The set of all artin level quotients of a polynomial algebra in n variables having specified socle degree and type admits a parameter space. It is in fact a quasiprojective variety, naturally embedded in a Grassmannian. We give a geometric description of this variety in the case of two variables. Then we give some sufficient conditions for the parameter variety to be projectively normal in the Plucker embedding.
We give a new and elementary proof of the nested Artin approximation Theorem for linear equations with algebraic power series coefficients. Moreover, for any Noetherian local subring of the ring of formal power series, we clarify the relationship between this theorem and the problem of the com-mutation of two operations for ideals: the operation of replacing an ideal by its completion and the operation of replacing an ideal by one of its elimination ideals.
Using notions of homogeneity we give new proofs of M. Artin's algebraicity criteria for functors and groupoids. Our methods give a more general result, unifying Artin's two theorems and clarifying their differences.
This article contains a slightly expanded version of the lectures given by the author at the summer school "Algebraic stacks and related topics" in Mainz, Germany from August 31 to September 4, 2015. The content of these lectures is purely expository and consists of two main goals. First, we provide a treatment of Artin's approximation and algebraization theorems following the ideas of Conrad and de Jong which rely on a deep desingularization result due to Neron and Popescu. Second, we prove that under suitable hypotheses, algebraic stacks are etale locally quotients stacks in a neighborhood o…
In this paper we consider Artin local K-algebras with maximal length in the class of Artin algebras with given embedding dimension and socle type. They have been widely studied by several authors, among others by Iarrobino, Fröberg and Laksov. If the local K-algebra is Gorenstein of socle degree 3, then the authors proved that it is canonically graded, i.e. analytically isomorphic to its associated graded ring. This unexpected result has been extended to compressed level K-algebras of socle degree 3 by A. De Stefani. In this paper we end the investigation proving that extremal Artin Gorenstein…
Let $A$ be a Koszul Artin-Schelter regular algebra with Nakayama automorphism $ξ$. We show that the Yoneda Ext-algebra of the skew polynomial algebra $A[z;ξ]$ is a trivial extension of a Frobenius algebra. Then we prove that $A[z;ξ]$ is Calabi-Yau; and hence each Koszul Artin Schelter regular algebra is a subalgebra of a Koszul Calabi-Yau algebra. A superpotential $\hat{w}$ is also constructed so that the Calabi-Yau algebra $A[z;ξ]$ is isomorphic to the derivation quotient of $\hat{w}$. The Calabi-Yau property of a skew polynomial algebra with coefficients in a PBW-deformation of a Koszul Arti…
The purpose of this paper is to study families of Artinian or one dimensional quotients of a polynomial ring $R$ with a special look to level algebras. Let $\GradAlg^H(R)$ be the scheme parametrizing graded quotients of $R$ with Hilbert function $H$. Let $B \to A$ be any graded surjection of quotients of $R$ with Hilbert function $H_B$ and $H_A$, and h-vectors $h_B=(1,h_1,...,h_j,...)$ and $h_A$, respectively. If $\depth A = \dim A \leq 1$ and $A$ is a ``truncation'' of $B$ in the sense that $h_A=(1,h_1,...,h_{j-1},α,0,0,...)$ for some $α\leq h_j$, then we show there is a close relationship be…
We give a variant of Artin algebraization along closed subschemes and closed substacks. Our main application is the existence of étale, smooth, or syntomic neighborhoods of closed subschemes and closed substacks. In particular, we prove local structure theorems for stacks and their derived counterparts and the existence of henselizations along linearly fundamental closed substacks. These results establish the existence of Ferrand pushouts, which answers positively a question of Temkin-Tyomkin.
Using formal-local methods, we prove that a separated and normal tame Artin surface has the resolution property. By proving that normal tame Artin stacks can be rigidified, we ultimately reduce our analysis to establishing the existence of Azumaya algebras. Our construction passes through the case of tame Artin gerbes, tame Artin curves, and algebraic space surfaces, each of which we establish independently.
In a recent paper it has been established that over an Artinian ring R all two-dimensional polynomial automorphisms having Jacobian determinant one are tame if R is a Q-algebra. This is a generalization of the famous Jung-Van der Kulk Theorem, which deals with the case that R is a field (of any characteristic). Here we will show that for tameness over an Artinian ring, the Q-algebra assumption is really needed: we will give, for local Artinian rings with square-zero principal maximal ideal, a complete description of the tame automorphism subgroup. This will lead to an example of a non-tame aut…
Since the work of Mikhail Kapranov in [Kap], it is known that the shifted tangent complex $\mathbb{T}_X[-1]$ of a smooth algebraic variety $X$ is endowed with a weak Lie structure. Moreover any complex of quasi-coherent sheaves on $X$ is endowed with a weak Lie action of this tangent Lie algebra. This action is given by the Atiyah class of $E$. We will generalize this result to (finite enough) derived Artin stacks, without any smoothness assumption. This in particular applies to (finite enough) singular schemes. This work uses tools of both derived algebraic geometry and $\infty$-category theo…
This paper uses noncommutative resolutions of non-Gorenstein singularities to construct classical deformation spaces, by recovering the Artin component of the deformation space of a cyclic surface singularity using only the quiver of the corresponding reconstruction algebra. The relations of the reconstruction algebra are then deformed, and the deformed relations together with variation of the GIT quotient achieve the simultaneous resolution. This extends work of Brieskorn, Kronheimer, Grothendieck, Cassens-Slodowy and Crawley-Boevey-Holland into the setting of singularities $\mathbb{C}^2/H$ w…
We determine the possible Hilbert functions of graded rank one torsion free modules over three dimensional Artin-Schelter regular algebras. It turns out that, as in the commutative case, they are related to Castelnuovo functions. From this we obtain an intrinsic proof that the space of torsion free rank one modules on a non-commutative projective plane is connected. A different proof of this fact, based on deformation theoretic methods and the known commutative case has recently been given by Nevins and Stafford. For the Weyl algebra it was proved by Wilson.
This paper is largely concerned with constructing coarse moduli spaces for Artin stacks. The main purpose of this paper is to introduce the notion of stability on an arbitrary Artin stack and construct a coarse moduli space for the open substack of stable points. Also, we present an application to coherent cohomology of Artin stacks.
In this paper, we present a noncommutative scheme theory for the semi-graded rings generated in degree one defined by Lezama and Latorre \cite{LezamaLatorre2017} following the ideas about schematicness introduced by Van Oystaeyen and Willaert \cite{VanOystaeyenWillaert1995} for $\mathbb{N}$-graded algebras. With this theory, we prove the Serre-Artin-Zhang-Verevkin theorem \cite{ArtinZhang1994, EGAII1961, Hartshorne1977, Serre1955, Verevkin1992a, Verevkin1992} for several families of non-$\mathbb{N}$-graded algebras and finitely non-$\mathbb{N}$-graded algebras appearing in ring theory and nonc…
We start by developing a theory of noncommutative (=NC) mixed motives with coefficients in any commutative ring. In particular, we construct a symmetric monoidal triangulated category of NC mixed motives, over a base field k, and a full subcategory of NC mixed Artin motives. Making use of Hochschild homology, we then apply Ayoub's weak Tannakian formalism to these motivic categories. In the case of NC mixed motives, we obtain a motivic Hopf dg algebra, which we describe explicitly in terms of Hochschild homology and complexes of exact cubes. In the case of NC mixed Artin motives, we compute th…
In this paper, we proved that the F_p completioin of fundamental group of an F_p shceme can be computed by the bar complex of Artien-Schreier differential graded algebra. Artin-Schreier differential graded algebra is obtained by a relation diagram of identity map and frobenius map by Kats' theorem.
We prove Artin's axioms satisfy a compatibility for composition of 1-morphisms of stacks in groupoids. Consequently, some natural stacks in groupoids are algebraic, including a common generalization of Vistoli's Hilbert stack and the stack of branchvarieties of Alexeev and Knutson.
