The Klein-Gordon - Schroedinger system with Yukawa coupling is shown to have a unique global solution for rough data, which not necessarily have finite energy. The proof uses a generalized bilinear estimate of Strichartz type and Bourgain's idea to split the data into low and high frequency parts.
It is shown that the spatial Sobolev norms of regular global solutions of the (2+1),(3+1) and (4+1)-dimensional Klein-Gordon-Schroedinger system and the (2+1) and (3+1)-dimensional Zakharov system grow at most polynomially with the bound depending on the regularity class of the data. The proof uses the Fourier restriction norm method.
We obtain certain time decay and regularity estimates for 3D Schroedinger equation with a potential in the Kato class by using Besov spaces associated with Schroedinger operators.
The Cauchy problem for a coupled Schroedinger and Benjamin - Ono system is shown to be globally well-posed for a class of data without finite energy. The proof uses the I-method introduced by Colliander, Keel, Staffilani, Takaoka, and Tao.
We consider finite energy solutions to the nonlinear Schroedinger equation and nonlinear Klein--Gordon equation and find the condition on the nonlinearity so that the standard, one-frequency solitary waves are the only solutions with compact spectrum. We also construct an example of a four-frequency solitary wave solution to the nonlinear Dirac equation in three dimensions.
We prove L^1 --> L^\infty estimates for the linear Schroedinger equation in three dimensions. The potential is assumed to belong to certain L^p spaces, but no pointwise decay estimates and no additional regularity is required.
We prove that finite energy solutions to the nonlinear Schroedinger equation and nonlinear Klein--Gordon equation which have the compact time spectrum have to be one-frequency solitary waves. The argument is based on the generalization of the Titchmarsh convolution theorem to partial convolutions.
The Cauchy problem for a coupled system of the Schroedinger and the KdV equation is shown to be globally well-posed for data with infinite energy. The proof uses refined bilinear Strichartz estimates and the I-method introduced by Colliander, Keel, Staffilani, Takaoka, and Tao.
We obtain a dispersive long-time decay in weighted energy norms for solutions of 3D Klein-Gordon equation with magnetic and scalar potentials. The decay extends the results obtained by Jensen and Kato for the Schroedinger equation with scalar potential. For the proof we develop the spectral theory of Agmon, Jensen and Kato and minimal escape velocities estimates of Hunziker, Sigal and Soffer.
We prove scattering of solutions below the energy norm of the 3D Klein-Gordon equation for 5>p>3. In order to do that, we generate an exponential-type decay estimate in H^{s}, s<1, by means of concentration and a low-high frequency decomposition.
We prove global existence and scattering for the defocusing, cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation in $H^s(\rr^3)$ for $s > {4/5}$. The main new estimate in the argument is a Morawetz-type inequality for the solution $ϕ$. This estimate bounds $\|ϕ(x,t)\|_{L^4_{x,t}(\rr^3 \times \rr)}$, whereas the well-known Morawetz-type estimate of Lin-Strauss controls $\int_0^{\infty}\int_{\rr^3}\frac{(ϕ(x,t))^4}{|x|} dx dt
In this paper we study Strichartz estimates for the half wave, the half Klein-Gordon and the Dirac Equations on compact manifolds without boundary, proving in particular for each of these flows local in time estimates both for the wave and Schroedinger admissible couples (in this latter case with an additional loss of regularity). The strategy for the proof is based on a refined version of the WKB approximation.
The purpose of this note is to use the results and methods of our previous work with Bourgain to obtain control and observability by rough functions and sets on rectangular 2-tori. We show that any Lebesgue measurable set of positive measure can be used for observability for the Schroedinger equation. This leads to controllability with rough localization and control functions. For non-empty open sets this follows from the results of Haraux '89 and Jaffard '89 while for square tori and sufficiently long times this can be deduced from the results of Jakobson '97.
This paper proves endpoint Strichartz estimates for the linear Schroedinger equation in $R^3$, with a time-dependent potential that keeps a constant profile and is subject to a rough motion, which need not be differentiable and may be large in norm. The potential is also subjected to a time-dependent rescaling, with a non-differentiable dilation parameter. We use the Strichartz estimates to prove the non-dispersion of bound states, when the path is small in norm, as well as boundedness of energy. We also include a sample nonlinear application of the linear results.
In this paper we establish an almost optimal well-posedness and regularity theory for the Klein-Gordon-Schrödinger system on the half line. In particular we prove local-in-time well-posedness for rough initial data in Sobolev spaces of negative indices. Our results are consistent with the sharp well-posedness results that exist in the full line case and in this sense appear to be sharp. Finally we prove a global well-posedness result by combining the $L^2$ conservation law of the Schrödinger part with a careful iteration of the rough wave part in lower order Sobolev norms.
The long-time asymptotics is analyzed for all finite energy solutions to a model U(1)-invariant nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation in one dimension, with the nonlinearity concentrated at a single point: each finite energy solution converges as time goes to plus or minus infinity to the set of all ``nonlinear eigenfunctions'' of the form $ψ(x)e\sp{-iωt}$. The global attraction is caused by the nonlinear energy transfer from lower harmonics to the continuous spectrum and subsequent dispersive radiation. We justify this mechanism by the following novel strategy based on inflation of spectrum by the …
We show an improved global well-posedness result for the Zakharov system in two space dimensions with minimal regularity assumptions for the data. Especially we are able to allow Schroedinger and wave data, which do not belong to H^1 and L^2, respectively, thus with infinite energy. The proof uses a refined I-method originally initiated by Colliander, Keel, Staffilani, Takaoka and Tao and bilinear estimates by Bejenaru, Herr, Holmer and Tataru. A polynomial growth bound for the solution is also given.
Roughly speaking a solitary wave is a solution of a field equation whose energy travels as a localized packet and which preserves this localization in time. A solitary wave which has a non-vanishing angular momentum is called vortex. We know (at least) three mechanisms which might produce solitary waves and vortices: 1) Complete integrability, (e.g. Kortewg-de Vries equation) 2) Topological constraints, (e.g. Sine-Gordon equation); 3) Ratio energy/charge: (e.g. the nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation). The third type of solitary waves or solitons will be called hylomorphic. This class includes the…
We study Cauchy problem for the Klein-Gordon (HNLKG), wave (HNLW) and Schrödinger (HNLS) equations with cubic convolution (Hartree type) nonlinearity. Some global well-posedness and scattering are obtained for the (HNLKG) and (HNLS) with small Cauchy data in some modulation spaces. Global well-posedness for fractional Schrödinger (fNLSH) equation with Hartree type nonlinearity is obtained with Cauchy data in some modulation spaces. Local well-posedness for (HNLW), (fHNLS) and (HNLKG) with rough data in modulation spaces is shown. This improves known results in Sobolev spaces in some sense. As …
We describe the long time behavior of small non-smooth solutions to the nonlinear Klein-Gordon equations on the sphere S^2. More precisely, we prove that the low harmonic energies (also called super-actions) are almost preserved for times of order $ε$^--r , where r >> 1 is an arbitrarily large number and $ε$ << 1 is the norm of the initial datum in the energy space H^1 x L^2. Roughly speaking, it means that, in order to exchange energy, modes have to oscillate at the same frequency. The proof relies on new multilinear estimates on Hamiltonian vector fields to put the system in Birkhoff normal …
We prove the existence of weak solutions in the space of energy for a class of non-linear Schroedinger equations in the presence of a external rough magnetic potential. Under our assumptions it is not possible to study the problem by means of usual arguments like resolvent techniques or Fourier integral operators, for example. We use a parabolic regularization and we solve the approximating Cauchy problem. This is achieved by obtaining suitable smoothing estimates for the dissipative evolution. The total mass and energy bounds allow to extend the solution globally in time. We then infer suffic…
We show that the Maxwell-Klein-Gordon equations in three dimensions are globally well-posed in $H^s_x$ in the Coulomb gauge for all $s > \sqrt{3}/2 \approx 0.866$. This extends previous work of Klainerman-Machedon \cite{kl-mac:mkg} on finite energy data $s \geq 1$, and Eardley-Moncrief \cite{eardley} for still smoother data. We use the method of almost conservation laws, sometimes called the "I-method", to construct an almost conserved quantity based on the Hamiltonian, but at the regularity of $H^s_x$ rather than $H^1_x$. One then uses Strichartz, null form, and commutator estimates to contro…
We prove global smoothing and Strichartz estimates for the Schroedinger, wave, Klein-Gordon equations and for the massless and massive Dirac systems, perturbed with singular electromagnetic potentials. We impose a smallness condition on the magnetic part, while the electric part can be large. The decay and regularity assumptions on the coefficients are close to critical.
Roughly speaking a solitary wave is a solution of a field equation whose energy travels as a localised packet and which preserves this localisation in time. A soliton is a solitary wave which exhibits some strong form of stability so that it has a particle-like behaviour. In this paper we show a new mechanism which might produce solitary waves and solitons for a large class of equations, such as the nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation. We show that the existence of these kind of solitons, that we have called \emph{hylomorphic} solitons, depends on a suitable energy/charge ratio. We show a variatio…
