Enriques surfaces with eight nodes

A nodal Enriques surface can have at most 8 nodes. We give an explicit description of Enriques surfaces with 8 nodes, showing that they are quotients of products of elliptic curves by a group isomorphic to $\Z_2^2$ or to $\Z_2^3$ acting freely in codimension 1. We use this result to show that if $S$ is a minimal surface of general type with $p_g=0$ such that the image of the bicanonical map is birational to an Enriques surface then $K^2_S=3$ and the bicanonical map is a morphism of degree 2.

Enriques surfaces and an Apollonian packing in eight dimensions

We call a packing of hyperspheres in $n$ dimensions an Apollonian sphere packing if the spheres intersect tangentially or not at all; they fill the $n$-dimensional space; and every sphere in the packing is a member of a cluster of $n+2$ mutually tangent spheres (and a few more properties described herein). A computational view on the non-degeneracy invariant for Enriques surfaces

For an Enriques surface $S$, the non-degeneracy invariant $\mathrm{nd}(S)$ retains information on the elliptic fibrations of $S$ and its polarizations. In the current paper, we introduce a combinatorial version of the non-degeneracy invariant which depends on $S$ together with a configuration of smooth rational curves, and gives a lower bound for $\mathrm{nd}(S)$. On Enriques-Fano threefolds and a conjecture of Castelnuovo

Let $W\subset \mathbb{P}^{13}$ be the image of the rational map defined by the linear system of the sextic surfaces of $\mathbb{P}^3$ having double points along the edges of a tetrahedron. A new family of surfaces with $p_g=0$ and $K^2=3$

Let S be a minimal complex surface of general type with p_g=0 such that the bicanonical map of S is not birational and let Z be the bicanonical image. In [M.Mendes Lopes, R.Pardini, "Enriques surfaces with eight nodes", Math. Enumerating singular curves on surfaces

We enumerate the singular algebraic curves in a complete linear system on a smooth projective surface. The system must be suitably ample in a rather precise sense. The curves may have up to eight nodes, or a triple point of a given type and up to three nodes. The curves must also pass through appropriately many general points. Counting curves in a linear system with upto eight singular points

In this paper, we develop a systematic approach to enumerate curves with a certain number of nodes and one further singularity which maybe more degenerate. As a result, we obtain an explicit formula for the number of curves in a sufficiently ample linear system, passing through the right number of generic points, that have $δ$ nodes and one singularity of codimension $k$, for all $δ+k \leq 8$. Node polynomials for families: results and examples

We continue the development of methods for enumerating nodal curves on smooth complex surfaces, stressing the range of validity. We illustrate the new methods in three important examples. First, for up to eight nodes, we confirm Göttsche's conjecture about plane curves of low degree. Second, we justify Vainsencher's enumeration of irreducible six-nodal plane curves on a general quintic threefold in four-space. Third, we supplement Bryan and Leung's enumeration of nodal curves in a given homology class on an Abelian surface of Picard number one.

Kummer quartic surfaces, strict self-duality, and more

In this paper we first show that each Kummer quartic surface (a quartic surface $X$ with 16 singular points) is, in canonical coordinates, equal to its dual surface, and that the Gauss map induces a fixpoint free involution $γ$ on the minimal resolution $S$ of $X$.
