that the best constants for the centered Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator associated to parallelotopes do not decrease with the dimension.
We consider mapping properties of the iterated Stieltjes transform, establishing its new relations with the iterated Hilbert transform (a singular integral) on the half-axis and proving the corresponding convolution and Titchmarsh's type theorems. Moreover, the obtained convolution method is applied to solve a new class of singular integral equations.
We give a $L^2\times L^2 \rightarrow L^2$ convolution estimate for singular measures supported on transversal hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{R}^n$, which improves earlier results of Bejenaru, Herr & Tataru as well as Bejenaru & Herr. The arising quantities are relevant in the study of the validity of bilinear estimates for dispersive partial differential equations. We also prove a class of global, nonlinear Brascamp-Lieb inequalities with explicit constants in the same spirit.
We study a family of convolution operators whose kernels have a singularity on the unit sphere. As a result, we prove the regarding L^p-L^q Sobolev inequalities.
We prove that the classical one-parameter convolution singular integrals on the Heisenberg group are bounded on multiparameter flag Hardy spaces, which satisfy `intermediate' dilation between the one-parameter anisotropic dilation and the product dilation on $\mathbb{C}^{n}\times \mathbb{R}$ implicitly.
We consider a class of multiparameter singular Radon integral operators on the Heisenberg group ${\mathbb H}^1$ where the underlying variety is the graph of a polynomial. A remarkable difference with the euclidean case, where Heisenberg convolution is replaced by euclidean convolution, is that the operators on the Heisenberg group are always $L^2$ bounded. This is not the case in the euclidean setting where $L^2$ boundedness depends on the polynomial defining the underlying surface. Here we uncover some new, interesting phenomena. For example, although the Heisenberg group operators are always…
We present an intrinsically defined algebra of operators containing the right and left invariant Calderón-Zygmund operators on a stratified group. The operators in our algebra are pseudolocal and bounded on L^p (1<p<\infty). This algebra provides an example of an algebra of singular integrals that falls outside of the classical Calderón-Zygmund theory.
In this paper, we prove the pointwise convergence and the rate of pointwise convergence for a family of singular integral operators in two-dimensional setting in the following form: \begin{equation*} L_{λ}\left( f;x,y\right) =\underset{D}{\iint }f\left( t,s\right) K_{λ}\left( t-x,s-y\right) dsdt,\text{ }\left( x,y\right) \in D, \end{equation*} where $D=\left \langle a,b\right \rangle \times \left \langle c,d\right \rangle $ is an arbitrary closed, semi-closed or open rectangle in $\mathbb{R}^{2}$ and $% λ\in Λ,$ $Λ$ is a set of non-negative indices with accumulation point $λ_{0}$. Also, we pro…
Any sufficiently smooth one-dimensional Calderon-Zygmund convolution operator is the average of Haar shift operators. The latter are dyadic operators which can be efficiently expressed in terms of the Haar basis. This extends the result of S. Petermichl on restoring Hilbert transform via Haar shift operators, a technique that has become fundamental to the analysis of these operators.
In this paper we characterize BMO in terms of the boundedness of commutators of various bilinear singular integral operators with pointwise multiplication. In particular, we study commutators of a wide class of bilinear operators of convolution type, including bilinear Calderón-Zygmund operators and the bilinear fractional integral operators.
We establish the general form of a geometric comparison principle for $n$-fold convolutions of certain singular measures in $\mathbb{R}^d$ which holds for arbitrary $n$ and $d$. This translates into a pointwise inequality between the convolutions of projection measure on the paraboloid and a perturbation thereof, and we use it to establish a new sharp Fourier extension inequality on a general convex perturbation of a parabola. Further applications of the comparison principle to sharp Fourier restriction theory are discussed in a companion paper.
Let $Ω$ be homogeneous of degree zero and have mean value zero on the unit sphere ${S}^{n-1}$, $T_Ω$ be the convolution singular integral operator with kernel $\frac{Ω(x)}{|x|^n}$. For $b\in{\rm BMO}(\mathbb{R}^n)$, let $T_{Ω,\,b}$ be the commutator of $T_Ω$. In this paper, by establishing suitable sparse dominations, the authors establish some weak type endpoint estimates of $L\log L$ type for $T_{Ω,\,b}$ when $Ω\in L^q(S^{n-1})$ for some $q\in (1,\,\infty]$.
We prove a two weight theorem for alpha-fractional singular integrals in higher dimensions, assuming energy side conditions. We also show that reversal of the Energy Lemma fails for the vector Riesz transforms in the plane, as well as other collections of convolution Calderon-Zygmund operators in the plane, and when alpha = 1, even for the infinite vector of all classical 1-fractional Calderon-Zygmund operators.
Let $G$ be a compact, connected simple Lie group and $\mathfrak{g}$ its Lie algebra. It is known that if $μ$ is any $G$-invariant measure supported on an adjoint orbit in $\mathfrak{g}$, then for each integer $k$, the $k$% -fold convolution product of $μ$ with itself is either singular or in $% L^{2}$. This was originally proven by computations that depended on the Lie type of $\mathfrak{g}$, as well as properties of the measure. In this note, we observe that the validity of this dichotomy is a direct consequence of the Duistermaat-Heckman theorem from symplectic geometry and that, in fact, an…
We prove sharp $L^p(w)$ norm inequalities for the intrinsic square function (introduced recently by M. Wilson) in terms of the $A_p$ characteristic of $w$ for all $1<p<\infty$. This implies the same sharp inequalities for the classical Lusin area integral $S(f)$, the Littlewood-Paley $g$-function, and their continuous analogs $S_ψ$ and $g_ψ$. Also, as a corollary, we obtain sharp weighted inequalities for any convolution Calderón-Zygmund operator for all $1<p\le 3/2$ and $3\le p<\infty$, and for its maximal truncations for $3\le p<\infty$.
In this paper we study Coifman type estimates and weighted norm inequalities for singular integral operators $T$ and its commutators, given by the convolution with a vector valued kernel $K$. We define a weaker Hörmander type condition associated with Young functions for the vector valued kernels. With this general framework we obtain as an example the result for the square operator and its commutator given in [ M. Lorente, M.S. Riveros, A. de la Torre \emph{On the Coifman type inequality for the oscillation of the one-sided averages }, Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, Vol 33…
Let $\mathbb{G}$ be any Carnot group. We prove that if a convolution type singular integral associated with a $1$-dimensional Calderón-Zygmund kernel is $L^2$-bounded on horizontal lines, with uniform bounds, then it is bounded in $L^p, p \in (1,\infty),$ on any compact $C^{1,α}, α\in (0,1],$ regular curve in $\mathbb{G}$.
In this paper, we prove that for $\frac{n}{2}+\frac{1}{4}<α\leq\frac{n+1}{2} $, the convolution operator $$S_α f(x)=\int_{|y| \geq 1} f(x-y)\left(|y|^{2}-1\right)^{-α} d y$$ is bounded from $L^p$ to $L^q$ for certain values of $p$ and $q$.
In this paper, we first discuss the convolution series that are generated by the Sonine kernels from a class of functions continuous on the real positive semi-axis that have an integrable singularity of power function type at the point zero. These convolution series are closely related to the general fractional integrals and derivatives with the Sonine kernels and represent a new class of the special functions of Fractional Calculus. The Mittag-Leffler functions as solutions to the fractional differential equations with the fractional derivatives of both Riemann-Liouville and Caputo types are …
We consider the convolution operator for a measure supported on complex curves. The measure which we consider here is an analogue of the affine arclength measure for real curves. By modifying a combinatorial argument called the band structure argument, we prove the (nearly) optimal Lorentz space estimates. This includes the optimal strong type estimates as special cases. The complex curves we consider here are the ones considered for the Fourier restriction estimates for complex curves in \cite{BH}.
We study the regularity of convolution powers for measures supported on Salem sets, and prove related results on Fourier restriction and Fourier multipliers. In particular we show that for $α$ of the form ${d}/{n}, n=2,3,\cdots$ there exist $α$-Salem measures for which the $L^2$ Fourier restriction theorem holds in the range $p\le \frac{2d}{2d-α}$. The results rely on ideas of Körner. We extend some of his constructions to obtain upper regular $α$-Salem measures, with sharp regularity results for $n$-fold convolutions for all $n\in \mathbb N$.
The $L^q$ dimensions, for $1<q<\infty$, quantify the degree of smoothness of a measure. We study the following problem on the real line: when does the $L^q$ dimension improve under convolution? This can be seen as a variant of the well-known $L^p$-improving property. Our main result asserts that uniformly perfect measures (which include Ahlfors-regular measures as a proper subset) have the property that convolving with them results in a strict increase of the $L^q$ dimension. We also study the case $q=\infty$, which corresponds to the supremum of the Frostman exponents of the measure. We obtai…
We prove that the set of exceptional $λ\in (1/2,1)$ such that the associated Bernoulli convolution is singular has zero Hausdorff dimension, and likewise for biased Bernoulli convolutions, with the exceptional set independent of the bias. This improves previous results by Erdös, Kahane, Solomyak, Peres and Schlag, and Hochman. A theorem of this kind is also obtained for convolutions of homogeneous self-similar measures. The proofs are very short, and rely on old and new results on the dimensions of self-similar measures and their convolutions, and the decay of their Fourier transform.
A Fuchsian system of rank 8 in 3 variables with 4 parameters is presented. The singular locus consists of six planes and a cubic surface. The restriction of the system onto the intersection of two singular planes is an ordinary differential equation of order four with three singular points. A middle convolution of this equation turns out to be the tensor product of two Gauss hypergeometric equation, and another middle convolution sends this equation to the Dotsenko-Fateev equation. Local solutions to these ordinary differential equations are found. Their coefficients are sums of products of th…
We show that for an entire function $φ$ belonging to the Fock space ${\mathscr F}^2(\mathbb{C}^n)$ on the complex Euclidean space $\mathbb{C}^n$, the integral operator \begin{eqnarray*} S_φF(z)=\int_{\mathbb{C}^n} F(w) e^{z \cdot\bar{w}} φ(z- \bar{w})\,dλ(w), \ \ \ \ \ z\in \mathbb{C}^n, \end{eqnarray*} is bounded on ${\mathscr F}^2(\mathbb{C}^n)$ if and only if there exists a function $m\in L^{\infty}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ such that $$ φ(z)=\int_{\mathbb{R}^n} m(x)e^{-2\left(x-\frac{i}{2} z \right)\cdot \left(x-\frac{i}{2} z \right)} dx, \ \ \ \ \ \ z\in \mathbb{C}^n. $$ Here $dλ(w)= π^{-n}e^{-\left…
The index Whittaker convolution operator, recently introduced by the authors, gives rise to a convolution measure algebra having the property that the convolution of probability measures is a probability measure. In this paper, we introduce the class of Lévy processes with respect to the index Whittaker convolution and study their basic properties. We prove that the square root of the Shiryaev process belongs to our family of Lévy process, and this is shown to yield a martingale characterization of the Shiryaev process analogous to Lévy's characterization of Brownian motion. Our results demons…
This article is devoted to the extension of the theory of rough paths in the context of Volterra equations with possibly singular kernels. We begin to describe a class of two parameter functions defined on the simplex called Volterra paths. These paths are used to construct a so-called Volterra-signature, analogously to the signature used in Lyon's theory of rough paths. We provide a detailed algebraic and analytic description of this object. Interestingly, the Volterra signature does not have a multiplicative property similar to the classical signature, and we introduce an integral product be…
We introduce a unified framework for the construction of convolutions and product formulas associated with a general class of regular and singular Sturm-Liouville boundary value problems. Our approach is based on the application of the Sturm-Liouville spectral theory to the study of the associated hyperbolic equation. As a by-product, an existence and uniqueness theorem for degenerate hyperbolic Cauchy problems with initial data at a parabolic line is established. The mapping properties of convolution operators generated by Sturm-Liouville operators are studied. Analogues of various notions an…
Let $\{ A_k\}_{k=1}^\infty$ be a sequence of finite subsets of $\mathbb{R}^d$ satisfying that $\# A_k \ge 2$ for all integers $k \ge 1$. In this paper, we first give a sufficient and necessary condition for the existence of the infinite convolution $$ν=δ_{A_1}*δ_{A_2} * \cdots *δ_{A_n}*\cdots, $$ where all sets $A_k \subseteq \mathbb{R}_+^d$ and $δ_A = \frac{1}{\# A} \sum_{a \in A} δ_a$. Then we study the spectrality of a class of infinite convolutions generated by Hadamard triples in $\mathbb{R}$ and construct a class of singular spectral measures without compact support. Finally we show that…
In this article, we study the convolution operators $M_k$ with oscillatory kernel, which are related to solutions to the Cauchy problem for the strictly hyperbolic equations. The operator $M_k$ is associated to the characteristic hypersurfaces $Σ\subset \mathbb{R}^3$ of a hyperbolic equation and smooth amplitude function, which is homogeneous of order $-k$ for large values of the argument. We study the convolution operators assuming that the corresponding amplitude function is contained in a sufficiently small conic neighborhood of a given point $v\in Σ$ at which exactly one of the principal c…
We show that in many parametrized families of self-similar measures, their projections, and their convolutions, the set of parameters for which the measure fails to be absolutely continuous is very small - of co-dimension at least one in parameter space. This complements an active line of research concerning similar questions for dimension. Moreover, we establish some regularity of the density outside this small exceptional set, which applies in particular to Bernoulli convolutions; along the way, we prove some new results about the dimensions of self-similar measures and the absolute continui…
Given a real-analytic function b(x) defined on a neighborhood of the origin with b(0) = 0, we consider local convolutions with kernels which are bounded by |b(x)|^(-a), where a > 0 is the smallest number for which |b(x)|^(-a) is not integrable on any neighborhood of the origin. Under appropriate first derivative bounds and a cancellation condition, we prove L^p boundedness theorems for such operators including when the kernel is not integrable. We primarily (but not exclusively) consider the p = 2 situation. The operators considered generalize both local versions of Riesz transforms and some l…
In this paper we show that under suitable conditions on their Fourier--Bohr coefficients, the twisted Eberlein convolution of a measure with pure point diffraction spectra and a measure with continuous diffraction spectra is zero. In particular, the diffraction spectrum of a linear combinations of the two measures is simply the linear combinations of the two diffraction spectra with absolute value square coefficients.
About two dozens of exactly solvable Markov chains on one-dimensional finite and semi-infinite integer lattices are constructed in terms of convolutions of orthogonality measures of the Krawtchouk, Hahn, Meixner, Charlier, $q$-Hahn, $q$-Meixner and little $q$-Jacobi polynomials. By construction, the stationary probability distributions, the complete sets of eigenvalues and eigenvectors are provided by the polynomials and the orthogonality measures. An interesting property possessed by these stationary probability distributions, called `convolutional self-similarity,' is demonstrated.
