We prove the generic base change theorem for stacks, and give an exposition on the lisse-analytic topos of complex analytic stacks, proving some comparison theorems between various derived categories of complex analytic stacks. This enables us to deduce the decomposition theorem for perverse sheaves on complex Artin stacks with affine stabilizers from the case over finite fields.
We prove that cohomology and base change holds for algebraic stacks, generalizing work of Brochard in the tame case. We also show that Hom-spaces on algebraic stacks are represented by abelian cones, generalizing results of Grothendieck, Brochard, Olsson, Lieblich, and Roth--Starr. We give an algorithm for removing stackiness from smooth, tame Artin stacks with abelian stabilisers by repeatedly applying stacky blow-ups. The construction works over a general base and is functorial with respect to base change and compositions with gerbes and smooth, stabiliser preserving maps. We introduce and study a class of algebraic stacks with finite inertia in positive and mixed characteristic, which we call tame algebraic stacks. They include tame Deligne-Mumford stacks, and are arguably better behaved than general Deligne-Mumford stacks. We also give a complete characterization of finite flat linearly reductive schemes over an arbitrary base. Our main result is that tame algebraic stacks are étale locally quotient by actions of linearly reductive finite group schemes. In a subsequent paper we will show that tame algebraic stacks admit a good theory of stable maps.
Motivated by applications in moduli theory, we introduce a flexible and powerful language for expressing lower bounds on relative dimension of morphisms of schemes, and more generally of algebraic stacks. We show that the theory is robust and applies to a wide range of situations. Consequently, we obtain simple tools for making dimension-based deformation arguments on moduli spaces. Additionally, in a complementary direction we develop the basic properties of codimension for algebraic stacks. Laszlo and Olsson constructed Grothendieck's six operations for constructible complexes on Artin stacks in étale cohomology under an assumption of finite cohomological dimension, with base change established on the level of sheaves. We compute the essential dimension of the functors Forms_{n,d} and Hypersurf_{n, d} of equivalence classes of homogeneous polynomials in n variables and hypersurfaces in P^{n-1}, respectively, over any base field k of characteristic 0. Here two polynomials (or hypersurfaces) over K are considered equivalent if they are related by a linear change of coordinates with coefficients in K. We prove that there exist some stacks, representable over the stack of stable curves, having the following universal property with respect to Néron models of Jacobians. For every one-parameter family of stable curves, with regular total space, the Néron model of the Jacobian of its generic fibre is isomorphic to the base change of the above stacks via the moduli map of the given family. We also obtain a stack compactification of the universal Picard scheme and hence a geometrically meaningful completion of the Néron model of the Jacobian for every family as above.
Based on the methods used by the author to prove the Riemann-Roch formula for algebraic stacks, this paper contains a description of the rationnal G-theory of Deligne-Mumford stacks over general bases. We will use these results to study equivariant K-theory, and also to define new filtrations on K-theory of algebraic stacks.

We introduce an explicit method for studying actions of a group stack G on an algebraic stack X. As an example, we study in detail the case where X=P(n_0,...,n_r) is a weighted projective stack over an arbitrary base S. To this end, we give an explicit description of the group stack of automorphisms of, the weighted projective general linear 2-group PGL(n_0,...,n_r).
