Motivated by the search for new examples of ``noncommutative manifolds'', we study the noncommutative geometry (in the sense of Connes) of the group C*-algebras of various discrete groups. The examples we consider are the infinite dihedral group Z \times_σ $Z_2$ and the semidirect product group $Z \times_σ Z$. We present a unified treatment of the K-homology and cyclic cohomology of these algebras.

We compare the K-theory and K-homology of the well known CAR algebra. While the $K_0$ group is infinitely generated, we shows that it pairs identically to zero with even Fredholm modules over the algebra. We show further that in fact the even K-homology is trivial, while the odd K-homology is very large. These results give some insight into the K-homology of AF-algebras.

We study the K-homology of the rotation algebras $A_θ$ using the six term cyclic sequence for the K-homology of a crossed product by ${\bf Z}$. In the case where $θ$ is irrational we use Pimsner and Voiculescu's work on AF-embeddings of the $A_θ$ to search for the missing generator of the even K-homology.

In this paper we show that the $\mathrm{K}$-homology groups of a separable C*-algebra can be enriched with additional descriptive set-theoretic information, and regarded as definable groups. Using a definable version of the Universal Coefficient Theorem, we prove that the corresponding definable $\mathrm{K}$-homology is a finer invariant than the purely algebraic one, even when restricted to the class of UHF C*-algebras, or to the class of unital commutative C*-algebras whose spectrum is a $1$-dimensional connected subspace of $\mathbb{R}^{3}$.

A stable homology theory is defined for completely distributive CSL algebras in terms of the point-neighbourhood homology of the partially ordered set of meet-irreducible elements of the invariant projection lattice. We compute the Hochschild homology and cohomology, and cyclic homology, of almost Calabi-Yau algebras for SU(3) ADE graphs. These almost Calabi-Yau algebras are a higher rank analogue of the pre-projective algebras for Dynkin diagrams, which are SU(2)-related constructions. We define the notion of L^2 homology and L^2 Betti numbers for a tracial von Neumann algebra, or, more generally, for any involutive algebra with a trace. The definition of these invariants is obtained from the definition of L^2 homology for groups, using the ideas from the theory of correspondences. For the group algebra of a discrete group, our Betti numbers coincide with the L^2 Betti numbers of the group. Let X be a space, intended as a possibly curved spacetime, and A a precosheaf of C*-algebras on X. Motivated by algebraic quantum field theory, we study the Kasparov and Theta-summable K-homology of A interpreting them in terms of the holonomy equivariant K-homology of the associated C*-dynamical system. This yields a characteristic class for K-homology cycles of A with values in the odd cohomology of X, that we interpret as a generalized statistical dimension.
