The second author classified configurations of the singularities on tame sextics of torus type. In this paper, we give a complete classification of the singularities on irreducible sextics of torus type, without assuming the tameness of the sextics. We show that there exists 121 configurations and there are 5 pairs and a triple of configurations for which the corresponding moduli spaces coincide, ignoring the respective torus decomposition.
The complete list of reducible sextics of torus type with simple singularities is known in our previous paper. In this paper, we give a complete list of existence and non-existence of Zariski partner sextics of non-torus type corresponding to the list of sextics of torus type.
We show that the fundamental group of the complement of any irreducible tame torus sextics in $\bf P^2$ is isomorphic to $\bf Z_2*\bf Z_3$ except one class. The exceptional class has the configuration of the singularities $\{C_{3,9},3A_2\}$ and the fundamental group is bigger than $\bf Z_2*\bf Z_3$. In fact, the Alexander polynomial is given by $(t^2-t+1)^2$. For the proof, we first reduce the assertion to maximal curves and then we compute the fundamental groups for maximal tame torus curves.
We study the moduli spaces and compute the fundamental groups of plane sextics of torus type with the set of inner singularities $2\bold{A}_8$ or $\bold{A}_{17}$. We also compute the fundamental groups of a number of other sextics, both of and not of torus type. The groups found are simplest possible, i.e., $\Bbb{Z}_2*\Bbb{Z}_3$ and $\Bbb{Z}_6$, respectively.
Alexander polynomials of sextics with only simple singularities or sextics of torus type with arbitrary singularities are computed. We show that for ieeducible sextics, there are four possibilities: $(t^2-t+1)^j, j=0,1,2,3$.
We study the moduli spaces and compute the fundamental groups of plane sextics of torus type with at least two type $\bold{E}_6$ singular points. As a simple application, we compute the fundamental groups of 125 other sextics, most of which are new.
In this note, an analogous statement to the Nagell-Lutz theorem does not hold for the Jacobian of a certain curve of genus 2 over $\mathbb{C}(t)$. As a by-product, we give a (2, 3, 6) quasi-torus decomposition for the dual curve of a smooth cubic.
We present a rigid isotopy classification of irreducible sextic curves in $\mathbb{RP}^2$ which have non-real ordinary double points as their only singularities. Our approach uses periods of K3 surfaces and V. Nikulin's classification of involutions with condition on unimodular lattices. The classification obtained generalizes Nikulin's rigid isotopy classification of non-singular sextics in $\mathbb{RP}^2$.
We refine the classification of weak Fano threefolds with sextic del Pezzo fibrations by considering the Hodge numbers of them. By the refined classification result, such threefolds are classified into 17 cases. The main result of this paper is to show that there exists an example for each of 17 cases, except for 2 cases.
We complete the equisingular deformation classification of irreducible singular plane sextic curves. As a by-product, we also compute the fundamental groups of the complement of all but a few maximizing sextics.
We give a classification up to equisingular deformation and compute the fundamental groups of maximizing plane sextics with a type $\mathbf{E}_6$ singular point.
We classify all Gieseker semi-stable sheaves on the complex projective plane that have dimension 1 and multiplicity 6. We decompose their moduli spaces into strata which occur naturally as quotients modulo actions of certain algebraic groups. In most cases we give concrete geometric descriptions of the strata.
We give a complete deformation classification of real Zariski sextics, that is of generic apparent contours of nonsingular real cubic surfaces. As a by-product, we observe a certain "reversion" duality in the set of deformation classes of these sextics.
We present a computational study of smooth curves of degree six in the real projective plane. In the Rokhlin-Nikulin classification, there are 56 topological types, refined into 64 rigid isotopy classes. We developed software that determines the topological type of a given sextic and used it to compute empirical probability distributions on the various types. We list 64 explicit representatives with integer coefficients, and we perturb these to draw many samples from each class. This allows us to explore how many of the bitangents, inflection points and tensor eigenvectors are real. We also st…
We continue the classification of terminal Fano threefolds with an effective two-torus action. In earlier work we settled the Q-factorial case with Picard number one. Here we treat the larger class of varieties that do not admit any contraction of a prime divisor; these are called combinatorially minimal.
In this work we provide effective bounds and classification results for rational $\QQ$-factorial Fano varieties with a complexity-one torus action and Picard number one depending on the invariants dimension and Picard index. This complements earlier work by Hausen, Süß and the author, where the case of free divisor class group of rank one was treated.
We classify the canonical threefold singularities that allow an effective two-torus action. This extends classification results of Mori on terminal threefold singularities and of Ishida and Iwashita on toric canonical threefold singularities. Our classification relies on lattice point emptiness of certain polytopal complexes with rational vertices. Scaling the polytopes by the least common multiple $k$ of the respective denominators, we investigate $k$-emptiness of polytopes with integer vertices. We show that two dimensional $k$-empty polytopes either are sporadic or come in series given by F…
In this paper, we consider curves of degree 10 of torus type (2,5), C : f_5(x, y)^2 + f_2(x, y)^5 = 0. Assume that f_2(0, 0) = f_5(0, 0) = 0. Then O = (0, 0) is a singular point of C which is called an inner singularity. In this paper, we give a topological classification of singularities of (C,O).
We construct all possible Hamiltonian torus actions for which all the non-empty reduced spaces are two dimensional (and not single points) and the manifold is connected and compact, or, more generally, the moment map is proper as a map to a convex set. This construction completes the classification of tall complexity one spaces.
We propose a method to compute a desingularization of a normal affine variety X endowed with a torus action in terms of a combinatorial description of such a variety due to Altmann and Hausen. This desingularization allows us to study the structure of the singularities of X. In particular, we give criteria for X to have only rational, (QQ-)factorial, or (QQ-)Gorenstein singularities. We also give partial criteria for X to be Cohen-Macaulay or log-terminal. Finally, we provide a method to construct factorial affine varieties with a torus action. This leads to a full classification of such varie…
The aim of this paper is to classify simply connected 6-dimensional torus manifolds with vanishing odd degree cohomology. It is shown that there is a one-to-one correspondence between equivariant diffeomorphism types of these manifolds and 3-valent labelled graphs, called torus graphs introduced by Maeda-Masuda-Panov. Using this correspondence and combinatorial arguments, we prove that a simply connected 6-dimensional torus manifold with vanishing odd degree cohomology is equivariantly diffeomorphic to the 6-dimensional sphere or an equivariant connected sum of copies of 6-dimensional quasitor…
This is an expanded version of our work [AN88], 1988, in Russian. We classify del Pezzo surfaces over C with log terminal singularities of index \le 2. By classification, we understand a description of the intersection graph of all exceptional curves on an appropriate (somewhat stronger than minimal) resolution of singularities together with the subgraph of the curves which are contracted to singular points. The final results are similar to classical results about classification of non-singular del Pezzo surfaces and use the usual finite root systems. However, the intermediate considerations u…
First steps towards a classification of irreducible symplectic 4-folds whose integral 2-cohomology with 4-tuple cup product is isomorphic to that of Hilb^2(K3). We prove that any such 4-fold deforms to an irreducible symplectic 4-fold of Type A or Type B. A 4-fold of Type A is a double cover of a (singular) sextic hypersurface and a 4-fold of Type B is birational to a hypersurface of degree at most 12. We conjecture that 4-folds of Type B do not exist.
We present a classification of compact Kaehler manifolds admitting a hamiltonian 2-form (which were classified locally in part I of this work). This involves two components of independent interest. The first is the notion of a rigid hamiltonian torus action. This natural condition, for torus actions on a Kaehler manifold, was introduced locally in part I, but such actions turn out to be remarkably well behaved globally, leading to a fairly explicit classification: up to a blow-up, compact Kaehler manifolds with a rigid hamiltonian torus action are bundles of toric Kaehler manifolds. The second…
This paper's theme is the relation between several classical and well-known objects: triangle Fuchsian groups, quasi-homogeneous singularities of plane curves, torus knot complements in the 3-sphere. Torus knots are the only nontrivial knots whose complements admit transitive Lie group actions. In fact S^3\K_{p,q} is diffeomorphic to a coset space of the universal covering group of PSL_2(R) with respect to a discrete subgroup G contained in the preimage of a (p,q,\infty)-triangle Fuchsian group. The existence of such a diffeomorphism between is known from a general topological classification o…
