This paper provides a new approach to proving generalizations of the F.&M. Riesz Theorem, for example, the result of Helson and Lowdenslager, the result of Forelli (and de Leeuw and Glicksberg), and more recent results of Yamagushi. We study actions of a locally compact abelian group with ordered dual onto a space of measures, and consider those measures that are analytic, that is, the spectrum of the action on the measure is contained within the positive elements of the dual of the group. The classical results tell us that the singular and absolutely continuous parts of the measure (with respect to a suitable measure) are also analytic. The approach taken in this paper is to adopt the transference principle developed by the authors and Saeki in another paper, and apply it to martingale inequalities of Burkholder and Garling. In this way, we obtain a decomposition of the measures, and obtain the above mentioned results as corollaries.
In this paper, we study the class of tempered distributions whose Fourier transform is a translation bounded measure and show that each such distribution in $\mathbb{R}^d$ has order at most $2d$. We show the existence of the generalized Eberlein decomposition within this class of distributions, and its compatibility with all previous Eberlein decompositions. The generalized Eberlein decomposition for Fourier transformable measures and properties of its components are discussed. Lastly, we take a closer look at the absolutely continuous spectrum of measures supported on Meyer sets.
Recently in \cite{Dvu3} it was shown that if a pseudo effect algebra satisfies a kind of the Riesz Decomposition Property ((RDP) for short), then its state space is either empty or a nonempty simplex. This will allow us to prove a Yosida-Hewitt type and a Lebesgue type decomposition for measures on pseudo effect algebra with (RDP). The simplex structure of the state space will entail not only the existence of such a decomposition but also its uniqueness.
A seminal result of Agler proves that the natural de Branges-Rovnyak kernel function associated to a bounded analytic function on the bidisk can be decomposed into two shift-invariant pieces. Agler's decomposition is non-constructive-a problem remedied by work of Ball-Sadosky-Vinnikov, which uses scattering systems to produce Agler decompositions through concrete Hilbert space geometry. This method, while constructive, so far has not revealed the rich structure shown to be present for special classes of functions-inner and rational inner functions. In this paper, we show that most of the impor…
Extending the idea of Even and Lehrer [3], we discuss a general approach to integration based on a given decomposition system equipped with a weighting function, and a decomposition of the integrated function. We distinguish two type of decompositions: sub-decomposition based integrals (in economics linked with optimization problems to maximize the possible profit) and super-decomposition based integrals (linked with costs minimization). We provide several examples (both theoretical and realistic) to stress that our approach generalizes that of Even and Lehrer [3] and also covers problems of l…
We study the classical problem of identifying the structure of $P^2(μ)$, the closure of analytic polynomials in the Lebesgue space $L^2(μ)$ of a compactly supported Borel measure $μ$ living in the complex plane. In his influential work, Thomson showed that the space decomposes into a full $L^2$-space and other pieces which are essentially spaces of analytic functions on domains in the plane. For a family of measures $μ$ supported on the closed unit disk $\overline{\mathbb{D}}$ which have a part on the open disk $\mathbb{D}$ which is similar to the Lebesgue area measure, and a part on the unit …
In this short note we give an elementary proof for the case of the circle group of the theorem of O. Hatori and E. Sato which states that every measure on the compact abelian group $G$ can be decomposed into a sum of two measures with natural spectrum and a discrete measure.
Given a pair of positive real numbers $α, β$ and a sesqui-analytic function $K$ on a bounded domain $Ω\subset \mathbb C^m$, in this paper, we investigate the properties of the sesqui-analytic function $\mathbb K^{(α, β)}:= K^{α+β}\big(\partial_i\bar{\partial}_j\log K\big )_{i,j=1}^ m,$ taking values in $m\times m$ matrices. One of the key findings is that $\mathbb K^{(α, β)}$ is non-negative definite whenever $K^α$ and $K^β$ are non-negative definite. In this case, a realization of the Hilbert module determined by the kernel $\mathbb K^{(α,β)}$ is obtained. Let $\mathcal M_i$, $i=1,2,$ be two …
Filter convergence of vector lattice-valued measures is considered, in order to deduce theorems of convergence for their decompositions. First the $σ$-additive case is studied, without particular assumptions on the filter; later the finitely additive case is faced, first assuming uniform $s$-boundedness (without restrictions on the filter), then relaxing this condition but imposing stronger properties on the filter. In order to obtain the last results, a Schur-type convergence theorem is used.
We give a simple and short proof of the classical Lebesgue decomposition theorem of measures via the Riesz orthogonal decomposition theorem of Hilbert spaces. The tools we employ are elementary Hilbert space techniques.
We prove a refined Agler decomposition for bounded analytic functions on the bidisk and show how it can be used to reprove an interesting result of Guo et al. related to extending holomorphic functions without increasing their norm. In addition, we give a new treatment of Heath and Suffridge's characterization of holomorphic retracts on the polydisk.
The purpose of this paper is to establish an atomic decomposition for functions in the weighted mixed norm space $A^{p,q}_ω$ induced by a radial weight $ω$ in the unit disc admitting a two-sided doubling condition. The obtained decomposition is further applied to characterize Carleson measures for $A^{p,q}_ω$, and bounded differentiation operators $D^{(n)}(f)=f^{(n)}$ acting from $A^{p,q}_ω$ to $L^p_μ$, induced by a positive Borel measure $μ$, on the full range of parameters $0<p,q,s<\infty$.
The aim of this paper is to prove ergodic decomposition theorems for probability measures quasi-invariant under Borel actions of inductively compact groups (Theorem 1) as well as for sigma-finite invariant measures (Corollary 1). For infinite measures the ergodic decomposition is not unique, but the measure class of the decomposing measure on the space of projective measures is uniquely defined by the initial invariant measure (Theorem 2).
A Markov operator $P$ on a $σ$-finite measure space $(X, Σ, m)$ with invariant measure $m$ is said to have Krengel-Lin decomposition if $L^2 (X) = E_0 \oplus L^2 (X,Σ_d)$ where $E_0 = \{f \in L^2 (X) \mid ||P^n (f) || \ra 0 \}$ and $Σ_d$ is the deterministic $σ$-field of $P$. We consider convolution operators and we show that a measure $\lam$ on a hypergroup has Krengel-Lin decomposition if and only if the sequence $(\check \lam ^n *\lam ^n)$ converges to an idempotent or $\lam$ is scattered. We verify this condition for probabilities on Tortrat groups, on commutative hypergroups and on centra…
We prove that any II$_1$ factor $L^{\infty}(X)\rtimesΓ$ arising from a compact, free, ergodic, probability measure preserving action of a countable group $Γ$ with positive first $\ell^2$-Betti number, has a unique group measure space Cartan subalgebra, up to unitary conjugacy.
We prove that, if dichotomy occurs when the concentration-compactness principle is used, the dichotomizing sequence can be choosen so that a nontrivial part of it concentrates. Iterating this argument leads to a profile decomposition for arbitrary sequences of bounded Borel measures. To illustrate our results we give an application to the structure of bouded sequences in the Sobolev space $ W^{1, p}(\R^N)$.
Given a doubling measure $μ$ on $R^d$, it is a classical result of harmonic analysis that Calderon-Zygmund operators which are bounded in $L^2(μ)$ are also of weak type (1,1). Recently it has been shown that the same result holds if one substitutes the doubling condition on $μ$ by a mild growth condition on $μ$. In this paper another proof of this result is given. The proof is very close in spirit to the classical argument for doubling measures and it is based on a new Calderon-Zygmund decomposition adapted to the non doubling situation.
The main result of this paper, Theorem 1.1, gives explicit formulae for the kernels of the ergodic decomposition measures for infinite Pickrell measures on spaces of infinite complex matrices. The kernels are obtained as the scaling limits of Christoffel-Uvarov deformations of Jacobi orthogonal polynomial ensembles.
Using Laurent decomposition and Mergelyan's theorem combined with Baire's category theorem, we prove generic nowhere differentiability on the distinguished boundary of functions of analytic type on products of planar domains bounded by finitely many disjoint Jordan curves. The parametrization of the boundaries are those induced by the natural Riemann maps.
We consider a functional analytic variant of the notion of Tate space, namely the category of those topological vector spaces which have a direct sum decomposition where one summand is nuclear Frechet space and the other is the dual of a nuclear Frechet. We show that, both in the complex and in the p-adic setting, one can use this formalism to define symbols for analytic functions which satisfy Weil-type reciprocity laws.
The ergodic decomposition of a family of Hua-Pickrell measures on the space of infinite Hermitian matrices is studied. Firstly, we show that the ergodic components of Hua-Pickrell probability measures have no Gaussian factors, this extends a result of Alexei Borodin and Grigori Olshanski. Secondly, we show that the sequence of asymptotic eigenvalues of Hua-Pickrell random matrices is balanced in certain sense and has a "principal value" coincides with the $γ_1$ parameter of ergodic components. This allow us to complete the program of Borodin and Olshanski on the description of the ergodic deco…
