We prove a new selection theorem for multivalued mappings of C-space. Using this theorem we prove extension dimensional version of Hurewicz theorem for a closed mapping $f\colon X\to Y$ of $k$-space $X$ onto paracompact $C$-space $Y$: if for finite $CW$-complex $M$ we have $\ed Y\le [M]$ and for every point $y\in Y$ and every compactum $Z$ with $\ed Z\le [M]$ we have $\ed(f^{-1}(y)\times Z)\le [L]$ for some $CW$-complex $L$, then $\ed X\le [L]$.
In this paper, we develop homology groups for digital images based on cubical singular homology theory for topological spaces. Using this homology, we present digital Hurewicz theorem for the fundamental group of digital images. We also show that the homology functors developed in this paper satisfy properties that resemble the Eilenberg-Steenrod axioms of homology theory, in particular, the homotopy and the excision axioms. We finally define axioms of digital homology theory.
We fill a lacuna in the literature by giving a version in dimension 1 of the Relative Hurewicz Theorem, and relate this to abelianisations of groupoids, covering spaces and covering morphisms of groupoids, and Crowell's notion of derived modules.
This is about Curtis conjecture on the image of the Hurewicz map $h:{_2π_*}Q_0S^0\to H_*(Q_0S^0;\Z/2)$. First, we show that if $f\in{_2π_*^s}$ is of Adams filtration at least $3$ with $h(f)\neq 0$ then $f$ is not a decomposable element in ${_2π_*^s}$. Moreover, it is shown if $k$ is the least positive integer that $f$ is represented by a cycle in $\mathrm{Ext}^{k,k+n}_A(\Z/2,\Z/2)$, then (i) if $e_*h(f)\neq 0$ then $n\geqslant 2^k-1$; (ii) if $e_*h(f)=0$ then $n\geqslant 2^k-2^t$ for some $t>1$. Second, for $S\subseteq{_2π_{*>0}^s}$ we show that: (i) if the conjecture holds on $S$, then it hol…
We study the Hurewicz map h from the homotopy groups of a spectrum X to the R-homology of its 0th space X(0), where R is a connective commutative S-algebra. We prove that the decreasing filtration of the domain of h associated to an R-based Adams resolution is compatible with the augmentation ideal filtration of the range associated to the suspension spectrum of X(0)_+, an augmented commutative S-algebra. The proof makes use of the interplay of this filtration with Topological Andre Quillen Homology. An application is a Connectivity Theorem: Localize at a prime p and suppose X is (c-1)-connect…
We characterize the Hurewicz cofibrations between finite topological spaces, that is, the continuous functions between finite topological spaces that have the homotopy extension property with respect to all topological spaces. In particular, we show that cofibrations between connected non-empty finite topological spaces are homotopy equivalences. As a consequence of our characterization, we obtain a simple algorithm capable of determining whether a given continuous function between finite topological spaces is a cofibration.
The paper is devoted to generalizations of Cencelj-Dranishnikov theorems relating extension properties of nilpotent CW complexes to its homology groups. Here are the main results of the paper: \par {\bf Theorem}. Suppose $L$ is a nilpotent CW complex and $F$ is the homotopy fiber of the inclusion $i$ of $L$ into its infinite symmetric product $SP(L)$. If $X$ is a metrizable space such that $XτK(H_k(L),k)$ for all $k\ge 1$, then $XτK(π_k(F),k)$ and $XτK(π_k(L),k)$ for all $k\ge 2$. \par {\bf Theorem}. Let $X$ be a metrizable space such that $\dim(X) < \infty$ or $X\in ANR$. Suppose $L$ is a nil…

We give estimates for the torsion in the Postnikov sections $τ_{[1, n]} S^0$ of the sphere spectrum, and show that the $p$-localization is annihilated by $p^{n/(2p-2) + O(1)}$. This leads to explicit bounds on the exponents of the kernel and cokernel of the Hurewicz map $π_*(X) \to H_*(X; \mathbb{Z})$ for a connective spectrum $X$. Such bounds were first considered by Arlettaz, although our estimates are tighter and we prove that they are the best possible up to a constant factor. As applications, we sharpen existing bounds on the orders of $k$-invariants in a connective spectrum, sharpen boun…
Let $f:E\longrightarrow O$ be a Hurewicz fibration with a fiber space $F_{r_{o}}$ and a lifting function $L_{f}$. The \emph{$Lf-$function} $Θ_{L_{f}}$ of $f$ is defined by the restriction map of $L_{f}$ on the space $Ω(O,r_{o})\times F_{r_{o}}\times \{1\}$. The purpose of this paper is to give some results which show the role of $Lf-$functions in finding a fiber homotopically equivalent relation between two fibrations, over a common polyhedron base. Furthermore we will prove the equivalently between our results and Dold's theorem in fiber bundles, over a common suspension base of polyhedron sp…
We study "canonical weight decompositions" slightly generalizing that defined by J. Wildeshaus. For an triangulated category $C$, any integer $n$, and a weight structure $w$ on $C$ a triangle $LM\to M\to RM\to LM[1]$, where $LM$ is of weights at most $m-1$ and $RM$ is of weights at least $n+1$ for some $m\le n$, is determined by $M$ if exists. This happens if and only if the weight complex $t(M)\in Obj K(Hw)$ ($Hw$ is the heart of $w$) is homotopy equivalent to a complex with zero terms in degrees $-n,\dots, -m$; hence this condition can be "detected" via pure functors. One can also take $m=-\…
This note is on spherical classes in $H_*(QS^0;k)$ when $k=\mathbb{Z},\mathbb{Z}/p$ with a special focus on the case of $p=2$ related to Curtis conjecture. We apply Freudenthal theorem to prove a vanishing result for the Hurewicz image of elements in ${π_*^s}$ that factor through certain finite spectra. Either in $p$-local or $p$-complete settings, this immediately implies that elements of well known infinite families in ${_pπ_*^s}$, such as Mahowaldean families, map trivially under the unstable Hurewicz homomorphism ${_pπ_*^s}\simeq{_pπ_*}QS^0\to H_*(QS^0;\mathbb{Z}/p)$. We also observe that …
Let $f : X \lo Y$ be a map of compact metric spaces. A classical theorem of Hurewicz asserts that $\dim X \leq \dim Y +\dim f$ where $\dim f =\sup \{\dim f^{-1}(y): y \in Y \}$. The first author conjectured that {\em $\dim Y + \dim f$ in Hurewicz's theorem can be replaced by $\sup \{\dim (Y \times f^{-1}(y)): y \in Y \}$}. We disprove this conjecture. As a by-product of the machinery presented in the paper we answer in negative the following problem posed by the first author: {\em Can for compact $X$ the Menger-Urysohn formula $\dim X \leq \dim A + \dim B +1$ be improved to $\dim X \leq \dim (…
We study fibred spaces with fibres in a structure category $\V$ and we show that cellular approximation, Blakers--Massey theorem, Whitehead theorems, obstruction theory, Hurewicz homomorphism, Wall finiteness obstruction, and Whitehead torsion theorem hold for fibred spaces. For this we introduce the cohomology of fibred spaces.
Let $p$ be a prime. We calculate the connective unitary K-theory of the smash product of two copies of the classifying space for the cyclic group of order $p$, using a Künneth formula short exact sequence. As a corollary, using the Bott exact sequence and the mod $2$ Hurewicz homomorphism we calculate the connective orthogonal K-theory of the smash product of two copies of the classifying space for the cyclic group of order two.
It is known algebraically that any abelian group is a direct sum of a divisible group and a reduced group (See Theorem 21.3 of \cite{Fuchs:abelian-group}). In this paper, conditions to split off rational parts in homotopy types from a given space are studied in terms of a variant of Hurewicz map, say $\barρ : [S_{\Q}^{n},X] \to H_n(X;\Z)$ and generalized Gottlieb groups. This yields decomposition theorems on rational homotopy types of Hopf spaces, $T$-spaces and Gottlieb spaces, which has been known in various situations, especially for spaces with finiteness conditions.
Let ΩX be the space of Moore loops on a finite, q-connected, n-dimensional CW complex X, and let R be a subring of Q containing 1/2. Let p(R) be the least non-invertible prime in R. For a graded R-module M of finite type, let FM = M / Torsion M. We show that the inclusion of the sub-Lie algebra P of primitive elements of FH_*(ΩX;R) induces an isomorphism of Hopf algebras UP = FH_*(ΩX;R), provided p(R) > n/q - 1. Furthermore, the Hurewicz homomorphism induces an embedding of F(π_*(ΩX)\otimes R) in P, with torsion cokernel. As a corollary, if X is elliptic, then FH_*(ΩX;R) is a finitely-generate…
Let $G$ be a group and $R,S,T$ its normal subgroups. There is a natural extension of the concept of commutator subgroup for the case of three subgroups $\|R,S,T\|$ as well as the natural extension of the symmetric product $\|\bf r,\bf s,\bf t\|$ for corresponding ideals $\bf r,\bf s, \bf t$ in the integral group ring $\mathbb Z[G]$. In this paper, it is shown that the generalized dimension subgroup $G\cap (1+\|\bf r,\bf s,\bf t\|)$ has exponent 2 modulo $\|R,S,T\|.$ The proof essentially uses homotopy theory. The considered generalized dimension quotient of exponent 2 is identified with a subg…
Working in the context of symmetric spectra, we describe and study a homotopy completion tower for algebras and left modules over operads in the category of modules over a commutative ring spectrum (e.g., structured ring spectra). We prove a strong convergence theorem that for 0-connected algebras and modules over a (-1)-connected operad, the homotopy completion tower interpolates (in a strong sense) between topological Quillen homology and the identity functor. By systematically exploiting strong convergence, we prove several theorems concerning the topological Quillen homology of algebras an…
The dimension algebra of graded groups is introduced. With the help of known geometric results of extension theory that algebra induces all known results of the cohomological dimension theory. Elements of the algebra are equivalence classes $\dim(A)$ of graded groups $A$. There are two geometric interpretations of those equivalence classes: \linebreak 1. For pointed CW complexes $K$ and $L$, $\dim(H_\ast(K))=\dim(H_\ast(L))$ if and only if the infinite symmetric products $SP(K)$ and $SP(L)$ are of the same extension type (i.e., $SP(K)\in AE(X)$ iff $SP(L)\in AE(X)$ for all compact $X$). \lineb…
We prove that the stabilization of spaces functor---the classical construction of associating a spectrum to a pointed space by tensoring with the sphere spectrum---satisfies homotopical descent on objects and morphisms. This is the stabilization analog of the Quillen-Sullivan theory main result that the rational chains (resp. cochains) functor participates in a derived equivalence with certain coalgebra (resp. algebra) complexes, after restriction to 1-connected spaces up to rational equivalence. In more detail, we prove that the stabilization of spaces functor participates in a derived equiva…
This paper introduces proximal homotopic cycles, which lead to the main results in this paper, namely, extensions of the Mitsuishi-Yamaguchi Good Coverning Theorem with different forms of Tanaka good cover of an Alexandrov space equipped with a proximity relation and extensions of the Jordan curve theorem. An application of these results is also given.
In this paper we define and study a notion of discrete homology theory for metric spaces. Instead of working with simplicial homology, our chain complexes are given by Lipschitz maps from an $n$-dimensional cube to a fixed metric space. We prove that the resulting homology theory verifies a discrete analogue of the Eilenberg-Steenrod axioms, and prove a discrete analogue of the Mayer-Vietoris exact sequence. Moreover, this discrete homology theory is related to the discrete homotopy theory of a metric space through a discrete analogue of the Hurewicz theorem. We study the class of groups that …
