For the exterior algebra E over a vector space, we consider general maps E^a -> E(1)^b and general symmetric and skew-symmetric maps E^a -> E(1)^a and describe the associated exterior algebra resolutions.
Using the theory of homogeneous bundles on homogeneous varieties we also describe the exterior algebra resolutions of much wider classes of maps E^a -> E(r)^b.
In this paper, we classify Fano manifolds with elementary contractions of birational type such that the second or third exterior power of tangent bundles are numerically effective.
In this paper, we classify Fano fourfolds whose the second exterior power of tangent bundles are numerically effective with Picard number greater than one.
We study the positivity of exterior powers of the tangent sheaf on toric varieties in order to generalize results by Campana and Peternell about 3-folds with nef second exterior power of the tangent bundle. Using the theory of equivariant vector bundles and the toric MMP, we establish in the smooth case a criterion for the positivity of $Λ^m\mathcal T_X$ in terms of wall relations. As an application, we classify smooth toric varieties of arbitrary dimension $n\ge3$ with $Λ^2\mathcal T_X$ nef and those of dimension $n\ge 4$ with $Λ^3\mathcal T_X$ ample.
Let $X$ be a complex smooth projective variety such that the exterior power of the tangent bundle $\bigwedge^{r} T_X$ is nef for some $1\leq r<\dim X$. We prove that, up to an étale cover, $X$ is a Fano fiber space over an Abelian variety. This gives generalizations of the structure theorem of varieties with nef tangent bundle by Demailly, Peternell and Schneider and that of varieties with nef $\bigwedge^{2} T_X$ by the author. Our result also gives an answer to a question raised by Li, Ou and Yang for varieties with strictly nef $\bigwedge^{r} T_X$ when $r < \dim X$.
Let $X$ be a smooth complex projective variety. A recent conjecture of S. Kovács states that if t\ he $p^{\text{th}}$-exterior power of the tangent bundle $T_X$ contains the $p^{\text{th}}$-exterior power of an ample vector bundle, then $X$ is either a projective space or a smooth quadric hypersurface. This conjecture is appealing since it is a common generalization of Mori's, Wahl's, Andreatt\ a-Wísniewski's, and Araujo-Druel-Kovács's characterizations of these spaces. In this paper I give a proof affirming this conjecture for varieties with Picard number 1.
Let $X$ be a smooth complex projective variety with nef $\bigwedge^2 T_X$ and $\dim X \geq 3$. We prove that, up to a finite étale cover $\tilde{X} \to X$, the Albanese map $\tilde{X} \to {\rm Alb}(\tilde{X})$ is a locally trivial fibration whose fibers are isomorphic to a smooth Fano variety $F$ with nef $\bigwedge^2 T_F$. As a bi-product, we see that either $T_X$ is nef or $X$ is a Fano variety. Moreover we study a contraction of a $K_X$-negative extremal ray $φ: X \to Y$. In particular, we prove that $X$ is isomorphic to the blow-up of a projective space at a point if $φ$ is of birational t…
We prove that special ample line bundles on toric varieties arising from root systems are projectively normal. Here the maximal cones of the fans correspond to the Weyl chambers, and special means that the bundle is torus-equivariant such that the character of the line bundle that corresponds to a maximal Weyl chamber is dominant with respect to that chamber. Moreover, we prove that the associated semigroup rings are quadratic.
We show that the total cohomology of the canonical bundle of a smooth projective variety, seen as a module over an exterior algebra, splits into a natural direct sum of submodules which are generated in degree zero and have a linear free resolution. This improves a previous result of the first two authors.
We compute the Euler characteristics of tautological vector bundles and their exterior powers over the Quot schemes of curves. We give closed-form expressions over punctual Quot schemes in all genera. For higher rank quotients of a trivial vector bundle, we obtain answers in genus zero. We also study the Euler characteristics of the symmetric powers of the tautological bundles, for rank zero quotients.
Tangent Spaces of V^r_d(L), Specific subschemes of C_d arising from various line bundles on C, are described. Then we proceed to prove Martense Theorem for these schemes, by which we determine curves C, which for some very ample line bundle L on C and some integers r and d with d\leq h^{0}(L)-2, the subscheme V^r_d(L) might attain its maximum dimension.
We construct an explicit equivalence between a category of complexes over the exterior algebra, which we call HT-complexes, and the stable category of vector bundles on the corresponding projective space, and establish a relation between HT-complexes and the Tate resolutions over the exterior algebra, which had been described by D. Eisenbud, G. Floystad, F.O. Schreyer in math.AG/0104203. The correspondence between HT-complexes and stable classes of vector bundles essentially translates into more fancy terms former results of Trautmann on representing Koszul complexes, which, in turn, were infl…
In this note we show the existence of a family of elliptic conic bundles in P^4 of degree 8. This family has been overlooked and in fact falsely ruled out in a series of classification papers. Our surfaces provide a counterexample to a conjecture of Ellingsrud and Peskine. According to this conjecture there should be no irregular m-ruled surface in P^4 for m at least 2.
Hermite reciprocity refers to a series of natural isomorphisms involving compositions of symmetric, exterior, and divided powers of the standard $SL_2$-representation. We survey several equivalent constructions of these isomorphisms, as well as their recent applications to Green's Conjecture on syzygies of canonical curves. The most geometric approach to Hermite reciprocity is based on an idea of Voisin to realize certain multilinear constructions cohomologically by working on a Hilbert scheme of points. We explain how in the case of ${\bf P}^1$ this can be reformulated in terms of cohomologic…
Over a scheme with 2 invertible, we show that a vector bundle of rank four has a sub or quotient line bundle if and only if the canonical symmetric bilinear form on its exterior square has a lagrangian subspace. For this, we exploit a version of "Pascal's rule" for vector bundles that provides an explicit isomorphism between the moduli functors represented by projective homogeneous bundles for reductive group schemes of type A_3 and D_3. Under additional hypotheses on the scheme (e.g. proper over a field), we show that the existence of sub or quotient line bundles of a rank four vector bundle …
In this paper we study the Bernstein-Gel'fand-Gel'fand (BGG) correspondence linking sheaves on a projective space to graded modules over an exterior algebra. We give an explicit construction of a Beilinson monad for a sheaf on projective space. The explicitness allows us to to prove two conjectures about the morphisms in the monad. We also construct all the monads for a sheaf that can be built from sums of line bundles. A large subclass, containing many monads introduced by others, are uniquely characterized by simple numerical data. Our methods also yield an efficient method for machine compu…
We present a general construction of model category structures on the category $\mathbb{C}(\mathfrak{Qco}(X))$ of unbounded chain complexes of quasi-coherent sheaves on a semi-separated scheme $X$. The construction is based on making compatible the filtrations of individual modules of sections at open affine subsets of $X$. It does not require closure under direct limits as previous methods. We apply it to describe the derived category $\mathbb D (\mathfrak{Qco}(X))$ via various model structures on $\mathbb{C}(\mathgrak{Qco}(X))$. As particular instances, we recover recent results on the flat …
In this paper we study the combinatorics of quasi-trigonometric solutions of the classical Yang-Baxter equation, arising from simple vector bundles on a nodal Weierstrass cubic.
For ample vector bundles $E$ over compact complex varieties $X$ and a Schur functor $S_I$ corresponding to an arbitrary partition $I$ of the integer $|I|$, one would like to know the optimal vanishing theorem for the cohomology groups $H^{p,q}(X, S_I(E))$, depending on the rank of $E$ and the dimension $n$ of $X$. Three years ago (Nov. 1995), in an unpublished paper one of us (W.N.) proved a vanishing theorem for the situation where the partition $I$ is a hook. Here we give a simpler proof of this theorem. We also treat the same problem under weaker positivity assumptions, in particular under …
Let $D:Ω\xrightarrow{}Ω$ be a differential operator defined in the exterior algebra $Ω$ of differential forms over the polynomial ring $S$ in $n$ variables. In this work we give conditions for deforming the module structure of $Ω$ over $S$ induced by the differential operator $D$, in order to make $D$ an $S$-linear morphism while leaving the $\mathbb{C}$-vector space structure of $Ω$ unchanged. One can then apply the usual algebraic tools to study differential operators: finding generators of the kernel and image, computing a Hilbert polynomial of these modules, etc. Taking differential operat…
This survey studies equivariant harmonic maps arising from Higgs bundles. We explain the non-abelian Hodge correspondence and focus on the role of equivariant harmonic maps in the correspondence. With the preparation, we review current progress towards some open problems in the study of equivariant harmonic maps.
Verlinde bundles are vector bundles $V_k$ arising as the direct image $π_*(\mathcal L^{\otimes k})$ of polarizations of a proper family of schemes $π\colon \mathfrak X \to S$. We study the splitting behavior of Verlinde bundles in the case where $π$ is the universal family $\mathfrak X \to |\mathcal O(d)|$ of hypersurfaces of degree $d$ in $\mathbb P^n$ and calculate the cohomology class of the locus of jumping lines of the Verlinde bundles $V_{d+1}$ in the cases $n=2,3$.
