Graded algebras with cyclotomic Hilbert series

Let $R$ be a positively graded algebra over a field. We say that $R$ is Hilbert-cyclotomic if the numerator of its reduced Hilbert series has all of its roots on the unit circle. Such rings arise naturally in commutative algebra, numerical semigroup theory and Ehrhart theory. If $R$ is standard graded, we prove that, under the additional hypothesis that $R$ is Koszul or has an irreducible $h$-polynomial, Hilbert-cyclotomic algebras coincide with complete intersections. In the Koszul case, this is a consequence of some classical results about the vanishing of deviations of a graded algebra.

On Hilbert ideals for a class of $p$-groups in characteristic $p$

Let $p$ be a prime number, $\Bbbk$ a field of characteristic $p$ and $G$ a finite $p$-group. Let $V$ be a finite-dimensional linear representation of $G$ over $\Bbbk$. Write $S = \mathrm{Sym} V^*$. Augmented Hilbert series of numerical semigroups

A numerical semigroup $S$ is a subset of the non-negative integers containing $0$ that is closed under addition. The Hilbert series of $S$ (a formal power series equal to the sum of terms $t^n$ over all $n \in S$) can be expressed as a rational function in $t$ whose numerator is characterized in terms of the topology of a simplicial complex determined by membership in $S$. Log-concavity of asymptotic multigraded Hilbert series

We study the linear map sending the numerator of the rational function representing the Hilbert series of a module to that of its r-th Veronese submodule. We show that the asymptotic behaviour as r tends to infinity depends on the multidegree of the module and the underlying positively multigraded polynomial ring. More importantly, we give a polyhedral description for the asymptotic polynomial and prove that the coefficients are log-concave. In particular, we extend some results by Beck-Stapledon and Diaconis-Fulman beyond the standard graded situation.

On the real-rootedness of the Veronese construction for rational formal power series

We study real sequences $\{a_{n}\}_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$ that eventually agree with a polynomial. We show that if the numerator polynomial of its rational generating series is of degree $s$ and has only nonnegative coefficients, then the numerator polynomial of the subsequence $\{ a_{rn+i}\}_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$, $0\leq i<r$, has only nonpositive, real roots for all $r\geq s-i$.
