This paper is originally designed as a part of revision of the author's preprint math.AG/9908174 "P-adic Schwarzian triangle groups of Mumford type". Recently, Yves Andr'e pointed out a flaw in that preprint; more precisely, Proposition II there was not correct, and consequently, as he pointed out, some triangle groups are missing (but only in p=2,3,5). I apologize to the readers, and will release the other part soon by the original title. In this paper, we concentrate on the constructive part, but more systematically and in more general situation. More precisely, this paper presents a complete criterion for an abstract tree of groups to be realized in the context of p-adic uniformization. This criterion provides a practical way of constructing finitely generated discrete subgroups in PGL(2,K) over a p-adic field K. In the end of this paper, we will exhibit concrete examples of such construction, which in particular shows that there exist infinitely many triangle groups.
Let $\mathscr{O}_K$ be a 2-adic discrete valuation ring with perfect residue field $k$. We classify $p$-divisible groups and $p$-power order finite flat group schemes over $\mathscr{O}_K$ in terms of certain Frobenius module over $\mathfrak{S}:=W(k)[[u]]$. We also show the compatibility with crystalline Dieudonné theory and associated Galois representations. Our approach differs from Lau's generalization of display theory, and we additionally obtain the the compatibility with associated Galois representations.
Part of these notes was written as the author's 2013 master thesis. For proper flat schemes over a complete discrete valuation ring of mixed characteristic, we construct an isomorphism of certain subgroups of the Picard group and the first cohomology group of the structure sheaf. When the Picard scheme is available and smooth, it recovers the isomorphism coming from its formal completion. A reinterpretation of an old theorem of Mattuck is given.
Let $\mathcal{V}$ be a complete discrete valued ring of mixed characteristic $(0,p)$, $K$ its field of fractions, $k$ its residue field which is supposed to be perfect. Let $X$ be a separated $k$-scheme of finite type and $Y$ be an open subscheme of $X$. We construct the category $F\text{-}D ^\mathrm{b}_\mathrm{ovhol} (\mathcal{D} ^†_{(Y,X)/K})$ of overholonomy type over $(Y,X)/K$. We check that these categories satisfy a formalism of Grothendieck's six operations.
Let $K/\mathbb{Q}$ be a finitely generated field of characteristic zero and $X/K$ a smooth projective variety. Fix $q\in\mathbb{N}$. For every prime number $\ell$ let $ρ_\ell$ be the representation of $\mathrm{Gal}(K)$ on the étale cohomology group $H^q(X_{\overline{K}}, \mathbb{Q}_\ell)$. For a field $k$ we denote by $k_{\mathrm{ab}}$ its maximal abelian Galois extension. We prove that there exist finite Galois extensions $k/\mathbb{Q}$ and $F/K$ such that the restricted family of representations $(ρ_\ell|\mathrm{Gal}(k_{\mathrm{ab}} F))_\ell$ is group theoretically independent in the sense t…
Let K be a p-adic field and F the function field of a curve over K. Let G be a connected linear algebraic group over F of classical type. Suppose the prime p is a good prime for G. Then we prove that projective homogeneous spaces under G over F satisfy a local global principle for rational points with respect to discrete valuations of F . If G is a semisimple simply connected group over F , then we also prove that principal homogeneous spaces under G over F satisfy a local global principle for rational points with respect to discrete valuations of F.
For a local non-Archimedean field $K$ we construct ${\rm GL}_{d+1}(K)$-equivariant coherent sheaves ${\mathcal V}_{{\mathcal O}_K}$ on the formal ${\mathcal O}_K$-scheme ${\mathfrak X}$ underlying the symmetric space $X$ over $K$ of dimension $d$. These ${\mathcal V}_{{\mathcal O}_K}$ are ${\mathcal O}_K$-lattices in (the sheaf version of) the holomorphic discrete series representations (in $K$-vector spaces) of ${\rm GL}_{d+1}(K)$ as defined by P. Schneider \cite{schn}. We prove that the cohomology $H^t({\mathfrak X},{\mathcal V}_{{\mathcal O}_K})$ vanishes for $t>0$, for ${\mathcal V}_{{\mat…
We establish duality results for the cohomology of the Weil group of a $p$-adic field, analogous to, but more general than, results from Galois cohomology. We prove a duality theorem for discrete Weil modules, which implies Tate-Nakayama Duality. We define Weil-smooth cohomology for varieties over local fields, and prove a duality theorem for the cohomology of $\G_m$ on a smooth, proper curve with a rational point. This last theorem is analogous to, and implies, a classical duality theorem for such curves.
This note explores the consequences of Koenigsmann's model theoretic argument from the proof of the birational p-adic section conjecture for curves in the context of higher dimensional varieties over p-adic local fields.
Geometric properties of homomorphisms between the absolute Galois groups of mixed-characteristic complete discrete valuation fields with perfect residue fields
We define a numerical invariant, the differential Swan conductor, for certain differential modules on a rigid analytic annulus over a p-adic field. This gives a definition of a conductor for p-adic Galois representations with finite local monodromy over an equal characteristic discretely valued field, which agrees with the usual Swan conductor when the residue field is perfect. We also establish analogues of some key properties of the usual Swan conductor, such as integrality (the Hasse-Arf theorem), and the fact that the graded pieces of the associated ramification filtration on Galois groups…
In this dissertation, we discuss mainly the corresponding geometric and representation theoretic aspects of relative $p$-adic Hodge theory and $p$-adic motives. To be more precise, we study the corresponding analytic geometry of the corresponding spaces over and attached to period rings in the relative $p$-adic Hodge theory, including derived topological de Rham complexes and derived topological logarithmic de Rham complexes after Bhatt, Gabber, Guo and Illusie which is in some sense equivalent to the derived prismatic cohomology of Bhatt-Scholze as shown in the work of Li-Liu, $\mathcal{O}\ma…
Let $K$ be a non-archimedean local field, $X$ a smooth and proper $K$-scheme, and fix a pluricanonical form on $X$. For every finite extension $K'$ of $K$, the pluricanonical form induces a measure on the $K'$-analytic manifold $X(K')$. We prove that, when $K'$ runs through all finite tame extensions of $K$, suitable normalizations of the pushforwards of these measures to the Berkovich analytification of $X$ converge to a Lebesgue-type measure on the temperate part of the Kontsevich--Soibelman skeleton, assuming the existence of a strict normal crossings model for $X$. We also prove a similar …
Let $K$ be a finite extension of ${\mathbb Q}_p$ and let $X$ be Drinfel'd's symmetric space of dimension $d$ over $K$. Let $Γ\subset {\rm SL}_{d+1}(K)$ be a cocompact discrete (torsionfree) subgroup and let ${X}_Γ=Γ\backslash {X}$, a smooth projective ${K}$-variety. In this paper we investigate the de Rham and log crystalline (log convergent) cohomology of local systems on $X_Γ$ arising from $K[Γ]$-modules. (I) We prove the monodromy weight conjecture in this context. To do so we work out, for a general strictly semistable proper scheme of pure relative dimension $d$ over a cdvr of mixed chara…
We investigate diagonal forms of degree $d$ over the function field $F$ of a smooth projective $p$-adic curve: if a form is isotropic over the completion of $F$ with respect to each discrete valuation of $F$, then it is isotropic over certain fields $F_U$, $F_P$ and $F_p$. These fields appear naturally when applying the methodology of patching; $F$ is the inverse limit of the finite inverse system of fields $\{F_U,F_P,F_p\}$. Our observations complement some known bounds on the higher $u$-invariant of diagonal forms of degree $d$. We only consider diagonal forms of degree $d$ over fields of ch…
Let $\k$ be a commutative ring, and let $(A,\mfrak{a})$ be an adic ring which is a $\k$-algebra. We study complete and torsion versions of the derived Hochschild homology and cohomology functors of $A$ over $\k$. To do this, we first establish weak proregularity of certain ideals in flat base changes of noetherian rings. Next, we develop a theory of DG-affine formal schemes, extending the Greenlees-May duality and the MGM equivalence to this setting. Finally, we define complete and torsion derived Hochschild homology and cohomology functors in this setting, and show that if $\k$ is noetherian …
