We introduce the concept of pseudo symplectic capacities which is a mild generalization of that of symplectic capacities. As a generalization of the Hofer-Zehnder capacity we construct a Hofer-Zehnder type pseudo symplectic capacity and estimate it in terms of Gromov-Witten invariants. The (pseudo) symplectic capacities of Grassmannians and some product symplectic manifolds are computed. As applications we first derive some general nonsqueezing theorems that generalize and unite many previous versions, then prove the Weinstein conjecture for cotangent bundles over a large class of symplectic uniruled manifolds (including the uniruled manifolds in algebraic geometry) and also show that any closed symplectic submanifold of codimension two in any symplectic manifold has a small neighborhood whose Hofer-Zehnder capacity is less than a given positive number. Finally, we give two results on symplectic packings in Grassmannians and on Seshadri constants.
In this paper, using the gluing formula of Gromov-Witten invariants under symplectic cutting, due to Li and Ruan, we studied the Gromov-Witten invariants of blow-ups at a smooth point or along a smooth curve. We established some relations between Gromov-Witten invariants of M and its blow-ups at a smooth point or along a smooth curve.
We prove two tropical gluing formulae for Gromov-Witten invariants of exploded manifolds, useful for calculating Gromov-Witten invariants of a symplectic manifold using a normal-crossing degeneration. The first formula generalizes the symplectic-sum formula for Gromov-Witten invariants. The second formula is stronger, and also generalizes Kontsevich and Manin's splitting and genus-reduction axioms. Both tropical gluing formulae have versions incorporating gravitational descendants.
Polyfold theory, as developed by Hofer, Wysocki, and Zehnder, is a relatively new approach to resolving transversality issues that arise in the study of $J$-holomorphic curves in symplectic geometry. This approach has recently led to a well-defined Gromov-Witten invariant for $J$-holomorphic curves of arbitrary genus, and for all closed symplectic manifolds. The Gromov-Witten axioms, as originally described by Kontsevich and Manin, give algebraic relationships between the Gromov-Witten invariants. In this paper, we prove the Gromov-Witten axioms for the polyfold Gromov-Witten invariants.
We propose a general theory of the Open Gromov-Witten invariant on Calabi-Yau three-folds. In this paper we construct the Open Gromov-Witten potential. The evaluation of the potential on its critical points leads to numerical invariants.
Notes for a short lecture series, covering exploded manifolds, the moduli stack of curves in exploded manifolds, and a tropical gluing formula for Gromov-Witten invariants: a gluing formula providing a degeneration formula for Gromov-Witten invariants in normal-crossing degenerations. I gave the original lecture series in April 2016 at the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics at Stonybrook. Video of the lectures is available on the SCGP website, http://scgp.stonybrook.edu/video_portal/video.php?id=2595
This paper describes the structure of the moduli space of holomorphic curves and constructs Gromov Witten invariants in the category of exploded manifolds. This includes defining Gromov Witten invariants relative to normal crossing divisors and proving the associated gluing theorem which involves summing relative invariants over a count of tropical curves.
In this paper we introduce invariants of semi-free Hamiltonian actions of $S\sp 1$ on compact symplectic manifolds (which satisfy some technical conditions related to positivity) using the space of solutions to certain gauge theoretical equations. These equations generalize at the same time the vortex equations and the holomorphicity equation used in Gromov-Witten theory. In the definition of the invariants we combine ideas coming from gauge theory and the ideas underlying the construction of Gromov-Witten invariants. This paper is based on a part of my PhD Thesis (see math/9912150).
We present a gluing formula for Gromov-Witten invariants in the case of a triple product. This gluing formula is a simple case of a much more general gluing formula proved and stated using exploded manifolds. We present this simple case because it is relatively easy to explain without any knowledge of exploded manifolds or log schemes.
We use Donaldson hypersurfaces to construct pseudo-cycles which define Gromov-Witten invariants for any symplectic manifold which agree with the invariants in the cases where transversality could be achieved by perturbing the almost complex structure.
We study the degeneration and the gluing of Kuranishi structures in Gromov-Witten theory under a symplectic cut. This leads us to a degeneration axiom and a gluing axiom for open Gromov-Witten invariants. They provide then a route to the construction of virtual fundamental chains via specialization. Comments on the equivalence of the degeneration formula of closed Gromov-Witten invariants by Li-Ruan/Li versus Ionel-Parker are given in the Appendix.
We use the hyperKäler geometry define an disc-counting invariants with deformable boundary condition on hyperKähler manifolds. Unlike the reduced Gromov-Witten invariants, these invariants can have non-trivial wall-crossing phenomenon and are expected to be the generalized Donaldson-Thomas invariants in the construction of hyperKähler metric proposed by Gaiotto-Moore-Neitzke.
A Kuranishi atlas is a structure used to build a virtual fundamental class on moduli spaces of $J$-holomorphic curves. They were introduced by McDuff and Wehrheim to resolve some of the challenges in this field. This paper completes the construction of genus zero Gromov-Witten invariants using Kuranishi atlases and proves the Gromov-Witten axioms of Kontsevich and Manin. To do so, we introduce the notion of a transverse subatlas, a useful tool for working with Kuranishi atlases.
In this note we introduce parameterized Gromov-Witten invariants for symplectic fiber bundles and study the topology of the symplectomorphism group. We also give sample applications showing the non-triviality of certain homotopy groups of some symplectomorphism groups.
We provide an enumerative meaning of the mirror maps for toric Calabi-Yau orbifolds in terms of relative Gromov-Witten invariants of the toric compactifications. As a consequence, we obtain an equality between relative Gromov-Witten invariants and open Gromov-Witten invariants. Therefore, the instanton corrected mirrors for toric Calabi-Yau orbifolds can be constructed using relative Gromov-Witten invariants.
The usual Gromov-Witten invariants are zero for Kähler surfaces with $p_g\geq 1$. In this paper we use analytic methods to define Family Gromov-Witten Invariants for Kähler surfaces. We prove that these are well-defined invariants of the deformation class of the Kähler structure.
Kuranishi atlases were introduced by McDuff and Wehrheim to build a virtual fundamental class on moduli spaces of J-holomorphic curves and resolve some of the challenges in this field. This paper considers Gromov-Witten moduli spaces and shows they admit a smooth enough Kuranishi atlas to be able to define a Gromov-Witten virtual fundamental class in any virtual dimension. The key step for this result is the proof of a stronger gluing theorem.
In the paper, we study the wall-crossing phenomenon of reduced open Gromov-Witten invariants on K3 surfaces with rigid special Lagrangian boundary condition. As a corollary, we derived the multiple cover formula for the reduced open Gromov-Witten invariants.
Holomorphic 2-forms on Kähler surfaces lead to "Local Gromov-Witten invariants" of spin curves. This paper shows how to derive sum formulas for such local GW invariants from the sum formula for GW invariants of certain ruled surfaces. These sum formulas also verify the Maulik-Pandharipande formulas that were recently proved by Kiem and Li.
We propose a general theory of the Open Gromov-Witten invariant on Calabi-Yau three-folds. We introduce the moduli space of multi-curves and show how it leads to invariants. Our construction is based on an idea of Witten. In the special case that each connected component of the Lagrangian submanifold has the rational homology of a sphere we define rational numbers $F_{g,h}$ for each genus $g$ and $h$ boundary components.
We compute certain open Gromov-Witten invariants for toric Calabi-Yau threefolds. The proof relies on a relation for ordinary Gromov-Witten invariants for threefolds under certain birational transformation, and a recent result of Kwokwai Chan.
Let X be a smooth projective variety. The Gromov-Witten potentials of X are generating functions for the Gromov-Witten invariants of X: they are formal power series, sometimes in infinitely many variables, with Taylor coefficients given by Gromov-Witten invariants of X. It is natural to ask whether these formal power series converge. In this paper we describe and analyze various notions of convergence for Gromov-Witten potentials. Using results of Givental and Teleman, we show that if the quantum cohomology of X is analytic and generically semisimple then the genus-g Gromov-Witten potential of…
We consider Open Gromov-Witten invariants for noncompact Calabi-Yau in the case the Lagrangian has the topology of $\R^2 \times S^1$. The definition of the invariant involves the choice of a frame for the Lagrangian, in accord with string theory. Our result applies to the examples arising from Large $N$-duality. In particular it leads to knot and link invariants counting holomorphic curves.
In this paper, using the degeneration formula we obtain a blowup formulae of local Gromov-Witten invariants of Fano surfaces. This formula makes it possible to compute the local Gromov-Witten invariants of non-toric Fano surfaces form toric Fano surface, such as del Pezzo surfaces. This formula also verifed an expectation of Chiang-Klemm-Yau-Zaslow.
In this article, we construct the reduced genus-two Gromov-Witten invariants for certain almost Kähler manifold $(X, ω, J)$ such that $J$ is integrable and satisfies some regularity conditions. In particular, the standard projective space $(¶^n, ω_0, J_0)$ of dimension $n \le 7$ satisfies these conditions. This invariant counts the number of simple genus-two $J$-holomorphic curves that satisfy appropriate number of constraints.
Let $\mathcal{X}_1$ and $\mathcal{X}_2$ be smooth proper Deligne-Mumford stacks with projective coarse moduli spaces. We prove a formula for orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants of the product stack $\mathcal{X}_1\times \mathcal{X}_2$ in terms of Gromov-Witten invariants of the factors $\mathcal{X}_1$ and $\mathcal{X}_2$. As an application, we deduce a decomposition result for Gromov-Witten theory of trivial gerbes.
This is the draft of lecture notes for Phd students in Sichuan University. In this notes we expand Li-Ruan's paper with much more detailed explanations and calculations.
This research announcement discusses our results on Gromov-Witten theory of root gerbes. A complete calculation of genus 0 Gromov-Witten theory of $μ_{r}$-root gerbes over a smooth base scheme is obtained by a direct analysis of virtual fundamental classes. Our result verifies the genus 0 part of the so-called decomposition conjecture which compares Gromov-Witten theory of étale gerbes with that of the bases. We also verify this conjecture in all genera for toric gerbes over toric Deligne-Mumford stacks.
In this paper, one considers the change of orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants under weighted blow-up at smooth points. Some blow-up formula for Gromov-Witten invariants of symplectic orbifolds is proved. These results extend the results of manifolds case to orbifold case.
We prove that stationary Gromov-Witten invariants of $\bp^1$ arise as the Eynard-Orantin invariants of the spectral curve $x=z+1/z$, $y=\ln{z}$. As an application we show that tautological intersection numbers on the moduli space of curves arise in the asymptotics of large degree Gromov-Witten invariants of $\bp^1$.
Virasoro constraints for orbifold Gromov-Witten theory are described. These constraints are applied to the degree zreo, genus zero orbifold Gromov-Witten potentials of the weighted projective stacks $\mathbb{P}(1,N)$, $\mathbb{P}(1,1,N)$ and $\mathbb{P}(1,1,1,N)$ to obtain formulas of descendant cyclic Hurwitz-Hodge integrals.
For smooth projective G-varieties, we equate the gauged Gromov-Witten invariants for sufficiently small area and genus zero with the invariant part of equivariant Gromov-Witten invariants. As an application we deduce a gauged version of abelianization for Gromov-Witten invariants. In the symplectic setting, we prove that any sequence of genus zero symplectic vortices with vanishing area has a subsequence that converges after gauge transformation to a holomorphic map with zero average moment map.
We propose a conjectural determination of the Gromov-Witten theory of a root stack along a smooth divisor. We verify our conjecture under an additional assumption.
We study genus 1 Gromov-Witten invariants of Fano complete intersections in the projective spaces. Among other things, we show a reconstruction theorem for genus 1 invariants with only ambient insertions, and compute the genus 1 invariants with 1 marked point. For cubic hypersurfaces of dimension $\neq 4$ and odd dimensional intersections of two quadrics, we obtain a complete reconstruction theorem for genus 1 Gromov-Witten invariants.
Using the degeneration formula and absolute/relative correspondence, one studied the change of Gromov-Witten invariants under blow-up for six dimensional symplectic manifolds and obtained closed blow-up formulae for high genus Gromov-Witten invariants. Our formulae also imply some relations among generalized BPS numbers introduced by Pandharipande.
For a complex projective manifold Gromov-Witten invariants can be constructed either algebraically or symplectically. Using the versions of Gromov-Witten theory by Behrend and Fantechi on the algebraic side and by the author on the symplectic side, we prove that both points of view give the same results. A similar statement has been obtained independently by Li and Tian using their definitions of algebraic and symplectic Gromov-Witten invariants (alg-geom/9712035).
We describe generating functions for arbitrary-genus Gromov-Witten invariants of the projective space with any number of marked points explicitly. The structural portion of this description gives rise to uniform energy bounds and vanishing results for these invariants. They suggest deep conjectures relating Gromov-Witten invariants of symplectic manifolds to the energy of pseudo-holomorphic maps and the expected dimension of their moduli space.
We provide an inductive algorithm computing Gromov-Witten invariants in all genera with arbitrary insertions of all smooth complete intersections in projective space. We also prove that all Gromov-Witten classes of all smooth complete intersections in projective space belong to the tautological ring of the moduli space of stable curves. The main idea is to show that invariants with insertions of primitive cohomology classes are controlled by their monodromy and by invariants defined without primitive insertions but with imposed nodes in the domain curve. To compute these nodal Gromov-Witten in…
On a compact Kähler manifold $X$ with a holomorphic 2-form $\a$, there is an almost complex structure associated with $\a$. We show how this implies vanishing theorems for the Gromov-Witten invariants of $X$. This extends the approach, used in \cite{lp} for Kähler surfaces, to higher dimensions.
We construct Ionel-Parker's proposed refinement of the standard relative Gromov-Witten invariants in terms of abelian covers of the symplectic divisor and discuss in what sense it gives rise to invariants. We use it to obtain some vanishing results for the standard relative Gromov-Witten invariants. In a separate paper, we describe to what extent this refinement sharpens the usual symplectic sum formula and give further qualitative applications.
We describe the extent to which Ionel-Parker's proposed refinement of the standard relative Gromov-Witten invariants sharpens the usual symplectic sum formula. The key product operation on the target spaces for the refined invariants is specified in terms of abelian covers of symplectic divisors, making it suitable for studying from a topological perspective. We give several qualitative applications of this refinement, which include vanishing results for Gromov-Witten invariants.
For a local Calabi-Yau manifold which is a smoothing of toric Gorenstein singularity, this paper computes the open Gromov-Witten invariants of a generic fiber of the special Lagrangian fibration constructed by Gross and thereby constructs its SYZ mirror. Moreover it derives a relation for the generating function of open Gromov-Witten invariants of the local Calabi-Yau manifold and that of its conifold transition.
We prove a formula of Dale Peterson comparing genus zero Gromov-Witten invariants of $G/P$ to those of $G/B$ using results of Atiyah-Bott and Ramanathan on canonical reductions of principal bundles.
We compute the $g=1, n=1$ B-model Gromov-Witten invariant of an elliptic curve E directly from the derived category D(E). More precisely, we carry out the computation of the categorical Gromov-Witten invariant defined by Costello using as target a cyclic $A_\infty$ model of D(E) described by Polishchuk. This is the first non-trivial computation of a positive genus categorical Gromov-Witten invariant, and the result agrees with the prediction of mirror symmetry: it matches the classical (non-categorical) Gromov-Witten invariants of a symplectic 2-torus computed by Dijkgraaf.
We derive a closed formula for the generating function of genus two Gromov-Witten invariants of quintic 3-folds and verify the corresponding mirror symmetry conjecture of Bershadsky, Cecotti, Ooguri and Vafa.
We give examples of real enumerative problems without real solutions. Most of the examples concern rational curves in ${\mathbb C}{\mathbb P}^3$ passing through a real set of points and lines.
We consider the product of two projective lines equipped with the complex conjugation transforming $(x,y)$ into $(\bar{y},\bar{x})$ and blown up in at most two real, or two complex conjugate, points. For these four surfaces we prove the logarithmic equivalence of Welschinger and Gromov-Witten invariants.
We present a method of computing genus zero two-point descendant Gromov-Witten invariants via one-point invariants. We apply our method to recover some of calculations of Zinger and Popa-Zinger, as well as to obtain new calculations of two-point descendant invariants.
