We study the degeneration and the gluing of Kuranishi structures in Gromov-Witten theory under a symplectic cut. This leads us to a degeneration axiom and a gluing axiom for open Gromov-Witten invariants. They provide then a route to the construction of virtual fundamental chains via specialization. Comments on the equivalence of the degeneration formula of closed Gromov-Witten invariants by Li-Ruan/Li versus Ionel-Parker are given in the Appendix.

Shrinking good coordinate systems associated to Kuranishi structures

The notion of good coordinate system was introduced by Fukaya and Ono in [FOn] in their construction of virtual fundamental chain via Kuranishi structure which was also introduced therein. This notion was further clarified in [FOOO1] in some detail. Smoothness of Kuranishi atlases on Gromov-Witten moduli spaces

Kuranishi atlases were introduced by McDuff and Wehrheim to build a virtual fundamental class on moduli spaces of J-holomorphic curves and resolve some of the challenges in this field. This paper considers Gromov-Witten moduli spaces and shows they admit a smooth enough Kuranishi atlas to be able to define a Gromov-Witten virtual fundamental class in any virtual dimension. The key step for this result is the proof of a stronger gluing theorem.

This is an expository article on the theory of Kuranishi structure and is based on a series of pdf files we uploaded for the discussion of the google group named `Kuranishi' (with its administrator H. Notes on exploded manifolds and a tropical gluing formula for Gromov-WItten invariants

Notes for a short lecture series, covering exploded manifolds, the moduli stack of curves in exploded manifolds, and a tropical gluing formula for Gromov-Witten invariants: a gluing formula providing a degeneration formula for Gromov-Witten invariants in normal-crossing degenerations. Partial collapsing degeneration of Floer trajectories and adiabatic gluing

We study partial collapsing degeneration of Hamiltonian-perturbed Floer trajectories for an adiabatic $\varepsilon$-family and its reversal adiabatic gluing, as the prototype of the partial collapsing degeneration of $2$-dimensional (perturbed) $J$-holomorphic maps to $1$-dimensional gradient segments. We consider the case when the Floer equations are $S^1$-invariant on parts of their domains whose adiabatic limits have positive lengths as $\varepsilon \to 0$, which we call thimble-flow-thimble configurations. Tropical gluing formulae for Gromov-Witten invariants

We prove two tropical gluing formulae for Gromov-Witten invariants of exploded manifolds, useful for calculating Gromov-Witten invariants of a symplectic manifold using a normal-crossing degeneration. The first formula generalizes the symplectic-sum formula for Gromov-Witten invariants. The second formula is stronger, and also generalizes Kontsevich and Manin's splitting and genus-reduction axioms. Both tropical gluing formulae have versions incorporating gravitational descendants.

Floer trajectories with immersed nodes and scale-dependent gluing

We define an enhanced compactification of Floer trajectories under Morse background using the adiabatic degeneration and the scale-dependent gluing techniques. The compactification reflects the 1-jet datum of the smooth Floer trajectories nearby the limiting nodal Floer trajectories arising from adiabatic degeneration of the background Morse function. A categorical formalism is introduced for studying various features of the symplectic geometry of Lefschetz fibrations and the algebraic geometry of Tyurin degenerations. On Symplectic Sum Formulas in Gromov-Witten Theory

This manuscript describes in detail the symplectic sum formulas in Gromov-Witten theory and related topological and analytic issues. In particular, we analyze and compare two analytic approaches to these formulas.
